The 2007 Lazy S Pinot Noir and the 2007 2 sisters chardonnay were the best of the wines I tasted here. They were priced accordingly. The tasting room was very busy on Saturday afternoon with many large parties tasting. The tasting room is huge with more of a gift shop atmosphere than anything. Things to look at while you sip. I visited Foley this past Saturday on a wine tasting tour. While the wine was good, there wasn't much variety. We tried three different versions of Pinot Noir which after a full day of tastings, all seemed to taste the same. I really love Pinot so I wasn't terribly upset, but part of the appeal of wine tasting is being able to try things you may not normally buy. That said, the Pinot was great! A little pricey, but that is too be expected at a Santa Ynez winery. The main trouble I had with Foley, is the staff. The lady that served us was not friendly, seemed annoyed and was overall rude. If she isn't a people person, she shouldn't be working in a busy winery. I would have enjoyed my experience much more had the staff been more accommodating. read more

Foley was a great tasting experience! We tasted wine after wine here that we really enjoyed. The tasting room was nice, large, and airy, with room for lots of people around a circular wine bar, and armchairs to hang out in as well. It felt a little corporate here, I think because they were selling so many products in the tasting area, and it was generally an older crowd. But it worked very well. Our first ever visit to Foley Winery was amazing! The grounds were so beautiful and pristine as we drove in. The staff was very friendly from the moment we walked in. Suzann has extensive knowledge about the wines they offered. She was very informative, warm, and inviting, not only to us, but to others she served as well. Foley has a wide array of tasty Chardonnays and Pinot Noir. Overall, a great place to visit! It was a perfect way to end a lunch date. I highly recommend! read more

My favorite Pinot is here. I love the 2 sisters brand. Pricey but worth it too me. I also am not typically a white wine gal, but I love their steel aged Chardonnay and they have a oak aged one that is so buttery. The grounds are lovely and the tasting room open with lots of seating. We always have wonderful customer service. I love the wine here. read more

Visited Foley for the second time last weekend. We are a new wine club member so came by to pick up our wine and do a little tasting. Veronica in the tasting room was doing the pouring for us. We found a table in the middle of the room away from the tasting counter. I expected to go to the counter each time for the next tasting. I did not move from the chair. As busy as it was in there she kept track of us and shortly after one tasting was gone here she came with the next one. What a great asset to have such a positive nice person representing the winery. Foley has an outstanding set of Pinot Noir's. Stay away from their whites, as they are just OK and over priced. If possible, try some of their reserve tasting. They have some really fantastic reserve Pinot's that don't make it to the regular tasting menu. The tasting room is very nice and their estate is also nice. Just make sure you go there early or late, because there are lots of crowds that go there. read more

If you like whites and don't mind paying for them, this might be the place for you. Definitely my least favorite of the foley family properties in the area, it feels a lot more pretentious. The pours are a little stingy and the people are not as friendly. Plus it's a little out of the way. Not a huge fan. read more

When you first walk into a winery filled with people, including a bachelorette party, it evokes the type of primal fear that makes you want to run screaming in the opposite direction. With that said, it's somewhat surprising that this horse stable turned winery was our favorite of the day. The high quality of wine they were pouring was helpful in ensuring that we would not be leaving empty-handed. A fun vibe, numerous seating areas, spacious tasting floor, non-overwhelming yet sufficient gift area, and friendly, informative flight attendants all aided in this very pleasant experience. They have 460 acres of vines and are one of the few wineries thats uses only estate fruit to create their delicious wines. Although their primary focus seems to be Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, our group favorite was the 2005 Rancho Santa Rosa Syrah. Foley has a new renowned winemaker, Kris Curran (2005 Winemaker of the Year by the San Francisco Chronicle for her work with Sea Smoke Cellars and currently producing her own wine under the label, Curran). This winery has many options, all of them good ones. The Stainless steel Chardonnay was so good, and the price was super, but most of the other chardonnays were richer, and had been aged in oak, tasty, but pricey. The favorite of the day was the 2013 Pinot from the Sta Rita Hills, fruit, smoke, and long finish...great qualities of a Pinot Noir. Veronica provided me with some great local information, and she was really genuine in her enthusiasm for the wines. I will return when in the area. The grounds and tasting groom are beautiful. The wines were ok but nothing spectacular (that was already allocated to Clos Pepe, again more on that later.) Its been a couple of weeks since our visit ... and what I have discovered is that this visit didn't stand out as anything out of the ordinary. Good Pinots and Chardonnays in a fairly new tasting room with nice views of the vineyards and surrounding hills. In my opinion, the best Pinot's from Central Coast are found west of the 101 in the Sta Rita Hills - which is where Foley is located and all of their estate wines come from. They lose a star for not waiving the $10 - $20 tasting fee when purchasing bottles (and their wines are not cheap). read more

