Okay, so this particular Trader Joe's location isn't my favorite, and honestly, it has nothing to do with the store itself. The parking lot is plentiful, but the way people were driving through the plaza today was another story! People in a rush + people with zero patience = a stressful combination. Thankfully, I made it in and out safely and was able to grab a few goodies I needed before the weekend. I had already stopped in the area to pick up dinner from a couple of nearby restaurants, so I figured I'd swing by Trader Joe's while I was there. And as always, I can usually find something fun or different that I didn't even know I needed. Sometimes they carry items that I don't see at other locations, and when I find one of those little gems, it's definitely a must-have! This Trader Joe's is open, bright, clean, and well organized, and the staff were friendly and worked really well together. I really appreciate that because a busy store can easily feel chaotic, but the employees kept things moving. That said, I probably wouldn't go out of my way to visit this particular location again anytime soon. The combination of the busy plaza, parking situation, and all the activity around Ulta and the other businesses just wasn't my favorite experience. Like every other Trader Joe's, this location is always packed, but also always clean. This is in a plaza with lots of parking, surprisingly. What I love most about Trader Joe's is its consistency with good service and cleanliness. Plus no matter how busy it gets, they always make sure cash registers are manned with cashiers, so the line goes by quickly. I come to this Trader Joe's often as it's conveniently located near several shops and restaurants. The one thing I don't like about Trader Joe's in general is that whenever I find a snack, I like, for some reason it gets discontinued. The latest one I was obsessed with was the sweet and salty snack clusters. Couldn't find it today, but hoping they just ran out and not discontinued. Overall, I love Trader Joe's, especially since it's just me and my boyfriend. The small portions and options they have are perfect for our weekly meals. read more

We've been here a few times now. We truly enjoy every location. We came in on Sunday after our luncheon out. We knew we should eat before grocery shopping. ;) They sell just about everything you would need as far as groceries go. They just don't carry twenty different brand options. We love their store brand products. They offer different meats, vegetables, frozen foods, bakeries, cereals, coffee/teas, various drink options, dairy products, snacks, spices, and more! Oooooh! The plants and flowers are wonderful!! On this trip, we picked up our favorite salad bags, grapes, dips, cheese, half and half, crackers, and chips!! This chain is known for its reasonable prices, friendly service, convenient restrooms, and cool products... like beautiful flowers and ube pancake mix! I looked for the popular mini insulated coolers and trendy mini tote bags, but there were none. There was no sign in regards to the upcoming release of the Halloween-themed mini totes - those will probably show up at the end of September 2025. This tends to be the Trader Joe's I come to the most often because it's the closest to my house. Absolutely hate the parking situation here though. I swear the spaces are smaller than the parking spaces in basically any other parking lot in San Diego. I do not recommend coming here on a Sunday. I've made the mistake a few times, including today and it's always crazy, packed with checkout lines extending into the aisles of food. Aside from that, the store is great. Always a good selection of things. The people that work here are friendly. The interior is very clean and well organized. I used to own a condo near this area and frequently come here. I haven't been to Mission Valley since selling my place last Summer. I had to do a return at Old Navy, and then I decided to go to TJ's here since the one in Hillcrest is the 9th Circle of Hell due to overcrowding and overbuilding in Hillcrest. This is for weekday mornings. When I rolled up in the parking lot at 9:30 a.m. today, there was plenty of parking. There were no issues there, but man, I bet it's a hellscape on weekends and after work, too. Don't come over here unless you HAVE to do so. Anyhow, the employees, as always, are TOP NOTCH five stars all around and super helpful. It is Tuesday, so many dried goods on the shelves were out, but many produce and refrigerated items were abundant. I found the wine section anemic and lacking in variety, though. I love Trader Joe's red wine selections, not the Pinot, but their other reds are excellent. I couldn't find a single bottle of anything there. Maybe it's due to the tariffs or the fact that a lot of wine growers are going out of business but I used to love coming here to get a crate of wine from time to time, I didn't see anything that excited me. A lot of 3 bucks, Chuck, so that's nice. I like this place; it's challenging to get to, which is why the four stars, but everything else was decent. read more

