My husband and I stayed at the Flying L cabin for a couple nights while we attended a very dear friend's wedding. Unfortunately, we didn't have the best experience staying there. 1. We are out-of-towners and this is our first time visiting Bandera. We always heard about the welcoming, friendliness and hospitality of the small town Texans. What we experienced at the front desk when we checked in wasn't any of those. The young lady who helped with our check-in wasn't friendly nor welcoming. I wanted to check out the place so I asked her if its ok for me to look around. I got a short answer from her after I repeated the question twice. No eye contact, no smile... 2. When we opened our cabin door, a very strong chemical smell of the most recent wood stains was overwhelming. We left the door open for a while to see if the smell got better, it wasn't, and we started feeling a light headache and nausea . So I called the front desk asking for another room. I was put on hold for a long time. I had hang up and then, got a call back. Since another cabin won't be ready until much later, we brought all of our luggages back in the car and drove to the check in area to drop off the keys. The young lady was busy with another customer so we talked to another lady. Again, no smile.. Its noone fault about the smell of the cabin. However, the way the situation was handled, it made us feel like we were bothering them. If I could "suck it in" and stayed in that room, I would. But my sensitive nose couldn't handle it... 3. The cabin itself has very nice wood walls and cute and simple decors. But it's a tiny space with the bunk bed taking a big chunk of the room. No closet or hangers, the tiny shower, and the beddings and towels, being dark brown, didn't help to show the cleanliness. The pillows were so hard, my husband couldn't sleep the 1st night. Luckily, he asked the front desk for a more "fluffier" pillows and got a better night of sleep the next night. Worse is,, there was only one tiny mirror in the bathroom. I am not sure why another mirror wasn't available in the room so 2 people can get ready at the same time... Customer services at these hotels are very important. They play a big part on how people, out-of-towners like us, view about the town and people who live here. Sadly, based on our experience from our stay here, Bandera wan't what we expected and maybe, will be our one time visting... *This resort/these cabins are surrounding by a nice golf course, homes and so many beautiful and peaceful deers. My daughter and I stayed here for an event we were attending in town. We stayed only one night, arrived to check in at 7:30 pm on a Friday and we were checking out the next morning before 8:00 am. When we checked in, the woman working at the desk was very friendly. However, she had about a five minute presentation on every detail about the resort. She even talked about things that were not happening while we were there. This would have been nice if we were staying a while but we were obviously there only about 12 hours. The other downside to this is that we were third in line to check in, so we had to stand there and listen to her say it three times. Side note, part of the check in process is to sign a liability waiver which I find odd. After we set off to find our cabin, I was shocked to find the grounds dark, completely dark. The only designation on the cabins is a number on the cabin itself and some of them do not face the street. The porch lights are dim so it was very difficult to find our place in the dark. The room was fine, dimly lit but fine. It was roomy, the beds were comfortable and the bathroom was nice. After we got settled, I went to the restaurant by the main office. They had live music and were taking orders outside. I was told by the woman taking orders that the kitchen was too backed up and they could not take any food orders at the time, "we are a three man operation and are too behind so come back in 30 minutes". Then, when I came back at 9:01 pm I was told they stop serving food at 9:00 and I could only get pizza. Not impressed with the restaurant. The next morning, I got up at 6:00 am to go for a walk. Again, everything is pitch black, no street lights anywhere. I walked through the little cabin street that winds around and followed a sidewalk that apparently turns into the golf course sidewalk. No designation, no lights, I had no idea. A staff member in a golf cart yelled at me that I was not allowed to walk on the golf course sidewalk. This also seemed strange to me as I wasn't running around on the course. I was on a sidewalk. This place was fine if you need to be close for an event, like we were, but I would not choose to stay here for any length of time for recreation. read more

