I have been doing business at this Food King location for more than 20 years. I visit this store twice a week consistently. I purchased some plumbing parts that I didnt need and couldnt find the receipt for. I decided to try it and see if they would do store credit. A manager was called to the register named NATHAN. I was so impressed by this young mans character and skill in the handling of this issue that I had to write this. He stated in the exact words: "Let me show this to my manager but I can tell you that they think its important to keep good customers and Ive seen you here before." He went into the office and came back and we matched my bank transactions to the receipts he pulled from the days. He stated that the numbers had to match for bookkeeping reasons! NATHAN was a person that was TRULY working on behalf of his employer using skills and reasoning that matched exactly what was needed to follow policy and retain customers at the same time. This is a rare and exceptional combination of skill. I havent been more impressed in a very long time. Nathan is a jewel! I am an experienced patron and critic and will keep Nathan in mind when training my own future staff. Nathan/Food King Management reading this.. One more big favor.. Please reorder the Blue Bell FRENCH Vanilla Ice cream. I havent seen it on your shelves in a year but I look for it every trip. When I see it it makes me very happy and I have told some fellow ice cream professionals to check for it only at this location. read more

I've been purchasing firewood at Food King, Lubbock, on Slide Rd, for the past 5yrs. I purchased my last cord of wood, Dec 6,2024. The prices/taxes are ridiculous for a small size. Within two minutes of entering the store, we were greeted by a very friendly employee named Sarah who immediately helped me find a light bulb that I was looking for. We then walked around looking for another item and ran into her again, at which point she asked if she could help us find something else. I told her what I needed, and she immediately took us to it. It's sad that in some stores customer service has gone downhill so much that employees will walk right over you and not say a word to you. This is a service review. I wanted to do a simple exchange. We gave Xavier our items and receipt but didn't have the new items ready. So I stepped aside while my mom went to get the new items wanted, meanwhile Xavier set our items aside (he should still have our receipt). Xavier completed two transactions in this time so I imagine he may have lost track of our receipt. The exchange is going well just needed the card used to put the credit back, then all of a sudden the receipt isn't the correct receipt. Well where did it go? Bottom line is we could not do the exchange because Xavier is incompetent and should not be in customer service industry if he's going to be so gloomy. "Well you can just get out" is the line he told me when I stated that he wasn't exactly being attentive and may have lost it. read more

This is about the Tech Terrace Food King. So sick of paying premium prices for "bargain" food and GARBAGE customer service ! Today my cashier , an older "lady" with gray hair, just sighed the whole time and tossed MY food around , slamming it down, acting like I was just bothering her for doing her job! She then just ignored me when I gave her a "thank you" , which she didn't even deserve. So sick of being treated this way, when I've always been nothing but polite and respectful to those people at that store, for many years. We use to shop here alot but the staff mainly the cashier's are so rude and unfriendly..It makes you not wanna come back..No hello they just scan and you pay them they give you a receipt with a blank stare..Would rather pay higher prices where there is better customer service..At least pretend you know how to be polite! Doesn't matter which food king you go to because they all suck. There's never enough of what you need, shelves look wiped out like Walmart, customer service gets worse and worse, the floors are always dirty and the produce always looks terrible. Then a few days ago I wanted to bbq. Thought I'd got to a local food king and get some chicken leg quarters. I just wanted 2 and they tell me they're out. I see the 10 lb bag and suggested they can open that up to sell me the 2 I need and the rest can be sold individually for more profit on there own behalf. Instead I was told no. If you ever said "I need to run by the store and grab bread, milk and a weed eater," then Food King may be your place. Looking for a unique format and new gimmick in the low price grocery store market? If so, Food King may be your answer. Have you ever seen carpet in a grocery store? Right here. Where was this carpet at back in the days when I used to ride underneath the basket and dive out, wheels rolling, for a pack of Double Stuff Oreos? Back in the day meaning circa 2014. When I think of a low price grocery store, I typically think of an often times older, almost always stale and not always the cleanest of environment. Food King is quite the opposite in the fact that it's all new inside, clean, bright and colorful. The endless rows of bins haphazardly filled with food, as seen in my picture, are new to me. I guess this concept plays into the wholesale and discount theme. This store does not seem like it is the easiest to find things or well suited for a quick trip despite my comment about a stop for bread and a weed eater. However, if you're looking to do an aisle by aisle major stock up while maintaining price consciousness, then this may be a good bet. If you happen to need any home goods or hardware type items, like say the aforementioned weed eater, they have a decent sized hardware and home good section on the north end of the store. The gimmick here is "cost plus 10% fee" explained by Food King as the cost to get the item onto the shelf plus the fee added a checkout. Given that grocery stores are known for their notoriously low margins and required high volume, I'm not sure "10%" sounds revolutionary. The overall prices here do however appear to be very reasonable in addition to a lot of heavily discounted sale offerings. read more

I really liked Food King when it first opened. The prices were reasonable and sometimes pretty low. But now i was really disappointed today. I had 95 dollars and was trying to budget. But instead i walked out with very little food and a 8.95 surcharge. The prices were high and still got charged another 10% surcharge on my food. Sadly I had to leave half of my groceries behind... Food King is great for sales! Many times the sales price beats their competitor's prices, even with the fee. Their meat selection is pretty wide and I haven't had any issues with meat not being good. Produce is my main reason for three stars. It is very much hit or miss. I have bought avocados that were molded inside...Super gross!!! Also some packaged peppers that were leaking water from the mister (note to self...never assume) yeah...it was a pepper rotted to liquid form. That was a huge waste!! And also SUPER GROSS! But there have been very fresh onions and potatoes. To sum it up, great for sales and deals, but buyer use caution with the fruits y veg...or do what I do and go elsewhere for produce! read more

