Great environment-don't see many kids-small bar area-beer only. Bring your own wine-cork fee is $3.50 each member. Waiting area inside with seating-outdoor area to eat. Business still booming after 30 years. Menu diverse-Cajun, steak, seafood-soup and salad. Dessert menu changes. Food mediocre-service above average.

A really great spot off the beaten path with a great view of the water. Everything we tried on the menu was delicious!

    Shrimp and grits!!

Our group really enjoyed eating at the cute Foglight Foodhouse just outside Rock Island State Park. We did have a bit of a wait, but we took some drinks outside under a cozy pavilion and talked of our day exploring the park. We were seated outside for our dining experience. Such a fun server who was very attentive to our groups' needs. Everyone got such tasty looking dishes, we just wanted to get a bite of each! My meal was a cup of their smooth crawfish bisque. Yum! Then a plate of tasty shrimp and grits! Seasoned just right! The splash of sherry just brought it all together! Very pleased with our time spent at the Foodhouse!

Terrible slow service. Waited over an hour for food. Unhappy with service. Had empty tables but would not seat us and other patrons.

It's my last night in Nashville so I want to go to a bang zoom restaurant. A few of my co workers have said to me: Mr Bill, we see every night you're going out to some amazing spots. Mind if we tag along? Sure, the rules are to keep your fork outta my plate when we sit down. Deal? The restaurant is very large, we're shown to our table. Set in the middle of the dining room and facing the bar. The bar can seat at least 25 people, the restaurant is set up for fun. To get our party started, I ordered a well crafted cocktail: Tea'd Up Old Fashioned Made with Bourbon, Black Tea and House Barrel Aged Bitters. Funky?? Oh yeah I'm with a bunch of Military Veterans and they're telling me their crazy stories. I'm sippin' my Old Fashioned and taking it all in, we need to bond over drinks and crazy things we all drank overseas. As an adult, I can appreciate my Nashville TN Old Fashioned with Black Tea. While we're talking, our waitress drops off a plate of homemade biscuits. The biscuits are fire! Buttery, flakey and moist, The Southern Steak & Oyster can make a damn good biscuit. Next, my Gumbo comes to me. The first taste I can tell this is a chef'd up dish. Better than anything I had in New Orleans. This gumbo is filled with Andouille, Crawfish, Shrimp and Fried Okra. Very flavorful indeed. My last entree in Nashville will be Fish 'N Grits. Fresh fish topped with Spicy Tasso Ham over Sweet Potato Grits and Bacon Braised Cabbage. This is a flavorful dish, the grits are very creamy and the cook on the fish was spot on. We had a great night at The Southern Steak & Oyster, it was a pleasure to dine at your restaurant.

On one visit with only a few of us there our bartender disappeared for a good 20 minutes. Upon his return he was focused on everything but the 5 of us in the place until we finally had to ask to get service. The other visit everyone helped me but the actual server. Maybe this is a staffing problem, I don't know but being stuck for 20 minutes to order another drink with my meal is not acceptable. Although they had that check in my hand in under a minute and in under another minute to process. Again, super nicer people, but kind of oblivious. 2) Now let's talk about the kitchen. And I'm adding some input from the other diners because we all sat there waiting. - flavors are great, but the salt and spice level is overboard. I had the mushroom appetizer and nearly choked/coughed to death. I like heat but this was raw spice that overpowered the dish. And the salt about made my feet swell into balloons. Such a shame because the idea is great just poor execution - deviled eggs. Pass - BBQ Shrimp, sort of like the mushrooms right profile but overpowering - gumbo. Two other people had the gumbo and when I asked they said that too is just over spiced I want to like this place, but probably my last visit unless I just come for oysters. Sorry

Sad to see, I'm not sure outside of the obvious recession if that is playing a part but the customers were there, however the complete lack of service was not. We got water 30 minutes after I complained, tables full of people or full of trash. Food came at the 2 hour mark and we watched group after group leave. Only sandwiches on menu now and fries well they took order for it but served fried tomatoes which we also had as an appetizer, said they didn't have any fries. No one paid attention to anyone unless you were sitting at the bar for drinks. Unfortunately once a place we enjoyed will not go back to. Everything Changed and the Resturaunt seems it's sadly on its way out. Just my opinion.

