Street parking here will be impossible to use the valet if available and then validate it. once we validated it and decided to go elsewhere they were cool and just gave our keys back and told us where the car was so we kept our parking spot, but that is the parking people the same valet can be validated to several restaurants. This is definitely a more upscale looking Mexican place where u will pay about 4 to 6 dollar a taco. And 9 dollar drinks. We sat at the bar and they have some awesome craft drinks, but the reason why we came in was because we were waiting for another restaurants table and there was a sign outside for happy hour and once we came in it was over. So we had to drink on regular prices even tough they failed to take the bait sign out of customers sight. That felt like I was cheated a bit. BRAZILIANS DO IT BETTER - pretty nice and tangy drink with blueberries yummy and sweet at the same time. RABBITS FOOT- the best drink I had here so far. The mezcal is smokey and blends well with the citrus I have never tasted a smoked mezcal I am impressed, it was super new to try a smoked flavored drink and it worked very well. JUNKYARD TACO- even tough I am not a huge fan of chicken nor potatoes, this taco has me wanting more. The sweet corn the sauce and the meat blended well together and it was perfect! I would definitely recommend this taco, comes in a soft flour shell. SCALOP TACO- pretty impressed. The flavor of the scallops was pretty nice and the soft shell taco brought it all together. The scalols were nicely seasoned and crashed in runway with the pickled cabbage. It is a good taco. SOUR CREAM- YES I HAD TO PAY FOR AN SMALL SIDE OF SOUR CREAM. SO SMALL IT WAS NOT EVEN A DOLLAR WORTH IN VALUE AND I PAID $ 1 see pic, why pay for a side of sour cream?? it was so small and eating the taco it fell all over the bar, I was not happy I feel like they were a bit too much charging for this. COCONUT FLAN- Smallest 9 dollar flan ever, event tough it was a pretty tasty flan, with black berries and blueberries, sauces and a cute and tasty sugar cookie perfect on the sweet amount and the coconut taste was on point I think that the serving was too small for the price. yes so, the only reason why I gave 4 stars is cause my friends really liked here cause if it was for I only, I would give them 3 stars. I think that the food and drinks were good, the decor was nice, but the service was ok and normal for sitting at a restaurant bar, nothing about the service stood out to me and the fact that the happy hour was over and the sign was still bating people in, the side of condiments for things ordered were being charged when to even a complementary side came with the plate, and the fact that the dessert was so small and expensive, makes me think that this place has a bit of rethinking to do. At least in my opinion I was not 100% ok with the things I saw and experienced. Dear Flying, It's been fun but this just isn't working out anymore. Don't worry, it's you, not me. Last night we ate dinner at Flying for, what will probably be, the last time. Our waitress dropped our basket of chips at the table and ran. When she returned ten minutes later we asked her for the salsa. Her response was, "we are now charging $3.50 for salsa, is that ok?" No! Thats is not ok. We have always thought that the prices at flying were a tad steep for what it is, but the free chips/salsa and delish tacos always helped cushion the blow. We had already ordered queso prior to knowing about the salsa situation, so we declined the salsa and then re-opened their shiny, new, leather bound menu to review any other sneaky price gouging. I typically order the garden marg and queso, both of which increased 20%, but other than their taco menu losing some tried and trues, did not notice any significant price hikes on the tacos. But wait...theres more. We get our bill: 5 tacos, split the chorizo queso with our friends, 2 garden margs and 2 double titos/coke all coming in at the exorbitant total of $110?!?!? What is happening right now?!?!?! Toto, I don't think we are in Jax Beach anymore. We reviewed the tab more closely. $18 for a double titos and coke? Surely, this must be an error. After asking our server, she said she thought they increased the ounces, so instead of a double being three ounces, it's now four. Side note, anytime staff have been trained to school the customer on ounces I simply just cannot (please refer to my review on the Refinery). Nope, our server asked the bar, still only 3 ounces in their "double." Absolute highway robbery. Let me tell you a little secret, Pete's has been around for nearly a century, and it's not because they measure 1.5 ounces per pour. Know your audience, but even more importantly, know your competition. This is Jax Bch (I know I know, Neptune, but you get it) not Miami. When visiting my son and Jacksonville Beach always like to give flying iguana a visit for some