Prices are good, but I feel like every single time I go here, there are one or two items that don't match the shelf at all. Literally every single time. We normally go to Mission Valley location but decided to go to another location in Clairemont, across the street from Wal Mart and LÀ Fitness. Plenty of parking. Clean. Food 4 Less has the cheapest and great quality meats in my opinion for a family of 2. My favorite part of getting the mail is checking out their weekly ad sales. This weekend we picked up 24 pack of Diet Coke for $7.99, 4 bags of Lays for $10 and Thirty's ice cream of 2.99 each. Such a steal for not needed membership rewards. It was a 2-day sale. If you're hungry, we especially like their hot foods such as wings, tenders, fried chicken for $5. We checked out at aisle #9 and Sheri was wonderful and cheerful cashier. read more

Huge store with low prices and a wide selection of food, including organic options. Staff are friendly and professional, but there are never enough cashiers, and there is no self-check option. Although there are 11 checkout lanes, they rarely have more than two lanes open. I often wait more than 10 minutes to check out. Also, they don't have any staff to help with bagging, and this can cause delays when customers take a long time to bag their own groceries. read more

Yesterday, was 03/16/25. To the manager, you and your employees need to check the expiration dates on the food in your store. Especially, the perishable food. This Food for Less location was very impressive. Since I was down in the area, I decided to drop in and do a little bit of shopping. I was greeted by managers with a "Good morning and have a great day!" The store layout was bright and well organized. Shelves were stocked well and the produce section was probably the best I've ever seen in a grocery store. The colors of the fruits and vegetables were vibrant and there was so much to choose from. The bakery had a large selection of cakes and desserts and the deli section had a great selection of meats and deli salads. All the food certainly sparked my appetite. Navigating through the store was very easy due to the widely spaced shopping aisles. I also found items that were competitively priced. All of these things made for a great shopping experience and if I'm back in the area again, I will definitely stop in to do more shopping. read more

Cheaper prices for quality items. It's the same name brands and produce as other grocery stores. Sometimes the sales are even better but you have to pay attention to when those occur. Nonetheless, I like coming here. They always have what I'm looking for. Fresh blueberries, plantains, pomegranate are easy to find. The seasonal products are great on the wallet. Also some cool items I haven't seen at any other grocery stores too. Today I found pretty packaging that made me curious for Thai Jasmine rice and 3 pack Taro Boba kits complete with boba straws. This place is very well stocked and had everything we needed. This was a plus and having secret shoppers follow us in the store the entire time we were there was so fun. The check out makes me not want to go to this location again. There was a long line and I was busy putting the groceries on the conveyer belt along with the help of my son . The cashier was practically throwing the groceries on the conveyer belt along. I proceeded to move up and pay for my $400. Groceries . My son was bagging our groceries as fast as he could. I stepped over to help him and was in need of a bag for my groceries. I reached for one when the clerk snaps at me "those are not your bags they belong to the customer who was standing behind me in line ."He was very rude and he kept rolling he is eyes and signing as we were moving as fast as possible as to finish and get out of there. I am sure that this is not the way Kroger wants their employees to treat customers . Maybe a training on customer service and a reminder to be kind and friendly to every customer would make for a better experience. I'm didn't get the cashiers name but he was not professional and lacked customer service skills . So this made my experience a poor one. Customer service is really something that needs to be addressed at this location. After all I thought that this was the business of grocery stores . I think that if it's your job to be friendly and helpful it needs to be noted and made a priority for employees and who are in the customer service industry . This Food For Less is pretty good and it was pretty clean too. But this cashier really set the tone and made for an anxious check out. . I never seen a food 4 less that has a restroom option before let alone a sign that said Restroom, so assuming this location is located in a better neighborhood otherwise you don't get to use the restroom lol. Anyway besides that big stand out, they also have a nice and organized sections, trust me when you walk into a food 4 less and you feel like you were at Ralphs then at least they have done something right. I like Food for Less because they are cheaper, but I miss the open deli, wine selections, and the overall experience I get from Ralph's! This store usually has a good selection of produce and meat, but several times certain products are picked over! The can goods are hit or miss, and many shelves are empty if you get there late! I was told by one of the cashiers that Kroger will not hire more employees for this particular store. Truthfully, the only stocking I have seen is for the produce section! But, like I said before they have very good prices! read more

