I am looking around for a new gym. Seems like I find a gym and then life throws me a ball and I am in search of another gym. So I came here using my 1 week free pass to check it out before I commit to a year (or 2) membership. There are two levels with the changing rooms and spin room on the lower level with the main check in desk. The upper level has the fitness room, cardio equipment and weights. This is a fairly small local place but is in clean decent shape. They do have up to date equipment and offer some good classes. The spin classes in the morning at 6 are full with a wait list. Although it is hard to get in the fact that it is full speaks for itself. I myself haven't taken a class and am thinking about it but augh 6 am to be on a bike. These folks really mean it! I've taken the step class and the Zumba and they were awesome. I def got my cardio work out. I am still need to test run a few others but this place may work. It is close to the commuter rail so getting off the train and right over for a work out is doable (not sure if this is a word). They do have a pool although I am not a swimmer. The weight room is a bit small but they have the basics and there are a mix of people at different times. Not sure I am finding the right workout group yet. I am looking for an energetic group of folks to help get me motivated and kick me into gear to get off my butt. I am not sure this is it. They will give you a lock for the lockers when you give them your keys and you can use the supplies such as hair dryer, shampoo, conditioner, shower soap too since all are fully stocked and right in the showers. Gym is and equipment is kept in top notch condition. The locker rooms are basic and the over all vibe is quiet and older crowd. If you like to work out in a quiet clean gym this is good one. If you want more of "a scene" this is not the place. Classes are solid with good instruction. read more

I can't be more happy. I love this place! I have been a slug for the past 12 years. Living in New England isn't a good thing for me. I don't like to ski and I have had a strong dislike of gyms. Walking up the stairs to check it out, I heard the familiar sounds of a gym - the slamming clang of a weight dropping and the driving beat of music. At this point, I am thinking, what the heck am I doing? I got to the top of the stairs and was so pleasantly surprised. It is clean, bright, doesn't smell, and is not at all intimidating. I love the machines! Much better than what I remember from past experiences. The members are all different ages, and very nice, considerate people. And then there is Marion. I have never had a personal trainer - always found it too expensive. She is reasonably priced and it has made an entire difference in my experience. I am getting so much more out of the gym than I would if I hadn't had a trainer. She teaches me how to properly use each machine. I haven't used her to push me - not yet. Marion is very knowledgeable, is a natural teacher and knows how to encourage me. Before I conclude, I need to mention Louise, the owner. She truly loves what she does and has built a business that she should be proud of. I am grateful for having such an awesome gym. Don't delay. Join this place! read more

Refreshing alternative to the giant clubs with loud booming music and the indifferent 20-something staff. Family-friendly, with a staffed playroom for little ones. Small, clean, salt water pool, tanning, steam room and sauna. The yoga and Pilates classes are great and offered at times of day that fit my schedule, not just at the crack of dawn and evenings - which I can never do. The equipment is in great condition, with lots of new machines. The locker rooms are clean and well stocked with nice shampoos and conditioner and a locker provided upon entry when you surrender your keys. You get two complimentary fitness, evaluation and training sessions with their fabulous personal trainer, Alison, who seems to be pleasantly omnipresent whenever I need a boost! In all a friendly, clean, smaller gym experience with a pleasant, diverse demographic, where you feel like you are part of a small family. Highly recommend if you are looking to get away from a Planet Fitness or Golds Gym scene. read more

I've been a member of FOF for 10 years - first in Framingham and for the last couple of years at their new location in Ashland (conveniently a half-mile from my house). I'm a big fan of the early morning classes but also use the cardio equipment and weight circuit. Everything is in good shape and there's plenty of variety. The club in its new location is super clean and well-maintained (I might not have said that in Framingham). The instructors are all wonderful - thanks all for keeping me on track! More than anything, it feels like a real community and we all need that! The only thing I miss is the pool... but I'm not ready to pay the big bucks for that at one of the big Framingham clubs. read more

