Food Maxx is a huge disappointment here in Santa Maria (the whole area is produce farms and the city has Tri Tip named for it). The meat department is over priced and poorly stocked. Odd cuts of meat, like the scraps left over, sharp edges and inedible. The trip tip is not ever trimmed and far more expensive than where I moved from in OC. For being a "produce growing city," the produce often looks wilted, and the entire area if dirty and smells. Will not be shopping here. Yuck!! read more

I liked this store for a while as a poor mans costco. What I find offensive is the meat having labels in Spanish versus English. This store is not in North Santa Maria but they still find the need to print Spanish labels so English speakers have to guess what meat were buying. Albertsons maybe more expensive but at least they still believe Santa Maria is America and label as such. read more

I've been going to the north side location since it became a grocery store forever ago. It used to be a great community store. I still love all the employees. Every single one is always helpful and nice BUT I've left the last 5 times going because of the RIDICULOUS long lines, and it's not even during the busy Sunday/Monday lines. It's ALL the time. I do not understand what has happened and talking with others in line they are getting tired of it too. It makes me a bit sad to have to leave but it might be time for a change. read more

I can get everything I need here. Unfortunately the store closet to me is Albertsons. But they don't have any Mexican products. So at foodmaxx I can get the kind of beans I like... the kind of candy.. and the prices are always great. Only downside to this place is the lines are always long. I love this store. Especially if you are working odd hours there is always everything in stock. Always fresh bread, amazing produce, food, meats, fish and sea good, milk, drinks and heat wine and beer selection as well as hard liquor. I think it's better than any other store and prices are super low, while quality is mega high. Interesting mix of great prices and total rip-offs. Example: $0.79 for a pound of Fuji apples, but $1.49 for a pound of bananas. Amazing deals on the loss-leaders, and lots of cheap produce, but you still have to check every price. Worth incorporating into your shopping rotation, especially if you're on a budget, but I wouldn't make it my one-stop shop. read more

Normally we shop at Walmart first (low price) and whatever we can't find at Walmart we go to Albertson's (we eat weird stuff according to our adult children) whatever else we go to Trader Joe's. But since it's pandemic I've been having everything Instacarted. And I've had the opportunity to price check between all of the stores and I found that FoodMaxx is the cheapest and has basically everything I need from Albertson's and Walmart. We haven't shopped at FoodMaxx since we had all four kids in our house which I'm embarrassed to say how long ago that was. My husband was really impressed each week with the order that we were receiving so once my mother had passed away (sounds cold but it was peaceful) and I had already had my surgery the threat level in our house had gone down a bit. He put on his mask and his gloves took a small list and ventured out. And said that he was way impressed. (That takes a lot) The store was very modern and that the produce department was amazing even better than the Orcutt Albertson's produce which is saying something. And he thought that the meat department was just at great standards. He said that from here on out we will be shopping there first. He can't wait until I'm able to go back out in public so I can see for myself. read more

This place is awesome and all the employees have been great and helpful as well accept for one guy! His name was Shawn I believer and he was extremely rude. He straight threw my items across the counter at me. Than I asked for bags and he told me hold on and made me wait there for 5 minutes. I talked to the guy behind me and he said he had problems before with this guy. He also kept telling me to put my items up on the counter as I was putting items on the counter. He was just extremely rude and said "I don't give a fuck" to me too i was shocked that you guys still have this man working for you. Of the 2 in town, this one is the better. What can you say about a grocery store? Good prices, not crowded, and surprisingly well cut meat. In fact, I buy all my meat there now. My one complaint is the often backed up lines to check out. This is partially because it is a "bag it yourself" store but it wouldn't kill them to keep at least 2 checkers on stand in the mornings. read more

They accept Apple pay. Prices are lower than the other grocers in town and a fairly decent selection of products. Most day the produce is fresh but by far not the best in town. Caters to the Hispanic population here. Meat is decent but not amazing. Some products here I can't fine elsewhere i.e.: fairlife milk. Love it read more

The prices are good here. Watch the expiration dates on everything and make sure you really check produce for freshness. The meat dept tends to hide the "bad" side of meat against the packaging so you can't see it so be aware of that too. Still, you can get some good quality meat here. Seafood isn't so good though. I'd think twice before buying "fresh" fish here with the exception of salmon. Again, watch the expiration dates. As long as your mindful, it's a great place to shop and save some money and its in a good location for me. read more

Prices are decent, but my most recent visit this week left a bad taste in my mouth. At the entrance to the store, an employee was handing out ads and announcing the sales of the day. Problem was, the sales he was announcing which were in the ad, were for the next day only. When I complained at the register, the clerk just said the sale wasn't for today. No apology. And they need more checkers - standing in line for 10-15 minutes is ridiculous. I will shop at the FoodMax on North Broadway - they are more professional with the same prices. read more

Really awkward check out stands. They completely screwed up the design with the product stands on. The cashier's back faces you... they didn't keep the belt on for me to bag more easily... so I had to grab & scoot my stuff down & try to pay at the same time. They also don't have Water on the drinks Isle!! Only that fake flavored crap with preservatives & dyes. The two stars were for the normal prices. I have shopped at this location for many years and always had a great experience. Except yesterday I was very disappointed at the way an employee treated me when I was kindly asking about a coupon I wanted to redeem. If I'm not mistaken his name was Juan and he was extremely rude and as I was still talking to him trying to understand about the coupon he walked away. I had an outstanding experience here. I agree with other reviewers to watch out for the expiration and sell by dates on the packages, but the price is right. I made a quick convenience stop for Jalepeno peppers, but I ended up purchasing limes and a grapefruit as well.
