Camarones Mosquito
Jeila F.

Considering that it was Valentine's Day, my experience at Fonda was nothing short of excellent. The seating was a bit more tight, but that's expected at any location in Park Slope. We had reservations for 9:30 and were immediately sat down after they rearranged the table a bit. We were greeted by our waitress. We loved the drinks. Just the right amount of liquor and it was served to us quickly. I ordered the corn soup and guacamole for appetizer. The guac was soo fresh and all the ingredients were delicious. On the side of my meal, I also order platanos with the queso. The camarones mosquito was soo good and the flavors popped. We were very happy with our experience here!

My friend and I went for a late lunch today. The food was excellent! My friend ordered the salad with avocado and spicy carrots. It looked great and was delicious. We shared some plantains and one of the specials: mini latkes. Loved them! I also had the soup special (a creamy corn). Neither of us is vegetarian but we were really impressed with how flavourful everything was. The only issue was with the service. It wasn't busy, but took a while for anyone to come back after our drinks came. And I had to make three attempts to get the attention of the waitress when we wanted to get dessert. The flan was beautifully caramelized and a nice size for the two of us to share. That was the only photo we thought to take.

I do have to say while it's been one of my favorite places to bring friends to it's changed from the past six years. I came in this past week for dinner and service is still very friendly, typical Mexican hospitality, some of the greatest margaritas I've had in New York. But food wise as with everywhere else's shrinkflation hit prices went up and you get less I ordered the steak plate this time you had to pay extra for rice and beans which were included in it before no more free tortillas either. That's one crappy part other than that food is still very good.

Love their hibiscus margarita! The service is nice, always a nice time when I come there!

Watermelon & classic margaritas. Delicious!

We stopped in here for a quick drink while wondering around the neighborhood. It was Happy Hour so the place was fairly packed, but we managed to grab seats at the bar. (Happy Hour is available at the bar only.) The bartender was friendly and attentive. Mom & I got a Watermelon Margarita and my sister a classic with Mezcal ($11). The Watermelon Margarita ($12) was delicious and refreshing. I could taste the fresh watermelon. My sister enjoyed the classic margarita. The place is quaint with festive décor. The boozy brunch is a great deal. For $37.50 you get an entrée and 3 cocktails. I will check it out next time for sure!

Fonda always hits the spot, no matter the location. This location has very cute decor. I came on a date with my boyfriend on a Saturday night and we were sat right away.

Happy hour margarita

Immaculate happy hour - $11-$12 margaritas . Strawberry mango and classic mezcal were great. The strawberry flavor is my favorite. Quesadilla was great happy hour special . We also had the carne asada which was great flavor. Would definitely come back again to try their food. Happy hour is at the bar only.

Went for brunch today, food was great! My coworker had an omelette which lacked a bit of seasoning but otherwise everything was good, mimosas were good as well!

A nice gorgeous evening dining in the Park Slope section of Brooklyn. A huge full moon added to the scenario. Mexican-American cuisine. Check out their menu. Good company and good victuals. Must make a reservation. It's always crowded there. Dining is inside, out front or outside rear where we were. Nice

Still a winner in my book. I first discovered Fonda about 9 years ago and I've been back a couple times since. On this latest visit, it's restaurant week and decide to take bae to dinner. Full disclosure, I wasn't clear about what their restaurant week menu was offering. It wasn't on the site. Going in to the visit I was clear about what I wanted him to experience but hadn't really thought past the guac and chips for myself and of course I knew what I wanted to drink. I had a hibiscus margarita that wasn't really giving what it was supposed to and for the record, it was really sorrel. I am not sure why folks confuse the two- they are two distinctively different plants with very different flavors. Bae had a double shot of Don Julio with pineapple juice. Meh! We arrived at 6:45 and chose to sit in the back. It was elbow to elbow but still cozy and private enough to create a vibe. We dive into the guac- divine. He got the skirt steak and I ordered the salmon. Both came with a tiny side of rice, beans and we ordered the street corn. There was more than enough sides to go around and leave for leftovers. The skirt steak was smothered with a sauce that brandished mushrooms - which he doesn't usually like but devoured. The salmon was in a rich paste like tomato sauce but tasted very delectable. It was crispy on the bottom, moist in the middle chock full of flavor. To close out the experience we ordered both the flan and tres leches. Bay-bee, let me tell you about the coffee flavor they added to the flan that made it taste like an aphrodisiac. Exceptional.

