A quick six-block walk south from our nearby hotel down York Avenue brought my wife, daughter, and me to the Mansion for breakfast on a Monday at 8 am. The dining room was not too busy at this time. We were warmly welcomed and shown to a large table in the corner. They have just about everything on the breakfast menu. I ordered cinnamon raisin French toast with a side of bacon (limp). They had a special on free coffee and juice with any breakfast entree, so I got pineapple juice. They can fresh-squeeze orange juice if you want that. While waiting for our food to arrive, we people-watched the passersby outside and enjoyed the Sinatra music piped in. We saw a couple of regulars show up, along with a lovely family of four with two young children. There's also a big-screen TV with NY1 news on.. My French toast was huge and delicious. The bacon came out floppy just like I prefer it. The other meals were tasty as well. Everything was excellent, and the service was friendly and prompt. We can't wait to come back again. read more

Came here while visiting the city with some friends who come here very often. They love this place and after coming I see why. The restaurant gave a very mom and pop diner vibe and the owner/manager was so friendly, coming around to chat and make sure everything was good. The menu is extensive and we as a party were able to get breakfast and lunch items which was great for each person's cravings at the time. I ordered the Italian sub and it was packed. Very delicious it hit the spot! I would definitely come back here and would recommend it to anyone in the area looking for a quick and simple breakfast or lunch. Here I am in a studio apartment that's minimally set up, without provisions to do more than boil water. (Trust me; that will change.) So we headed to The Mansion, a local diner -- pre-Starbucks, we called them coffee shops -- for western omelets. $19 each. To be fair, weekdays till 11:00 they throw in coffee and orange juice for free (which is a big savings, particularly in NYC.) I better stop griping about price. Rents in the city are nuts, with costs passed on to consumers. The omelette was delicious, home fries crisp and coffee strong. In business since 1945, The Mansion is popular amongst locals. Came here on a Monday night and the restaurant only had a couple tables taken. We were greeted very quickly, and seated too. We ordered two smash burgers, and one cheeseburger with fries, topped with cheese and gravy. The regular cheeseburger was good, and so where the fries; what truly takes the trophy, are the smash burgers and the fries they came with! The smash burgers were thin, yet, very filling and flavorful, and the wedge fries on the side were just fantastic: they weren't thick wedges, but not too thin either, however, they were incredibly crispy and soft in certain spots at the same time. The place looks like an older diner, which is what it is, and it is actually really nicely decorated for Halloween! The prices are a bit high, in my opinion, especially because I come from Jersey and diner food tends to be a tad bit more affordable. I understand operating costs have definitely gone up over the years but I still found some of the prices here hard to swallow. A Cobb salad for nearly $30? I'm sure it's a very generous size, but that's pricey. We ended up ordering mostly sandwiches, and the prices were better, although the portions were on the smaller size. The staff were very accommodating and it's a family friendly spot so I added a star for this! Ordered: Fresh toast sticks- these were quite good and were coated in crushed cornflakes, which was something different. They came with a sprinkling of blueberries and powdered sugar on top. Sweet and spicy crispy chicken sandwich- the sandwich itself was pretty good and not greasy however, the size was very small. It came with some tasty fries that were seasoned. Breakaway chicken sandwich- this came on a large hero roll and so I thought it was a bigger portion. However, when you open the sandwich you saw that the chicken didn't take up the length of the roll so it was also on the smaller side. On Easter morning, after Mass, went to the diner with five other friends. The management was highly attentive to getting us seated during a very hectic time. Our waitress was kind, courteous, and efficient. The food was excellent. However, when I asked about a dietary concern of our waitress , another waitress, not affiliated with our table, interjected, without any solicitation from me. She proceeded to be unprofessional, inappropriate, and absolutely rude, belligerent, and aggressive. She did not relent. I also spoke with the manager about the dietary concern, and he could not have been more helpful. However, the interfering waitress, who continued to berate me to her coworkers, made the overall experience very unpleasant. As she continued in this manner , I said, am I going to be harassed during my entire meal ? to which she replied "you should've been quite in the first place." No lie ! It's shame for the diner, because I'm in a position ( my job) to share with a large number of people the best places to eat in the neighborhood. Despite the great service and the good food, I cannot recommend the Mansion based on this negative interaction with the waitress. She clearly has much to learn about customer service. A bit on the pricey side of UES, as you can see the omelette wasn't that big and I think there was a miscommunication with our order of the pancakes, we wanted the filled cream pancakes but they ended up giving us a blueberries pancakes with pieces of strawberries. Looks pretty sad to be honest and it's because we saw pictures of other yelpers. Guess