Reviewers has it right. Fook Yuen is an average, 3-star tier Chinese Restaurant. This place is always busy! I have a feeling it's for the convenience from Waikīkī and the fact it's on the second floor. My gonggong always enjoys eating at Chinese restaurant that are on higher floors because it symbolized its more high class, high status, more luxury, etc. Many well known restaurants are like that in Guangzhou, and Hawai'i had many restaurants like that, such as Wo Fat, Empress, China House, Royal Garden, Lau Yee Chai in the Waikīkī Shopping Plaza, and maybe Hee Hong and Panda Cuisine. The food feels like it's prepared with less and less care and only care about just getting it out as soon as possible. The Lobsters - one with black bean sauce, other with green onion and ginger - were small and one note. It ate like the lobster was flash fried to temp, played, and then sauce/toppings were added on top. The lobster ate dry, especially the green onion one. Black bean sauce was bland too, but at least had some flavor. The Sweet Sour Fish was prepared exactly the same as the lobster. Deep fried the fish, plated, sauce on top. The 10-15 seconds of tossing it in a wok must be too hard. Sauce was too tart and lacked the sweet and savory for balance. Chinese Broccoli with Garlic sauce was bland and almost had zero garlic flavor. Braised Tofu with Mushroom and Snow Peas were okay. Decent oyster sauce flavor. Doesn't seem it was mixed around that much. The Jellyfish ate and tasted like the premade, packaged variety with just the salty one note flavor. Is it me, or is an order of soup getting smaller and smaller while the price is higher and higher? Seems like whether a table of 4 or a table of 6, the soup will always yield one small bowl per person. The Fish Maw and Crab Meat soup was disappointing. Bland. Don't feel any effort was put into this soup. Overall, the food wasn't awful. It just isn't as good as other places. Speed and less care are obvious in its taste and presentation. It doesn't feel authentic. It doesn't feel elevated. Basement level food served on the 2nd level. This place gets too loud when it's busy, and it's difficult to communicate with servers and your own dining companions. Sad there aren't many of these style Chinese Restaurants now, and no one wants to open them.
Still one marvelous place to enjoy great Chinese meals. Granted, their portions seem to be getting smaller while prices have increased drastically, so consumers are probably not getting the same big bang for their hard-earned money. Also, with the posted signs indicating that customers will soon have to pay for parking, I'm convinced that, other than visitors, many locals will be more reluctant to dine there--even with possible parking validation. That's just my take.
We did set menu a for two people. It was all very good. The soup had a ton of shrimp. The honey walnut shrimp was my favorite. The fried rice needed some soy sauce. The wait staff and ambiance were amazing. We will return.
My favorite Chinese food in Hawai'i (as a local who has been dining her ever since I was 10). The ginger chicken, beef chow fun, and of course the PEKING DUCK are my favorites!! For the peking duck, they'll cut it in front of you and put them into baos with oyster sauce and a pair of vegetables. Beautiful. Tapioca is also amazing too, it's tapioca beads in coconut milk but it hits every time. Service there is very fast and helpful. They do everything for you essentially. All very nice and awesome people.
I had Christmas dinner here last night with my hubby and mom. I love the food at this place. You can get a whole lobster for $24.99 with a purchase of another entree. I remember when this restaurant first opened thirty something years ago you could get the lobster for $7.99 with the purchase of another entree. The decor is kind of dingy. I don't come for the ambiance. I come for the food. It's one of my favorite Chinese restaurants on Oahu. I can get a good deal on lobsters and almost everything that I order is good. I can tell that they cook their food on high heat, which gives it wok hei, that great charred taste. We order almost the same dishes every time that we come here. I get the chicken salad, garlic ginger lobster, sweet & sour fish and salted fish & chicken fried rice. I'm not sure what fish other restaurants use for their sweet & sour fish, but they use sea bass here, which I like. The total before tax and tip was $82, which isn't bad. Of course there was also inflation. The portions were smaller than before. Also, they used to put pickled daikon and carrots in the chicken salad. It was missing in the salad yesterday.
Wow it's been 15 years since I've been here. This place is popular! Super crowded! We had Lobster pepper salt and seafood noodles. Both were delicious and would love to come back to try different dishes!
Probably my favorite go-to Chinese spot. They serve Cantonese food, and the service is exactly what you'd expect from a good Asian restaurant: quick, straightforward, and efficient. I love it and come here all the time. We ordered the garlic butter lobster, which was amazing. Super flavorful, great for the price, and the meat was incredibly tender. The honey walnut shrimp is hands down the best we've had on the island and is my boyfriend's absolute favorite dish. The bitter melon beef wasn't for me, but that's only because I personally can't appreciate bitter melon. My mom orders it every time and loves it, and apparently it has tons of health benefits. The pei pa tofu was honestly one of the best things I've ever had. I'm already excited to come back just to eat it again. It's so soft on the inside, slightly crunchy on the outside, and packed with flavor. The black pepper beef sizzling plate is also delicious and something I order regularly. The stir-fried eggplant was so good, I absolutely love it. Prices are very reasonable, around $20-$25 per dish, especially considering how generous the portions are. The ambiance feels like an authentic Chinese restaurant, and parking is ample in the McCully Shopping Center lot.
The best authentic Chinese restaurant around!!! Family style restaurant with big portions, can't go wrong with that! The ratings are low probably because of customer service but the quantity and quality of the food are definitely 10/10!
Really big, decent Chinese(?) restaurant. Got here around 5 on a week night and it wasn't busy but by 6pm it was packed! I got the cashew chicken, and pineapple fried rice. I'm limited since I'm gluten free but the dishes were pretty good. I'd like a little more flavor or spice, but it wasn't bad - lots of cashews! Big family style portions. Decent prices. Lots of options to choose from. Service is very straight forward.
Came here for the first time in a long time. I heard they had new owners twice making the quality of the food go to crappy back to delicious. We gave it a chance and ordered the same thing. We ordered the lobsters, fried rice, shrimp walnut, choy sum, noodles, lemon chicken, crispy chicken, fried tofu, and sweet sour sea bass, and black bean clams. I was worried, but everything tasted just like how I remembered, delicious. The prices have definitely gone up. FYI: They do have a yellow Health Inspection notice on their front door. Staff are decently fast. Lots of tables to dine on. Parking is tight, but there is an outdoor parking and basement parking.