Guacamole

I was in the mood for tacos and my friend said I had to try the guacamole at Fonda. We sat outside as it was warm with a cool breeze and we had a dog. Their outside seating had air conditioning and fans. I was very impressed. We asked for them to turn it off as it wasn't needed. They happily obliged. We got the small guacamole. My friend said we should do a large. But I figured we were getting so many things and didn't want to waste. It came with chips, tortillas, salsa and you could choose the spice level of the guac. The portion was much smaller than I thought and given the amount of chips and additional included tortillas it wasn't enough guacamole. Not to mention $16 and they served it in a dish with crevices so you lose about 10% of your guac. It was however the best guacamole I ever had. Even better than the table side guacamole I had in Mexico. I know it's made to order. You can taste every ingredient and it was perfectly balanced. I don't know where they get their avocados from. Of course we got another small, should've listened to my friend in the first place. We preferred the spicy over the medium but both were good. We ordered two sides of chicharron. They were $3 each and a pretty small portion. But another exceptional item. Crispy not greasy and still warm when brought to the table. I wish they sold them in a larger portion. We all opted for taquitos. Two of us got carne asada and my friend who recommended the spot got Al pastor. The carne asada was very disappointing. The guacamole and chicharrones left me with great expectations. This fell flat. Most of the steak was chewy, not tender and bland. I couldn't believe it. I asked for a side of salsa verde. It was honestly the nastiest salsa verde I ever had. It was sour and salty. No heat whatsoever and it definitely didn't taste like the charred the vegetables as is customary when making salsa verde. My friend's Al pastor was better in terms of flavor and texture but I don't like pineapple with savory. If I'm getting pork tacos it's has to be carnitas. Which they offer carnitas on the menu but not in taco form which was baffling to me. The plantains came covered in cream and queso Fresca both bland and unnecessary additions. I scraped it off. The plantain themselves were ripe and yummy. The drinks were divine. We all tried the popular Rosalita which is the hibiscus margarita. You have the option of frozen or on the rocks for a $1 more. It comes with a hibiscus rim. But I opted for a tajin rim. It was well balanced and the hibiscus flavor really shines. Coupled with the tajin rim adding a little smoky and spiciness. Next I tried the tamarindo and you have the option of subbing the tequila for mezcal. I got the mezcal my friend got it with tequila. It was wayyyy better with the mezcal. The smokiness paired very well with the tamarind and added a depth of flavor. My friend agreed. The tequila version wasn't as nuanced. The Pasilla rim added to the drinks complex flavor profile. My favorite drink we tried. El pepino came with mezcal, lime, orange, cucumber ginger pure and a tajin pasilla rim. Another flavorful, refreshing, multilayered cocktail. The rim was my favorite, the mixture of passilla and tajin hit all 5 basic tastes. Senorita Manguito was good. I love st. Germain and the addition of mango and bubbly component made it fruity, citrusy and strong. For dessert we tried the special mango mouse cake. There was great mango flavor, it was light and not too sweet. I'm a chocolate lover so I got the Morenitas which is a chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream. They had salted Carmel ice cream on the menu so I asked to sub that for the vanilla. They agreed. I'm not a huge brownie lover and wish it would've been chocolate cake instead. It was very rich and decadent and something you would need to share. The creamy dense texture with the creaminess of the ice cream was a little overwhelming. The salted caramel ice cream was delicious and balanced. I probably should've stuck with the vanilla given how intense the brownie was. Pastelito de caramel was caramel cake with whipped cream chocolate and cajeta sauce. It was warm and delicious. Not too sweet with great caramel flavor. The sauces added more layers of flavor. I liked the brownie the least. Our server wasn't as pleasant as I would've liked. She wasn't blatantly rude. Just a little stand offish and seemed like she didn't want to be there. The busboy however was very nice. Always smiling, he even brought our dog some water without being asked. It is very pricey especially for Mexican food and some of the portions. I would dine again.

Guacamole

Quite a small restaurant. We came for brunch and made a reservation. We waited by the door for over 10 minutes before anyone even acknowledged us. We came for brunch and we shared the guacamole which tasted very fresh. It came with chips and blue corn tortillas which was a nice touch. I got the Revueltos Estilo Veracruz. The plantains added a nice sweet touch to an other wise very meh dish - it was all a very soft log of egg and beans and cheese and plantains. The service here was quite slow... for the amount of tables and the amount of servers around, our waiter was never anywhere to be found. The real reason I came was for the drinks! I had three of the rosalitas which were super strong. I feel like three super strong drinks at a brunch is superior to bottomless brunch any day. I just wished the food and service matched the drinks.

While walking down Hoyt Street in downtown Brooklyn I saw the Taïm logo out of the corner of my eye and I knew I had to check it out. This location is located at the base of a new(ish) residential building and I found myself thinking about how great it would be to have a Taïm right downstairs from where I lived! The interior is an open space with bright colors and light wood decor that is comforting and welcoming at the same time. To the right is a small counter at the window and there are seats to the left. Further on towards the right is a counter where you order via a screen. Near that is the "pick up" shelf for online orders. The counter and kitchen are towards the back. Overall it is a nice set up. Of course, the question one asks when visiting a franchise location is: is the food as good as I remember from the original? I am happy to report it IS! Here's what I had: Green Falafel This is the traditional falafel that first had me fall in love with Taïm. It is made to order so it is fresh. The outside is nice and crisp while the inside is still soft (but not chewy). The flavor is on point thanks to some fantastic seasoning. Add in their Tahini and Whipped Garlic and it's a wonderful dish. Harissa Falafel As you'd expect, this is basically their regular falafel with some spicy harissa seasoning added in. There is a nice bite this adds to their already awesome flavor. Pita with Hummus The pita bread in this combo is topped with Za'atar seasoning, giving it an extra savory flavor. The hummus is not plain, instead it is also seasoned giving it some nice flavor. Now, it does not beat the likes of Hummus Kitchen or Hummus Place, but for fast casual it is very good! The pita bread was soft and chewy with fantastic flavor. A perfect vehicle to deliver Hummus! I was very happy to find this location and will definitely visit again.

I said there was plastic in my food, and I couldn't eat it and I wanted a full refund. She went on to tell me that their food is wrapped in plastic and it's possible it got in the food. She then held the plastic top to the container my meal was served in and said "well, this is plastic" implying that there was no difference between something being served IN plastic and plastic being MIXED IN my food. It's concerning a manager of a food establishment would be so flippant about patrons ingesting foreign objects. I was honestly so shocked by her behavior that I said she was crazy to suggest that and walked out with no refund at all. I would honestly stay away from here if you care about your safety and well being.
