I've been coming here since it opened, but I have gotten more and more disappointed over time. It's often more expensive than larger stores, but it is convenient for me. Just more often than not in the past several months, things ring up higher than advertised. Then I have to hold up the line or go to customer service, where they will adjust the price. It seems like either they are trying to scam people because most people won't notice, or it's just not a priority to take down old signs. The products also need to carefully be checked for expiration. Unlike other stores, they do leave things very close to expiration on the shelf. They used to have a fish counter, but they got rid of that. Like it's fine if you are in the area for produce/perishables, but it's really just not a great grocery store overall. read more

However, I really only come here for anything that I need in a pinch or can't find at the farmer's market. Unfortunately I don't really love this store. The produce section, especially organic, is limited. Plus there have been multiple times where I found mold/rotten produce on the shelf! Just last week I bought a bag of lemons and had to throw out 2 of them that were bad already. They do have a large selection of frozen foods if you are into that. I was in a bind. I needed ice and everywhere near The area was completely out (storm knocked out power). So after calling numerous places, this Foodtown came through! I wouldn't generally come to this area or specifically shop here but now there is a little spot in my heart for this location. The store is by no means a Shoprite or Stop & Shop. It reminds me of my childhood where it had the bare minimums and did the job. I did not have a chance to check out their selection as I was laser focused on ice and that's it. Parking is either on street or in the parking deck. A bit confusing. If you enter from st side, you have to go through the store to grab a shopping cart (none upon entrance). read more

There has been a huge drop in quality and service after the pandemic. Many of its best employees from this location are no longer there, and the ones who are there now, act as though they would rather be somewhere else. They are rude and make you feel unwelcome. Also, why aren't there any baskets for customers to do their shopping? That is most likely due to poor management at this particular store. read more

I am going to break this down into two parts, as i go here for 2 different reasons. 1. For the AHRRE's COFFEE ROASTERY. Couple of weeks ago, these guys dropped off a promotional offer of 6 cups of coffee for $7.50. Then I decided to stop by and see for myself. The place is clean and the staff is so pleasant and friendly. They have 4 new kinds of coffees everyday, decaf option included. The coffee is absolutely amazing. It is such an interesting experience to try new coffee everyday. The barista Tui is such a delight. She is polite, really friendly and takes that extra minute to learn your name. They have a small area in the corner to sit and enjoy your coffee at peace. They now have some books too in the area for you to enjoy that alone time. 2. The grocery and produce. The grocery is fresh and the sales are pretty awesome. They have great bargains sometimes and offers too. The prices are much more reasonable than Trader Joe's and Whole foods. The location is a hit and the area is maintained well. They have a good spread of freshly baked goods and lunch and dinner options. The chicken wings and mac and cheese are excellent. The sushi bar is pretty good as well. The cashier validates your parking, which lets you park for free. This has been my new grocery and produce place since the last couple of weeks. read more

Of course it's expensive (hence location). I'm a local. When i need fresh veggies, poultry, or seafood this is my go to. Usually i'm a Shop rite customer. But this intimate location has been a God send. My children and I noticed an immediate freshness in the quality of their products compared to other Urban markets. I would highly recommend if your just picking up dinner for the night. It's clean too!! read more

Never been a Foodtown fan but this one is ok. It's a wide store and doesn't feel too cramped. The layout is nice and is convienient in the middle of town. Some items I was looking for were lacking that I see at my usual market choices - namely Shoprite, the prices are eh, not too bad but overall nothing special. The entrance to the store seems like it's in an awkward place if you don't come in out of the parking lot. There seems to be some complications with the parking area which although I didn't use, doesn't sound too promising should I have to drive here. There appears to be a café area on the way here to be within the store and as this location changes with the building that it shares perhaps it will become better with its parking and the goods it carries but right now it's just convienient, but wouldn't replace it with the #1 supermarket title. read more

This is a great supermarket. It is not huge, so selection and sizes can be limited, but they make up for it in deals and sales. I once took advantage of a buy 1 GET 2 (yes, that is 3 for the price of 1) sale on English muffins. The cashiers and staff are always polite and sometimes friendly. When parking in the bloomfield parking deck, keep your parking ticket, it is good for 30 minutes, but don't worry, if you get more than 20$ worth of food they will validate your ticket! There is street parking around but it fills up pretty quick. read more

