Ambiance is a Food 4 Less ... probably why prices are lower here . However , bought some creamer , a new flavor, we were super excited to try it and it was chunky . Sometimes we get it , it happens - look at the expiration date - expired 10-31-23 and it's almost Thanksgiving now . That's pretty bad . Obviously poor quality control on whoever's part this was . Now we are checking all dates on all our food to make sure we aren't going to make anyone sick ! Should have went to Ralphs and paid more .. next time we will . Lesson learned ! read more

This is the bargain version of Ralph's, both are part of Kroger. They sometimes have the same items on sale as Ralph's, but with a 10% or so lower price. You also don't have nearly the selection, because this is set up more like a club store. Best thing in the store is the bakery section, especially the cakes. Their cakes are made with cool whip frosting, instead of normal frosting. For me, that's a plus because I'm not a fan of frosting. Their fancy bistro bar cakes are delicious, the mango being my favorite. They are a more gourmet cake, with things like jam layers and chocolate curls. Be advised, the cakes have been frozen, so give them time to thaw potentially, before you are going to serve them. They have a huge selection of cakes, cupcakes, bread, pastry, etc. The cornbread here is $1 cheaper than Ralph's. The only things I buy are ad items, that are cheaper than everywhere else. The rest of my shopping is done at Vons, primarily. This location caters primarily to the Latino community, so emphasis is placed on things like Mexican soda, beers, and basic staples like beans and rice. I don't mind bagging my own groceries, because I can control what goes where (so stuff doesn't get smashed). The major letdown is the parking lot, which is a nightmare. Parking, getting in & out, avoiding obnoxious drivers & wandering pedestrians, and the laundry crowd all make it a hair-raising experience. The only time it's a little easier seems to be Saturday night, because everybody must be partying. Can you get some great deals? Yes, but it's going to take some work. And a stop at another market for the rest of your stuff. Just sayin. read more

This is fairly large Food for Less that we spotted in Escondido and had to do some retail tourism. Food for Less is essentially a warehouse-style store owned by Kroger with great buys. We picked up some produce and meat at good sales prices. The store is clean, well stocked, with a no-fuss attitude. There was one person working the meat/seafood/deli counter. The expansive display of meats and seafood was nice, but the wait to be served was too long. read more

I've been to Food 4 Less in San Diego years ago...and I get it. They don't bag your groceries- that doesn't bother me at all. The prices are considerably cheaper. I was in the area and needed just one thing- dishwasher detergent. I remembered Food 4 Less was down the block and stopped in. First thing that hit me was the smell of urine after I parked my car. Now, while it wasn't actually in the store or within 30 feet of the store, which is a plus...it's still a problem. The good side is it totally ruined any urge I had for picking up any food items here. I quickly walked the store because I simply couldn't find the item. Once I found it, the lines moved quickly even though there were super long. I didn't interact with any employees except for a super brief interaction with the cashier. I'm going to give this spot a low 3 stars. It's ok, but doubtful I would return. read more

This place is huge and comparable to a Costco. I like that they use the same club card as Ralph's but tends to have cheaper prices. This spot has anything and everything you need. I like their selection of wine and liquor. They tend to have cheaper prices than other grocers except for Stater Bros. The checkers are very fast and efficient. Parking isn't too bad as I tend to always find a spot close to the entrance but keep in mind it does get busy. During holidays they have great deals i.e.: spend a certain amount on groceries, get a free bottle of gin or vodka. Not a brand name of course but you can still get your drink on. What's great about this place over a Costco is that you can buy in bulk if you want or even a smaller size is doesn't matter. You'll still be saving. Plus you don't have to pay for a membership. I wish there was a Food 4 Less closer to me, I'd seriously shop at it more often. read more