Mixed feelings toward the place, mostly positive. We stayed in the GetAway Suite with 2 kids and wish we known that there were other room options that were still available. It's a bit tight for a family of 4. Wish we had gotten a room with bunks for the kids. When we called we were told there is a "special" and that the current price is 25% off, but that was just the normal price on the website after checking later. As far a cleanliness, I'll give it a B+. As far a condition excluding the how outdated it is a B- The room itself is definitely dated. Popcorn ceiling, tile counters I'm guessing early 90s ( at least on the last remodel) I felt like things were pretty "clean" and didn't see a bunch of dirt in places. I mean, how clean is it really - who knows ( same can be said for all hotels/ cabins, BNBs etc) The condition of the room was pretty good. Definitely far from new, but overall in good shape. I did NOT see any mold signs etc in the bathroom. Oh the bathroom has a heated exhaust fan which was a nice since it was pretty chilly when we stayed. The staff has been super friendly which I guess you'd expect at a cowboy "ranch" Buck is a super nice gentleman, great guitar player and singer. We really enjoyed hanging out at the camp fire with him. I put "ranch" in double quotes because the property is odd. The new owners bought this place in 2018 or so and the previous owners were selling plots of land for single family homes to get them through financial troubles. Thus the ranch has a bunch of single family homes all around it. Kinda odd. It's like the front part of the property is a mini subdivision. It's more Resort than ranch Lots of things to do if the weather is nice. Meaning most activities are outdoor. Would be great if there were indoor activities like air hockey or pool or ping pong etc. they do have board games you can borrow. They have basketball, tennis, pickle ball, table tennis aka ping pong and multiple playgrounds outside The playground are in good shape as are the tennis courts and bball court. They have an 18 hole put put as well as hole course ( currently closed). The put-put was nice and well maintained. One of the nicer maintained put-puts I've been too in recent years. Free laundry that is byos( bring your own soap) that's under lock and key. Ask the front desk for a key. Looked pretty clean too. Now the bed is pretty rough and not very comfortable. Wife and I are currently fighting over who gets to sleep on the couch which we both suspect is much more comfy. Oh, and there is a Dollar General basically at the entrance for any odds and ends needed There is a water park that's not open. Apparently it's $400 a day to insure even if it's not open. It's not a ranch experience per say, but more of a resort. Worth a visit. The area itself of bandera was surprisingly beautiful - not what I expected. read more

My son and I arrived for our one night , one day in Bandera getaway to find out there would be no campfire / s'mores or wagon ride. Okay we would play ping pong , tennis, and putt putt . We went to our cabin only to discover it is behind the resort , right behind a row of suburban style house backyards facing a highway and some enormous water tanks. Not the scenic, peaceful, ranch view and ambience we expected. We went back and payed to upgrade to a villa that was in the resort and at least close to the activities, so we could walk to play games and enjoy the evening. It took about 30 min to complete that process of having a maintenance man go get a place inspected. Only to find a cockroach when I used the bathroom. I kindly requested that be cleaned and hurried to play tennis as it was now after 5. We had to walk, request, and wait another 20 min for lights to be turned on the tennis courts once it was dark. When we returned to the room I discovered another dead small black cockroach in the bedroom and in the living room area of the villa. Not tree roaches common to Texas that wander in occasionally..... Infestations style smaller black roaches. We had really been trying to just make the best of all the disappointments but now we just did not want to stay. I was tired and wanted a clean and quiet room elsewhere. I was told they would not give a refund and the only option was to move is back to the original cabin as no others had been cleaned and would possibly have more problems. We spent the night there , the bunk bed for my son was not made , he worked at making it around the ladder and climbing under and across. He then got a horrible night of no sleep on a plastic crinkling mattress that was super hot and did not breathe ( and we camp in Texas so we do not need anything fancy) and we both woke up with the puffiest eyes I have ever had , almost swollen ??why??? I have no idea. We had to cancel our horseback ride because he did Not feel up to it and drove home . Effectively ruining our two day holiday getaway. And two of my first days off in weeks. An obvious Christmas break getaway , the least they could have done was give us a refund but they offered NOTHING . It was a complete bust. Honestly camping would have been much better . At least we could have had nature and less cockroaches. To be fair , the shower was nice in the cabin and there was hot water. But it is too far to walk to anything that is fun and the view is straight up ugly. The villa with the cockroaches also smelled of mold but it was central to anything you might want to do. The lady at the front desk was nice but was powerless to help us. It was Just a sad waste of time, energy, and money. I am not sure why a resort would want to deny a refund when they cannot offer any alternatives.... It is just bad business to ruin trips. read more