I started FOF in March and am extremely happy I did. They have a wonderful staff, lots of different cardio equipment, and it's very clean. The ladies locker room/bathroom is like walking into my own. It's never crowded and never a wait to use the cardio, weights, or machines. So many different classes to take with convenient times of the day. I also hired Marc as my trainer and can't say enough about him. First and foremost very professional and knowledgeable. He is encouraging, patient, and always has a positive attitude. A definite asset to the club. I have been working out for many years and at several gyms and I have never been happier. I could not be happier that focus on fitness opened up in Ashland! It is the best gym I have ever been a member of and the fact that it is reasonably priced is the icing on the cake. They have a lot of options of classes and times to choose from- I have been more than satisfied (and sore!) from every class I have tried so far. The instructors are great, helpful and really know what they are talking about. Other members make you feel welcome and it is just an overall great atmosphere. I have yet to actually try any equipment in the gym- I have only done classes but it all looks like it's either brand new or in really good condition, everything always looks and smells clean and the staff is very nice and helpful. I loooove FoF! The staff are all so nice and really care about members. Nothing fake here. The members are also very nice and enjoy being with each other. Everyone has been very welcoming and is supportive of fitness as a lifestyle. But not in a competitive or crazy way. The facility is spotless! Equipment is new and clean. Vibe is casual, supportive, welcoming and respectful. Everything is available from fun classes with qualified, down to earth, personable instructors to personal training, to plenty of room to work out on your own. Towels are included w/Membership and the showers are super clean. Louise, the owner, makes sure everything is perfect. Really nice! I came here in June, to improve if not maintain my overall fitness goals during my summer break. I was slightly apprehensive, as my past experience with gym's usually have only seen them as impersonal megacomplexes. This place is Perfect! The owner is a really kind lady, she helps everyone out a lot. I've never seen a gym so clean before and the staff and owner go to extreme lengths, to make sure all the services are there and present for the users. Very safe and very nice place! I joined this gym out of convenience as it is near my office.... and that's about the only redeeming quality. There are a lot of classes, and the instructors are wonderful, but the rest of the facility falls far short of the standard set by the instructors (who are energetic and very friendly). The main problems stem from upkeep -- Light bulbs that are blown for weeks leaving parts of the weight floor in semi-darkness; pads on the weight machines that are cracked and worn out; lockers that have a layer of dirt on the bottom (far more than would accumulate in a day or week); showers with black residue in the grout/sealant; exposed dry wall in the men's locker room with no signs of work being completed; stained towels, etc. On the whole -- Great people, lots of classes, very poor upkeep and cleaning which really lets the place down and leaves me on the hunt for a better convenient option. read more

I can't say enough good about this place! I've been a member for over a year now and one of the things that drew me to this gym was the fact that you can buy a package of visits instead of just a membership. Options are good especially for road warriors like me. The 6 AM group power classes are my favorite. Both Danielle and Alison are amazing. They give free towel service as well. The cherry on top is that everyone is super friendly. I've always felt very welcome and have made many friends. Makes getting up at 5 AM that much easier. read more

Focus on Fitness is a wonderful place for people who want to embark on a fitness journey. The staff is caring and the facilities are perfect. Louise Boland, the owner, just upgraded all the spin bikes and put in a new hardwood floor in the studio. The gym is just a year old at its new location across from Shaw's market. Besides a clean and welcoming place, FOF offers many free classes with your membership including Power, Spin, Step Aerobics, boot camp. They also have hot yoga for an additional fee and some small group training sessions like TRX and boot camp/Trx combo. I have been a member for over 4 years because not only is is the facility great, the members are also very considerate of each other and helpful when you are new. There is definitely a feeling of paying kindness forward that I have never seen in a gym. The staff is very professional and knowledgeable. Most people have been there quite a few years. I would equate it to a feeling like the TV show Cheers, where everyone knows you name. The pricing is very reasonable as well. More than anything, FOF will get you going in on a regular basis so you see progress. read more

FOF is one of the best gyms in the area. All the staff are friendly and helpful and always greet you. The gym is impeccably clean and you never need to wait for a machine. There is an exclusive feel to this gym. I highly recommend to anyone interested in joining a gym that is a step above the rest. If I wasn't moving I would be a lifetime member! This is a wonderful, welcoming club with rows of gleaming equipment--including 20 beautiful new bikes in the Spin class room. But that's not what makes this place so wonderful. The heart of FOF is its people, from the cheerfully capable staff members who greet you at the reception desk to the professional, supportive instructors and trainers to the owner herself. Louise Boland is genuinely committed to helping members achieve their fitness goals and that commitment reverberates throughout the club. To top it off, even the members are supportive and friendly.