I like the prices they are at least 1-2$ cheaper then other grocery stores. The store is clean and organized. I recognize all the checkers each time I come. One cashier I think his name is Olu is very funny and friendly. The only thing I don't like is that there are people asking for money in the parking lot a lot. They have Quinoa and Cauli-Rice at this location and I cant find that at Euclid Avenue nor Mission Valley Food4Less stores. This store also makes the best cupcakes and cakes (bakery fresh). I brought pork ribs and smoked neckbones at their University Avenue location today. I was so outdone to find that both purchases were spoiled. The smoked neckbones were extremely stank before boiling and when I began to boil them. The house smelled like a dead rat once I began to boil them. (my purchase was made on 12/26/23 and the expiration date was 1/4/2024; by the way, they were not in the reduced meat items section. Just AWFULL, they smelled so bad, I got sick to my stomach. Needless to say, I took them back and went home to bake the ribs. The pork ribs were bright pink with very little fat; when I opened the package to clean the slab, I found that the meat surface was extremely slimy and sticky. I had to go back to the store the same day and take that purchase back as well. The ribs weren't in the reduced meat section neither or marked as reduced. This has happened to me at this location before but I thought it was just a fluke and gave them a chance of trust. The cashier's found the smell disgusting as well and apologized. Needless to say, I will NEVER purchase any meats at FOOD 4 LESS, I no longer trust their meats. I never had this problem in the past years with them but 2023 has told me to get out of the vicious game they are playing in their meat department. Today we shopped for Kroger ice cream at $1.99 for the same flavors that we can get at Ralph's for $2.99. Kroger gift cards are accepted, as are credit cards. Oh ... it's bag your own at check-out. My husband came home with groceries that included a lot of fruit last night. I took out the fruit which included grapes, blueberries, and strawberries. Every single one of them had mold inside of them so I knew my husband wasn't about to go back to the store so I had to. Oh I got there and had to wait for somebody to even acknowledge me nobody apologized until the very very end. I just wanted to exchange the fruit because we still wanted it. I went back to the produce department and found the items and everything that they had available was disgusting and moldy and embarrassing that it was even on the shelf. I've included pictures. When I told the manager that that's what happened he didn't even believe me. I got my refund and promptly left and as he handed me the receipt finally apologized disingenuously. read more

I continue to go to this location because the staff always provides great service. Prices are a lot higher now though. My average grocery bill is about 1/4 more than it used to be a month ago, and they don't have as much of a selection. To be honest, I just went to Costco and most groceries are still cheaper there and you get more for what you spend. read more

Came here with a friend so she could use up some coupons. Several people outside the store begging when we came in side, that should have set the tone for our visit. I had to use the bathroom BAD when I got there and it was gross. I think I would have felt more sanity in a port-o-John plus with one working stall at the time and a huge line, I considered a tree outside. Some of the stuff my friend wanted was out of stock and no one around to ask if they had more. Also the stuff I briefly looked at didn't seem like much of a savings. We walked around since I had never been to a Food 4 Less and I wasn't impressed. The pastries were also dry and had flies buzzing around in the case, needless to say we didn't purchase them. Checkout was a royal pain and took ages. Even my friend commented about how long it took so I know it wasn't just me. (she has more patience than I do sometimes lol). I wasn't impressed and I probably wouldn't be back. Walmart is next door if you really need to save money, the store is cleaner and better deals to be had. read more

It's hit or miss at this store. When it comes to service, every blue moon I will get a decent cashier. Other times there are rude ones who will close the line as soon as you walk up to it. With their light in and everything. Also, their pricing is not always accurate. Some displays are confusing and they will advertise for lower prices than what they charge. They do have excellent hot food though. Kind of pricey but good. However the people who make it are kind of on the rude side. read more

I just moved to this area before covid savon sadair and alessandra have always been amazing . The manager sage obviously is the Kind of professional that keeps his good employees close. My sister Kira and me are The best home cooks ever and it's awesome that even the cashiers can help us find ingredients even if they don't have to. The fact that this location has employees on staff that actually know ingredients for dishes and where they're located is amazing. I've been coming here for a few years now and have generally liked it because of the prices and selections... but ever since the pandemic this place has kinda sucked. I understand the pandemic created a shortage of many things but a lot of stuff still hasn't been restocked and sometimes the website claims the store has it in stock but it doesn't. I'm not sure if the store is even getting more items anymore. I mean it's even small things that I never thought would sell out like shallots or ginger. Even when they had a small section it was never sold out. Also they almost never have enough red bell peppers... and that was true before the pandemic as well. Also... the staff is a bit hit and miss. For the most part a majority are really nice but there are just one or two that look unhappy to be there and come across quite annoyed all the time. I've been going to the gym across the street and went into Walmart basically next to the gym for bananas. That Walmart told me to go to Food 4 Less across the street. I have been to the Food 4 less now a few times. The price are good here. One item was over 20% less here than in another store. The vons in pacific beach is always out of stock but this Food 4 Less has the items I am looking for in stock. The last thing is the cashiers have been so nice that last few times I been there. Food 4 Less sounds like the dollar store for food - which is probably not such a great idea to get some decently healthy or fresh food. I was PLEASANTLY surprised by this place. It's like Costco but cheaper and without the membership requirement. Food 4 Less is the place to go for staple items such as cereals, canned goods, frozen foods, generic Kroger brand products, alcohol, toilet paper, paper towels, etc. For any packaged foods, I recommend checking the expiration dates. They have lots of Green Tag Savings and the store sometimes has only 2 Check Stands open that's why only 3 stars but overall it always has great deals and you have to bag your own groceries . I couldn't believe how much I got and it only cost about a little over a hundred bucks. They have great weekly savings don't forget to grab the mailer when you walk in. I come in here about once every few months, after LA Fitness when I need some groceries. I've never gotten a cake from their bakery until today, and it was an incredible experience. Both Desiree and Connie, couldn't have been more helpful. I got a big cake, and told them what I wanted written on it. It was a bit more difficult, as I wanted drum sticks (not chicken, or ice cream...but sticks people use to play drums). They were able to put them on there securely. They decorated the cake lovely. It was all done fast, and they were even able to help other customers that had questions, always being friendly to them as well. The cake was delicious. The people at the party loved it. And...this will be the new place I come to when I have to pick up cakes for parties. Thanks for making the experience so enjoyable. read more