We were at check out and the price of one of our items rang up differently. So the cashier (Kimberly) called the manger (kylo) over and he was shown the two prices then said that he'll honor the price that we seen it at. She then couldn't figure out how to change it and called him over where he then told us it's the other price and he all of a sudden "can't" honor that price. I make my way here typically on lunch. It's a place I like to go for a quick grab and go. I'm not convinced as the other shoppers or people in my community are, that this place is immaculate. It's all around a solid place but I find it to be always busy no matter the time of day, and prices that are higher than what I feel comfortable with. Which makes it difficult to get in and get out when you only have 45 mins for lunch. Because I don't shop here often, I do find it hard to locate items. I sorta stroll down each aisle searching carefully until I see it. There are a ton of workers on the floor which is nice but they can't spend all day walking and shopping with me. Staff and service are some of the friendliest I've ever been around. Really think it's impossible for these people to have a bad day. Parking is trash. This location shares a parking lot with other big businesses. Drive slow and stay off your phone. There's always an accident when I'm here. 2 stars because I generally can't get over the fact that it's always busy and the parking situation is rough. Over the past six months, I've had a recurring problem with Trader Joe's chicken - specifically their chicken tenderloins and whole chickens. Every time I've bought them, they've gone bad well before the expiration date. I'm talking rancid smell within 1-2 days of sitting in the fridge. At first, I chalked it up to bad luck. But after multiple instances over several months (while other meats from different stores stay perfectly fresh), it's clear this is a consistent issue. I've easily thrown out hundreds of dollars worth of chicken, which is frustrating - but more importantly, it's a health hazard. Until Trader Joe's fixes whatever is going on in their supply chain or storage process, I wouldn't recommend buying their chicken. Period. It's not worth the risk. read more

I had a very upsetting experience at this Trader Joe's location. A male employee refused to allow me to return food, even though I have returned similar items many times at other Trader Joe's locations under the same return policy. I am deaf and rely on clear, respectful communication. Instead, the employee was rude, dismissive, and unwilling to accommodate my disability. I love Trader Joe's. The delicious grab and go items, the seasonal goodies, the frozen food section, the flowers, the friendly staff. I don't buy produce from Trader Joe's (except bananas and the occasional seasonal fruit), but love to stock up on pantry and freezer staples, as well as eggs that don't cost a small fortune. All Trader Joe's locations tend to be in strip malls with crowded parking lots, but I like the Mission Valley location way more than Hillcrest's. It's centrally located off the 8 freeway and the parking lot is decently sized. My absolute favorite time to go? Between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. on a Tuesday or Thursday. There's hardly anyone there and the shelves are replenished, and if it's during the holiday season I'm not fighting for my life trying to find a parking space with all the Ulta, Old Navy, and DSW shoppers. Second best time to go? In the evenings Tuesday - Thursday. More crowded but still manageable. Monday and Friday evenings are a hellscape. read more

I lost my trust in Trader Joe's produce, they're cheating you guys! They sell you diluted milk, it varies from 30 - 60% water in it, especially if you buy 1 gallon organic milk or half gallon organic milk. It's hard to check unless you make your own yogurt. Other milks bought from trusted producers give up to 90% white mass with the same technique used during preparation, while Trader Joe's milk gives you 40% (1 gallon container), at best 70% (half gallon). Most likely, that's not organic milk either! Not going to spend my money there anymore! read more

