A few of us visited flying X during a stay in Pendleton for a conference. The location is technically underground, and part of the Pendleton underground network which makes this a really neat ambience. Recommend anybody visiting Pendleton to stop in for a bite to eat or a drink. We were able to meet both owners and hear their story of the location and had a few drinks. I cannot believe such a fantastic, welcoming place exists in Pendleton, but I'm so glad it does! Cocktails are top shelf, and the beer/wine list is great. The menu is diverse enough, but not one of those that's trying to be everything at once. There are vegetarian items, charcuterie for the board lovers, and interesting entrees. The quality of our meal was extremely good. And the service? Outstanding. Not too much, but you're not forgotten either. They had a light touch that we appreciated. The best thing was the general vibe: cool without irony, creative but not pretentious, open to *everyone* with no side-eye, and just straight up FUN. We'll definitely be back, next time to enjoy the sweet couches in the corner where we can sip and chat all evening. Honestly we were all excited to visit this new establishment, as we came from out of town for my sisters birthday,unfortunately it didn't turn out that way. We are always very courteous and understanding but when there is so many mishaps it's kind of hard to want to go back, the one owner Tim was very sweet and kind when he found out that we found a piece of plastic in our food, and there were a few more issues we came across , the other owner was just the opposite! He was very intimidating and as far as we are concerned didn't know how to treat his customers! He cared more about his 5 star rating than he did trying to remedy the situation, although he gave $5 off the meals that wasn't what we wanted it was more about the customer service for the said plastic found in the meal. read more

Wow. There are a lot of layers in this outfit. Small menu, interesting selections, decor is eccentric. Notes of the West, Pendleton, the Northwest, Europe, big city, small town, the club scene, steak house, pasta house, rodeo bar, ladies night, men's club. And they don't explain any of it! You totally get to make it your own place. Ample seating, comfortable climate, architectural eye candy keeps your eyes moving, and the place is clean. Attention to detail everywhere. All the staff was unique, all personable, all knowledgeable, bartender looked like she knew what she was doing, Arnold Palmer made right, strawberry lemonade was OMG. Food pacing was good, waiter and host were attentive but not intrusive. Entree was over the top seafood pasta thing with a crazy name, and they split it into 2 plates in the kitchen so me and the spousal unit could both eat it. Did you catch that? They split it. They didn't just bring an extra plate. Literally the first restaurant to ever do that. And - no extra plate fee! Who does that?! That alone is worth 5 stars. And the prawn appetizer. Thank you for knowing what a prawn is. Size matters in many things, and shrimp vs prawn is decided by size. Shrimp, it's kinda in the name. Mushroom was right where it should have been. Salad was fresh and tasty, soup was hot and fresh. Dessert was another Italian sounding name made up of ice cream and a shot of espresso. That alone is worth another 5 stars. You would think an Italian fine dining, their words not mine, restaurant would have Dean Martin on the speakers, maybe Frank Sinatra, but I swear I heard a country song, and I'm pretty sure most of the music was less than 10 years old, but it fit. I hate to coin a new phrase, but being a detail guy, the entire experience was harmoniously discordant. It was eclectic, but it all fit. I'm not sure what they were aiming for, but they hit target. It's a good spot for a date, an anniversary, a fancy business meeting, a drink after work or a hard day, t-shirt or tuxedo. It's rare that I don't have a negative or sub par note, but not here. Even the food pricing was right. Who ever is in charge there needs to hold a seminar and pass on the secrets. Don't miss an opportunity to go have one of the best meal experiences in town. read more

I thought I had reviews already. The ambiance is the best you are going to find in Pendleton. The cocktails are spot on. Every one of the signature cocktails is exactly what it purports to be. Bonus if you are whiskey fan they have a solid selection. The staff is friendly and helpful. I have never met anyone working that I didn't not enjoy. Moving onto the food. I have tried several of the appetizers and found them all enjoyable. The seafood pasta dish is good, but sometimes when they get busy the pasta will over cook. I always prefer my pasta Al dente. If you like it softer that won't be a problem. I found the Al Fredo surprisingly good as was the pesto. Surprisingly, the vegetarian options were excellent. I would like to see them do an eggplant. Maybe they will in the future. I don't make it Pendleton much any more so I don't get to eat here as often, but for a while this was my normal once a week dining out experience. If you don't have time for dinner, then definitely go for a cocktail. It is worth the time. read more