My Flying L Resort story went as follows: On March 20, 2025, I made a reservation for a stay in a villa on April 24-26, 2025, for $671.17. However, on March 23. 2025 I had to cancel that reservation, and I was only refunded $211.73. Flying L Resort kept the remaining $459.44 and wouldn't respond to my inquiries for explanation. Now, it does say clearly on the website that you may be subject to a partial refund for cancellations and no refund after April 11, 2025. Because my cancellation was over 30 days away, I thought they would be open to discussion. My conclusion is that this facility is in a tight for money. If they are cheating a senior citizen out of reservation funding their actual onsite guest services must be horrible. I don't have any doubt that God is watching their practices. Please be very careful if you choose to deal with this outfit! read more

We enjoyed our stay over Labor Day weekend. We were in the second floor of the Getaway cabins and it was a nice, quiet room with a view of the golf course (under construction). Our room was clean, well stocked with towels & toiletries/kitchen items. The pillows on the bed are nice & fluffy! Check out is 10AM, which is early compared to most hotels. We called and were allowed to check out a little later. We enjoyed our afternoons at the pool. They have a couple of areas to sit with pergolas for shade, and floaties & noodles to use. Get towels from the office. Could use another shaded area at the deep end of the pool to sit though, sort of away from families with kids. They serve drinks and food from the Branding Iron at the pool. The mozzarella sticks are killer - order them! You're not supposed to bring your own alcohol or food into the pool area, so plan for that. They want you to purchase it from them (bring your wallet because they don't bill it to your room). We ate a sirloin steak dinner at the Branding Iron one night. Not as good as what we get at home in San Antonio, but it was a decent effort. Tip for the kitchen - when someone orders a salad as a side, it should come out before the steak & potato. Everything hit the table at the same time, which was awkward. In fact, it seemed like everyone that was in the restaurant got their food at the same time, which is really weird! We didn't travel with children and we don't golf, so didn't care that some things were still shut down from COVID - unclear why that is though - lazy river would have been great to use since it was 100 degrees outside. I think I heard some families had used the putt-putt golf and they had their last chuckwagon & show of the season the first night we were there, which looked well attended. I feel like the rates could have been lower, given off-season & under construction feel of things, but it's still a nice place to stay in Bandera, if you're looking for something that isn't the Best Western. read more

Flying L Ranch... what a place. We went up from SA for work and thought rather than doing the back and forth multiple times for an hour long drive every day we'd check out the local overnight stays. This was a cute little find. Mini Golf Pool S'mores Sand Volleyball Playground Tennis Basketball And a whole lot more. The front reception ladies were very kind and so helpful. We don't normally frequent Dollar general however they had one a minute from our cabin and it was definitely helpful in a pinch. There is a washer and dryer available if/when needed. The cabins seemed to be cleaned daily or after other guests checked out. This place was really liked by my family. The TV's in the cabins have wifi and cable. We got there on a Monday and it really seems to liven up Tuesday night through the rest of the week. Monday and Tuesday the restaurant on site is closed so you have to venture out. There is a pay-for-play water park that was bone dry and in need of attention and repairs, but they're working on the golf course first they advised. I can tell you once we find out that water park is functioning weed love to see go back. We were also told that in the future there would be golf carts brought back to travel the property so something like that would be nice to get around. read more

