They changed the deli recently and I'm not the biggest fan. I personally like my deli meat slices fresh. Now they have completely done away with slicing fresh as you go and now everything is pre sliced and packaged ahead of time. I get what they are trying to do, but I'm personally not a fan of that. Great place to get low price groceries and produce. They are open 24 hours, which is nice so I can do my shopping during quiet hours. They have a large selection of candy in bins, I haven't tried them all yet but have a few favorites. They also have random items in bins like croutons, powder gravy, and various spices I would never expect to find. The lighting inside remains of a creepy horror movie, especially when it's after 10pm. The service is okay here, it keeps me coming back. read more

I like Winco, they are open 24 hours. Crazy. Only shitty thing is they do not take credit. It's CASH or DEBIT only. That's how they are able to keep prices low, they don't have to pay for transaction fees. Which sucks bc cash/debit so old school. Who carries cash? And debit, there's no rewards points for that. But I come here for certain things. Their bulk food items... the best. They have a GREAT bulk food section. I don't have to buy a lot and it's cheap. I love their brown jasmine rice. Great selection. They also have the fat free fair life. I wish they had horizon growing years though. Their bagels are fresh in the mornings! And they are huge and cheap. It's so much better than Ralph's. Amazing selection of tortillas too. I really enjoy all their offerings. They even have Thai basil, but it's a hit or miss with the freshness. The store is a huge warehouse. I love winco but dislike how I am treated by the employees. I was checking out at the self check outs mind you I was using A DEBIT VISA CARD. I also was using cash. The register took the cash then I used a debit card to pay the remaining. The machine kept trying to process the card as credit. Wick by policy does not allow credit cards. The kid kept saying if the machine doesn't accept it I have to use another form of payment. I showed him the card was a debit. He insisted on arguing with me.a super nice lady employee helped me by taking me to a non automated register where I was able to pay. Love the fresh almond butter you grind yourself, it's so clean and just fresh tasting! This place is really a great place to shop and we go here every week. They sell most everything grocery wise and household necessities like laundry soap etc. They have a meat department where you can get various meats and fish. Most of its packaged but some of the shrimp and fish you can get under the counter. They have a deli area that serves hot chicken wings in various flavors and potato wedges. Very good for a quick meal. I love the salt and vinegar wings but I haven't seen them lately. You can also get sliced deli meat. The bakery has came, cookies, donuts, all the standard yummy carbs that you'd expect. I haven't had anything from that department that really stands out as exceptional but it's pretty solid as far as selection and quality. They have a pretty great bulk foods area where you can bag up your own flour, sugar, nuts, candy, just a ton of different stuff. Prices are reasonable in my opinion. I believe they are still open 24 hours but we've never gone that late. It does get pretty packed which is the downside. Often there do not seem to be enough registers open, which can mean a bit of a wait. Also you have to bag your own groceries, they do not do it for you. I am sure this is part of what keeps the cost down. If you are ok with that, which we are, then definitely check this place out. The almond butter alone will keep me coming back. read more

Great variety of foods, and selection of premade meals. Huge store, usually very crowded but easy to work your way through the aisles (wide so plenty of space). WinCo also has great fresh produce. The prices are very good on a majority of their items as well. They have a great bakery section and deli counter. Not as close to home for us but we do like to go when we are in the San Marcos area. I found out you can actually order entire giant unopened packages of the bulk items at the customer service desk and they're ready in like one business day. Cheapest price I've found for tapioca starch and brown rice flour, which I use a ton of for baking. Got 25 lb bags for super cheap. So another awesome reason to shop at Winco. read more

Customer service non existent San Marcos Calif Today between 2-3pm tried to use self check out and was rudely interrupted because I was told I had too many items. She says don't you know what 10 items mean?? Hmmm I commented that I'm the only one using the self check out and there's a bunch of people in line at the checkout registers because they don't have enough people working I was thinking how about a response like hey can I help you with your items and get you through? So in essence I reduced some items and went through self the self check while the attendant just stood there. Hmmm employee owned. Wow doesn't seem so. Clean and well stocked with the best prices in town. Cash/debit only and checkout can be a bit slow but they have fast self checkout. Meat and deli department is very good and their bagels are amazing. Produce is half the price of full service grocery stores but their avocados aren't very good and rarely ripe. 99% of items are in stock unlike the Ralph's down the street where half of what you need is missing. read more

Listen, I'm a fan of Winco, especially their bulk food section. They are also one of the only stores to sell bulk decaf coffee in flavors and with water-processed options. HOWEVER, I was wearing my reading glasses yesterday when I was at the back right hand corner of the store, when I realized how incredibly filthy everything is over there (maybe everywhere, but I stopped looking). I took photos of the olive oil dispenser (honey and agave nectar and ACV are right there and the handles and other dispenser parts are just as gross). The nut butter area looks ok until you look closer. The coffee dispensers are dirty too, but they aren't as obvious because there is a lot of black. The grinding area is not too clean, but there is coffee dust that makes it hard to tell what's new and what is continual grime. Then I made the mistake of squatting down to look at their bin of bulk decaf breakfast blend coffee pods. The pods are all covered with a thick grey coating of dust--which 1) is gross/unsanitary and 2) really makes you wonder how old the coffee is. I thought grocery stores had to adhere to sanitation and freshness standards, especially around food dispensers. No? Anyone? Store Manager? read more

My go to grocery store! Budget prices for quality products, along with so many options from brand name to store brand which have just as good quality as their branded counterparts parts. While the prices iatWinco are good, the checkout experience keeps getting worse and worse. The self checkout area is has high security monitoring - and they recently lowered the number of items to only 10 (was 15), so while the 3 open cashier lanes have long lines with overflowing carts wow the self checkout line is empty, they literally will count every item in your cart and turn you away if you have even one item over. It's ridiculous. Also, Winco has no return policy, and refuses to take anything back. The overall experience gets worse and worse every week from what used to be our favorite place to shop. read more

