The building is old& inside kept clean, but badly needs a make over. We were seated in the back, 2 tables, kinda private area away from the busy lunch crowd. Service is very good & the staff comes and goes efficiently. The food is fresh & the lobster in black bean sauce is tasty & delicious. The golden shrimp is. good size 16/20 & prepared right. Roast Duck & buns with Hoisin Sauce is a winner. Fried rice & noodle dishes compliment the other entrees. Tofu & meat dish served over a flame was different in a good way! We came to Lobster King to celebrate my father's birthday and had a fantastic experience. We usually go to Fook Yuen for family celebrations, but decided to switch it up this time and I'm really glad we did. Parking was easy which is always a plus. There's a decent sized free shared parking lot with Splash, and if that's full there's also a paid lot nearby. Food wise, everything was excellent. We ordered our usual go to dishes along with their special golden crab, which was incredibly delicious and definitely a standout. Every dish was well seasoned and very tasty. The only slight letdown was the Peking duck it was a bit dry and the skin wasn't as crispy as we prefer, so we'll probably order something else next time. A nice surprise was that they brought out a complimentary plate of fried shrimp, which was a great touch and much appreciated. The restaurant itself is spacious, making it perfect for family gatherings, and the service was wonderful attentive without being overbearing, and they consistently checked in to make sure everything was good. They even provided everything needed to cut and serve our birthday cake. Price wise, it's about on par with Fook Yuen. After this visit, Lobster King might be our new spot for family celebrations. Service is good here, but it does take patience sometimes. The inside is clean and the 4-seaters by the windows are perfect for two. The live lobster with specialty sauce is amazing. The lobster is so tender, flavorful, and fresh. Not sure what the sauce is, but it seemed simple as it didn't have any pepper or ginger. The presentation was nice, and the cuts helped so that we didn't need to use the shell cracker or scissors much. The steamed mandu is a decent size. The sauce is made perfectly, with just a little spice and zest to keep you wanting more. The golden shrimp was fried to perfection and very filling. It had a yellow, salty coating that was really good. The sizzling scallops in black bean sauce blows me away. You really can't go wrong with black bean sauce, especially here, but the scallops are huge, buttery soft... and the bell peppers complement the dish nicely. It's a huge portion so definitely a must try. The roast duck is tasty. Typical roast duck with a lot of bones and crispy skin, but the meat is moist. If you like some salt and grease (like I do), then you'll like it. The Szechuan eggplant is flavorful and cooked just right. We ordered fried sweet and sour sea bass and it was sooo good. Not overcooked. The fish inside was moist, steamed quality, and the sauce was perfect. Overall, seafood is the way to go here. Highly recommend this spot for a cooked seafood experience. For years we've driven past and always wondered, but never take the plunge, until now. We had an absolutely amazing dinner here. I made sure to call 24hrs in advance to order their specialty, roasted squab, since we were feeling adventurous. Da pigeon (aka squab) was mean! Just like a super tender, juicy, flavorful miniature Peking duck. They also gave us complimentary salted egg yolk stir fried prawns since we ordered several dishes. Came in for lunch specials 01/2026 Heard the chef from Nam gong was doing his specialty meats here. Options for lunch special were char siu, roast duck, and ginger chicken on a bed of rice and choy sum. Also comes with can soda and a small bowl soup for 12.95! We came here for dinner a few weeks ago because we had a gift card. We must've driven past this restaurant so many times and never bothered coming in. I always thought the parking would be such a problem but actually it turns out that it really wasn't. There's parking on King Street if you come early. It's those crazy spots where the bike lane is. There aren't many. They also have a few spots in the back of their restaurant. We were lucky to get one of those. In addition to those spots they also have another lot which is much bigger in the back. The restaurant is pretty big when you enter. It was quite lively in there and many people were eating dinner at the time. There were a lot of parties there. We ordered char siu, eggplant, beef stir fry, and chow fun. I liked all of the dishes. We had to get the lobster since it we were at Lobster King. We got the black bean lobster. That was by far my most favorite dish of the night. It was so juicy and delicious. They also gave us free fried shrimp. My daughter loved that shrimp, that was her favorite. At first she didn't like that it still had the shell on but she just dealt with it and ate almost the whole plate. This was our 1st time dining at Lobster King and we were excited about trying it after friends raved about the lobster. Although the food was tasty, the lobster & Dungeness crab were grossly overcooked, causing them to be extremely dry and difficult to deshell. The cake noodles in the chicken & shrimp chow mein were brick hard and required soaking in the sauce