First time in 7 months that she had gone out to eat at a restaurant compared to take out, in her surgery and recovery, staying at her daughter's apartment in the same building. Immaculate dressed in a red and pink jacket/pants outfit complete with baseball cap which never left her head. Walking with a cane, looking like a gust of wind could blow her over. She walks slowly and appeared frail but had the energy to carry on a conversation. Both she and my wife ordered the BDNYC breakfast special: 2 eggs biscuit potatoes meat combination for breakfast while I ordered the pulled pork over sweet potatoes and spinach Marianne sent back her order of eggs over easy to be cooked more as they were not sufficiently hard for her taste. My wife left the sausage for Marianne. My pulled pork had a very thin glaze of barbecue apple glaze covering the pulled pork which added just enough flavor and sweetness to the meat while not overwhelming the flavor of the pork. I knew that Marianne loved sweet potatoes so I left them untouched on my dish for her to take home. Learned later that Marianne had eaten sweet potatoes almost daily during her recovery at the hospital and was overdosed with it. Marianne ended up eating almost her entire breakfast, except for one egg. By the way our Subway Q line was delayed 20 minutes by an unauthorized person on the tracks. Not even that could keep us from reuniting with our long time Yelp friend from New York City.

It was a tasty burger but not Minetta Tavern good. My wife had a choice to make, get the spinach pie appetizer for $17 or the entree version for $27. The extra $10? Got us a salad and I am guessing a larger portion of pie. That's it...for $10 more. I remember when they would provide salad, soup, potatoes, veggies, bread, and even a dessert, for much less. The waiter did bring two pickle spears and tiny cups of cole slaw to be fair. We had water, no dessert or apps, and spent $55 for a meal that should have cost $30, maybe $35. So, you get the extra $20 this visit but you lost future visits, seems like a risky move. This is not the only spot on the neighborhood that has gone off the rails with their menu pricing management and I realize costs around labor, ingredients, utilities, etc have all gone up. Problem is, the customers pocket is only so deep and it's becoming unsustainable to continue to push the majority of the expenses onto your menu for others to subsidize. So, we didn't have a "bad" experience but walked away feeling taken advantage of in what we received for the money. Now my wife is no longer going to push for this spot in the future and we will give others a try.

Great diner in the UES…read more The Mansion has an extensive menu, you'll be able to find what you want. It has all the classics. You don't come to NYC looking for a Michelin starred diner, you come to a NYC for good eats and even greater people. The service is what you'd expect from a busy diner but they're honest and try their best It's playful and loud inside The Mansion, but that's what makes it feel so much better.

While Red Grill is good, it doesn't compare to my favorite Mexican restaurants in Georgia and Florida. (And -- sorry Floridians -- it takes a lot for me to praise much of anything in your state.) I love good Mexican chicken soup. Red Grill's is nothing special. The broth tastes like Swanson's, which doesn't say much. And while there are plenty of vegetables and a generous portion of chicken, the soup falls short of expectations. I doctored mine up with every condiment available, which helped a little. I'm glad I added a last-minute quesadilla to my order. Again, not as good as my favorite -- this time in Virginia -- but decent. T enjoyed Red Grill's carnitas. He said they were fattier than last time, but hey - it's pork. Frozen margaritas were potent and only $8, perhaps because it was happy hour. I have to remember to ask for mine fruitier. What I do like are their chips and salsa. Chips look homemade and the salsa is spicy and chunky. Perhaps this is where we should go for cocktails and appetizers. Proximity to home is a plus.

My parents live in Connecticut. Port Chester is next to CT. Many people from CT drive to Port Chester and get Italian pastries and Portuguese tart from Neri's Bakery.
