Chef Patrick White traveled to Kiawah Island last night and prepared dinner for eight of us to celebrate one of our's 60th birthday. The meal was phenomenal! I had steak with mashed potatoes, zucchini, and a salad (with buttermilk battered fried chicken) that was like a meal unto itself. The presentation was excellent, the conversation (with Chef Patrick) was both entertaining and educational, and the experience was, not only very fun, but an incredible value. When I first learned about Food Fire + Knives on Instagram, I knew I had to keep it in mind for the right occasion. My brother and sister-in-law recently purchased a new home and I thought this would be a great housewarming experience -- and it truly was! We picked a date that worked for all of us (my husband, too!) and scheduled with FF+K through their website. The process to book is insanely easy. First, you check if your date is available. Next, you select how many people, which courses you'd like (minimum of an entree, you can then add salad, soup, appetizer and dessert). We chose to go with 3 courses, an appetizer, entree and dessert. I let my brother and sister-in-law choose the menu and we went with the Pork Belly Bao Buns for the appetizer which were the perfect balance of sweet, savory and delicious. The buns were so fluffy and everything just tasted perfect; Chef Michael mentioned he puts a southern BBQ spin on them and the flavors worked perfectly. Next we moved on to the Surf and Turf entree which included a filet over mashed potatoes and paired with a warm lobster and vegetable hash. Again, everything was cooked to a tee and the quality of ingredients was exceptional. We finished off with my brother's dessert request: the cereal milk ice creams. A cool concept, we were able to sample the Cocoa Puffs, Cinnamon Toast Crunch and Fruity Pebbles flavors -- this was a really fun way to end the meal. Along with Chef Michael, we also had Chef Drew and Liz and everyone was friendly and engaging. On top of preparing and serving the food, they also took care of all dishes and cleaned the area they used. They are food ninjas -- leave you full and don't leave a trace! We chose the fried green tomatoes and fried chicken prepared by Chef Ed and he brought along an assistant, Chef Jesse. Both Chefs were fantastic! I truly can't say enough good things about them. The food came out absolutely amazing and they left our kitchen cleaner than when they arrived. The company as a whole also made booking and planning very easy. I was able to check availability, choose my menu, add courses, and pay the invoice online in advance. When I had some questions a few weeks before the event, Michael returned my call within a few hours of receiving in. Soon after Chef Laura arrived wonderful aromas were wafting from the kitchen as she prepared a Greek-themed dinner for our family gathering. The delicious courses began with flaming saganaki, a huge hit with the entire family. Next came lamb wrapped in grape leaves, rice, pitas, tomato salads, fantastic tzatziki sauce. Desserts of baklava and apple cobbler topped off the evening. Chef Laura arrived on time, explained each dish, was very courteous and left the kitchen cleaned and dishes washed. We rented a house in Isle Of Palms over the Fourth of July weekend and Food, Fire, and Knives was recommended to us by the property management company. I initially reached out to them through their website and was immediately contacted by Mike the owner. We immediately clicked and I really liked his energy, professionalism and spirit behind his cooking. We exchanged emails, texts and calls in the two months leading up to our arrival. Mike was always punctual, available, and creative in the menus he suggested. He was also very attentive to various food requests including allergies or vegetarian options some in our party had requested. Mike provided three very well thought out and creative menus that he emailed to me and I was able to share with my family. We were all very excited for the three dinners we planned at our house on the beach. Mike and his very talented and friendly team completely knocked it out of the park for all three dinners. All of the dinners including various appetizers, salads, entrées and desserts used only the finest ingredients and were plated as if you were in a five-star restaurant. Mike was extremely generous with the portions and also packaged whatever leftovers for us to enjoy the next day. We have four young children so Mike also was able to customize food specific for them. All of the chefs were very, very friendly and we all appreciated Mike explaining what was in each dish and the way in which it was prepared. Everything Mike and I discussed for the menu came to reality and it all tasted absolutely delicious. They always left the kitchen looking much better than when they came with all of the dishes cleaned and put away.
