We did our girls night at Flying Iguana this week and it always is delicious. We split the table-side prepared guacamole and the crispy Brussel sprouts. What I love about the table-side preparation is that you can customize your guac to be exactly to your preference. We like more chunky with lots of tomato, onion, and jalapeño. I got the spice of life margarita (spicy marg, so delicious and definitely has some heat) and the pork belly taco and steak taco. The pork belly has a Coca Cola marinade or glaze that is so unique, and the taco comes with watermelon and yummy cheese on top. It's just so perfect in my eyes. I was in the area of Neptune Beach today during dinner time so I decided to stop in here and grab some early dinner. I am so glad I did because everything tasted great. They have plenty of indoor, outdoor and bar seating. I was lucky enough to get one of the outdoor tables on this beautiful day. The menu offers plenty of great sounding drinks, appetizers, salads, and tacos. I started with the prickly pear frozen margarita. It looked and tasted great. I ate there on May 16 during the Dancin' in the Streets festival and had the Peruvian Steak Bowl. While the ingredients were fresh, the meal itself was extremely salty. I consumed multiple glasses of tea just to finish it. I think it was also a bit overpriced for the portion size. read more

This is one of my favorite spots in Neptune Beach. I always get the guac because they make it fresh in front of you and they have lots of yummy tacos to choose from. I recently got the brussels sprouts as an appetizer when I was there for happy hour and they were also very yummy. On top of that, Mondays they have six dollar house marks and there's some of the best marks I've had! I highly recommend this spot for happy hour or dinner with friends. They have both indoor and outdoor seating and the bar is first come first serve which I enjoy! My service is usually really good when I go and I'm always happy with my experience. read more

Flying Iguana is one of my favorite places to eat at the beaches. They have great chips and salsa, with two salsa flavors. You can also get super tasty guacamole made right at your table and customized to your preferences. I usually get a couple tacos, but my other favorite thing is their Ceviche de Pescado. All the flavors are delicious! They also make great drinks. My favorite is the Garden Margarita, which has muddled cucumber and cilantro in it. It's very fresh and a nice change from margaritas made with sour mix. You can make it a Spicey Garden, with a tajin rim and jalapenos. Or if you really like spicy, the Spice of Life is really good. I don't think I've ever had anything I don't like there, and we've been going for almost 10 years. read more

It was a mild day in August--really!! So we sat outside on the patio. We started with guacamole and chips. It was incredibly delicious. The chips had a nice spice on them and the guacamole was evenly balanced. Our server checked on us the right number of times. My husband ordered the pork dish. It was seasoned well. Friend had been here before so she knew to order the table-side guac. It was a lunch rush with only one gal on guac duty. We saw her make guac for at least 5 tables before us. We tried to cancel the order since we waited for over 20 minutes and our entrees would be out soon, but we were next in line. So we got it but the waitress did comp it on the final bill, which was a nice gesture. Sal ordered a Crispy Pork Belly taco. It came with watermelon and she said it compliments well. I'll take her word for it. Sis ordered the Cubana Torta. It came with a salad. She liked the salad. Said it tasted like pickled cabbage. The sandwich meat was well flavored and juicy. Nice hints of mustard and pickles. Sometimes the mustard can overpower but this was balanced with the saltiness of the pork/ham. I ordered the Mexican Cheese Steak torte Torte. Bread was warm, toasted. Outside crusty but inside was soft. Great flavors that I can't remember but it was the best meal I had all weekend. I had the pablano peppers on the side and I'm glad I did. I could smell the spicy heat and it would have been too much fur my MN mouth. Fries were hot and lightly salted. I couldn't stop eating them so I had to throw the napkin over my plate. Out of sight, out if mind. The Flying Iguana was probably my favorite restaurant during my mid-Feb vacation. My hometown Mexican restaurants need to step up their game!! read more