I honestly don't quite know how to begin this review. All in all we had a good time and the kids loved it. However...I'm from TX so I knew from the get go what these places are typically like so I didn't have really high expectations. But even without high expectations, for a place that calls themselves a "resort", it was far from what I expect in a place that says its a resort. I'll list the good and the not so good and you can be the judge: 1. When I did my initial search for dude ranches I saw that the Flying L was listed as #1. Since I wanted to have a nice relaxing time I zeroed in on them. I briefly reviewed their website (Mistake #1) and then attempted to book a room. However, I found the site to be a bit confusing because from some of the wording it didn't seem like all the rooms were shown. There was wording to the effect that "the pictures were representative" of the rooms. Since we had 6 people (4 adults, 2 kids) I needed 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. I couldn't seem to find how they could accommodate that many people together so I called to get advice. The person I spoke to was kind of helpful, but I was basically only offered one choice. It sounded fine so I booked it. 2. When we arrived I discovered that there is really only 1 (!) restaurant on the property, if you could call it that. It's the snack bar at their pro shop. It requires a walk to get there, not a long walk, but it's a walk nevertheless. The food there is mediocre at best! And the menu is very limited. And to make things even more ridiculous, it's only open from Tuesday to Saturday. We arrived on Saturday so from the time we arrived until Tuesday morning there was no food at the resort. We had to drive into town to eat. There is another restaurant on property but it's only open on Friday evening...and when I say open, I mean that they will serve food, which is the same menu as the snack bar, but they only served outside, with the flys and the summer heat. They did offer alcohol, but it was the cheapest brands and if you want to add it to your room, they do not have this capacity so everything must be paid for as you go....including food. 3. Our room would have been fine if we didn't have the kids with us. They had to sleep on a pullout bed in the "livingroom" which was MAYBE a 10 x 10 room. The only place to sit was the couch. There was no table or really a desk. This meant that we couldn't all sit in one room. I decided living all squished together for 10 days wasn't going to cut it so I called to see if there was other rooms that could accommodate us. There are a number of places to stay on the property and I thought since the place was pretty quiet when we arrived that finding different rooms wouldn't be an issue. I was wrong. Asking to be switched to something that would be better for us seemed to be like pulling teeth. I explained the issue and even though I talked to them for at least 30 minutes (!) I really got no information about where else we could stay that would accommodate us since we needed 2 bathrooms. I finally asked if the other half of our cabin was available which was much larger but only had 1 bathroom (which seems to be the norm for their cabins). It was, but we still needed 2 bathrooms. We ended up getting both sides of the cabin, but I had to pay extra. They did give me a discount. But the thing is, that option was never offered! I had to suggest it! 4. Though I found the staff to be very friendly, trying to do anything out of the ordinary MUST be passed by the owners, who don't live on property. And not via a phone call. Nope. All through email or text and everything must be approved by the owners. It's a tedious process. Towards the end of this negotiation they did finally call the owners, but what a ridiculous process. The good things! 1. There's access to horseback riding which is a 10 minute drive away. It costs extra and it's not cheap, but they are very friendly and accommodating. The kids loved this. 2. There's a large pool, seemed well maintained and though there's no access to drinks or snacks at the pool, it's still a nice pool. 3. They have a putt putt golf course which is OK. It's next to the water park which has been closed for 3 years and some of the waterpark water is supposed to feed a few water features on the putt putt course, but because the waterpark is closed, the putt putt course is a little sad. With the closed waterpark, it makes the property look a bit old, dated and abandoned. 4. There is also s'mores around the campfire, horseshoes, shuffelboard, ping pong, games, etc. All the activities are outside so really only available 3 seasons. But still fun. 5. On Saturday there was a trail ride with a chuckwagon dinner and a band. The best experience of the whole trip. The food was good, they had a shootout with the town sheriff, archery, horse petting, and more wagon rides. Kids LOVED it. 6. The staff is friendly and the bands they had were fun. 7. We visited here with modest expectations but we were very pleasantly surprised. The golf course was in immaculate condition. As nice as any we've played in Texas. The two of us stayed in a Getaway Suite overlooking the ninth green which was more than adequate. Food was good, service was good, pool is in good shape, all the paving was new throughout the facility, basketball, tennis, driving range, all great. You have to remember this place is 75+ years old. A lot of the buildings are older but the ownership is clearly reinvesting their profits into improvements. Nearby Bandera is lots of fun. We can't wait to go back. read more