Our favorite place to go for Chardonnays. They have one that will appeal to everyone's taste and certainly allow you to experience the craft that is winemaking as you work your way through the flights with the friendly server explaining exactly why the wine you are enjoying tastes different from the Chardonnay you just finished. Their wine club is a great deal if for no other reason than the family of wineries you get with it including Firestone in Foxen Canyon. read more

i hate to be a hater, and really i don't hate this place. we stopped here on the way to another winery after visiting sanford winery (which was the best winery on our two day santa ynez, lompoc, los olivos wine tour) and it was kind of a waste. Nice grounds, the wine itself however, was not very good. I did buy a bottle of chardonnay out of pity not because i was in love with it. i blame sanford for making this place look bad. it just doesn't compare in terms of wine and ambiance. i'm sure the people that work here are nice people and all but they aren't as friendly or as knowledgeable as they are at sanford. if there weren't so many other outstanding wineries in the area this place would be ok but there are just better choices. read more

Not a bad experience over all. The wines turned out to be pretty good. I picked up a chard and like the pinot but they were priced a bit high. Amazing views abound and we took some nice pictures. The tasting room was a bit to party vibe at the time we were there and serious tasters may be a bit turned off. The Foley group has gotten pretty large (see Firestone and Lincourt) and the Foley label seems to be the strongest, still It won't crack my top 10 list in the area. read more

This place has a very reasonable tasting fee (I think $5), considering you get to keep your glass and it's actually Riedel. The wine was good, and we did end up buying one of the very nice chardonnays we tasted. However, the service was pretty awful. They weren't super-busy, but we were ignored for several minutes in between tastings, and a different person poured each time. Kinda weird, and not great if you want to ask questions or get more information. read more

Joined Firestone Wine Club a few years ago making us a part of the Foley Family. Wasn't impressed by our first visit to Foley... But have fallen in love with their Chardonnays and Pinots at Foley. Their special events ( Chardonnay spring and Pinots fall) have have introduced us to many more than what u ordinarily taste in the vineyard taste room. (Even met Leslie Mead Renaud the winemaker as she shared a barrel sampling of the 2012 chardonnay. )Chardonnays ranged from the 2011 steel to the 2010 barrel aged varieties. All were different yet excellent. And their Pinots...oh my! From the more simple Santa Rita Hills to the more complex and smooth Two sisters, I enjoy them all. If you go for their highest end pinot noir on the tasting lineup, you'll finally come to a fairly decent bottle of wine. I'm not really too fond of the rest of their wines. Here's hoping that Kris Curran, who's become the new winemaker, will inject some new life into Foley. She made a star out of Seasmoke wine. The wine didn't do anything for me and the wine pourer we had was flat with no personality and the tasting room as nice as it is did not keep up engaged, so we had our 5 tastes and walked out, no experience which led to no sale which defeats their whole purpose. Come on pourers give us some personality, sell me on the wine and we can leave with a case! The grounds are truly beautiful and so are the structures. The wine was about a 6 out of 10 for me. read more

I actually hate to write this review, but had such a bad experience here yesterday when visiting :(, and left feeling so disappointed. I have been a Foley wine club member for years and always stop in at the winery when I am in the area. I have been here many times and have had good experiences, but yesterday was was completely different. We walked in and no one greeted us. Most of the counter space at the two bar areas were full...not crazy busy in there though...so we just sort of stood back and waited for someone to finish up. Finally, about five or so minutes after standing there, one the servers (a female) yelled "what can we do for you?" from behind the bar (sort of through all the people). I told her I was a wine club member and we wanted to do a tasting. She gestured for us to go way over in the corner of the bar area and she actually looked annoyed while doing this. Needless to say, not a great greeting. We stood over in the corner for a while and no one helped us. Finally a guy came out of the back area, and that first server who put us over there pointed him to us. Some sort of exchange took place between him and her (didn't look positive)...not sure if it was break time or what was going on. All I can say is that the male server was VERY inattentive and was actually quite unfriendly and rude. I have no idea what was going on, but we did our tasting and then left, and, of course, no one said goodbye or anything else to us as we left. I always leave here buying wine, but not this time. Just a really disappointing experience. read more

If you just want to visit a winery for the views, go for it. If you just want wines that are pleasing to the palate immediately, you'll find one or two. But if you know anything about wines, this is not your place. Head to Melville or Clos Pepe instead, if they're open. Servers in this tasting room have no passion for wine and I wouldn't either if I had to serve there. read more

If you go for Santa Rita Hills Pinot, and god knows there a lot of you who do (hence the price of this stuff), Foley is a solid stop. The tasting room feels a bit corporate (I tend to go for charming and quirky) but the pours were generous and reasonably priced and the Pinot (which is all I tried) was very good. I am more of a Rhone guy when it comes to Central Coast wines but I like to think I can still separate the Pinot wheat from the Pinot chaff and this was the good stuff, albeit too pricey for me to stock up on.
