It's been a long time since I've been to this restaurant. I didn't like it. I thought I'd give it another try. Bad idea. I ordered take-out, 2 lunch specials - cashew chicken and beef and brocoli. When I got home, my bag contained almond chicken and a spicy shrimp dish. I was starving, so ate some of the almond chicken. I didn't like it, or the egg roll that came with it. Chinese Tonite is one of my grandparents' favorite restaurants. I visited with my grandma on 12/6. One of the staff members recognized my grandma & asked where her husband was. Unfortunately, he passed away in August. I thought it was so sweet of the staff to remember my grandparents so well. She even knew my grandma's order. The food was fabulous & came in huge portions. I'm not a huge fan of "Americanized" Chinese food. I think it could use a huge improvement. FWIW, the family ordered sweet/sour chicken, General Tso's chicken, and beef lo mein. The beef lo mein was the best. Everything else was very bland and unimpressive. Not only that it was expensive, almost $70 for 3 entrees plus a crab rangoon. Carryout service was ok. The food is ok, it's the only Asian place in town so not much choice. When I called to order while looking at the menu on the website, the total was $50 instead of $38. When I called back to ask why, he said the website has been out of date for 10 YEARS and when I asked if I could help update it for him he was pretty rude and said they were not interested in updating it. I came here with my client (I'm a caregiver for an elderly woman with dementia) and her daughter (my boss) before my clients appointment. We came in to for lunch and seated ourselves like the sign says, we were greeted RIGHT away. Very pleasant workers. The waitress came right over and asked what drinks we wanted. She came back with them RIGHT away. We needed a couple more minutes to make a decision on what to order. She came back in the perfect time. I ordered the General Tso lunch special with fried rice and it came with soup and we ordered pork won tons for the table. Everything came so quickly we were amazed!!! And everything was SO delicious! Came here for lunch blindly as I was looking for something close and quick and I wasn't really feeling in a subway mood. Got the lunch special of the day which was orange chicken. Came with a choice of hot and sour or egg drop soup and an egg roll. I'm not a big fan of veggie egg rolls and I didn't think this one was any different than at similar places. The orange chicken came out as expected -- deep fried with a sweet tangy orange sauce. They deep fried a few pieces of orange rind which I thought was nice. The lunch comes with fried rice which is not very flavorful and just brown looking. Also came with some broccoli which was on the cooler side. For 6.50 it's not a bad deal. read more

We stopped in since we were back in the area; haven't been here in over 10 years! There are new owners they said but it looked the same. Hasn't changed much at all in all aspects. This was one of our favorite family spots. It was really good as it always was! Very friendly server and efficient! They deserve a 5 star for the food, price and service! Casual, family eating! The portions are large (as they were back then) and priced very reasonably! Our favorite was Almond Boneless chicken and it was still yummy! Two breasts with gravy on a bed of lettuce. Haven't been able to find this anywhere else when we eat Chinese. Out here in Austin, the egg rolls are half the size and not as good. Here they are big and the Won Ton soup actually has vegetables in it! (Not just chicken or beef bouillon with won ton like most places.) There was enough to split! We were really looking forward to trying this restaurant that's fairly near our home since we love Chinese and there is little options in our area. We are newer to the area. It was the absolute worst Chinese food we ever tried. We were literally shocked how awful it was. And we ordered a lot thinking we'd have left overs for the next day. What a tremendous waste of our money and time. We spent 75 bucks with tip and an additional .99 cent service fee, whatever that is, and we threw it all away with the exception of the wonton soup, that was average at best, and the rubbery egg rolls. We threw away 3 entire dinners. We ordered General Tso chicken, curry chicken and Szechuan chicken, all with chicken fried rice, which was 3.75 extra per dinner! The Szechuan chicken was so unusual with a weird pink sauce that wasn't spicy at all, I wondered if they gave me the wrong dinner. Szechuan chicken is my go to meal for Chinese and I've never seen one that looked let alone tasted like that. The chicken was the main reason the food was inedible. It was very weird. The texture was wrong, almost slimy and pink so it appeared raw so we even tried to cook it more in a pan and it stayed this gross grey pink color and odd texture. And the pieces were tiny. It was just unbelievably awful. We were beyond disappointed and what a terrible waste of our money. I wouldn't feed this food to my dog. read more