to tackle breaking apart. The green beans were overcooked, uncharacteristic of Chinese stir frying with the ground pork. Shrimp fried rice was minimally seasoned & bland. The only dish that was delicious was the sweet & sour pork. The service was fine and the ambiance was typical of an "old school" Chinese restaurant. When the owner of Nam Fong retired, all the Chinese restaurants were vying for there "roasters." We have been trying different places where it was rumored that a "roaster" has gone. None of them were worth the time for me to write a review. Today's roast duck & roast pork lunch special definitely took me back to Nam Fong. Note the "Roaster" only works during the daytime. I was served the wrong dish, and when I tried to clarify, the server insisted I had ordered the vegetables. I'm pretty confident I didn't suddenly switch to plant-based mid-conversation. We were four people to Lobster King for lunch, and we ordered six dishes. Including a lunch special rice plate with two choices, a crab with ginger onions, a roasted duck, a ong choi , a crispy fried fish strips, and a fried shrimp. The rice plate came with roasted pork and char siu was not bad, because the price was $12.95 with two choices, and it came with a bowl of soup and a can of soda. The crispy fish strips was not bad too, it looked like french fries with a toothpick in each strips, but it was a fish bone not the toothpick and that was so good and I ate a lot. But the roasted duck was bad and just bited the meat without flavour, and the crab with ginger onions also not very good too, it looked like reheated food and the crab meat was a little dry. The service was fine, and the waitress asked us many times if anything we needed, and helped us refill hot tea a few times. Overall, it was not too good and not too bad either. If for lunch special rice plate that was a good place, but not order the roasted duck and crab. read more

I was the oddball. On a recent state holiday I met up with my foodie friends where we usually get together on holidays for breakfast or lunch. It was determined we go to Lobster King (LK), a Chinese and Korean-Chinese restaurant, that has been in operation since 2010. I've heard and read mixed reviews of this place where it wasn't a priority to try here. But as we sat down at our round table and reviewed the menu, it was revealed that I was the only one who hasn't eaten at LK. Upon arrival shortly before noon, it was impressive that the parking lot from the Keeaumoku St entrance was full so I parked on the other side. As I walked to the entrance, I noticed a group of Korean tourists exit a taxi and came here for lunch. Upon entry, the restaurant was quite full with mixed conversations going on in English, Korean, Mandarin and Cantonese. I pretty much knew what I was ordering for lunch as I've witnessed many, many postings by Judy C., with her raving over the XO Sauce Prawns with Look Funn. When I realized LK also has Korean-Chinese offerings, I also thought about switching to Jyajeongmen or Jjamppong. But no deviation on this visit as I just had to investigate Judy's go to dish here. It was quite amusing and coincidental that all 7 of us ordered different items, most from their lunch menu specials. The restaurant was quite busy and we utilized our wait time catching up with new businesses in town and recent Yelp events. It was impressive that our food was delivered to our table pretty much at the same time. Although we were not dining family style, we placed our food on the lazy susan and snapped away with our cell phones. After taking the pictures, it was finally time to eat. THE VERDICT: The XO look funn was visually an impressive bowl of noodles with a generous portion. There were about 10 decent sized shrimp cooked perfectly with bright green Chinese peas and carrots. I first tried the broth which was flavorful but lacked heat so I asked for "chili oil." But when the staff repeatedly my request with "chili sauce", I then repeated chili oil in Cantonese "辣椒油". She immediately brought me a serving of chili oil where after adding some of it into my bowl of noodles, I was now a happy camper. Personally, my noodles were just okay and nothing spectacular. I'm glad I finally tried it and will order something else next time. When speaking with my dining mates, the consensus was the food was either just okay or underwhelming. Visually, the char siu pork and roast duck both didn't look appetizing at all. Lacked freshness? The oyster sauce chicken cake noodle special was impressive in volume but the noodles look questionable. Another friend commented the mushy won ton skins and hard char siu, again food quality subpar. On a brighter note, several commented on generous portions but food quality and taste were second tier. Service was above average with multiple staff on the floor who are bilingual. They refilled our water glasses and tea pots multiple occasions, checked up on us and brought containers for those with leftovers to take home. LK ambiance and interior exceeded my expectations as I had low standards after reading some reviews. We did witness and heard the electric fly traps go off. LK acknowledges a fly issue and has taken action on addressing that. It was startling at first when some of us heard that first "zap" go off. In my mind, electrical wiring issue crossed my head until I saw fly traps on the wall. Overall, I'm glad that I finally tried LK and game for a return visit. Witnessing multiple Korean speaking patrons has me wanting to try Korean-Chinese cuisine, as well as trying fresh seafood (crab and lobsters). I wasn't impressed with the food quality but fortunate to have spent a great time with friends who elevated this dining experience. NOTE: While dining at LK, a former colleague stopped by our table as he as leaving the restaurant. We worked together over 30 years ago and recall him having a refined palate. LK seems promising and perhaps we just ordered the wrong dishes as the food didn't impress us. read more