Came around 5:15pm on Father's Day-- it was very slow (I think because of weather) so we were seated immediately. It was quiet which isn't the norm. Our server was polite and professional. For drinks, we ordered the spice of life (their version of a spicy marg). I love this drink- has just the right kick, not too spicy. We ordered our usual go-to's for food: the steak taco and the junkyard taco. They are spicy so I order mine without the Fresno chiles or flaming iguana sauce. The chips & salsa are no longer complimentary which is unfortunate. They have some interesting new rice bowls I would like to try next time. Great service during our summer weekday lunch. This street in Neptune is really cute & the restaurant was pretty and comfortable. The tableside guac was excellent--best part of lunch!! The carnitas taco was good and pork belly taco with watermelon was interesting and also good. The house marg wasn't inexpensive but it was tasty. Heard great things about this restaurant during my last visit to Jax Beach and had to make it there for dinner one night! We didn't make reservations ahead of time, so when we arrived there was quite a long wait, however, we got lucky enough and found 3 open spots at the bar so we snagged those immediately! The bar offers full service so we were able to order drinks and food. The guacamole was so fresh and yummy, and the queso dip was also fantastic! Definitely not like your average queso and had a bit of a smoky flavor to it which I really enjoyed. For my main dish, I went with a couple of tacos and they were also absolutely delicious! The junkyard was probably my favorite with grilled chicken, roasted potato, queso sauce, shaved cabbage, charred corn salsa, and flaming iguana sauce, but the dirty south was also really great and consisted of fried green tomato, black eyed "peaco" de gallo, queso sauce, and baby arugula. I was also told to order the guava cheesecake from a friend/local, and I am SO glad I did because wow, it was phenomenal. I love anything with guava and knew it was going to be a hit. With a menu on the more limited side, I think flying iguana is most worth it if you're coming here for tacos, which they do have a good amount of options. The other menu items are alright, but way more expensive than they seem like they would be. But the tacos were delicious! The crispy pork belly was a little too crispy for my taste, but I loved the watermelon. And the Baja fish was perfectly crispy. And the chips and salsa were delicious too. I loved the red salsa and I loved that the chips were seasoned so you didn't even need to put salsa on to already have some flavor. read more

I love this place and it never disappoints. The challenge is deciding between their tacos, the sopa de pollo, and the Caribbean shrimp bowl since all are excellent. They happen to have the best Skinny Ritas in town. I went on an off night which made a big difference since it's is usually very crowded for good reason. Food was fantastic. Took about 15 minutes to get a server there. The table was not wiped well. The bathroom has one stall. Not a great design for a big restaurant with a lot of seats. Once the server got there, she was yawning on the spot. She was very good. This place has a great ambience, great food beautiful colors and stuff like that and once again, the food was great. We met up with some friends on a Friday evening at Flying Iguana. We started off with chips, salsa and a couple Swap Shop margaritas. Perfect starters for some conversation! For dinner, hubby ordered the Peruvian steak bowl and I ordered 3 tacos - meat n' potato, achiote chicken and carnitas. Hubby absolutely loved his dish. I tried a few bites and it was very good. The combination of anticucho steak with white rice, black beans, corn salsa and the fried egg - amazing! The tacos weren't authentic but they were delicious. The achiote chicken was flavorful. I loved the lime aioli and the fresh avocado. Carnitas tacos are my go to and this one was simple and really good. I loved the queso fresco and cilantro on top. The meat n' potato came in 3rd place for me. The charred corn salsa was a nice addition to the beef tinga. We took 2 guava cheesecakes to go and OMG were they amazing! I forgot to take a picture and before you knew it they were gone. I would definitely recommend trying this dessert. Great area and ambience, inside and out. This is a standard bar with a menu with American Mexican with Asian fusion. The one dish that stood out was salsa. It's fresh and flavorful. All the other dishes were average. Neptune Beach is one of the sweetest beach communities you'll find in the Eastern United States. Naturally, Flying Iguana fits in perfectly to the aesthetic. The bar was perfect for me on my most recent visit, but there were also tables and chairs. The staff are equally pretty people inside and out. This is a must on your next visit! They offer about 10 different margaritas. I went with the skinny and it was delicious. I didn't feel like I was missing out on anything because I wanted a few less calories. There is a full bar for alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages. I enjoyed the nachos seasoned with Old Bay and the salsa verde. Very tasty!