Went on a Saturday morning not long after they opened. All staff were wearing masks which eased our concerns about going out to celebrate. Fried Green Tomatoes are the BEST I've had in many, many years. Sliced perfectly with a cornmeal breading that was seasoned to perfection and fried to a wonderful crispness and drizzled with the chipotle crema. I could have eaten 2 plates of them and been thoroughly satisfied. However I also had the Bootlegger Chicken Fried, not hot, minus the lettuce and onion. Also very good no sauce, spreads or dressings needed--seasoned well. Hubby had the Duo Dip and the Stillhouse Farm Burger. I only tested the Duo Dip which was also amazing but his plate was empty from the burger so that tells me it was good. He also had a side of Pimento Mac and cheese bake--YUMMY!! Drinks-- Cos-Moon-Politan was amazing and not lacking in anything. Short Mountain Long Island also quite yummy but I like the cosmo better. Moonshine Brownie Trifle--just don't. No really YOU ABSOLUTELY SHOULD GET THIS!!! OMG!!! Excellent finish to the entire experience.

The BEST scotch eggs I've ever had and served with a mustard aioli that just completes the dish. The Fred eggs Benedict was delicious. Thick piece of ham that was like cutting through butter. Paired with the cheddar grits, which were also amazing! If you're in the area and a foodie this place is a MUST! They also had chocolate gravy... yes that's correct... chocolate! We didn't try it but I'm sure it's great. Fun fact... there's a QR code in the front at the hostess stand and in the bathroom for 25% off your first meal if you sign up for texts! Make sure you tip good, this place is well worth it! We will definitely be back next time we are in town.

Cumberland Biscuit has always been my go to breakfast place for visiting family and friends. While…read morethe service remains great and the restaurant is always clean with a friendly atmosphere, my meals during the last 3 visits have been disappointing. First visit, I asked if my waffle could be served later because I like it hot and fresh. I was told that's fine, but when they brought it out it was cold. Server offered to make it fresh and that was great. It was obviously warmed in a microwave and was floppy like a pancake when she reserved my waffle. Second visit I decided pancakes may be a better option, but when they brought them out they were hard and rubbery. This time I mentioned the previous incident and was told to specify making them fresh upon request, otherwise they remain under the warmer which makes them hard and rubbery while still warm. Makes sense. This most recent visit with family, two of us ordered the biscuits and gravy. The gravy was so watery it soaked into the biscuit making it soggy. The usually very tasty home fries were simply cooked potatoes with no seasoning (they've always been very flavorful) and the over medium eggs had runny whites. The coffee had a burnt taste which is not the norm. It's usually hot, fresh and tastes better than the average cafe coffee. The recent inconsistency in the quality of the food is really disappointing. Willing to give it another try in the future, but definitely taking a break for a spell.

My husband had the New York, grilled asparagus and wedge salad... also delicious and cooked perfectly. Due to it being our anniversary, they offered us a free dessert... we had the Tres Leches and it was amazing! My only thing I'd suggest to the owners is some fresh baked bread served before dinner. As someone who dines out regularly in this area and truly enjoys supporting local restaurants, I…read morereally wanted this place to live up to its "high-end" positioning. Unfortunately, after two separate visits, it has consistently fallen short in both service and execution. For a restaurant where nothing on the menu is under $22, expectations are naturally higher. On both visits, our reservation was mishandled and we were seated in the bar area instead of the dining room, despite specifically requesting dining room seating. The open seating layout--no booths--combined with an open kitchen that vents directly into the dining space resulted in a smoky environment, and we left smelling like food each time, which is not what most diners expect from an upscale experience. Service pacing was another issue. We waited over an hour for our food, with no complimentary bread or salad offered--again, unusual for a restaurant at this price point. When the food finally arrived, it was disappointing across the table. The $32 salmon was extremely dry and lacked flavor to the point that I couldn't eat it even though the server stated they only cook salmon medium which is the way I like it. The steak had burnt/charred dry edges and was supposed to be a 12oz NY strip. Look at the picture, I have never seen a NY strip this shape but my husband was ravenous so he didn't say anything and just ate it. The Brussel sprouts were mushy, and most concerning, my son's battered fish had raw batter inside. I believe in giving restaurants a fair chance, which is why we returned after the first visit. Unfortunately, two poor experiences signal a pattern, not a fluke. There are simply better options nearby--including Filo's and High Point--that offer better service, better food, and lower prices. I genuinely hope this restaurant improves, because the concept has potential, but as it stands, it does not deliver the quality or experience its pricing promises. For now, I'd recommend spending your dining dollars elsewhere.