The server informed us it weighed about 1 lb, with a market price of $48/lb. We happily agreed, though we were surprised to find the final bill reflected a weight of 1.98 lbs. That was deceiving. What truly caught our attention were the live lobsters priced at $23.99 each. They were of average size, and we ordered two, preparing them in different styles that showcased the versatility of the dish. To top off our meal, we had a bottle of wine to celebrate a special occasion. Just a heads-up: make reservations if you're planning to visit for dinner as the place fills up quickly! and this was a Wednesday night, also we were a party of four and an automatic 18% tip was added to our bill.
Came to this restaurant on a recommendation from my hairdresser. So many places to choose from in Honolulu and we picked this place. Wish I could go back in time tbh. The place is located upstairs in a strip mall. It all started out ok, the lady in front was nice. We got the chefs seafood special, black bean chicken, and choy sum. The seafood special was horrible and the squid was inedible. Hard and chewy and quite frankly gross. The chicken was mediocre and the choy sum was ok. I had high expectations and was so disappointed. Maybe we just got bad dishes but I expected the chefs special label to have been better than the run of the mill dishes. If you really like flavorful Chinese dishes avoid going to this place.
This Chinese restaurant has been around for a while serving up seafood and other delicious dishes. They're known for their lobster deals, and along with your traditional Chinese classics. We like the lobster, honey walnut shrimp, salted fish egg white fried rice, fried tofu, spinach with thousand year old eggs and many more. Definitely a nostalgic spot for myself, and it's usually busy. Our lobster was small last time and the sauce was watery. But overall would recommend. Check it out for your Chinese food fix! read more