I love Trader Joe's and this location is convenient and centrally located. It is in a strip mall with other businesses so sometimes parking can be a little difficult depending on when you go. I have always had a good experience when shopping here, from the friendly people who work here to discovering the new items. Trader Joe's really seems to treat their people well and value them and they in turn deliver great customer service that makes people come back. The only thing I could comment on is the size of the store-aisles which are a little smaller than say, a Ralphs or Safeway. I also have family & friends in HI who would love to have one on the islands but snacks from Trader Joe's makes great gifts and the exclusivity is real! Trader Joe's has the best prices & MOST delicious foods. I am always craving their gnocchi, salads, pizza, dips, & more! They literally have everything you'll crave. My favorite thing to purchase for snacking is the salami, truffle mousse, hot & sweet jalapeño, & their cheeses. You literally can never go wrong with anything here - I've never purchase one item & didn't finish it, which says a lot about their food & quality. Obviously, there is always going to be an insane line & a copious amount of people, even during work hours on a Monday (I usually come around 2-3PM & it's still incredibly crowded), so I've learned to just stop by whenever. The one thing I do hate about Trader Joe's, is a lot of their best sellers are seasonal! They will tell you a lot of items sold out or are a limited quantity. Items like their sunscreen, which is supposedly a supergoop dupe sold out within a matter of days. I would recommend stocking up on the items you love in case they switch them out. The fig butter? I was standing in line minding my own business and was told to leave the line and that I could go to other registers but I was surprised to hear that since there were all full. My basket was in line to be wrung up next and since he was still ringing up the customer in front of me, I politely said I will go ahead and grab a shopping cart. My basket was super heavy and his register was by the front door. I came back within 10 seconds and pushed my cart behind my basket. The flowers were so pretty by the register so I grabbed 2 bouquets. The lady that was now helping him pushed my shopping cart out of the line. I said what are you doing, she said you need to wait in line. What??? I was already waiting there for 10 minutes. They said no you have to go back behind 3 more people. I said no way I am waiting. He knew I was next and my basket was there to be wrung up. Anyhow they started yelling at me and I asked for the manager. Even with the manger there they were both being rude to me because I'm Persian. I was racially profiled. I am a successful business owner for over 20 years and I have never ever treated my customers this way. Talking down to me and treating me less than human. Roll your camera please. Kimberly, you have no right to treat people as you have treated me today. I was sick today and I still had to work and shop to feed my children. I'm sorry for spending my money at your location. One of my favorite Trader Joe's in the area. This location gets very very busy. Plenty of parking but on Friday to Sundays, it gets super pack! I try to go early and shop here; very clean, the employees are always stocking the shelves. It is always stocked with fresh fruits, vegetables, flowers and food! All of the staff are welcoming and helpful. Their check out lanes are fast compared to others I have been to. They currently have a lot of fall products; their Pumpkin ale and cider are pretty good! I am a regular at Trader Joe's but since the stay at home order, I have not gone to TJ's in over 5 weeks (or longer). I have to say, this has been the most organized, safe, and pleasant grocery shopping experience in this time, compared to other stores. Arriving at the plaza, while the line outside to enter may appear daunting, it actually moves fairly efficiently, besides what else is there to do these days? A helpful associate was standing outside to ensure shoppers were lining up in an orderly fashion and adhering to the social distancing guidelines. Helpful marks on the sidewalk indicated the 6 foot distancing. Along the line, the anticipation grew as if going on a Disneyland ride, with colorful, animated sandwich board signs to describe some of the best practices to ensure a safe shopping experience. It even reminds us that reusable bags should not be brought in now and paper bags will be supplied. As we move closer I can see another staffer at the entrance, hand sanitizer shoppers entering and managing the traffic into the store, another is spraying down the carts, and still another is at the exit door hand sanitizing shoppers coming out. Once inside, there is another associate letting us know which rows are high traffic at the moment and where to start the shopping in the store. I have not seen such organization among the store associates anywhere else. Because of how well they are monitoring the people inside the store, it did not feel crowded and was easy to get around. Even the shelves were nicely stocked and it was a breeze going through all the aisles to make sure we got everything we needed. I noticed in the produce aisle they took away some of the middle stands or rotated them to allow for more spacing, which was great. In terms of the groceries, well not much needs to be said there as they reliably have fresh, tasty items that are reasonably priced. I am so thankful for everyone who is working at Trader Joe's for making this such a pleasant experience. read more

There's plenty of parking, although if you go during peak evening hours it could be crowded given the other stores and restaurants nearby. 4.4/5 stars overall Oh, how I love Trader Joe's! I don't have a TJs close right now so I really appreciate getting to shop here. They have really good quality and delicious products. I think their products are equal to some of the best name brand products. They have their own brand (Trader Ming and Trader Giotto for example :) and control manufacturing so they control quality and keep prices low. They also have a tasting area where they showcase products and drink and always have a coffee to try. The sections I love the most are cheese & deli products, frozen appetizers and snacks, specialty items and snack items. They always have a new tasting item that I add to my permanent grocery. And they have beautiful and delicious items for holidays like the big, gorgeous poinsettia that today were only $4.99. And you can't forget the wine/spirits! There is a really good tasting sparkling wine under the Trader Joe brand. Did I mention the cheese. Well, it's worth mentioning twice! Another wonderful thing is the service. The staff who work the floors always seem happy to be there and are so helpful finding items. Checkout is fast and efficient with really nice people. The staff at the tasting station seem to genuinely like the products and have given me a taste of a product I was interested in but wasn't on their tasting products that day. Really great. Packaging had always been a really big problem for me, though. But in July, 2019, TJs put out an announcement that they identified and are in the process of implementing packaging changes that will remove a total of nearly 4 million pounds of plastic, annually. There may still be some packaging to reduce food waste from spoilage but I hope they can change to beeswax or other sustainable packaging for these products. When this happens, they will be a 5 star store for me. read more