Having frequented WinCo in Oregon, I was excited to visit this location. I stocked up in their 'price per pound' aisle with lots of sour candy belts and dog treats, which you can't beat their low prices. The fruits here were lower than other grocery stores while maintaining quality. I'm also a sucker for WinCo chips, which is just as good as brand name ones. I was bummed about their bakery section though - it was depleted of fresh bagels since I love the cheddar bagels. read more

Watch out for Winco's fish and perishables. I found out the hard way. I bought some catfish from there and after 1 day in my frig I started to smell something foul. I took the fish out to cook it to find that it was what I was smelling. The manager refused to exchange or refund or exchange the product. It smelled so bad I had to put it in 4 bags to return it to the store. Poor customer service from Luis the manager. He did absolutely nothing to compensate and don't call corporate because they did nothing as well and the person that I spoke to refuse to give me her name. read more

This is where I shop for food. I would say their prices are on average at least 15% less than any of the other stores.. They have a really well stocked bulk section, and I buy a lot of their store brands., For instance, breakfast, cereals, etc. their produce is just OK, but considering their prices, it just makes sense to shop here first. They don't take credit cards, but that's not an issue for us, we just use debit. sometimes I'm actually amazed how much cheaper it is than the other major supermarkets in our area. Also, they sell a wonderful rosemary sourdough loaf. It is a staple in our house, for $3.50 a loaf. Delicious! give Winco a try, there's a good chance you will become a regular. read more

Tell me why everything was going great until we checked out, the cashiers name was estrella some shit like that, ugly ass name btw. I have been shopping at Winco in San Marcos since the day they opened. A lot of older people shop in that store. Today, a customer admittedly (and after the fact) shared she mistakenly took my cart and when she realized it, she left it at the spot where and when she realized it wasn't hers. What made her fess up? Because, before her confession, I asked an employee, Kurt, in the Meat Department, about my cart and he was flippant so I called him on it. The customer fessed up to me only because she heard Kurt telling another employee about me and was laughing about the cart "I" misplaced. Now, I'm a business owner, used to be in the food business and have an older mother. I can handle the belittling but if he did that to my mother, this would be a whole different review. This place is like a Costco with no membership and no need to buy more then you need in bulk. Nothing but everything you need, at a lower price then you've ever seen. They have everything you need for the home, from decor and toiletries to produce and meat. Only thing I have to say is to only buy fresh meat and produce if you're planning to eat in the next 24 hours, as the produce and meat are not the freshest around (which is why they can sell it so cheap). Anything packaged and/or refrigerated is just as good as anywhere else though. Freshly ground almond butter? They got it. All the pasta varieties you can think of? They have it. Planning a seafood boil? Get enough crawfish, seafood medley (octopus, mussel, etc), and Louisiana seasoning to feed a family for less then $40. Places like this are a god-send in a time where everyone's grocery bills have doubled. read more

I love Winco and went out of my way to go to this location because we don't have one around us. The checker and a bagger were so rude to me! I got a carton of OJ and noticed it was leaking. I asked if someone could go for me or would he want me to go. He didn't answer but turned around and pushed the call button. No talking at all from him yet! Then a girl came and he told her to get the OJ. She comes back with a different kind so I said oh I wanted Original and she just looked at me. I said I could just go switch it and she said to the checker "she said she'd do it. I'm going to lunch" and then she left. He still never spoke to me. I think he did say yes finally when I asked if I could leave my cart while I switched the juice. read more

They are understaffed so have long checkout lines and won't let you use self checkout if you have even one item over the limit of 10 items even if all the stations are available. I was told I had 13 items so I removed 3 and then she started counting my pieces of produce as 1 item per piece. For example, a bag containing 5 onions equals 5 items. Asked to speak to manager and a young kid appeared and just repeated what other attendant said. I left my cart and walked out. This is my favorite grocery store! (Comparison between Vons/Ralph's/Trader Joe's/GOBM/Aldi/El Super.) I've been to several WinCos and I think this one feels nicer inside. It is always clean and well stocked. The cashiers are all really sweet. We used to shop at Trader Joe's but were getting annoyed with the shrinkflation and how the cheapest chicken went from $1.99/lb to $5.99/lb within months. WinCo has great prices (even $1.99/lb chicken) at the quality of Ralph's/Vons. They have nice products that we don't buy elsewhere because they are much much more expensive (Cosmic Crisp apples at WinCo are $1.3/lb, better than bouillon is only $3, great sauce selection, amazing bulk section). We prefer Winco to El Super or Grocery Outlet Bargain Market or Aldi just because it has a larger, more reliable selection and it is nicer inside. They also have cleaning products, but these seem to generally have less savings than food products. As long as they keep their prices right, I'm sticking around. The only downside in my opinion is that they don't take Discover or credit cards. So if your only debit card is Discover (like me), you have to go with cash. (They have an ATM that takes discover.) read more

This store is always well-stocked! It's clean and moderately crowded throughout the week (never been on a weekend). Fantastic meat and deli selection at the back of the store, 5 stars for that. Tons of pre packaged/fresh sliced winco brand deli cheeses and meats, and a huge selection of larger cuts of meat. I love the make your own pizza area where you can buy fresh dough and all the pizza toppings in one spot. The bulk foods section and bakery aren't too bad, a little small. Missing one star because prices seem to be going up and some products now match prices with other grocery stores -- but winco doesn't accept credit cards or bag your items in an attempt to keep costs low. They had 2 registers open and everyone in line had a full shopping cart. The small line had 3 people and it took me 20 mins to get to the register. When did self checkout become less then 15 or 20??
