    Lunch Time!!!
    Debra N.

We were so hungry that six of us scuffed up our minute chicken over cake noodles. The sauce was so tasty and savory that it softened the cake noodles. The minute chicken was fried well done and Choy Sum was crunchy (1/2 cooked). I dipped my chicken in mustard and shoyu. It really didn't need it but I love the flavor of mustard. Someone order side of soup, but looked like chicken broth. Of course, we have to have our hot tea. One of the ladies had the fried fish balls over loose noodles...no complaints from that side...just quiet eating. The service was great very attentive. And ambiance was average... Come check this place out! Ciao!

Cake Noodle Fact: Cake noodles aren't "cake" in the dessert sense (tragic, I know). "Cake" refers to the noodle being pressed into a round, compact disk before it's pan-fried, which is exactly how you get that crispy-meets-soft texture moment. And yes, now I will absolutely be thinking about them often. If you think you know cake noodles because you've had Cantonese noodles before, Lee Ho Fook in Honolulu's Chinatown is here to humble you. I was definitely humbled. Tucked along the canal in Chinatown, Lee Ho Fook Restaurant is one of those cozy little neighborhood spots where the tables are close, the room is snug, and the noodles do all the talking. My Honolulu homies, twinsie "Auntie" Nadine C. and Cycle Buddy Randy S., brought me here for noodles and I'm eternally grateful they did. We ordered the Minute Chicken Cake Noodles, tossed noodles with choi sum and won ton, plus a side of ong choy. Every plate understood the assignment. As an Arizona girl, I had never had minute chicken or cake noodles before and fully assumed they'd be in the same lane as Cantonese noodles. Yelpers, I was wrong. Delightfully wrong. Cake noodles are a Cantonese classic but the magic is all in the texture: pan-fried until golden and crisp on the outside, while the center stays soft enough to soak up all that glossy savory sauce. It's the best of both noodle worlds - crispy and chewy. A true textural delight. The Minute Chicken Cake Noodles were the star for me. That contrast between the crispy edges and soft middle was wildly satisfying, and the chicken was silky, savory, and exactly the kind of comfort food that makes you stop mid-bite just to appreciate what's happening. The tossed noodles with choi sum and won ton were equally comforting in a more classic, no-fuss way, and the ong choy was the perfect green side dish that was garlicky, fresh, and necessary. Lee Ho Fook is small, comforting, and exactly the kind of place you want when what you really need is a bowl of something delicious and humble. Come hungry, bring a few friends, and order the cake noodles.

2/18/26 2nd visit in as many weeks Piping Hot Wonton (only) Soup. Broth was very tasty. Wontons; smaller in size, thin wrapper w whole baby shrimp plus there were lots of these tasty morsels Beef Tendons (only) in Egg Noodles Soup. Very tasty broth w the most tender tendons I've had in awhile n they give alot too! I cannot even remember how many years we have been coming to this place, it has to be over 40 years, back in the day, Mrs. Wong was the owner. The current owner took over just about 30 years ago. Their fish ball / fish cake look fun is their signature dishes. This is our go to place for 魚蛋粉. The restaurant is small and cozy, seats about 20 people. Since we know the owner for many years, when we dine at the restaurant, we talk story with the owner, so, we feel like home. Their food is good with reasonable price, their mini chicken noodle is also famous too. If you have not try it, you need to go check it out. If a restaurant stays in business for over 40 years, it must be good. Recommend.

