Great Market, aisles are wide w/o merchandise crammed all over in the way, very clean, and managed very well.

The food selection it average but the service is excellent. During Christmas time there is an elf to find and there is a little treat waiting at the end. This is not my usual staters. I go to the vista one on sycamore. I came here because I work up the street and I needed a few items before I got home. But let me say this place was so friendly and I could tell they know their customers, they knew a few by name, a little child even said bye to a staff member by name on her way out. Never seen someone so unprofessional. Today while I was in line to check out. Two guys from a Taco shop were buying a good amount of soda cans. These men were Hispanic and didn't really understand or speak English. Chad was ringing them up and kept getting frustrated and annoyed with the men due to the language barrier and made everyone feel very uncomfortable. One of the biggest frustrations Chad had was that the gentlemen didn't understand to pass him one of the 12 packs of soda. Chad huffed and puffed his whole way around the register to grab it himself and his coworker even had to tell him to take a deep breath and calm down. It was very sad to see how this employee acted. He should not be the face of the last please of interaction for a business. read more

Accessibility: they have handicap parking and plenty of other parking; the lot is never full. They have regular carts outside the store that you can grab before going in, there are ramps to get up the sidewalk, automatic opening doors, then AC inside to keep you cool. Inside the front of the store, if you walk to the left side near the bathrooms, they have two motorized shopping carts which are super helpful for those who need help getting around. The bathrooms have always been clean and spacious when I've used them. Experience: this is a big grocery store so they have pretty much everything you need. I wish things cost less but all grocery stores are more expensive than I wish. The employees are nice here so I like this store! read more

Yeah this store is about as basic as you can get. Limited selection, high prices and crowded layout. Went to get some tortillas and got the best looking ones available but apparently there are so many preservatives that it refuses to cook properly. A small bag of Doritos is $6. This is my go to spot since our Esconddio location closed. I did notice the aisles are a lot tighter and a little harder to get through if the store is packed. Other than that I found that this store is super clean (bathrooms included) the few times i've visted there is always several cashiers available making it quick for you to make your purchase and be out in less than 10 minutes. Today she went in the back and got 2 12 packs of the product I was looking for, she helped me on a previous visit also. Just bad customer service. I went today to even exchange a dip that was open and they exchanged it but I told the cashier that I would like to be compensated for my travels as I don't live in San Marcos and she smirks and calls the manager and he tells her they don't compensate for travel. So pretty much I wasted my time and gas. If you shop here make sure you check your items because they won't compensate you. I won't be coming back here and will be posting this on All things San Marcos, San Marcos Friends and Escondido Friends groups on Facebook so they are aware of the shitty service they have and think twice if they want to come here when there are many other stores to go to that will compensate you if a product is bad. read more

The meat manager, who has a long, latin first name, is burnt out and done with. His customer service was lost somewhere along the way. Without looking up to even acknowledge a customer being there, he then hesitantly asked if I needed something. I figured if this was the way he wanted to communicate with his customers, then I reciprocate and tell him what I wanted. He dragged his booty to the counter and asked again what I wanted. Was he not listening before? I repeated my order and he "forgot" the second part so i had to repeat that part over yet again. Too bad. Stater Bros built their reputation on their meat department. The above guy is the boss of the department and subordinates follow his lead. Stater Bros should consider speaking with him. read more

I came in for weekly groceries and I was very happy with my visit. Their fruits/vegetables were stocked very nicely and kept clean. Their dry goods aisles were very neat and it was easy to find just what I needed. When checking out we had a very friendly bagger who paid close attention to how gentle he needed to be with my groceries. Our cashier wasn't as attentive. She kept talking to the cashier in the next section. It felt like she wasn't really paying any mind to us. read more

I go here because it's on the way home. But I was late mine shopping for a gift card and was so disappointed that they barely had any. Other than that, if they make this lime the one by Wal-Mart in Oceanside and the one in the valley of Oceanside, I'd like it way more. Every store should be a film service that has the deli, butcher, seafood section, bakery, and rotisserie part. I Joe they follow suit soon. This Negative review is not towards the employees but it's the management, one specific his name is Robert. Large man in white shirt. as I asked a few of the other employees who could assist the lady in Deli, I think Jessica is her name , she was blonde and she was great! However, she seemed to be under stress, which could easily lead to poorly cooked food, cross contamination, etc... I asked twice other employees who were doing their duties if there was anyone that cold help her , they said they told management but said no one could help, yet this gentleman ( The manager or what ever he was , should have title taken away) all he seemed to do is walk around and talk.... I watch him go from cashiers, to walking right by Deli stand and continue to just talk and and not to mention he kept TOUCHING EVERYTHING WITH BARE HANDS as apparently he needs to lean into items to stand, he did this all the way to the produce isle, until he was called over head to go to the office. I don't know how they manage or allow this but seeing the deli backed up you'd think he would at least get behind the counter and take orders or be the one to tell customers it will be an extended wait. I appreciate the lady that cooked the food but don't see the purpose of just having a warm body that does nothing for the customer and makes the store look bad. I hope StaterBros sees this and does something about it. There are plenty of stores I could easily shop at and next time I might. Since they can afford to pay management to just walk around , not even greet the customers but not have enough staff to assist the customers. I have to give this market a good rating as their meat counter staff is really great. They are my go to place for meat. They do their own marinades for chicken wings and I am addicted to most. Check the weekly specials. Also I suggest buying from counter and not discounted packages. I have had a few packages that were bad. Note they refunded no problem. I've been shopping at the San Marcos stater bros location off mission since I was a kid in the late 1970's when it was Alpha Beta. This has always been my friendly, little, neighborhood market. A pall has fallen over this place. When I go there now, it seems as if the life has been sucked out of the building. Low morale, less friendly, and more strained smiles. What has happened? I was at Stater Brothers in San Marcos to get a couple of things last Saturday and when I was checking out, I discovered I had left my wallet in the car. I apologized to the checker and he said no problem. I went to get my wallet and when I returned my groceries were already bagged and the checker was ready to ring me up. At the point the person asissitng the bagger noticed one of the flaps on my 12-pack of beer was loose so he quickly grabbed a tape dispneser to seal up the loose flap. I thanked him and also the checker for his patience with me. It was great customer service! read more

