PRODUCE HEAVEN!!!! I LOVE this place. Ever since I discovered Foothill Produce (and their sister store, Felipe's Market), I have not needed or wanted to buy produce anywhere else. WHY WOULD YOU? The prices here are dirt cheap without sacrificing quality. Asparagus was on sale the other week for 99 cents/lb. seriously? And I can get a basket of fresh sweet strawberries for $1. Granny smith apples are 59 cents/lb. It's amazing how much produce you can walk out of this store with for even less than $5. Love it, I come here probably every few days to pick up some produce. Just came back from this store and was schooled on how even though 4 boxes of the same peas sit on the floor under ONE sign, I need to know my produce and not rely on the signs. This isn't an issue of mixed produce, it's on the floor under FOUR boxes! After ringing it up wrong, taking her to see the sign, she doesn't bother to fix the problem or adjust what I was charged. This store has seemingly great prices until you go to check out. If you watch them ring it up closely, you'll almost always find something rung up at a higher than marked price in store. read more

I love this produce! It's right next to Trader Joe's where I go to stock up on some groceries, but I've never been impressed with TJ's fresh fruits and veggies. This produce is a perfect compliment to TJ's! The prices are really really good - I often leave with two bags full of fresh fruits and veggies for about $20. They have an organic section, and also offer dairy, bulk, fresh bread, etc. My fave buy from this store is the berries. They are SO MUCH less expensive than normal grocery stores - about $1.50 or so for a pack of blueberries or blackberries. The employees are very helpful, especially when it's slow at the store. One day while picking brussels sprouts, one of the guys came over and trimmed the bottom leaves for me! What a nice surprise - I always hate doing that at home! ;) read more

Sure there's an assload of produce here. But that's not why I go. It's all the snack type stuff that I like. dried goods, ice cream, baked goods, drinks. A word of caution... Don't park your car in front of this market where they stack boxes of produce impossibly high. I thought I got rockstar parking but when one of the employees decided to make ketchup by dropping a 5' foot tall stack of tomatoes on my ride, I was pissed. I get it, it was an accident, but what made it worse was he claimed my car was never even touched! I was in my car when it happened and felt it shake when the stack dropped. Weird... So an earthquake happend at the exact moment he slopped and that's not a vertical scuff on my front bumper? Jackass! I cover my base and go tell the cashier, who comes out, looks at my car, then shrugs. Super professional with the lack of apology there. Sadly, I still shop there... Love Foothill Produce. The people who own and run it used to be the buyers for the Milk Pail Market. As the milk pail has slipped in quality, I now drive from Mountain View to Los Altos to purchase my veggies here. The quality is first rate and the prices are great and it's right next door to Trader Joe's. Can't beat that combination for grocery shopping ... basically a one stop shop. I used to go here regularly when my parents lived nearby a couple years ago and returned last week willing to endure the chaotic parking lot and cramped store for the fantastic produce I remembered. I was hugely disappointed. The fruit was overripe and in many cases pieces had burst and made all the fruit around them sticky and nearly rotting. The vegetables were old and wilted. Cherry tomatoes clearly rotting in their plastic containers. I bought Acme bread which turned out to be stale -- apparently not refreshed daily like is standard. I also bought arugula which had to be thrown out the next day. Nice that they carry Strauss products but I would not trust that they have adequate standards to ensure proper handling of dairy products. read more

Bottom line at the top: organic produce mostly from mexico and unique imported chocolates/spices/packaged items (sadaf, kinder, etc), this is NOT a normal grocer. -- Whenever I feel like Kinder or Ritter sport products (candy), this is my store. You have to journey through the general clutter and small space all the way to the back left. They import these from Europe so they have different ingredients (namely NOT high fructose corn syrup, which is awesome) and have some crazy flavors you can only get imported. This shop is what my generation hardly ever, if at all, saw--independent, small mom&pop shops rather than these huge conglomerates/chains. The best way I can describe this is kinda like a Trader Joe's, except with many independent ethnic brands--not Trader Jose or Trader Jacques or those other Traders (which I will admit is cheeky, racist, and mildly amusing but also lame all at the same time). read more

Foothill Produce definitely deserves a great update because they are just amazing. It's still my favorite produce market! They've always had a great variety of super fresh produce, but I noticed recently that they've expanded their selection even more. (example: They have every kind of kale ranging for dinosaur to purple!) Felipe has also added a small deli counter and a larger cheese selection among other things. I've also found some cool speciality items like artisan chocolates, quince paste, jam made with agave nectar. Everyone working there is super friendly (they will even remember you by name) and very helpful. read more

Seasonal fresh produce in massive quantity displayed in large vats at an unbeatable price! Located right next to Trader Joe's, I would occasionally come here to buy fresh fruits and vegetables and ingredients that are hard to locate elsewhere. The one biggest problem I have about this place that it's really cramped so people are always bumping into one another and that the check-out lines can be a nuisance. Most people seemed kind and respectful of one another. I had an unfortunate encounter with a big-haired, snobbish, LV bag-lugging, middle-aged woman with a big-ass gold framed dark sunglasses who just cut right in front of me as if she is naturally entitled. I told her there's a line and she just glared at me. Lack of courtesy or decorum. A poor representation of this neighborhood. read more