I am a shopper for a grocery delivery service. I was pinged with an order tonight from the Food King on Slide Rd. I shopped the items and went into checkout. My card kept getting declined. I asked the cashier to suspend the transaction so I could call the company and see why the card was declining. She was adamant on running it through 'one more time'. She ran it a total of 4 times. Even after I told her it wouldn't matter how many times it was ran. I kept asking her to suspend the transaction and she said they couldn't do that at that store. She cancelled out the whole order. I pulled to the side of her register and called the company I was working for. They wanted to compare the prices from what they had on their end against the store prices to find the discrepancy. We did that as she rang everything back up. So, for some reason the initial transaction was ran for a whole $40 more than the second transaction. I asked her why and she said I must've put some items back.. I never left her register folks.. It was a customers order, why would I undo my own work in shopping it. She seriously screwed my shopping time with this b.s. also. I don't know why the extra $40 but that was the only reason the card was declined. All that hassle for something that was snuck onto the grocery total. read more

This is a cautionary tale of a grocery store which is dangerously close to my house & therefore have revisited one too many times. The store itself is clean which is an isolated positive. The parking lot is micro tiny & often there is not a space in the lot to park. Every aisle is cinched in so tight that only one customer with a basket may comfortably mosey down the aisle. Unfortunately, that is never the case & people are constantly backing up or inadvertently colliding with another client while on cell phone, checking shopping list etc... Food selection is just not there; this is a nice neighborhood with a grocery with such a meager selection, I would forewarn not to come in with hopes to whip up a baked Ziti or tiramisu.. Negative, ghost rider!!! The biggest disappointment was the lack of service! You try to get assist finding an item & there is no one to assist & when you do find help; they cannot direct to correct locale of product as they do not know. The check out process is a disaster... Lines extend out in a lengthy boa constrictor fashion..... Staff at checkout are impolite & do not even force the likeness of a smile & exude a sense of frustration with each customer inconvenience. I feel customers follow suit as the patron behind me slammed her basket into mine & told her husband I needed to move my basket out of the way... I like shopping here they have great prices and hardware items which i like because im always doing and making something and passing by the the garden section reminds me of anything i might of forgot so its great i would rate a 5 but i recently had a bad encounter with one of the workers from there he was literally the rudes guy i have delt with and as someone who used to work in a grocery store as crew leader we always made sure the customers had help and that they where greeted always but not here seems like the workers dont have any consequences if they talk back or give you dirty looks or if all they do is walk around talking which is what this specific individual did i was shopping and was heading down the isle where they have the noodles and i said excuse me to one of the workers because i was attempting to go across the other isle but he had half of it blocked so when i said that he just looked at me while he kept on talking to one of his buddies or worker and completely ignored me so i went through since there was some space to pass but i said excuse me so he could move the supplies so i wouldn't knock anything down so since he ignored me i went through and moved it my self and as i did that once i passed him he lifted the box and slammed it on the floor behind me as i walked again i don't know why he did so but he did after that he was seen just walking around with one of the workers off there shift even one of the cashiers made a remark on how lazy he was so i put a complaint and till this day i have been ignored and he continues to work there doing nothing honestly if it where up to me he would not have a job especially with the way he is but im sure he has done it to multiple people and sooner or later he will pay for the consequences as well as time theft which is what he is doing every time he decides to walk around talking with his coworkers or friends read more

This store is a disaster. Based on what I see it doesn't appear this store (26 & Boston) has a manager. The produce section is well maintained but poorly stocked. Several weeks ago, I went in to buy a sweet potato, and they only had one tiny one. Most of the time you can't find parsley. Shop at the wrong time of the week, and you aren't likely to find what you are looking for. Tonight I went shopping, and they had a huge bin of Wolf Brand Chili. Some of the cans were dented. (Lubbock Health Code violation). I need a dozen eggs. I went through 6 cartons of eggs before I found one without broken eggs. At the busiest times of day there are never enough checkers and long lines. There are 4 checkout lines, and typically only two check outs are open. There seems to be a lot of turnover in the workers. This store seems to be the training area for new employees. Many of the employees are rude. All of this reflects back on how this store is being poorly managed. I notice that the number of shoppers continues to decline. read more

FOOD KING IS HOLDING $100 ON MY BANK ACCOUNT. I stopped Saturday morning, December 22, 8:30am, at the Food King Gas on 19th Street in Lubbock, Texas to just get enough gas to be sure I would not run low. I did not have cash with me so I used my debit card for $5.00 of gas. When I got home and checked my bank account later than day I found they had charged the $5.00 gas PLUS PUT A HOLD OF $100 ON MY ACCOUNT. I talked to the manager and she was very dismissive and said it should drop off in 24 hours. It has now been two days and the $100 is still on my account. My only income is social security so I will not have a deposit until January. I keep my account carefully all the time and schedule all my payments so I know they are covered. However, now I have two payments that will be presented for payment and I do not have money in my account to cover them. I will not use FOOD KING for gas again, and may not use the grocery store since the manager was not at all helpful and did not care. read more

They Advertised a sale on NY strip steaks in their circular that supposed to last through Tuesday. I show up on Saturday morning and they claim to be out of the steaks already. However, they conveniently had plenty of those same steaks packaged individually for twice the price. When I spoke to the meat manager he was rude and explained they "made more money" on the steaks that way. Clearly false advertising designed to entice people to drive all the way tor their store and then not sell the product for the advertised price because they chose to package it a different way. read more
