The staff running the stand were welcoming and excited to be there. They do provide bags but it's always good to bring reusable ones from home. I brought the toddler nephews who weren't much help picking. But the staff treated them like they were their own family. The kids played and I picked. It was a nice afternoon activity with a built in fresh snack. The grounds were gorgeous and extremely well maintained. Gorgeous flowers everywhere. Bonus: The owners never use pesticides on the berries. The Buckets are sanitized after each use and the staff show you the best picking areas when you arrive. We will definitely be back.

This is Des Moines, Washington and not Iowa. This Des Moines is part of the Seattle metro area. This market we really just stumbled across and didn't plan it. So that was a nice perk! We really only intended to explore the downtown area and the pier that we spotted. This market is cute. I think we like the ones in Tacoma a bit better as it is a bit small but they had a lot of food items from vendors that we haven't seen in Tacoma. From here we spotted some Portuguese tarts and since this is the eve that I am writing this review before we go to Spain and Portugal I figured I'd add this review before we depart tomorrow. We had this trip on the horizon and knew to try them here so we could compare them once we got to Portugal. The tarts were great and then we got some handheld flat bread pizza that was excellent from another vendor! We got cookies as well and are still working on them! So despite this was a smaller market we bought plenty! We'd love to come back sometime whenever we can make it happen!

I grew up in a place where berries didn't grow wild, but things like avocados and oranges were in abundance. Now that I have discovered this pick-your-own berries and subscription farm, though, all of this has changed. Today was my second visit to the delightfully lush Lazy River Farm down south, in Kent. Lazy River Farm is right now teeming with raspberries and blueberries that you can pick for $1.50 per pound. This is about one-fourth the price I pay for frozen berries at Whole Foods. But please don't make me calculate the cost of my gas in this equation since I am so happy thinking about how I am fiscally savvy to be picking my own. Plus, it's really, really fun! Visit Lazy River Farm on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays from 9-5. And be sure to follow all the instructions on the posted signs because these farmers are serious about their wonderful berries.

My goal was…read moreto check out most of the county's markets this summer, but I got a late start and some locations I ruled out completely based on the time and day or the market. Some neighborhoods are just problematic to navigate. I don't know if this was a bad week to attend or we arrived to early, but we had a couple issues that made the visit unpleasant. My first issue was selection. At every other market we visited, there were plenty of fruit, vegetable and juice stands, as well as fresh breads and other artisanal crafts. Here, half of those options were not available and the ones that were, were in limited supply. Now, most markets limit themselves to about 4 hours with the exception of the weekend markets, but this was an all day market. We arrived about 30 minutes after open short of the food vendors that were still setting up or cooking, I didn't see anyone else setting up or spaces reserved for them. My final knock. Every other market we've visited or looked into had fully functional websites that listed participating vendors and links to their websites if they have one. This market has a link via the city website that list only the time and date of the market with information on how to register to sell. It took some effort to get here and ultimately ended up being a waste of time, energy and effort. Completely disappointed.
