FOOTHILL PAINTERS This is a review for: Foothill Painting Company, Inc 2134 Floyd St. Burbank, CA 91504 (818) 748-3227 Mediocre, mediocre, mediocre. I hired FOOTHILL PAINTING to avoid dealing with individual painters and ended up supervising the painter, the supervisor and fighting with the owner of the company. The two painters took less than two hours of prepping. At the end of the first day, I called the supervisor and asked him not to send this guy's again. They refuse to remove the doors for painting, claiming that it could be too difficult to put them back, painted over a rotten window frame and over the door seal. See pictures 1 to 6. The supervisor asked them to sand and repaint which they did, but still, it just looks cheap. To add grout on my old brick wall, they carelessly spread the grout all over the wall and covered my bricks with cement. Then knocked on my door and asked for the last payment. No one came to inspect the job before asking for money, when I saw my front wall covered with cement (picture attached) and cement all around I called the supervisor, sent him pictures and his response was "would you like us to come and clean it?" Was he expecting me to clean it? See pictures 7 to 9. I sent an email to Brian (the owner or perhaps the supervisor of the supervisors) refusing to pay until they fix my bricks. Someone came 6 days later to remove the cement, first with a chisel and a hammer and then with an electric sander but there is so much cement on my wall that it is beyond repair. I tried to negotiate a discount, but Brian decided that my bricks were just fine, that I was making excuses to avoid paying and threatened to put a lean on my house if I did not pay. He never came to check if the cement had been removed or at least to assess the damage. In picture 10, if you look closer, some of the bricks broke during the "cleaning" and most of them are just covered with cement. I managed to deduct 500.00 for not painting the front door because it is clear that they lack the capacity to paint a front door which they were planning to paint with a brush. It's been two months and the paint in one door is already falling. See picture 11. Anyway, unless you want to spend your time supervising the "supervisors" and pay for a mediocre job, get someone else. These guys don't even understand the basics of customer service. read more

I had this company paint the outside of my house and also the kitchen and living room and the bedroom back in the year of 2008 and they did a great job. This company use to be located on Commerce in Tujunga and has since moved to the city of Burbank. The paint they used at my place was from Dunn-Edwards Paint Company, very high quality of paint. Only the outside is just now showing some wear. This paint company had guaranteed the paint job to last ten years and it had lasted much longer. I would without a doubt recommend this company to others. read more

I waited 2 months for this company to come out and do a medium sized job and they sent a person to do a walk through and changed the whole job. I complained and then they cancelled the job. below our the emails from this company as proof of their wretchedness. --------- Hi Raquel, I am a little upset right now. I just learned that your person who came and did the walkthrough did a substandard job. please consider this job on hold until we speak. Dear Mr. Beck: I was forwarded your email to our scheduling manager, Raquel regarding your dissatisfaction with the preliminary job walk and desire to place the job on hold. While I completely understand your concern, I did review the file and found that we cannot perform this work for you and must cancel our contract for the following reasons: It appears that the work order provided to our inspector does not reconcile with your expectation of the proposed work. We have a very tight schedule and changing the start date means that we would not be able to put this project back into the schedule until the end of November. Most importantly, a review of your communications indicate that you are a tenant and not the owner; by law, we have to have a written contract with the owner of the property before work can be done. I am sorry that we cannot be of service to you at this time. I am having the office send back your deposit of $268.00 by mail today. Our house's exterior was badly in need of painting. They did a great job with wonderful attention to detail. They restored our old door which we had thought might be beyond repair. They finished before they estimated they would, and even were quiet for an hour when I needed to do an important video meeting from the house. Definitely would recommend! read more

I just had the outside of my house painted, and I'm very pleased with the results. I have a moderately-sized stucco house with shingles, shutters, and sash windows. The guys were relatively fast (about a week), and they were conscientious about my requests / fixes (adding a bit of stucco molding, sanding down paint on door, etc.). Just wanted to post a positive review for a change! Sometimes I find that we are quick to go on rants about negative experiences but when things go well, we tend to keep quiet...but not this time! I just want to boast and brag on these peeps! So professional, so trustworthy, so commendable! I have nothing but good things to say, from their attentive and diligent work staff to the responsive office crew and personable owner! I honestly had put off doing work to my home for a few years because of the nightmare of having to actually trust others to do what they said they would - This time with Foothill Painting, they have done what they said they would do and in a very timely manner. We at Sherman Oaks United Methodist Church are happy and grateful we chose Foothill Painting. The price was great, the workmanship thoughtful and the crew a pleasure to work with! Out of the six bids we reviewed Foothill Painting was far and away the best.  Owner Kevin Meyer met with us and analyzed a problem other painting companies had failed to explain.  We had loads of 70 year old decayed wood siding that needed to be replaced; this entailed re-milling boards in a dimension that is no longer commercially available. Kevin and his crew took care of this. Kevin also spent over two hours painstakingly helping our trustee board to select just the right color for our church campus. We were impressed to learn that Foothill Painting is a third generation family owned painting contracting company and more impressed when we spoke to members of the painting crew that have worked with Foothill as loyal employees for over 25 years. The office staff were readily available and a pleasure to work with.  Additionally, the bid, billing and payment schedule were clearly outlined and adhered to. That is utterly false and I've not spoken to or corresponded with this Donald. I never sent a single email or message of praise for the first two painters or expressed gratitude for excellent painting. (There's a big difference between simply being polite and praise.) I never had anything but an uneasy feeling. As I told Faine the first time he came to see the door, I knew there were deficiencies within a couple hours the first morning of work. I told Faine the second painter was clearly better and seemed to be the caliber of painter I expected, but he just didn't sand the door enough to get rid of the circular pits that remain in the paint. "We refund the customer some money." Again, dishonest. Some money was deducted from the amount owed because I bought the Dunn Ed paint which the contract said Foothill was to provide. That is not a refund, that is a cost adjustment. I was reimbursed for the expense of my carpenter fixing the deadbolt that Foothill's painter did not put back together properly. This money went through me and to the carpenter; I recouped nothing. There was no refund, period. What a disappointing company. read more

