Good service . Bring your Prime credit card to get Prime discounts and 5% credit on card .service good . Prepared foods very expensive. Remember to bring your bags!. Good produce section. Ambiance is disappointing for high end grocer.

Been coming here a while out of convenience and usually buy the 365 private brand stuff as it's cheaper and good quality, but pretty consistently now they are out of stock on their 365 brand cheerios, peanut butter, pasture raised eggs, frozen broccoli, blueberries & Brussels sprouts. These are like basic items. Not many other reasonably priced alternatives when these are out. And doesn't appear to carry Diamond crystal kosher salt anymore? To me, that's like the only actual cooking salt worth using. The store has a lot of empty shelves in some areas and seems to have trouble restocking and keeping up with inventory. I hate learning a new supermarket layout but probably gonna switch to west orange.

    Checking out.

I'll start by saying I wouldn't do my regular shopping here because it is on the expensive side, but if you are looking for specialty items or high quality fruit, meat, and cheese this place is great. The cheese section is second only to cheese specialty shops. The fromagers are knowledgeable and very helpful and the selection of cheeses and accompaniments are top notch. The produce section is also great, fruit is fresh and they also have a lot of specialty items. The bakery is also great and pretty dangerous too since by the time I get there I have already spent too much money. The only thing that keeps this from 5 stars is the parking which is usually an obstacle course. Other than that I have never had a bad experience here and as long as you shop smart you can keep the bill down.

    Great fish section

AVOIDDDDD It…read morehonestly pains me to have to even write this, because it truly goes against my nature of blasting a small business online and being "tattle-tale-y" in general. In October, I came in to buy CBD (my usual place is far away) and some essential oils. When I got there, I explained to the employee that I was looking for a mild CBD to help me relax, for a calming vibe, etc. I made it crystal clear the last thing I wanted was anything psychoactive as I have a heart condition, and other health concerns. He recommended a specific brand they had, and assured me it was non psychoactive and safe. I took it and went about my day. An hour or so later while eating dinner I began to fully hallucinate. I didn't know where I was, I was not fully conscious and It almost seemed like I was watching myself from outside of my body. I didn't know where I was, how to communicate, etc. (I don't smoke, but am actually a big supporter of the legalization of marijuana products in general ) I was essentially- fully hallucinating. I told my husband I needed to go to the ER and because we have a child who was trying to sleep, we had to call an ambulance. The Hospital treated me and I was tested, my urine came back positive for very very high amounts THC. Turns out, the brand he gave me is a synthetic CBD which causes full psychoactive effects. There are dozens of complaints with the FDA, people have been hospitalized, and I just heard from two friends that this happened to them or a loved one. I called the company the next day and this is where it gets shady, they told me that this particular item was pulled from the shelves a long time ago, they were absolutely shocked to hear this store still sold it. They also assumed it was expired and asked me for the batch number and expiration date and guess what ..... nothing on the bottle ! They said the stickers are on every bottle, so do with that what you will... My husband called the store after the incident and explained what happened, and at first they were apologetic and said they would remove it from the shelves. Thankfully, my insurance covered mostly the whole visit (it was thousands of dollars, if they did not cover it I would be out thousands) but I do have an ambulance fee and copay, which they agreed to pay for and said to call them back when we had the bill. Guess what? That was a lie. My husband tried calling them all week and they clearly screened his number, so today he called from my phone and they picked up and when they realized it was him they yelled "Go Fuck Yourself!!" and told him to not call back. I really don't want this to happen to anyone else, I don't trust that they even removed the items from the shelves, so please BE CAREFUL. Go spend your money elsewhere, other small businesses that actually care about the well-being of their customers, not this place. I am not trying to wine, or play the victim, honestly I just want to warn you all! I am considering getting legal representation, as I have documentation of everything.

I have been part of other food coops in Brooklyn. Yup, that one that is often mocked in the NYT. (…read moreYou can mock it but they built a multimillion dollar business so mock it all you want the hippies built a sustainable model for a grocery store with lots of good organic options.) Thirty years ago people thought we all joined a cult in these food coops. Yup that's right. Usually you join a food coop group with a work commitment to keep the project going, then you get a box of veggies or groceries weekly or so. Fast forward to the present many things food related are a club of sorts. Turns out its not so crazy to join a group and get special food needs met and its also not so crazy to work a bit for it. Anyways Purple Dragon is a food coop, like a buying club, not so much a CSA or community supported agriculture. Although i could be wrong... correct me please. I have been on and off part of this group for 5 years. When i am part of it, I like the affordable box of veggies. There is a good amount of fruit, salad items and veggies to cook. When i come off the subscription its mainly when I cook less in the summer or when i go out of town. The cons. They often include this crazy handout that is crammed with info which i dont read. My eyes are pretty bad. Sometimes you get rutabaga... not my favorite. Also ground cherries are weird. You only get what they give you. This could be a con or a pro. I dont mind being assigned my veggies and fruit but sometimes i do want to buy asian veggies. The pros. Great lettuce. Great organic produce. Often it was boston bib. And often its organic romaine. Great tomatoes and organic bananas that taste amazing. They have it in many towns in the central NJ area like South Orange snd Maplewood.

Just about everything you get will be cheaper and much fresher (and last longer) than your local Whole Foods or supermarket. Because the group prioritizes local organic produce but is not a farm CSA, the mix of produce you get is more varied and useful (you'll get some fair-trade bananas and Florida grapefruit along with those local apples and squash). The people (in my group at least) are consistently nice. Couldn't recommend this group more to anybody looking to make a healthy lifestyle easy and enjoyable. http://www.purpledragon.com/

Naturally I got tired of ordering online and decided to hunt for local spot. Unfortunately, I live in an area that doesn't have people who frequent places like this. I've walked into this place a couple of times. Each time I came in looking for something that health food stores generally carry and came out empty handed. For one, the place is a little dusty, I picked up a bottle off the shelf that was past the expiration date and definitely overpriced. The selection is meek and not up-to-date with any of the newer products or brands. Their personal care section is- frankly, pathetic and carries a lot of the fake natural brands, and nothing of good selection. The only thing okay about this store is that they do carry some good tea and honey (though also overpriced). They also have some essential oils, but the oils are also overpriced and the guy behind the counter tried to swindle me into buying a $30 dollar 1/2 oz bottle of peppermint oil when the $8 bottle of Aura Cacia Peppermint oil is just fine (yet still overpriced). I'm not writing this store off for good, but i am not going to re-visit until they get their act together.