Bad food and worse service. I asked for brown rice with my meals. I was given and CHARGED for fried rice. Seriously? But it gets worse...I called to ask about this. I was told, and I quote "we don't have brown rice so we give fried rice. Most people are happy with it". I asked for a credit for a new meal and I was told if I brought it ALL back tonight, they would refund me. I explained I was exhausted, hence buying carry out, so not going back out now. I was hung up on after being told that was all they would do. I called back assuming I was disconnected. Nope. I wasn't. The manager wouldn't get back on the phone and hostess hung up on me again. They improved a bit in the last year. The updated interior is nice. It feels a bit cleaner now, than the sticky grease film that coated everything before. What keeps me coming through the door are the spring rolls and soup. Sometimes you just want a cup of brothy soup and crunchy spring roll. The spring rolls have a wonderful crunch, with just the right amount of filling. This is the one thing they get right every time. The rest is hit or miss. The potstickers are bleh. Very doughy, the meat is strange and they are considerable dry for being pan fried. The fried rice is soy sauce heavy and salty. the crab rangoon filling has some sort of powdered cheese mixed into the cream cheese filling. (like the dry stuff you add to cheap mac n cheese) - I don't think there is any more crab than a bit of crab flavoring. There were two gals to answer phones and help the register, but only one waiting tables. Customers were frustrated at the single woman's lack of multi-tasking and watching the two young ladies (in skin tight athletic pants) lounging on their cellphones at the back table. I understand that help can be hard to find, but... I tend to think that if employees are flippant about their work attire at a restaurant, then they are probably also flippant about hand washing after play with their dirty phones and food handling safety too. smh read more

Wow the friendliest server ever! You'll know her... she calls everyone sweet or honey. On top of this, she was super quick, efficient, and knew exactly what we needed when. The lunch special portion was awesome. Enough for another meal for me, though hubby was able to finish his Mongolian beef off. Each also came with fried or white rice, veggie egg rolls (just meh~ only ate mine cuz I was hungry and couldn't wait for the main food) and soup (egg drop or hot and sour). That said, the actual food was fine, and I'd go back in a pinch, but not wow. I think the business caters mainly to non Asian customers. I only say that because as an Asian who grew up eating kimchi everyday, when I ask for "hot" on the spicy level I expect "hot". Hubby's Mongolian beef had a nice taste with a mild level spiciness (though he asked for hot) and my scechuan pork was really sweet and had a lot of tastes in it, but spicy it wasn't (yes, I asked for spicy). My fish just had too much sauce overall, and unfortunately the sauce was more sweet than anything else. Still, the server was quick to bring out the chili oil for me when I asked. It was nice, but since my food was already so sauced up, I felt guilty adding even more spices to it. Overall, a solid 3-star. read more

Rude, rude, rude!!!!!! I would HIGHLY recommend NOT going to this restaurant. Just unbelievable with the rudeness and being unclean. Several tables not clean, they wiped our table with a dirty washcloth that had food stuck in it. The "way too young" girl gave us the menus and acted like we were an inconvenience. She sat down and played on her Nintendo while we waited and waited for someone to take our order. I politely told her we were ready. She slammed her game system down and got up and walked away. We just moved to the area and are trying to find a local Chinese takeout spot to make a regular. Their egg rolls were delicious, well stuffed and they actually use bean sprouts in the filling which is nice. Crab cheese wontons are crispy and stuffing was delicious. Dumplings were good. The dough they use for their appetizers is more authentic rather than Americanized. The general tso's chicken has a white meat option, which is exactly what we look for. The general tso's sauce was delicious! Tangy and sweet with a hint of crunch from the chicken. Hunan beef was exactly as expected, good mix of veggies and the beef tasted fresh. The shrimp in the Singapore rice noodles were fresh and big. The noodles they use for the lo mein weren't typical lo mein noodles, that was the only issue we had with that item. Their homemade hot oil and mustard are awesome! The mustard has a nice wasabi kick and we loved it. All in all, I'd definitely go back there when we want Chinese takeout. read more

My family has been coming to Chinese Tonite for years. Though we've had a couple bad experiences (getting meat in egg rolls that were supposed to be vegetarian, ick!) they're usually pretty reliable. I agree with a previous review from Beth H. that the place could stand to be cleaner. I'm a huge fan of the vegetable lo-mein and the vegetarian egg rolls. They also have great vegetable fried rice. When I used to eat meat I always got their almond chicken, which I remember as being pretty good. My sister is a fan of the wonton soup and says it's the best around. It's ridiculously hard to find a good Chinese place, and although this place isn't perfect, it is satisfying. I recommend you give it a try if you're in the area. read more