Lee Ho Fook Restaurant **** RECOMMENDED **** Food: **** Value: **** Menu: **** Ambiance: *** Service: **** Parking: **** Chinese Cultural Plaza When I asked my local Chinese friend, where was his favorite Chinese restaurant? Lee Ho Fook Restaurant was one of his recommendations. He warned me that it is a hole in the wall next to the river by the Chinese cultural Plaza. He informed me that they primarily serves soup and noodle dishes, but he said the food was tasty. When we got there for lunch, every table was taken, so we waited a few minutes to be seated. The waitress, and possibly a co-owner, was super nice, friendly, and gave us excellent service. Our dishes were good, and I would return if I were in the neighborhood. They are similar to Lam's Kitchen, but their selection is a little bigger. I think Lam's kitchen is a little better, because they make fresh noodles daily. You may want to look at the menu and pictures of the dishes, before going here. This is not your typical Chinese restaurant with lemon/orange chicken, beef, broccoli, and fried rice. Lol! But if you love Chinese soup and noodle dishes, it's definitely worth a try. After a previous visit a couple of years ago to Chinatown favorite Lee Ho Fook (LHF), I walked away disappointed as the food quality and quantity declined where I walked away sad. This was a family favorite where we'd patronize here regularly. After seeing some food pics posted by Rod U. and Lyla D., both who I highly respect as they have high standards for Chinese food, I convinced the family to give them another try. Yesterday was spent running errands so appointments and deadlines where I planned an early lunch in between. I was glad LHF only had a table occupied and for those who know this business, the restaurant is small and there were 5 of us. My family allowed me to take the lead in ordering. I know my family's palate so it wasn't difficult to select the menu. I ordered with the new boss lady, who happens to be the niece of the original owner Wong-tai. We asked for iced water and hot tea and waited patiently as our food was being prepared. THE VERDICT: The food quality this round was much better than my previous visit and brought back memories of my younger days eating here. Majority of our dishes were executed well. Star of the show was the cake noodles. Indeed, due to inflation the portions are smaller but I strategically paid the surcharge for extra noodles. The cake noodles were still crisp on the bottom after the hot gravy was poured on top. I'm a huge fan of bone in chicken as the meat tastes better. Need to be careful of the bone shard when eating. We also got the combo beef brisket and beef tendon (surcharge for doing a combination) cake noodles. This dish was polished off quickly as family absolutely enjoyed the beef and cake noodles preparation. Highly recommended. Menu item #36: fish/pork ball in egg drop. Another classic dish of LHF. We were advised the recipe changed a little to be more health conscious as previously chunks of pork fat was used. The new chef omitted the fat component and the dish was still delicious. Favorite niece by default commented this dish brought back fond memories of her childhood as this was one of her favorites here. I decided to follow the table next to us by ordering pepper salt shrimp, which was absolutely delicious. The boss lady commented this is her personal favorite here. It was deep fried where the shells were crispy and the shrimp texture wasn't compromised. Loved the sliced jalapeños and garlic that was tossed in high heat for the wok hei flavor. We also got the won ton soup, which was good but we've had better. The disappointment was the beef chow funn (dry style). It lacked the flavor and texture of a highly skilled chef to toss look funn noodles on high heat. The house made chili oil is a must when eating food here. Add a little soy sauce with the chilies to enhance the food here. Service was above average as it was just a two person team. The boss lady was personable and served us while taking care the front of the house all by herself. Two other tables came in after we sat and the phone rang for a carry out order. Interior is just like how I remembered them in the 90's. It's somewhat dingy but the restaurant interior is kept clean and not well lit. Overall, a fantastic lunch at LHF where I'm already looking forward to my next visit. For sure I'll be getting the beef brisket, beef tendon, cake noodles and the salt pepper shrimp. These items were that good where I'm already craving it despite eating this yesterday.

My wife and I had been craving good Chinese food for a while, so after finishing my workday in town and getting the suggestion from my wife that Chinese sounded good for takeout dinner, I crossed into Chinatown and tried Lee Ho Fook for the first time. The first thing I saw when I walked in was the owner making dumplings by hand. That immediately gave me the feeling I was in the right place. Growing up I watched my own Mom make our version of dumplings, so seeing that kind of care and craftsmanship felt familiar. The owner was warm and very welcoming, and as each dish was completed she brought it out fresh from the kitchen, which gave me a chance to taste the food while it was still steaming. It was hot, but I could not stop myself from sampling it :) Everything I ordered was delicious and clearly made fresh. I'll be honest though, watching the dumplings being prepared right in front of me was a real highlight. I'm sure that some of you out there can relate to this. I also had the chance to meet owner's mother and another gentleman who I believe may have been family, which added to the welcoming atmosphere. The restaurant is small, but it did not feel rushed. We had a good time talking story while the food was being prepared. It was a challenge for me to drive home with all that food in the back of my car. I was tempted to pull over and just indulge, but I remembered that I had to share it lol My summary? Good food, genuine hospitality, and a great first impression. I will definitely be back.

Small hole in the wall family owned local restaurant in China Town. There is a paid parking lot down the block. The wife takes order and serves and the husband cooks. They do a good job of making cake noodles which is unfortunately getting harder to find. I came with my parents, we got won ton, minute chicken cake noodles, bitter melon cake noodles, and tendon tossed noodles. They marinate their chicken overnight. You can order it boneless but then it's not marinated. The bitter melon has freshly sliced garlic and the tendon has a good texture. It was 70 dollars for everything

My sister, niece and nephew-in-law were lucky enough to find this place for our Chinese New Years meal; it was SO AMAZING!! The food was fresh, the owner was a delightful help, it was a small, homely atmosphere and we are so excited to try it again, when we visit Hawaii next time! Thank you for the amazing service! We love you!

The chicken cake noodle we got was very good. It had subtle flavours on the chicken beyond the usual that really made it a surprise considering it is a small shop. It was recommended to us by the worker (possible owner). The place is clean and the food came out fast. We did to-go, and the food was still good after an hour. I definitely want to go again.

Whenever we come back here, I always wonder why we don't eat here twice a month. It's honestly the best Chinese food on Oahu. No one does better tendon or house fried rice (if you think I'm wrong, first come here, and then message me and tell me who you would offer up against them - I dare you!). The family who runs it is lovely and always remembers us no matter how long it's been. Always leave here happy.