An easy 5 star review for Stater Bros in San Marcos. First wanna give a two thumbs up to Cameron, always says hello when he sees me. I was in later than usual today and Scott saw me struggling with two twelve packs (like everybody else I went in for one thing so I didn't bother to get a cart) he offered to the them to the front and me sure I got them when I finished. This stater bros market is pretty small compared to another location I went to. The staff at the meat section was very friendly and approachable. You don't see that kind of interaction much anymore at the big brand grocery stores. Another cool thing was that they season your meats for free which was pretty nice. It wasn't very busy on a Sunday late afternoon and because of the size of this grocery store, there wasn't much variety for me to get all my grocery needs completed. Their seafood section was so tiny and there was no dedicated staff to sell freshly sliced deli/cheese. I'm not usually in this area so I probably wouldn't proactively come here to do my groceries. read more

Today was our third time shopping at the San Marco's Staters on Mission because it's closest to our home. Each time we have noticed that the attitude and morale is so poor and have decided that traveling to Albertson's another mile away is worth it. From the deli to the bakery, to the bag girl... no greeting, no Thank You, no goodbye!! Today I wished an older woman bagger a good holiday and she completely ignored me!! Hey Staters Manager, why are your employees so unhappy and disgruntled?! The morale is horrible and courtesy is obviously something you don't see as important. The Albertson's crew is always happy and upbeat and even recognized us with just the few visits we've made since moving here 3 months ago. Is this store great? NOPE. Does it always have what I am looking for and prices stay the same, yes! I forgo the other chain supermarkets in the area and mostly stick to Sprouts, Farmer Markets and Bulk Shopping Stores but sometimes I just want to not think while shopping. I know all the aisles like the back of my hand and the same people have been working there since I made it my home store five years ago. The negatives are NO deli, limited produce and NO bakery. Like I said though, I don't sweat it cause I'm usually just in here for a quick list. The only other negative is they hate opening up more then one line at a time unless there is a sea of people hanging out at the same one. This goes for ANY time of day. I have been there at times from 7 am to 10 pm, after work, lunch hour and its all the same. One line. Work on that, and Ill keep coming back. read more

This is the closest store to my new home and therefore was my first choice. Now it'll be my last choice. The produce is limited, overpriced, and old. The checkout lines are always congested. Only three people that work here have not been rude to me. Twice, I've been sold expired food, only to discover it when I get home. When I returned to the store, politely described the issue with receipt in hand and asked for an exchange, the cashiers look at me like I've grown two heads. The baggers also leave something to be desired, bagging my ant poison and my milk together. Really? The store has recently erected banners stating Grand ReOpening. Is anyone else sick and tired of seeing dogs in the grocery store? I have been shopping at the San Marcos Stater Bros for years, and it seems to be getting worse. Several months ago, I reported a lady who was holding her little dog over the produce. When I reported her, the employee told me they are not allowed to do anything about it. Last month, a woman riding one of those rascal scooters brought an unleashed dog into the store. It ran all around, including right into the meat department, where it put its mouth on a few things. Then it ran out to the produce department and peed on the floor. Several customers complained, but the employees said there was nothing they could do. Today, I was pushing my cart down an isle and there was a dog sitting in the center of the isle. I said excuse me to the guy who was holding the leash and he ignored me. When the dog finally moved, I told they guy his dog should be outside and he replied "yeah, probably" and walked away. There was an employee right there who heard everything and did not say a word. According to California Civil Code Section 114259.5 (a) Except as specified in subdivision (b), live animals may not be allowed in a food facility. Exceptions are made for Patrol dogs in the control of a uniformed law enforcement officer, and service animals that are controlled by a disabled person. If Stater Bros is so desperate for business from people with dogs in the store illegally, then I will choose to shop elsewhere. read more

I have seen the decline of what used to be a great market NOT anymore. Been shopping here for quit a while however not anymore it has changed and not for the best. Every employee including the arrogant store manager is rude. I ask for things they direct me like I'm bothering them. There produce department is very nasty everything there is either out of date or they just don't care what they put out. As I said once was a really nice store but not anymore. Sad read more

Worst store! I've shopped here for over 30 years and it's gone downhill especially the last year. Out of date products are the norm. You literally have to check the date on everything! When you bring an out of date product to their attention they'll remove it in front of you and then return it to the shelf because I've seen the exact out of date product on the shelf two days later. Their frozen foods are all stuck together like it's been frozen and thawed and frozen again. Their prices are no longer the lowest. WinCo prices are 50 cents to a dollar cheaper for nearly everything. This Stater Bros never has enough checkers every during peak times. Disappointing as it is this is now the worst store and I've had enough. I'm willing to go farther away from my house to get better fresher products for cheaper. They have lost a long term customer because evidently this store's manager sucks. read more