The Flying L Ranch is nestled deep into the Hill Country of Texas. It is not a New York Minute stop. Here you will be addressed as "Mam" and hear "Y'all". Here the trucks are big and the hats are bigger. You don't come here to raise your level of tension. You come here to decompress, while you watch herds of dear roam before you and see lots of stars at night. There is night life, country style though. There are plenty of Bar and Grill places and great fooderies to visit. Mostly, the accommodations around here are converted ranches. The Flying L Ranch is one. I stayed as a guest at the Vacation Resort at the Flying L Ranch. My suite was about 1000 square feet and super spacious for a one bedroom unit. Very impressive was how clean the unit was. There was plenty of hot water, but the shower was tight. I had a full kitchen with standard sized appliances. The design and layout was spacious, with a faux fireplace and king size bed. The floor grout in the bathroom could use a little attention, but that was my one negative. The staff was awesome. I had two maintenance issues to arise, which was completely resolved within ten minutes of the call. The furniture motif was "Old Western". Every morning I could have breakfast on my private spacious balcony which overlooked the golf course. There are paths for brisk walking and lots of outdoor activities like volleyball, tennis, cookouts, bonfires, and golf. I could truly tell you, "Y'all come down. Ya hear?" read more

An escape from the world! This ranch was quiet, beautiful, and enticing... quite frankly, my favorite part of Texas. We stayed for 2 nights in one of the cabins, where deer would freely roam even to our front door. There was golf, basketball, and tennis to play, amongst several other outdoor sports. There's a stable with 10 horses and they offer horseback riding as well. We boarded the wagon ride at 5pm and fed the deer on the land (amazing experience!) and afterwards went for the campfire s'mores. Buck, our host, was in charge of both the deer feeding and campfire. He sang songs on his guitar and truly made us feel welcome. We can't wait to go back! read more

I have never been to the Flying L, but I have met numerous employees there. Always nice, respectful, and friendly. I think it's impossible for someone to work at the Flying L Ranch and not be a delight to talk to. Bikers have told me they loved staying there, that the bar is fun and that a bartender has even stay open late so they would'nt have to drive away from where they were sleeping that night. I need to hit the vending machines before I leave town, heard nothing but good things!! read more

So, it pains me to say this, but do not stay here. It has so much potential and it is so sad that the amenities that would make this place truly amazing are closed or worn down. It feels like this resort is lost in time. With a great infusion of cash it could be amazing. I truly don't understand why the horse stables aren't connected to the resort, seems like offering trail rides is a no-brainer, but apparently management has switched hands and the stables are now separate. When we checked into the room my children found other people's clothing in drawers (gross). Also, I tried to give them a bath and I kid you nog the water was yellow and murky (yuck). Also, the rooms are dated and old. The blankets are thin and the clinches are tired and worn. If you look at pictures in the website many of the amenities look great, but it is a different story when you are here. For example, the really awesome water park hasn't been in operation since 2020. There are huge chunks of metal on the ground from the water structures. It is abandoned and sad. The other pool is just a big rectangle. It wasn't filthy, but also wasn't super clean. It was just kind of par for the course. The wagon ride was awesome and the tour was informative. Mr. Buck Shannon was amazing. Unfortunately, that was about the only thing worth checking out. Do not judge a book by its website photos or else you will be sadly disappointed, like me. read more