What can ya say about Food 4 Less? As anyone who's read many of my reviews, I rate a business based on what it's TRYING to be. That being said, I can't rate Food 4 Less on the same basis I'd rate practically ANY OTHER grocery. Why? They're not trying to be "Customer-Oriented" in the normal sense of the word. The decor is basic Warehouse. In some ways, it's kind of a "bare bones" store. No there's no Deli, but there is a Meat Market. Yeah, ya gotta BAG YOUR OWN GROCERIES; what a CONCEPT! You "Elite" Yelpers might not like the place; the women aren't wearing Jimmy Choo, and the guys aren't wearing those nicely cut khakis and Izod shirts. But man, check out those PRICES! Food 4 Less is a division of Kroger, and Kroger KNOWS GROCERIES. In this case, they know how to translate a bare-bones approach to a grocery store into great savings, and still have a decent selection of NOT bare-bones merchandise, among the cheap stuff you'd probably expect. There's an Albertson's that's the closest store to me (geographically), and when I just need an item or two, yeah, I've been known to go there. Between "Al's", a Von's, Ralph's, Fresh Plus, the Latino Supermarkets around me, and some others I'm forgetting about right now, I've got a TON of other grocery stores that are closer. But Food 4 Less stands out as having a product line that can satisfy my BASIC needs, and the PRICES CAN'T BE BEAT. Period. Accordingly, Food 4 Less is where I do my major and planned shopping. The Escondido Food4Less is a wonderful place to find good meat and poultry. The selection is the best and great quality and the prices are very very reasonable. Although the clientele is from the local neighborhoods, they bring much of the Mexican culture which is great!!! Look for Manager Specials...can be a very good bargain! The cashiers are always friendly and the bathrooms are kept in good order and clean. This is where I go to get my veggies. Although Vons, Ralphs and Albertsons have good sales sometimes on veggies, I always know that the prices at Food for Less is consistently low. And they are good quality too. I also come here for eggs and cheese and sauces. But, I don't get meat here since it is actually cheaper to wait for the sales at Vons for the meats. I went shopping at this Food 4 less on Friday 1/8/2021 i waited patiently at the meat counter for assistance with a number in hand. I began to notice that Ruby would call everyone that came after to me for her to help them. This was between 10am to 1030 am. I began to get annoyed as she ignored me while I was waiting to be helped. Instead of walking away I waited to get her name to write this review. It is poor customer service to ignore a paying customer and to help others that came behind you first. I have never felt so disregarded. This food for less is no different than the other food 4 less locations. Yes, you do get bombarded with people trying to hustle their posole and tamales, but just say no if you don't want any or ignore them! Of course they have ethnic items, but so does Albertson's and other grocery stores. The selection in Food 4 less is just bigger and mostly hispanic. I prefer other location to this one, only cause I feel bad/awkward having to say no to everyone on my way from my car into the store and then back again. read more

Sunday January 3,2021 I went to food 4 less in escondido with my sister, the lines were pretty big and in the line that I was in there was a lady with her daughter and husband they had like 2 shopping carts full of groceries, well this lady took probably more than 30 minutes putting everything in bags and when the cashier was done scanning her stuff she had trouble paying with her new credit card which still had the sticker on the front‍ So it's finally our turn and I don't know if the cashier was taking her anger out on me or maybe that's just the way she is but she was rude, she threw the bags I asked for, she scanned my groceries and kind of threw them and she still had the nerve to throw me my change in my hand This was a horrible experience, the staff should of made this lady bag her stuff outside or someone should of helped her and if you don't like your job please don't work in something you dont like and most of all don't take out your anger on someone else I usually like shopping here but after tonight I would give it a negative zero star read more

In regard to the above viewers, I can understand your frustration. However, I feel now that I need to defend this place. I have shopped here time and time again, and there are certain foods that you cannot get in some of the other stores. Putting racial discrimination aside, and just looking at the food, I haven't had any problems with it, and when I was charged double on my receipt, I was able to bring it back and get my money back. Their customer service is not bad at all. You DO have to bag your own groceries though, that's really my only thing I don't like there. However, being a working-class citizen making little money each year, the low prices are worth putting in your own labor. It's not Ralphs or Vons, but it sure isn't the 99 cent store at all. If you guys are looking to save money, then this is the place to go. It's worth the extra trouble to just put up with the crowds and bagging your own groceries to save money, especially in this economy where you have to make ends meet in any way possible. I'm a white, middle-class citizen and a resident of Escondido. I do not condone what some of the above posters have said about the store itself. If you want to avoid all the crowds, go on a weekday late but before they close. Otherwise, just put up with it. It's not fair to this store that you guys are giving it a subjective review because of the environment or because our demographics in Escondido are all Hispanics.