really great tacos or quesadillas and very nice atmosphere. Stopped in for some food after walking around with friends. The decor is really warm and inviting. The blood orange margarita is where it's at. On to the food: Hubs had the Peruvian chicken, he stated the chicken was moist and well seasoned. It also came with black beans and fries and aioli. The solid were solid and plentiful. I had the fish taco and pork belly taco. The Mahi Mahi was flaky and delicious; the pickled onions created a good balance. The pork belly was crispy and expertly dressed. My only critique is I would dial back the amount of cinnamon. It created a semi-strange flavor profile that didn't really work for me. However, it did work on the chips with the salsa. It might be because I liked it paired with the paprika on the chips. Who knows, I'm no chef! I'd visit again for sure! read more

Been here a few times, pretty consistent food and service. Had a waitress (first day) and she did a great job. Queso was yummy as always, along with the chips and salsa. I tried a new drink today- Watermelon Bliss- super refreshing, I would recommend. I had the pork belly taco- always yummy. My son tried the beef taco, minus the extra toppings (not his favorite, but he likes regular beef). I tried a bite and it was good and not too spicy- More of a savory flavor (but some grease with it based on the type)- didn't bother us. We also ordered the chicken quesadilla in case he didn't like the beef- we actually didn't get to it and had to pick it for go, but did try the guacamole on the plate and were super disappointed (we both love guacamole). Honestly, it lacked flavor and tasted like it was sitting for a while- we left that behind. Important to note, it's a small quesadilla for the price tag- definitely seemed more like a kids meal than for an adult. Enough to make 2-3 tacos from it. It was alright...I get why people said their food was salty. He got a steak taco and a junkyard taco. The steak was not tender, the seeds didn't really fit the flavor profile and he didn't finish the taco. Which says a lot. The junkyard was better but chicken didn't have much flavor. While my taco was loaded full, his were not. Margarita was just okay. He got the house margarita on the rocks. It's nice that it is by the beach, which is what we were looking for. Flying Iguana is one of my favorite places in Jax. Not just due to the upscale Mexi-Jax vibe, but due to the food and their awesome drink variety. This visit was more of a business meeting, so no margaritas for this lady. We started with table side guac. Why? Because it's the bomb and you haven't lived until you've had table side guac (ok, maybe you have, but not in my book). We had guac with all the fixins (jalapeño, tomatoes, onions, and cilantro). It was stuff that dreams are made of (creamy, rich, flavorful, like a fiesta in your mouth). I opted for the baja fish taco and the dirty south taco (I always want to sing the Aaliyah song where Timberland says d-d-d-dirty south. You're welcome for getting that little ditty stuck in your head). Tacos came out quickly and were piping hot. My Baja fish taco was lightly battered, and the fish was flakey and moist. The cabbage gave it the right amount of crunch and remoulade had a nice cooling affect on the taco. I then dug into the dirty south taco. The best most magical part of this taco is the pimento cheese sauce: velvety southern staple. My only complaint was the fried green tomatoes tasted a bit burnt. So sad. I wouldn't rule out ordering this again because it's one of my favorites. read more

We visit this part of Florida multiple times a year. Our first visit was in March, I have emailed this location multiple times with out a responce before posting this negative review. This was the worst meal we have ever had. I admit I love salt, but this food was OVERLY LOADED with salt. We both took one bite and couldn't take another, I literally had to choke this one bite down, was a waste of money and had to discard of our entire meal. I never once in my entire life tossed anything for being too salty but this was AWFUL, literally tasted like I poured straight salt in my mouth. I stopped by late afternoon on Memorial Day with my dog, Freedom. We were welcomed to join them on their side patio. A twenty minute wait wit communication via Yelp Wait List which worked beautifully and on time. Freedom and I sat at a nice shady table. Our server, greeted us and asked if I wanted to order a drink and if Freedom would like some water too. When she brought out my chips and water, she brought Freedom an nice stainless steel bowl full of water. What a nice touch! Especially after I just took her for a nice long walk on the beach. Her first ever experience on the beach. I also requested a wet towel of some sort so I could clean my hands and couldn't go inside to the restroom and leave Freedom outside. My server exceeded my expectation