This company is a dream! Locally owned and operated, which is awesome. Don came by and did a thorough inspection to give us a quote and did not just "drive" by like some of the other places I called. He came BACK out to discuss the quote when I had questions and worked with our budget. Mari Lynn and Rachel in the office were awesome, they always were right on top of things getting me invoices, payment receipts and also took down my paint names when I was frazzled and searching for the samples. Mauricio and his lead man Saul were AWESOME! What unbelievable work these guys did! They put up with my constant questions, gave me advice when I asked for it and helped me make the best decisions for the color schemes. They treated my home like a castle and did not miss a thing! Ask for Fabian and Carlos. They prepped and painted my kitchen changing it from aged to bright and clean. They repaired the ceiling water damage and painstakingly sanded the cabinets. No one wants to put workers in their house but these two made it as pleasant as possible. We would not recommend this company!!!! Their idea of doing prep work on a scale from 1 to 10 is 1. Their so called production manager is useless. Out of the three week job, we saw him maybe 3 or 4 times. He was not even present for the final walk through. I could go on, but just please do not use this company if you want a proper paint job!!!! In response to Foothill Painting reply, something is wrong when a 77 year old and a 68 year old have to crawl out every window to insure they are sanded and primed properly (and that is no lie, our windows are high up in the house and we literally did that)!!!! Windows were painted shut on the garage, painter never asked us to open them!!!! How do you paint windows and doors without them being opened??? They painted first and sanded a bit after we complained. Yes we paid and and reluctantly gave a final approval as we did not want this headache as each day was total frustration!!!!!! Life is too short and we learned our lesson, not to recommend this company. In our initial meeting with Foothill Painting we were told prep work was very important, to this company it is not!!!!!! A final note I welcome anyone to come look at our windows and window sills to see if you would call this job professionally done. And, I resent Foothills Painters reply "Unfortunately the customer had expectations about how the work was to proceed, etc." Yes our expectations were to have the windows and sills sanded and primed properly, which they were not!!!!! Prep work is not in their vocabulary!!!! I shared my review and Foothill Painters response and this is my husband reply: "Clever, but not an accurate portrayal of events. From the outset we pointed out to your painter and to your supervisor (who came to the house) that the work was not being done in accordance with the terms of your contract. In addition we sent several e-mails drawing attention to the lack of prep work. We were advised that our concerns would be addressed and corrected. Hollow promises! We paid you with the advisement that one of your people would come out to the house for a final walk through (phone conversation with Raquel). No show! In view of on going problems that were not being addressed, I was concerned that if I did not pay you you would try to place a lien on my house. From what you are implying I shouldn't have paid you. My stupidity!! Don't bother to respond. It is interesting that you are so responsive now. If you had been as attentive when we expressed our concerns, I wouldn't have written our letter of complaint and we wouldn't be having this conversation now." read more

We used Foothill Painting Company about ten years ago and the company was first rate in performance and cost. Recently, we needed to spruce up the house before putting it up for sale and we again turned to Foothill Painting. Don came out again and gave us a quote and suggestions for getting the best bang for our buck. He gave us two quotes; one for painting the entire outside of the house and one for painting just the portions needed the most including select interior rooms. Because we weren't staying in the home we went for the less expensive option. Don even suggested the colors, telling us what was popular. The inside paint job was fantastic, what a clean, fresh look we got. As for the outside, WOW, the entire outside took on a look of a new paint job and the contrasting new color of Charcoal recommended by Don, made the house indeed POP. The entire Foothill crew from Don, Raquel in the Office to the On-site Manager and all the Painters did a wonderful job, all the prep work and painting were first rate. The painters were friendly and respectful and they even managed not to let our cats outside as they painted. The estimates were right on and their time frames were as well. What a relief to have these people make our lives easier during a stressful time of preparing to move cross country. I want to say a few words on this painting company. a part owner, don freed, met with us and we were very impressed with his presentation and professionalism. we decided to hire this group and they met all expectations beyond belief. we received 20% discount by having them do exterior and interior simultaneously. their price was very competitive and even outstanding in regards to what was done. There are always businesses that stand out from the rest, and that describes Foothill Painting very well. After seeing their excellent work on a neighbor's home we contacted them for a complete repainting of our house, detached three car garage and some interior walls and trim. From the very first meeting with Kevin, one of the co-owners, we knew we were in good hands. All their crew members are regular employees, not sub-contractors. One painter told us that he has been with Foothill for eleven years. The estimate was detailed and professional. They not only painted... They also did quite a bit of stucco and window glazing repair. The prep work was meticulous. What we appreciated the most was their attitude that they would do whatever it took to make sure we were satisfied. Too bad so many businesses don't understand the value of that! Also, they were very careful when moving things out of the way and the cleanup was great. We're sure that there are some other painters who would have submitted a lower bid but, as always, you really do get what you pay for.