When I can't make the farmer's market, this IS the farmer's market! I will head here after an early hike at Rancho and I've got to say - it's always clean, very well stocked, attentive employees, ridiculously cheap veggies (the way I remember when my Mom used to shop back in the day at the produce market on West Portal in SF)... Supporting and keeping local produce markets around is pivotal, regardless if it's in an affluent area or not. Otherwise, truck-ripened Safeway tomatoes will take over. read more

This produce shop is so tiny but they pack it with a good selection of fruit, vegetables and things that you may not even recognize. The location is awesome - right next to Trader Joe's, so you can pick up everything you need without driving to another place. The prices are in line with cheap Chinese markets but the quality seems to be a lot better. Despite how small and crowded it gets, it's actually relatively clean and the cashiers do a great job moving people through the lines. Too bad there aren't more produce shops like this one. Foothill Produce is a great alternative to the overpriced goods at Whole Foods and farmers' markets. read more

Fresh and cheap produce with an interesting variety. You can buy okra, blood oranges, purple cauliflower and other awesome thing along with the regular broccoli and lettuce depending on the season of course. I recommend coming to check it out and balancing it out with the dairy staples next door at Trader Joes. Beware of parking and of crazy moms grocery shopping there. It's a tiny place, very unassuming, and there's always a million moms. It's always middle aged women who leave their carts everywhere and it really makes me want to go godzilla on the mini carts and start flipping them and throwing them just so I can get to the brussel sprouts. If you're trying to make a quick stop, avoid all the busy grocery hours like weekend mornings and right after work. That's the worst. OH they also have EXCELLENT chocolate options. read more

One of my favorite places to shop for groceries! I usually go to ranch 99 or marina food because their vegetables are usually the cheapest in the south bay. However, Foothill Produce beats their prices like 80% of the time! And I feel like their vegetables and other groceries are much cleaner and fresher! Another great thing is they sell acme bread! Only thing I do not like about this place is the parking lot. Not their fault though ;p Just too many stores in the same plaza. Also its super convenient because its by a trader joe's. One stop shop pretty much! Oh and also they have expanded their store a bit so its not as crowded, but still a little cramped compared to trader joe's next door. read more

Yeah, I know, you didn't really expect me to review a produce stand. But, these guys are good. Huge selection, mostly very fresh, at great prices. Pay attention to what you're getting as much of the produce is ripe, even very ripe, even close to being too ripe, but there's plenty of good stuff to choose from. I liked their selection of squash, mushrooms, onions (love leeks and not that many stores carry them) and herbs. I couldn't shop the cheese selection as I wasn't headed directly home and it was a hot day, but it looks great, with a large selection of imports. read more

I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE shopping for my groceries here. Not only do they manage to get every type of fruit and vegetable crammed into their relatively small store, but everything is fresh and local too! And the people who work there have been very nice to me. Compare this place with the Trader Joe's next door- everything is fresher and CHEAPER. It really boggles me that I've been paying so much for groceries until now. I agree with another reviewer- I think it's really hard to end up spending more than $10 or $15 here. The other thing I really like is that they are environmentally conscious too- their receipts are printed double-sided to save paper!!! If all local produce markets can offer produce this fresh and cheap, the US probably wouldn't be battling such an obesity epidemic right now. I am so happy I found this place! The carts were not sanitized and nobody manned the door or controlled the number of folks in the store. Very rude staff. We had people sweep under our feet without as much as an excuse me. The checkout lady dropped my produce on the floor and did not even apologize. She glared at me as i packed away the produce i had bought into bags i had got. I happened to be in the neighborhood today and did some shopping at Foothill produce. I have to give this business the credit for trying to fix the problem: the space was cleaned up opening isles, things were moved around to make the customers moving around easier. There is still room for improvement and it is a small place to begin with. But as long the management keeps their customers' experience high on their priority list we will appreciate it. Huge variety of fruits and vegetables at good prices, but it is always crowded and the quality isn't so good sometimes. The parking lot in this center can be a nightmare, and you have to be careful of bad drivers! However, if you are looking for different types of plums, peaches, etc. this is a great place to try some new fruits. Most of the people working here are really friendly, but there are a couple of surly ones as well. You also have to be prepared to sift through a lot of damaged fruit if you are looking for more than a few of an item. read more

When you can't make it to the farmer's market or don't feel like paying $2 for an apple from Andronico's, Foothill Produce is the place to go for all your produce needs. Now, I am a loyal customer of Trader Joe's, but I don't like buying pre-packaged fruit and veggies. So, I hop next door to find great produce at really great prices. Today, Valencia oranges were $0.49/lb. Andronico's was charging $1.69/lb a couple of days ago. I haven't shopped for produce at Safeway since I had a horrifying (and moldy) experience. Kudos to the new owners who have given this place a fresh and bright makeover. And they carry Kinder chocolate which makes my chocoholic co-worker extremely happy. read more

