    Sweet and sour chicken?!!

I have just left Food Zone, 5 min drive home, opened the Sweet and Sour Chicken - at least that's what I *thot* I had ordered - and found it unacceptable! The chicken chunks are barely warm, dry, thickly coated and (I believe) briefly deep fried! There are no onions or sesame seeds to be seen! There are a *few* pieces of (barely) el dente carrot pieces, w/a few scattered pineapple chunks! Period. This place has a long list of complaints over the years, and somehow they remain in biz! Don't waste ur money, folks! Need I say more?!

I think we have a new fav chinese place. This was a first visit and though the gal waiting on us was short and a little rude when asking questions, the food was ok. I think she expected us to know the menu and know what we wanted right away and got a little put out that we weren't ready when she was. Wonton soup was light, with good dumplings. They have chips! Which is a plus in my book. I ordered the SzeWei Shrimp, medium spicy. It was alright. I think the shrimp were deveined too! Huge shrimp as well. You don't find that in many chinese places. Can't wait to try other stuff.

This Chinese food is absolutely gross, I don't understand the hype with this place. Will never go back.

Reliably good food and service, our go-to for Chinese food in the area for over a decade.

Food is always consistently good. We got the chicken fried rice, wonton soup, and steamed dumplings. Service was good!

Food arrives fairly quickly so you won't stay too hungry. The wait to get seated is longer though, especially when it gets busy. There's a lot of seating and it's perfect for group settings. The biggest concern is that the floors are very slippery. I wore trail shoes with lots of grip and even found myself having to walk very carefully.

It's interesting they don't disclose that you get charged for the sauce bar (it's like $1.50/per a person). Good thing I got lots of sauces and they did have fresh sliced oranges! The shao lum bao (soup dumplings) had thick skin and flavor was ok so it didn't taste authentic to me and I was disappointed. The soup bases were ok tasting and got oily after cooking meat (we tried the creamy chicken soup base, the pumpkin soup base, and the spicy mild soup base). You order the soup bases and then select each of the items that are charged separately (like meat, vegetables, and dumplings or noodles). That is why it gets to be pricey! Overall, everything tasted ok. Even the sauces were not as tasty (but prob my fault for not mixing them well). It was good to try once but would not return. Unless their prices dropped hahaha

The only pity is that there might have no walking chicken (走地鸡) US, so it tastes quite plain. Anyway, I highly recommend this restaurant to those who miss the taste of home.

Gai's Kitchen is located inside of Bethlehem Church and when they say kitchen, they really mean it, there's no dine in or host stand to place an order haha. Despite this though, my friend and I were allowed to eat here in the church cafeteria adjacent to the kitchen after stumbling our way into the church and placing our order online, but just so everyone is aware this is for pickup, take out or DoorDash really. Now on to the food! My favorite thing we ordered was the Leshan Beef soup, so comforting, warming, and flavorful! Xiao, the owner, was kind enough to teach us how to best enjoy it which was to first take a sip of the broth, have some of the veggies, then dip the beef into the chili powder. The billionaires fried rice was unfortunately a bit under seasoned but at least the portion size was quite generous. The mapo tofu was very authentic and the numbing spice they used was top notch, although Xiao did mention that they would hopefully be moving towards using a more tender cut of tofu than the medium/hard tofu they're currently using which I think would be delightful. The snowflakes dumplings were good although I question how well the crispness of the dumpling lace will hold up during carry out considering we got to have these fresh. All in all very promising and authentic, I'm excited to see what else might make it onto the menu and how things might still improve from here, they're working out some kinks with the soft opening and they've only been open for 2 weeks!