We stayed at the flying L in the timeshare section. We had a one bedroom unit with the second bedroom lock off unit. The staff is amazingly friendly and helpful. While the furnishings are not 100% upgraded, the furnishings and units were very clean and well-maintained. Very comfortable beds! We have had a genuinely awesome time here at the ranch. We are staying in one of the super charming villas. Patrick was a great trail guide today who took us horseback riding (my horse was Cisco). Buck Shannon was so great with all the guests and he took us out on the property to feed antelope, deer, horses, donkeys and even a longhorn! He sang songs by the campfire and we had s'Mores. Loved his "Cattle Call"' Super friendly staff at the delicious breakfast, with special kindness at the desk by Barbie. All the staff members seem to have a real fondness for the place and are happy to share the rich history of this historic ranch. We love vintage and cowboy culture and music and the Friday entertainment by Rebel Roxy was great. She killed it with her rendition of Dolly Parton's Jolene. We enjoyed the water park (first time in a lazy river for us). It was so nice to get away for the weekend and we had equal parts relaxation and fun. Do I have an experience to tell. While some friends were visiting in town we decided to head over to the flying L resort since it's been a favorite of ours for years and what better thing to do on a day off right ? Wow was I wrong. while not even at the river for 20 minutes BARBIE MARTINEZ decided to go on a power trip and harass my group by getting in our faces and not giving us a minute to gather our belongings when SHE kicked us out when 1. IM A MEMBER and 2. my family and I have been coming here for YEARS. after explaining to her multiple times that I'm a member she simply did not listen and said we were not allowed to go in the water when there were multiple other groups IN THE WATER?? Will be canceling my membership thanks to BARBIE MARTINEZ. Learn to do better and actually Harass someone who is doing wrong. There's people dying Barbie and you were just looking for something to do with the small amount of authority you have for Christ sakes, If I was you I would do some self reflecting on that ugly attitude. We came here for a wedding and were not able to explore all the things Flying L has to offer. Plus COVID-19 put a damper in many of the activities. We celebrated the wedding at Ghost town and had lots of fun. Katherine the Manager was very nice and accommodating. We checked into the Apache Village cottages. They are small but cozy and sleep 3people. The decor was lovely. Most importantly, the cottage was clean. The only thing we didn't like was the uncomfortable mattress. read more

I want so much to write a good review for this place. It is cute, rustic and the singing and stories with Buck around the campfire make it special. There are two playgrounds on the property, a pool and a waterpark. Be aware that the waterpark costs extra, which considering the price of rooms I don't think you should have to. The food is ok but nothing special, unfortunately we were not there for any special cookouts or concerts. There is a decent golf course. Horse back riding was great experience. They are planning a kids club for summers. Local town of Bandera is very nice! Now the bad. So disorganized. We were told wrong place for breakfast, wrong time for wagon ride and not informed to sign up for buffet breakfast ahead of time. I had called weeks in advance to reserve horse riding and when we showed up they didn't have our names on the list and it was booked. My receipt from check in showed we had paid so they had to fit us in the next day, the day we were leaving. It was just one thing after another. I hope they get it together because it has so much potential. read more

Went here for a night away from home and to float the lazy river! The little cabin we stayed in was nice and cozy. The water park needs some updating. The bar & grill/restaurant is too small and we had to go into town to get food because there was nowhere to sit and seemed like only one person working. The waterpark: The food prices were very reasonable at the waterpark! The bar had good prices too! Lots of tubes around to float. It feels smaller than 3 acres but still has great features to entertain your kids for the entire day! The staff was nice and helpful. read more

Resort needs a serious facelift. We were excited about the water park/lagoon but it was not working, from the appearance it looks as if it has been shut down for months. I went here over Labor Day weekend. First, let me say we had a wonderful time and ALL of the staff were exceedingly nice. We were able to enjoy the water park for a few minutes before a storm got too close and we had to leave the pool area. But the little bit we got to enjoy was really nice and welcome on a hot day. We went on the chuck wagon dinner. The bbq was very good and so were all the fixings. You aren't going to leave hungry!! They had some entertainment during dinner, such as singing, a guy cracking whips to the beat of the songs, a shootout on the street, pony rides for the kiddos, and a few more things. It was very quaint. We thoroughly enjoyed the s'mores in the evening and hangout out by the fire. Breakfast was at the 19th hole cafe. The eggs and bacon were cooked perfectly. And the Starbucks coffee hit the spot. We also enjoyed sitting on our porch watching the golf carts go by, and the light rain from the storm. It was a super relaxing weekend. The room was a little odd though. We had two rooms with a shared living room, which we enjoyed. But there was only one bathroom, and one person had to go through the other person's room to get to it. There's a lot of areas around the resort that need repairs. From the fencing to the pool and water park areas. Cleanliness is 2 1/2 stars. Staff doesn't clean up as thoroughly as they should, so waterpark and pool are not up to par for the asking price. Golf course greens have not been kept up and are bumpy and/or overgrown. For $45 per person green fee, you'd expect a better quality course. Overall service at the water park is not up to par. Storms must be 30 miles away in order to be able to remain in the water...only they don't know how to tell if the storm is moving towards us or away. Not coordinated in employee engagement, received different information from different employees. Had to ask several different employees (a few even twice) to speak to the manager. Finally spoke to someone who seemed like they were in charge to request a refund of my $50 for my 30 mins of time at the water park before we were kicked out of the water for a storm over in kerrville. read more

