Very nice restaurant with lots of atmosphere. Nice view overlooking the water and the nearby marina. The food is excellent, I had the shrimp and grits, which was yummy. The staff all wear masks, but it is not required for customers. They sell beer here but not wine, but you can bring your own wine. They charge $3.50 for a wine glass, but that was fine. Overall a good place to go for couples or for date night, especially since there are not a lot of choices in the area. read more

We drove almost an hour to Foglight Foodhouse on the recommendation of a good friend. My parents were with me and I was excited for some Cajun food. I wish I could say it was worth the trip. My Dads Catfish was bland and he described it as "slimy ", my Moms Chicken Alfredo was good she said but not great, and I ordered crab cakes that came covered in cold sauce that made them cold, wet and gummy. None of us finished our meals and we left and got burgers at Hwy 55 on the way home. The food was not inexpensive and the flavors just weren't there. We still love this place!! It's on the pricey side for us so we don't eat there very often. But when we do it is so hard to decide on what I want. Because I know everything that Edward the Chef cooks will be totally awesome. Best little kept secret place you'll find. So if you are near Walling, TN make sure you turn onto Powerhouse Road and eat at the Foglight Foodhouse. Perfect ambiance, super friendly staff, over looks the river. Inside and outside seating. Bring your own bottle if you want wine or liquor. Wine glasses will be provided. They do have beer, including Sparta's Calf Killer Beer and many others. The Foglight Foodhouse has won the 2018 Certificate of Excellence from Tripadvisor. Hoping they bring it home again in 2019. read more

This was our first visit while staying at Rock Island State Park nearby. Food was great inn this area. We were second to be seated on a Thursday night. No wait. Food was great. We attended with a couple new friends and thankfully were put in the back room so we didn't have to bother anyone with our loud horrible sense of humors. Shout out to that chef! Man does he know how to cook!!! Went here for a birthday celebration, with a party of 4. Quick service, we didn't even have to wait for a table. Jamie, our server, was quick, efficient, & super polite! We were seated on the back deck, with a beautiful view of the river. We ordered an appetizer of Hillbilly bread, very rich in flavor the goat cheese and honey was perfect and savory. I ordered the salmon with white wine parmesan cheese grits, and asparagus. A DELICACY!! 10/10 flavorful perfectly cooked and a healthy large portion. We were all trying each others dishes, because we were so impressed by the quality of the food. My husband and I enjoyed the friendly service and our food (crab cakes; salad w/ apple date dressing; fried catfish; and the pork lollipops, which as advertised, fell right off the bone). My only complaint is this: my hubs ordered a draft beer. He's the one and done type, so he was quite perplexed when our server brought him another one once his reached the bottom. The server was busy and hopping from table to table, so she just dropped it and ran and we didn't see her again for quite some time. Thinking that maybe there was some sort of BOGO deal going on, and not wanting to see a good beer wasted, he sipped on it with his meal. Then, the bill arrives and we find we'd been charged for two... um, okay. It might be a good idea to instruct your servers to actually ASK before they bring a refill on the frothy $5 beverages... Truth be told, if this place were in Nashville, I would tell you it was ridiculously overpriced. But considering it's one of very, VERY few options in the area that is not deep fried fast food, I'd say the overall experience was worth recommending. I stayed with friends near Sparta over a weekend and invited them to dinner. They chose this place, which otherwise I'd never have found on my own. We arrived at opening as the first customers, got the a table by the window overlooking the lake, and had our drink and appetizer order in almost immediately. As my friends had been here many times, they quickly recommended our meals: stuffed mushroom appetizer, "coyboy lollipops", swamp cakes, and crawfish etouffee for me. I also had a local craft beer. We added salads to our entrees; the chipotle ranch dressing was very good. No room for dessert. Bill was $100 before the tip. read more

I had to ask someone for refills of our drinks...and ask someone else if they would remove our appetizer plates AFTER our meals had arrived. After very mediocre service, because we were a table of 8 a 20% tip was added to each (4) of our tickets....didn't appreciate that much after the service that we were given. My husband and I went here for his birthday with some of our friends from Rock Island (we are from Los Angeles), and my lord, was this food good. Every employee I encountered was so kind. The woman who I assume may be an owner or manager was constantly bussing tables/greeting guests/seating guests/etc. The atmosphere was great and I loved sitting out on the back deck. The kittens running around provided some great entertainment along with the amazing food. The banana walnut bread pudding was to die for! As a tourist, I know a lot of places around the park lack masked employees, but this was not one of them! Every employee I saw was masked and working extremely hard. Amazing gourmet food in the middle of nowhere. We fell into the place after a 97 degree hiking adventure. The bloody Mary made with Zing Zang and Ying Ling beer was waiting for me filled with ice, nothing better for my aching bones. Although we arrived right before closing the wait staff could not have been more accommodating. We dined on stuffed mushrooms filled with goat cheese and eggs crabcake benedict. OMG, the food, the food the food, was extraordinary. We brought home 2 cups of their crab bisque and it was just delightful. This is a hidden treasure and I cannot wait to further explore. read more