it's not the same anymore, so with that, giving them 3 stars. Strategically it's located close to Carl, Schultz Park, making it a common location for families in the area - and a great spot to go for a quick stroll after you're done eating. There is plenty of outdoor and indoor seating, and the indoor almost feels like a classic bustling diner with multiple TVs and even a bar. Well staffed and with a huge menu, you won't struggle finding exactly what you want. However, the food isn't the best. Portion sizes are decent and their home-cooked potatoes are a staple item for me, but the omelettes aren't big and there isn't much flare to each dish. The 5 stars are mostly bc Alex, our waitstaff was so lovely and thoughtful and kind. She thought of the smallest details for us and asked if we needed anything several times. It's always about the feed people and not just the food. We had a veggie omelette with sourdough toast and has browns. The veggie omelette was good, but not fluffy. Sourdough Toast was okay. The hashbrowns were good with lots of crunchy areas which I love There is plenty of outdoor and indoor seating and there are two sections for indoor seating. There is also a bathroom that you walk up about four steps up. The first level and outdoor seating is totally accessible for wheelchairs, which is great and they even have two tables that accommodate wheelchairs (see pic). This is your typical diner. A huge plastic menu which you will never have an issue finding anything to eat. The service is nothing to complain about. And like most diners the food is just okay. Two of my kids had breakfast for dinner: a Nutella and banana French toast, chocolate chip pancakes, and the third opted for Mac and cheese. No children's portions but they did serve the kids waters in plastic cups with a top and straw so no spills. Service was quick and pleasant and the food arrived speedily. As requested they served the children first. Clean bathrooms ( both bathrooms were gender neutral). Met my aunt for lunch with my kids and ordered french onion soup, mozzarella sticks and a root beer. I was not too hungry since I had a big bagel for breakfast. My kids ordered a frittata with honey fries which they shared since it was a big portion. My aunt ordered the matzah ball soup. My French onion soup was delicious and super cheesy. I could not wait for it to cool down because I wanted to make sure I got the oozy cheese melting in my mouth. The broth and onions were not overbearing flavored which was fine for me since sometimes it can be too salty. Ordered the Irish breakfast and the eggs with homemade corn beef hash. They were both delicious. I love corn beef hash, especially the homemade kind that you can tell is fresh. This place has it! The cole slaw is very finely chopped. The split pea soup was very smooth and had no ham or anything else in it, which is great. I have written several reviews of The Mansion over the years. I no longer set foot in the place. The follow comments may well not fall within Yelp's guidelines. Since the first Covid outbreak, The Mansion has taken to playing loud music on a regular basis, with no apparent regard for its neighbors. Tonight, Thursday October 31, 2024, they went way too far. I have had the dubious honor of living across the street from the place for over 20 years. At approximately 6 PM on the date noted above, I began hearing music so outrageously loud, even with the windows shut, that I was convinced that it was coming from a vehicle stopped nearby. I'm talking about the music one hears from an auto equipped with speakers suited to a club-type venue, being played at full volume with the bass set at 11. It was coming from a live band performing at, guess where, The Mansion. I called the diner and spoke to a Manager. The volume was lowered, though the band played on for at least an hour and a half, still loud enough to be an annoyance. The street on which I live was for many years one of the very quietest in the area. Mansion, you have some 'cojones' to dignify yourself with that name, shame on you! read more

I discovered this place on DoorDash some time last year when I was looking to fill a burger craving while living in UES. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the burger as it was juicy and the sauce complemented it really well. Since then this has been one of my top burger spots in the city that I still go to despite having moved back to the UWS. The burger is definitely one of my favorites and I also really like the fries that come with it. It's like a potato wedge, crispy outside but soft inside and it has seasoning options. My boyfriend and I like the Nashville hot and nacho seasoning to go with the fries. The house sauce is a must have to dip with the fries as well. I've never ordered anything else on the menu because we only ever come here for the super smasher combo and it hits the spot every time. Pricing is comparable to other NYC diners, though the portions might not be as much. It's still just right and filling. We tried hot chocolate on our last visit, and it's definitely more sugar than chocolate so we'll just be sticking to our tried and true burger combo moving forward. I had the donuts precious mentioned in my earlier review but at the time did not have the chance to try them. I have to say they were absolutely the best donut I have had in a long time. They were big and had to cut them in half to share and everyone loved them. The ingredients inside were fresh and not overly powering. A day later and the dough in donut was still soft and delicious. Definitely recommend having 1 or 3. The donuts are baked from an outside source and not from them directly. read more