The Flying L was a good time, but lacked some things that would have made it great. Now, I do that they changed ownership only 2 weeks prior to our stay, but we should have been notified prior to getting there that some key features would not be there. For Instance, the Chuckwagon Dinner that they say on their website as "every Saturday night" was not offered on the Saturday we went. This was the main reason we came on Saturday. Also, all of the restaurants on property were under construction or renovation. I do understand that the purpose is to make it better, but when you purchase a meal plan and get a voucher to a restaurant in town, it is not the same. Again, since the new owners don't have an alcohol license yet, there was no liquor on property. This isn't a huge problem if notified beforehand, but as I said we were not. Now with these lows, their were good things. The campfire was always nice, and Buck does a good job. Also, the golf course is a hill country gem. It's definitely a challenging course, and for not a whole lot of cash either. The staff were mostly nice and helpful, and the creek side was pretty private. Luckily, we met some old friends unexpectedly at the resort and had fun for a few nights before we left. So all in all, a good time that just wasn't as good as we thought it would be. But, I will make sure to come back at a later date to see how the new owners have improved the property. read more

Saturday night wagon ride dinner. For $35 per person this was quite the disappointment. The wagon to ride to the little western town broke down so we had to wait for a bus. When we arrived we were told to go get food first before it runs out. While we were getting our very small portions of food, they were putting away the ponies for the night. This is what the little kids came for! Our complaints fell on deaf ears, so be warned that it is not worth the $35 per person. read more

We reserved the " ghost ride" for 2 adults and a toddler and it cost us over $90 bucks. There were several issues, including disappointing food, and very poor customer service. - The place felt overbooked.... it was difficult to find a place to sit and eat. - The food was cold - The portions were very small, which ended up not being a problem because it was not very good. - The ponies rides ended at 7:30, thus our kid wasn't able to ride. - The fire wasn't ready for s'mores until the bus was leaving. This was not worth the price. The worst is we tried to express our concerns to the front desk, but she seemed completely uninterested. I called for the manager and ... no one called us back. We stayed in a "historic villa," (think really old, worn room) during a bike rally. We knew by the photos what it would look like but what we didn't anticipate is someone having the extremely poor judgement to paint the interior with a noxious (enamel?) paint near our arrival time. The smell was overwhelming when we opened the door, but we were certain that there would be no alternative anywhere in town as hotels were fully booked due to the bike rally so we elected to try and air out the room in hopes that it would dissipate overnight. Unfortunately, we were unable to off gas/vent the room by opening the windows as there were no window screens except next to the front door. Then there was the issue of the most uncomfortable bed I've ever slept in. Every time you or your spouse moves, it squeaks and makes the other person bounce. The living room furniture was soiled and worn. Over the weekend, the room's toxic odor never diminished, and my resulting headache only got worse; lasting for a day even after we returned home. I felt like I had been poisoned. I had to wash the clothes that I hadn't even worn but were in my bag due to the strong chemical smell. $400 for two nights of misery.....never again. read more

Went here to get away from the hustle and bustle of Houston (especially the traffic). Stayed in one of their deluxe suites and for the most part I did enjoy my stay. Hung out with Cowboy "Buck", who took us on a night run to see wild deer (I wish I knew you could feed them but only on Sunday's). Also went horseback riding which was a lot of fun! Saw a baby coyote on the trail, and was told..it would probably get killed...I understand the livestock situation but me being a lover of animals, here's hoping the lil pup is safe somewhere. I wish I got a chance to go hiking, but the hiking trail is only open in the afternoon when I think the best time to go is in the early morning when its nice and cool in the morning. But sadly, that interferes with the horse back riding trail. all in all, this place was gorgeous!! Would love to come to this area again (was also seriously debating about buying a house out here...but nah..only if I was in my 50's) read more