The looks and location of the restaurant were great. They also had a very small beer bar to wait in. We had to wait 20min to be seated and there were 10 open tables. Food took a long time to come out as well. I think the food was as described on the menus, just tried to take everything over the top a little too much. Foglight Foodhouse is in a great location (out in the middle of nowhere in the beautiful Rock Island State Park) and has great ambiance. They also have excellent blackened chicken crawfish alfredo. And that's where the wonderful ends. We showed up at 5:00 when they opened. The hostess started taking names and made people wait to be seated, even though there was a restaurant full of free tables. Slowly people were shown to their table. We were only 4th or 5th on the list but It took 30 minutes for our party to be seated. Service was rather mediocre but though slow at times our waitress wasn't terrible. She did manage to keep the drinks filled, which was well appreciated. Food took a very long time to arrive, even considering there were 8 of us. The quality of food was sadly lacking overall. Two of us ordered pasta and both dishes were very good. A couple others ordered the etouffee and it was just plain terrible - the sauce wasn't good and the spice was overwhelming. Both dishes should have been returned to the kitchen, it was that bad. Two others ordered the sea bass - one said it was just 'ok' and the other had to send it back because it was so rubbery. Another ordered chicken and sent it back due to the excessive smokey flavor. At no point did the manager come around to apologize or offer restitution - one of our party finally asked for the manager who ended up not being helpful. One of the worst dining experiences I've had the displeasure of encountering. Will not return. read more

I am sorry I can not recommend this restaurant. The food is just odd, and not odd in a good way. For example all the Cajun dishes have lots of sugar added so there is a really strange sweet taste. Also something called tomato jam covers quite a lot of dishes like my smoked lemon trout. The trout was dry and flavorless and covered with this sweet tomato jam. I could not eat it. You need GPS to find this restaurant if you are not from this area. You will see more raccoons than human beings because it is in the middle of the thick Tennessee forest. However, it seems that locals love this place. We were there during weekdays and we had to wait to be seated. The warm and homey atmosphere is not the only factor that attract its guests. Surrounded by placid forest and pellucid Caney Fork River, dinning at this restaurant is therapeutic. To me, all those above are important elements to assure a pleasant time spent with love ones and dear friends. This restaurant almost took me to that utopia land only if its food could show me the magic. After all, we are talking about Cajun food. For that, it has failed to have me surrendered myself to that tiny bite of Étouffée. Call me bias. I admit I am not that easily to be convinced when it comes to good Cajun food, not mention I am a spoiled non-Cajun girl who adore Chef Paul Prudhomme's cooking. I wish I could spend more time in this area to try few more dishes of Foglight Foodhouse besides its Cajun food. I believe that behind all the loyal customers, there must be an excellent chef that dedicates all his/her efforts to establish a successful business. I got their BBQ pulled pork over waffles, with green beans. Waffles were very dry and there was hardly and sauce on the pork to compensated for the waffles. In town for a Bluegrass Underground concert, our B&B inn keeper recommend Foglight Food house as the number 1 place to have dinner. They suggested we be patient, that food would be excellent but the only downside is that it sometimes takes a while for food to come out (reasonable for a made-from-scratch shop - but we NEVER experienced slow service. This was not a concern for us at all.) Jamie was our waiter. He was on point, gave recommendations, informed is of the food and local area, never let the beer glass get empty, and just all around personable. (PS - if you are Jamie's boss and reading this, give him a bonus. He is the kind of person you want on the floor, representing your brand!) Mushrooms for the appetizer- outstanding. Ask for bread to mop up the sauce. Local beer by calfkiller. Beer so good we drove to the brewery the next morning to take a tour. Outstanding. I ordered a pasta/beef/asparagus/blue cheese dish that was so good I wanted to go kiss everyone in the kitchen in thanks. Outstanding. My wife ordered the swamp (crab) cakes with grits and a side of the crawfish bisque. It was so good she wouldn't even let me have a taste. Her vote - outstanding! This is an out of the way food destination. The food is made to order, made in house, and served with love. Do not go if you were in a rush because you will want to enjoy getting out of town and retreating to a place that seems far away. Take advantage of that. Slow down. Enjoy your company. And put your phone down. The menu is small but perfected. Each menu item is a work of art. Many times restaurants have so many items to choose from and don't stay consistent, but this place fine tuned their menu, the presentation, the flavor, and the quality. And the portions are wonderful. You will not be disappointed. If you think you can go to a Red Lobster, Cheddar's, Logan's, or some other franchise and get more bang for your buck, you are out of your mind. Ditch the franchise and support your local family. The quality, flavor, variety, creativity, and destination make all those other places look like fast food. Waitstaff was attentive and our party of eight could not have been better served (Deanna?) Ordered appetizers of mushrooms (incredibly rich and flavorful) as well as the pretzel knots. The sauce with the knots could well have been the highlight of the meal! Everyone ordered different entrees and I don't believe anyone finished! Two of the party ordered salad with salmon and both could not have been more impressed. No one in the party expressed anything but joy related to their choice! When I have a "do over" I plan to hit the salmon instead of the Cajun sampler. While flavor profile was great it was heavier on the rice than I would have liked and lighter on crawfish. No feedback on dessert. Only one in party ordered the white chocolate bread pudding...took half home since all were at capacity! Looked great and obviously good enough to box and take home. Unique and beautifully situated overlooking the Caney Fork Chef is personable and makes the rounds Personally I think it can be heavy handed on the spices and the " Cajun" stuff deserves quotation marks cause it's def the fog lights own version. i.e. Way over spiced. I had the blackened ribeye and my wife the chicken Louie. Ribeye was a little too spicy for me but very good and tender. My wife loved the chicken. This was arguably the best meal we had on our trip. We started out at the bar with the Parmesan mushrooms and some local calfkiller beer. The Parmesan mushrooms were nothing short of amazing. They are not breaded and fried, nor are they full of bready stuffing. They are perfect little bites of love. The calfkiller beer was delicious and complimented our food well. For the main course I ordered the Blue Winged Olive. I don't know who thought it was a good idea to put blue cheese and bacon on rainbow trout, but they are brilliant. It was absolutely delicious. My husband ordered the Swamp Cakes-crab cakes with étouffée sauce and the best grits either of us have ever tasted. Both meals were wonderful. The service was great and the prices are reasonable considering the amount and quality of food. We were in town for the Bluegrass Underground, next time we are in the area, Foghouse Food House will certainly be at the top of our dinner list. read more