It was an average experience overall. The restaurant is tucked inside the Chinatown Cultural Plaza and faces the waterway rather than the street, which gives it a somewhat different setting. Compared with the dim sum restaurants we're accustomed to in California, the selection here felt a little limited. We tried some of our usual favorites--Siu Mai, Har Gow, and custard buns--but unfortunately, they were just average in flavor and were served cold. The service was friendly, and they do offer dim sum from a few carts, which was nice to see. You can also ask the staff for specific dishes if you don't see what you're looking for. It also appeared that there was only one type of tea available. Nothing was particularly bad about the experience, but nothing really stood out either. Given the other dim sum options we're familiar with, this probably isn't a place we'd make a special trip to visit again. read more

Authentic Cantonese food in the heart of Waikiki! We were excited to come back to this spot after many years since visiting Oahu. Luckily, it still offers the same great flavors & authentic dishes! Attentive servers & quick service. We ordered several different dishes including west lake beef soup, lobster special (!!!), e mein, walnut shrimp & more. Everything was outstanding. The salt & pepper pork chop was on the greasy side but still tasty. Authentic HK desserts on the house--yum! Classic ambiance of an authentic Chinese restaurant, very lively with lots of guests and tables. Gets busy so go early or call ahead for a table! Great spot to go to if you're craving Cantonese food!! read more

平日の20時ごろおじゃましました。。 待つことなくテーブル案内です。。 ロブスターが格安が有名なお店。。 2025年Lobsterの価格は23＄でした。。 （コロナ前は11＄だったかなぁ） Lobsterは好きなお味で調理してくれます。。 ただ身の部分以外も出してくれますが 向くのに手がかなり汚れます・・・・・・。。 その他、普通に中華料理が楽しめるお店です。。 味は割とシンプルでおいしくいただけます。。 量は多めですので 2人で3品頼んだらもうお腹いっぱい過ぎます。。 ドリンクは即出しですし お料理も強火でいためられたお料理の 提供は早いです。。 昔は深夜まで営業していて 遅い時間に大変便利な中華レストランでしたが 現在は22時までと普通です。。 read more

We always come here for a family meal when visiting Oahu. The dishes are generally good but some of the dishes like the pan fried noodle seemed to be smaller sized compared to what we're used to seeing (it was served on a dinner sized plate. We ordered a variety of popular Cantonese dishes such as lobster with ginger and scallion, peking pork chops, shrimp with walnuts, fish maw soup, beef tenderloin with black pepper, clams with black bean sauce, ong choy with fermented bean curd, crispy fried tofu and a roast duck. Everything was generally good. Service was attentive. Decor was a bit dated but they were able to accommodate us in one large table in one of the rooms. read more
Well forgot to take photos caz this places food is bomb and I was hella starving. Only realized I had to write something about this place after I fill my stomach. The services for this place is typically okay unless you start talking chinese to the uncles. They will be nicer afterwards lol. Its a chinese restaurant, so its pretty noisy. Been here since I was a HS, so its been a long minute and the quality of the food is still amazing. Must try their lobsters, they been making it for ages read more

We've been here back when they used to have the lunch buffet, and decided to try it again because someone recommended this place. We got dry beef chow fun and crispy chicken. Was around $5 more for each dish than our usual Chinese restaurant. Food was good, but our usual place was better and cheaper. Parking is free and convenient. It's okay. Nothing bad, but no wow factors. Our bill was $10 than our usual Chinese restaurant that has lunch deals. read more

First time I come to this place and from the begining it was all bad the small lady in the front that was sitting everyone down had a horrible attitude and kept skipping people , it seems that they LOVE big parties because they make money off of them big parties , once I sat down it took about 45 mins to get a table for 1 . After that the service was really good my waiter was good and the food tasted amazing . If you have the time to wait well this is the place you want to eat. read more