I'm so thankful this grocery store moved into the area, it was well needed! They're well stocked and I like that they have some differentiating niche brands from other neighboring grocery stores. Their prices are a little on the high side but it's offset by the convenience factor. So why 3 stars? Customer service is important to me. I've been to this grocery store at least 50 times and I've yet to have a sincerely pleasant experience with the cashiers, (with the exception of whom I assume is the manager. He's always friendly and his small chat always seems genuine). The cashiers on the other hand, always look absolutely miserable, never smile, and the younger ladies sometimes don't even acknowledge the customers presence with zero greetings uttered and a total lack of eye contact. In this day and age that's unacceptable, especially with what would otherwise feel like a nice, well rounded small town experience in our beautiful little local grocer. They need a serious attitude adjustment! It's really unfortunate and completely unnecessary. read more

I've been going to this Foodtown every couple weeks for the last 8 months or so. Bloomfield has been a food desert for a while now, so getting a serviceable grocery store is a big deal. Trader Joe's in Clifton is still my primary grocery store. But being able to walk to this Foodtown is a big plus when it's rush hour, or if I can't move my car because of alternate-side parking. I have a lot of brand loyalty built up for Trader Joe's, but this Foodtown has some brands nice enough that I could see myself going here full-time. They carry all the staples you'd expect at a good Foodtown. But there's clearly a buyer with good taste picking the high-grade dairy and the sauces. I like the eggs and bacon here as much as my Trader Joe's favorites. There's a few complaints on Yelp about produce freshness, and I've only been on the wrong side of freshness a few times. I've been happy with their potatoes, cucumbers, and onions. But their spring onions went bad on me a bit quickly. They're great if you're going to use them in a day or two though. I'm a fan of their tofu, they sell some quality silky tofu. They don't sell any shredded green cabbage though. There's a couple reasons I'm still primarily a Trader Joe's guy. The coffee bar is as nice as everyone says it is. All in all, this is a good grocery store. It has most of what you'd expect, and a few nice surprises. And considering how dire the grocery situation was in this town, it's plenty welcome. read more

I'm so sick of this place. I would come here all the time because I live in the Avalon building right above this supermarket. I've purchased spoiled food multiple times on different occasions. See photos of spoiled flatbread and stuffed mushrooms with mold. I have to compulsively check everything I buy out of fear of poisoning myself or anyone I cook for. Thia is a fabulous supermarket so far. Clean, bright and spacious. They have high end brands like So Delicious coconut milk and Dayana coconut cheese. They have a hot food section as well. The produce is very fresh. The cashiers are very professional and friendly. One young man addressed me by my last name! This is a good replacement for me since Pathmark closed, and Shoprite is a further drive. One day they had complimentary muffins and cookies! The only problem I have is pricing. The prices are great but some are mislabeled. I bought an apple that was $1.69 a pound. It rang at $1.99 a pound. I bought sausage that was $2.99 with use of card. It rang as $3.49. If they fix their pricing issues this is easily a 5 star supermarket! read more

This supermarket is so clean and not mention very convenient. Before they built this, I would go to the stop and shop. Since I go to Bloomfield, it's a quick walk right after class to go get lunch or groceries before I head home. It is spacious, very clean, and very selective. I love that they have frozen meatless section, as well as gluten free ( with affordable prices). This is not my main supermarket, but it is definitely on the list of places I would go to pick up a few things. Customer service is superb, very friendly and helpful. Great selection of food but the cashiers have attitudes!!! I guess I'm spoiled from shopping at Trader Joe's where the cashiers greet you and say have a nice day when you leave, great customer service goes a long way especially when you are paying on average $3.00 to $5.00 more than other stores. I come here totally out of convenience when I don't feel like schlepping all the way to Millburn or Clifton. I'm not the only one that experiences the rude cashiers I was in line today and heard a customer curse a cashier out. "Yeah bitch yeah," was the exact quote. Happy Jacks Foodtown came to Bloomfield because we residents were in desperate need of a real supermarket in the main central location of Bloomfield. As oppose to going to expensive WholeFoods or some cheaper supermarket out of the way, wasting driving time and excess cash and standing in long, long lines like Shoprite. If your a person whom is tired coming off from work, or a parent with children whom have very little patience in a supermarket, the Jacks Foodtown is for you. If you spend $20.00 (which we usually do) you get parking free at no cost for I believe it's a hour. Inspite of few extra cents we pay for the food items, if you live in walking distance you save on gas money. (get your excerise it's nice outside so enjoy the weather. If you get the weekly advertisement newspaper you'll find some of your items at a discount and even if you see your regular items if you don't need them at that time, well its a good idea to buy it and stock up since your saving. Winter months will be here before we know it and those sale item's will come in handy. Regarding cashiers, the male cashiers are very nice, understanding and polite and helpful. They treat each customer that's spending their hard earned money as a valued customer. The former custodian guy I am glad he is gone because he was rude. The pro about Jacks Supermarket if your a person whom has to go to work early in the morning, you can pick up some lunch meat and items there for your job and head to work and the coffee stand, the cashier is waiting for those early birds whom need a eye opener 1st thing in the morning. If your not happy with an item always talk to the manager, they would be willing to and should rightfully (in order to keep the customer coming back) replace it or refund their money but never send the customer away unsatisfied. It's always best to keep customers coming back by satisfying their requests. Yes, I would recommend people to Jacks Foodtown Supermarket. Just imagine when Jacks Foodtown wasn't here. Convenient, but ALWAYS check the labels. 9 times out of 10 there are items on shelves well past expiration. I'm not sure why there's not any quality control. I constantly check before I buy but still end up missing an item and going home with something that expired a week ago. I warn customers regarding two different brands of green grapes prices per pound. I had several disappointing experiences where the green grapes on an upper shelf did not have the $ per pound. (much higher $5.99 per PD). So it took me four times to realize that the lowe brand green grapes per pound is on a tag saying $2.99 per PD. However, if you go home and don't question it on your receipt why a bundle of grapes is on your receipt is $10.00, then you get stuck with the trick. I finally realized that there were two different brand grapes Not one. I chose the better brand that says on all my receipts $5.99 per pound. Don't be misled by how they are tagging the price of grapes on the shelf. After all, why would they want to put a $5.99 per pound tag for customers to get alarmed by so much a pound? You don't find out you picked up the expensive grapes only to find that could be the reason they did not put the label on a tag $5.99 per PD. read more