Love this little market. I went in and bought four pears, five carrots, two ears of corn, an onion, a honeycrisp apple, a shallot, two enormous limes, three artichokes, a lemon, and an impulse-buy pack of Israeli couscous, and the whole thing cost me less than six bucks. The couscous was the most expensive thing in the order at a whopping $1.50. They have a great selection of stuff, too -- must be ten different kinds of apples right now. And they've got stuff that's less common around here, like quince, and red jalapenos, and shredded unsweetened coconut, and so on. Wish this place was a little closer to my house but I don't mind making the drive. read more

It is now open under a new management and the new guys are incredible! They cleaned the place and rearranged it to be more accommodating and pleasant. They also brought many new products. The service is kind, welcoming and fast. Most important: They sell a big variety of great, fresh fruits and vegetables in extremely low prices! There is great selection of produce here. Although this is true, the majority of the organic produce is in the back corner. I initially thought that everything was organic. Noticed that the majority of the produce is fresh, but the asian pears were very ripe and bruised.. The staff was very friendly. This is a HIDDEN GEM! I'm so glad that I found this place a few years ago while driving by, looking for a grocery store. I noticed the Trader Joe's sign, which is located next door. This is very convenient in case you need to buy additional things or you just want to compare prices. I LOVE to do my shopping for fruits and veggies here, there are lots of choices and the prices are ridiculously low. This is also my "go to" place for European products! Here I can find things like Vincenzovo ladyfingers and a very good brand of mascarpone (Galbani) for tiramisu, cabbage leaves to make Sarma, tasty Kinder Chocolate for kids, Bulgarian cheese, and many other European products that I used to love back in Europe. I also like that even now, when I live far away from there, I can be there really fast on 280. You have to check out this place! :) read more

Great selection of produce at good prices. They surely didn't spend too much money on presentation, but they passed those savings on to us. Better quality and flavor than Safeway or Sprouts, and cheaper than Whole Foods - great middle ground. Gets pretty crowded, especially if people take the bigger Trader Joe's shopping carts inside. Same owner recently got Sunnymount Produce on El Camino which changed to Felipe's Market. Not sure yet if they are exactly the same. Foothill Produce for me has 2 advantages: a better ethnic section with foods from Germany, Italy, Russia, etc, and Esther's breads & pretzels (from Esther's German Bakery in Mountain View). Felipe's on El Camino still doesn't have that, so I'll keep making the drive. Also, it's right next door to Trader Joe's, so whatever you can't get at Foothill Produce you can then get at TJ's and be done with your shopping, all without having to set foot into Safeway or the like. Awesome. Oh - and two-sided receipts! That's cool, saving 50% paper per customer is quite a bit. read more

We recently moved into the neighborhood and we happened to stop by once to get something quick, we didn't think it was this awesome. Well, we've been going back to this little store ever since pretty much every week. We now try to buy all our fruits and vegetables from here. They are fresh and they are so cheap! The staff members are always friendly and knowledgeable and they always seem to be working hard doing something when I visit. Just imagine, when you buy one of the pre-washed salad bags at Safeway it's 3.99 a box I think and it's maybe 1/2 lb if that. At the foothill produce you can get the same spring mix salads for 1.99/lb, only thing is you wash it yourself, but that's no big deal. That is such a good deal! I love pink lady apples, which are very seasonal, I wasn't able to find any good ones around, not even at the farmers' market. I was able to find good ones here. They also have really cheap Berkeley Farm organic milk too. If you haven't been here, give it a try, it will become your regular stop for fruits and vegetables and it will be worth it. The place is always packed but well stocked with all types of fresh veggies & fruit. They have bulk lettuce, spinach for salads. Also some dairy in the back if your looking for some artsy fartsy cheese. When I need a fresh something green I always shop here. I say check them out! read more

I just got back from a trip there where I was checked out by Maria (I assume she didn't tell me her real name) but for this review, I will refer to her as Fat Maria - the short fat older woman with a big nose. (1) If you want someone to be rude to you, go here and have Fat Maria be your cashier. (2) If you want someone who was SUPER nice to ONLY men, go here and have Fat Maria be your cashier. (3) If you want someone to smash your veggies repeatedly with her big fat man hands, go here and have Fat Maria be your cashier. (4) If you want someone who repeatedly signals you out and tells you to get out of her line and to get into a line with a longer line , go here and have Fat Maria be your cashier. I got all of that attitude because i was...well freaking just standing there in line and never said a word. I'm fairly sure the man I chat with when I come in is Felipe. He and the rest of the workers (not on cashier) are so incredibly nice and helpful and you can tell very hard working. They always remember me and my twin girls who I have been taking there since they were born. What a shame to have Fat Maria in the mix. Also, I noticed they have done A LOT of cleaning up and reorganizing so the store is less overwhelming...but who cares about the inside and everyone else if you have Fat Maria front and center at the register? read more