Been coming to this place since I was a kid, I love every dish that they make . My favorite are the pig intestines, clams, veggies with thousand year old egg and the tapioca dessert (they used to have a lychee like sorbet which was my favorite until it was discontinued ). read more
My brother and his family like coming here whenever they come to Hawaii. This is their go to place for Chinese food. The food is great here. Service is quick. Big dining area for weddings or any kind of celebration. They also have a small room for private dining. Really good lobster here. Sizzling plate beef is delicious. Walnut shrimp is a favorite of hubby's. read more

I have been going to this restaurant for maybe over 20 years now and I still enjoy their food ! The food has been consistently good and there has been some changes I noticed since the original chef retired years ago . But can't complain as there has been a decline of really good Chinese restaurants here in Hawaii. This restaurant has been here for years and it is usually always busy at peak hours so reservations is always recommended. We had reservations at 530pm to beat the crowds and parking is not so bad at this hour . Try come around 600pm and parking is very tight as this complex has a lot of other restaurants here . After we ordered ... the food came out pretty quickly . Their menu is very diverse so it is difficult to not over order as everything sounds good . . One of their specials is the whole lobster for 29.99 as long as you order other dishes so we ordered three. We picked the salt /pepper style and it was delicious! We usually order our favorites and they were all delicious! We had a party of 14 and we had one big table back of the restaurant so we had the whole area to ourselves which was perfect. We had one waiter and he was excellent as we didn't have to keep asking for anything... he didn't forget anything! Very happy with his service as it so hard to find good service nowadays! I know we will be back because this is our family's favorite Chinese restaurant! read more

First lunch after we landed in Honolulu late last night. We are hungry so forgot to take pics! Since they are famous for cheap lobster therefore every table orders them. Years ago before Covid, their lobster was $14 but you also have to order one regular prized dish from the menu. Now it's $24, the critters are all about 1-11/4 lb ones not canners though. Nicely done, fresh from tank. Salt&pepper pork chops tasty done Americano style, not refined at all Beef chow fun not too greasy. Great value for price paid, an old style Americanized Chinese eatery. read more

A friend of mine that lives in Honolulu recommended this place for their crab. I was so excited to come. I arrived early waiting for the rest of my party. As I was waiting, I notice the fresh lobster tank in the front of the restaurant had nothing but dead lobster. I thought it was odd. Then a gentlemen came out with another man, they were speaking Chinese and then the one man switched to English. He said the water in the tank up front and in the back of the kitchen was too warm. That was shocking for me to hear. When you want to order something, you need to flag down a waiter. They are servicing customers and rushing around. I saw another guest yell and wave for a waiter. I waved a waiter over. The service is very fast and they are quick to take plates away and refill your water. Appetizer: I ordered springrolls as I waited for my party to arrive. They arrived and they were temperature hot and generous size and very crispy. They tasted okay, but the filling was very thin and there wasn't really any flavor. I tried the dipping sauce but it tasted like ketchup diluted with a bit of sugar. Main: I was scared to order seafood after overhearing about the tank water was too warm. We ordered the pepper beef and fried rice to eat alongside the beef. The fried rice was decent, but it had raw slices of iceberg lettuce which I caught was odd, but it did provide crunch. The beef was tender, flavorful, and well seasoned. I was staying on the Waikiki beach area and this was an Uber ride to get to this restaurant. I don't think this place is worth the Uber. read more

I was there this past February and no lunch buffet. Ya know, you can just call them on the telephone and ask them. The number is on their Yelp page. Go ahead, call them.

They have limited adult beverages. Corkage fee for BYOB.
Do you take reservations?
Yes they do it over the phone and I would recommend it if you have a large party
Is lobster available in lunch time or is it just for the dinner menu?
Yes, you can order the lobster anytime.
Can you order lobster for takeout?
Yes, but you also need to order a second dish.
Are there vegan dishes?
Will there be any lobster tonight?
I think you can get lobster anytime here, as they have two very large tanks filled with live lobsters. I just saw the two tanks loaded with lobsters when I ate there this past week.