I come her once and awhile and the staff can be not so friendly. They gave me attitude when I asked where the diary section is and pointed at a section in the store and started laughing with there co worker. When I walked to the section it was the animal food section. The other time I came by to buy a cake for my brother and once I got it I realized I need some candles. I found the bakery section and I realized the candles are on the top shelf. I asked for help and the staff said to ask someone else because that is not his area. Small but nice near by grocery store. Visiting family and found this shop convenient. Parking was difficult but perhaps they have parking we were unaware of. Few carts to be found entering street side of shop. Staff was most helpful and friendly. Nicely displayed isles, nice fresh looking produce and surprising was the fresh seafood section. This will be my go to grocery store when I am visiting our children. read more

So many options on any types of groceries, the employees are kind and helpful, love how well-lit everything is as well. This is definitely our market of choice from now on! Update: Within a day of submitting my complaint I received a call from Debbie, one of the managers at the store. She was very gracious, apologetic and professional. We spoke about both the POS system and how staff handled the situation. She assured me that there is intention is to restore the ability to pay by phone, but Jack's is currently at the mercy of their POS system vendor, which has not committed to a date by when they will have completed the necessary certification to reactivate electronic payments for chip-secured cards. While I do not think it's acceptable for a vendor to do this, I was glad to hear that Jack's wants and expects the feature to return, hopefully sooner than later. Debbie also assured me that positive customer experience is a high priority for the owner and store leadership. Although no remedial actions were discussed, my impression is that more employee training in customer handling will be done. She recommended that she or another manager on duty be summoned in the future should the need arise. read more

Rating is a 0!! I stopped by for the first time yesterday instead of going to Stop and Shop. I picked up OJ & a loaf of garlic bread. Got my receipt and left. I checked my account the next day (Christmas) and was charged $66! My purchase was $7! I contacted the store and they asked me to come in on today to speak with a manager. Rick (the store manager and Debbie ( the bookkeeper) who was condescending informed me I had to come back on Monday for them to look at the video like it was my fault. I was robbed at your store and you are placing blame on me??? No! Give me back my money!! I did not like the way is being handled. I will NOT be going back there and I caution you to as well. Service is poor and they are borderline racist! I was contacted by the manager who stated "You were right" and refunded my full purchase. My interaction upon receiving that refund was also poor. I did receive a call from the store owner. He listed to my entire story and was very apologetic. He did also give me his personal cell phone number to give him a call IF I went back to the store (or any other) and experienced difficulties. For that, I've added a star to my review. read more

The store is clean and the employees are friendly, but their produce is old. When they first opened I bought a cucumber that was rotten in my refrigerator two days later, and I've bought several cartons of grape tomatoes that became wrinkly and soft in just a couple of days. I've bought several bags of clementines that had moldy ones buried in the middle. Today there were stacks of bags of baby carrots that were dry and had expiration dates of today.