in how and what she brought me. Let's just say I was impressed. They bring you free chips with two different salsas. Both really good. My tacos were the Flying fish (fish of the day, a la plancha, with shaved cabbage, aji Amarillo, salsa criollos) taco, crispy pork belly taco (rum 'n coke glaze, watermelon, contija, pickled onions) taco, and achiote chicken (grilled marinated chicken, salsa Ron's, lime aioli, fresh avocado) taco. Each were delicious, beautifully done, with great flavors. I also ordered a nice side of plantains. Their food is incredible. My Flying Iguana Margarita is outstanding. Beyond top shelf. My server was very busy, but she did everything possible to make my visit great. Having my new sweet Freedom, places like this who welcome dogs deserve plugs for being great towards the pouch and caring enough to offer a nice bowl of water. We both will be back because of that. We came here for a quick girls lunch and we enjoyed it very much. We sat on the patio which had a wonderful atmosphere/vibe and stayed pretty cool despite the Florida heat. We ordered the guacamole appetizer, which is advertised as prepared table side, however they just brought us out a bowl. We would have preferred the table side and wish they would have let us know that they wouldn't be able to do so. It was still delicious nonetheless. The tacos were amazing. Both were full of flavor and they did not skimp on the portions. My friend had the beet salad which she said was also great! My friends and I came here last Friday night for some much needed margaritas and food. I used the yelp app to "get in line" before I left the house and there was around a 40 minute wait from that point. We ended up spending some time in Ragtime for drinks and a cool atmosphere. In reality, we waited around an hour and a half to be seated, but it was well worth it! Our party was seated in a large booth and we quickly ordered some margaritas and guacamole, two of my personal favorites! The guacamole is made fresh table-side and you have the option to chose what you'd like inside it, such as jalapeños, tomatoes, etc. Oh the margaritas, they are out of this world. Whether you chose a house or a specialty one, YUM! My usual is their house margarita, with their mango and prickly pear being my top two. You can have it on the rocks or frozen, salted or sugared. What more do you need?! Just as amazing as both the guacamole and the margaritas, are their tacos! I ordered both the flying fish and the junkyard taco, and was extremely pleased with both! The fish was freshly grilled and topped with a delightful pickled onion. The junkyard taco was filled to the brim with corn, chicken, potatoes and topped with cheesy amazingness. I was able to enjoy this restaurant yesterday, the chips were fresh and seasoned. The guac had great flavor, but had an entire half of an avocado in it so we had to finish the chopping because the chunks broke each chip. Flavor was definitely there! The salsas were really fresh! My blood orange margarita tasted really like a regular orange margarita and had a regular orange piece/garnish on it. Still good, but was expecting blood orange from the menu. Their guacamole is great, their chicken and cheese quesadilla is great. I had tacos that I didn't love. However, they have a VERY limited menu. They give you two menus, one with drinks and a full menu and then other menu with the food they actually have. It's confusing because the menu they give you with drinks also has a full extensive menu that you can't order from??? It is very confusing and frustrating. I would love to see more options, right now their menu pretty much only consists of tacos which I didn't love. Their original menu has so many options that I would love to try! I hope to see them open back up with their full menu soon I don't think I'll be back until they do! read more

I'm ready to go back. If not for the Flying Iguana Margherita, then maybe the tacos. I've had my fair share of tacos and one of my favorite places "locally" is in St. Augustine.. but boy that's a drive. It's a great thing the Flying Iguana packs SERIOUS flavor in a handheld pocket of deliciousness, alleviating the need to drive so far. Let's start with the steak taco - the meat was marinated perfectly and oh so tender, it was hard not to finish it in two bites and even more difficult not to order more. I also dove into the Pork Belly tacos with watermelon, who would have thought watermelon would have been this perfect of a compliment!? Be daring and give this one a try. The guacamole dip is also made table size and is quite fresh, how they keep that many ripe avocados on hand puzzles me. The service was mediocre but they were quite busy with a queue building outside. If you're going to come here expect a slightly loud environment, perfect for get togethers with friends or bringing your kids out without the need to tell them to pipe it down.