This place is a ripoff. Almost $600 for 2 nights! Everything the place offers just about is an additional cost. The bed is worn out, the sleeper sofa is a joke, shower door was falling off the tracks. Golf was nice. Grounds are nice but for the money it's not worth it read more

Spent a weekend here with my family riding horses, eating excellent comfort food, sitting around campfires, and just getting back to the basics of life. What a relaxing place! The staff was fantastic: knowledgeable, authentic, cordial, positive and fun-loving. Although we didn't play, there is an 18-hole golf course, too! And get this: a round of golf, with your own cart and FREE club rentals.... $25! Yes, you read that right, only $25! There is also a water park with slides, a lazy river, and a wave pool. I was there in the winter, so the park wasn't open, but I'll be sure to bring my kids back during warmer months. read more

Just returned last night from a Wonderful week at the Flying L Resort. We exchanged a banked timeshare week and stayed at the beautiful Western Suites. The rooms were delightfully decorated in western theme from the kitchen to the bathrooms. We had an electric fireplace that really added a great feel to the suite. Due to the fact that our timeshare is two bedrooms they gave us two adjoining suites. There were only the 2 of us so we stayed mainly in the larger suite while taking advantage of 2 bathrooms. The staff at the Ranch were friendly, caring and very accommodating. We ate breakfast and a dinner there and were very pleased with the food. The beers were ice cold! Tashana and Carol were delightful. We were able to do the campfire with Buck one night and really enjoyed it. We loved exploring the town of Bandera and heading back to the ranch in the evening. We also traveled 3 days back and forth into San Antonio and loved coming back to relax at the ranch. We knew this was the slow time and that the Golf course was closed. The February '21 ice storm caused a lot of damage to golf course and water park that they are still repairing. Admittedly, we are 2 New Yorkers who came looking for warmer temperatures and and a change of scenery. We feel we really lucked out staying at the Flying L Ranch. We will be back when the golf course is open!! read more

I really enjoyed my visit to this place but I think it would be better with a family. I'm more of the high adventure OR do nothing at all type. I do not like being in between the two.... We spent a lot of money to stay there and got lots of options but after 3 days of the same food, same atmosphere and same old thing, it got a little old. I do not play golf and I didn't get a chance to check out the water park but, they have a lot of interesting stuff going on with the tiki bar in the water park, another bar in the main house, and the pool is nice too. We stayed in the Colonel's Quarters and there was a pretty bad smell in there when we turned on the hot water. One person said it was the hot water heater another said it was because the well water just smelled. Well I didn't want to take a shower because of the smell. Other than that the Colonel's Quarters are really nice. It's a great way to have a large family or a large group retreat because each room is like a hotel room while the main room is like a large rental house. It makes it good for parties and for sleeping if you aren't looking to stay up late. The staff really does a good job making you feel like you are important but I just don't know if this is the place for me. read more

I have never stayed here but visited friends staying here and drove through all their facilities. Has lots of things to do with the family such as petting zoo, mini water park with lazy river, pool, tennis & basketball court, full golf course, a little area called "Ghost Town" and another area by the water. Lots of white tail and black buck casually walking around the property towards the back. I gave 3 stars because after visiting this weekend the place has fallen quite a bit since I saw it last. We had a great time at the Flying L. It's a perfect place to take the kids or grandkids like I did. They LOVED it and never got bored. Buck is a great host and is great with the kids. We meet lots of nice people from all over and the town of Bandera is filled with nightly music and great restaurants. I asked my grandkids if they wanted to come back next year or go to Disney Land and they want to come back to the flying L.. I gave it 4 stars because I'm very picky and they still have a few things to work on as they changed ownership but my grandkids give them a five star. read more