Ordered Take Out for Thanksgiving day, 11:30 am. Lobster, Mongolian beef, Shrimp stuffed/fried Tofu, fried rice. Although I had to wait about 20 minutes past the scheduled pick up time (the pickup process was pure chaos in the restaurant), the food was steaming hot when I finally bagged it, and absolutely delicious when we ate in the comfort of our home, watching the Chiefs! I'm looking forward to the few leftovers for another fine meal today! I was somewhat surprised that the Dining room was only about half full of customers, although it was early lunchtime. One of my favorite places to go on Keeaumoku. Dinner can vary from a few open tables to everything full. My group likes to order 1 dish each and try to get at least 1 new item each time. Our dinner on 8/14/24 consisted of: Pei Pa Tofu: 10/10. Nice and crispy outside, gravy, and spinach. Not much more needs to be said other than this dish is one of our all time favorites and we get it everytime we go. Oyster Sauce Chicken Chow Funn: 7/10. The chicken is crispy and the sauce had a nice oyster sauce flavor. The chow funn is nice and soft. Easy to eat but, I do favor their minute chicken a bit more. Stir Fried Bean with Garlic Sauce: 9/10. It sounds silly to order something so simple yet, this dish is quite complex and good. We couldn't decide on a new vegetable so we settled for an old time favorite instead. Roast Duck in Noodle Soup: 7/10. I like roast duck and I like being noodles. This wasn't my favorite version of the dish but it wasn't bad either. There were other dishes that outshined it. Kim Chee: 8/10. Their Kim Chee is pretty good. Not too strong and not too fermented. Often, they will give you a small dish on request at no cost - sometimes they charge. Hard to tell. I do recommend making a reservation ahead of time if you have a party of 5+ but often you can find seating open around 5-6, it gets busy around 7. read more

Cheap food with large portions. We frequently come here for the oyster sauce chicken cake noodle and beef chow fun lunch sets - those two dishes feed three of us, granted we're not huge eaters. While the food is good value, service can be hit or miss. For example, last time we were here there was a fly (understandable, it's Hawaii) but instead of letting it fly and trying to kill it when it was away from customers, they were reaching over people's heads with fly swatters to try to kill it which was a little alarming. The noodles and vegetables were overcooked. There weren't many wontons. I had one, and my wife maybe had three. I was craving for roast Duck. I was very disappointed. The duck was swimming in gray. You may have seen the Lobster King's commercials on television lately. I've seen many tour company's vans with customers dined in here too, although there were some reviews of experiences weren't in their favor. Their service was okay. I've tried and enjoyed some dishes like minute chicken cake noodles for lunch. They have an extensive menu and even one that surprised me was some sort of pigeon dish. I'm sure it was a different type than the ones we know. Of course they do have lobsters on their menu but I only bought lobster one time for my parents. The best deal was their 8 lunch specials! I remembered years ago the specials was under $10 and hve increased over the years, but it was still a good deal and it tasted delicious! I liked their stir fried beef chow fun lunch special but my favorite and go to dish was the oyster sauce chicken cake noodles! For take out , they always packed the gravy separately and chicken pieces was nice and moist with the skin being a little crispy! I just love to eat it as is with no gravy even though their gravy makes it taste yummy with choy sum and cake noodles. The noodles recently may have changed from before, but it was still good. I highly recommend this dish and the other lunch specials. The parking entrance to the restaurant is on Keeaumoku street and also on King Street just before Keeaumoku Street by Splash bar. Lobster King has been around for years but we went for the first time last night. We were blessed to be invited to a dinner there and the hosts ordered the meal for 10 people. There were various waitresses serving our table which was nice. Our teapots were always filled and dishes were taken away promptly. The only downfall was that they did not fill our cups of water the entire time we were there. My daughter drank all of her water so I shared mine with her. The dishes came out one after another and their presentation is very nice. The lobster was cut up into different size pieces and it was difficult to eat its. They give you some scissors and other implements but it still was hard to get the meat out of some pieces. Everything was delicious and pretty fancy! It was the first time I had an abalone dish.
