I have melanoma. Were it not for me seeking a second opinion, I could be very ill or worse off right now. The doctor at Foothills Dermatology performed a skin exam on me late last year. I was shocked when the doctor spent no more than 2 minutes examining me. She knew that everyone in my immediate family had melanoma and still did a cursory exam. She did not check my hair, ears, feet (toes) and buttocks--all considered necessary to meet the best practices standard. The doctor announced that she found no problems. No biopsy was performed. Dr. Orlick, who performed my examination, told me there was nothing to worry about and to come back in 6 months for another exam. Considering my history of skin cancer, many moles and freckles, not to mention my deep concern that the doctor had not done a professional exam of me, I decided to get a second opinion. I immediately sought an appointment with Dyson Dermatology ( I was seen within 10 days). No sooner had I undressed than the PA announced that I had a suspicious freckle. She performed a biopsy. Sure enough she phoned s few days later to tell me I had melanoma. I did contact Dr. Orlick to inform her that she has missed a serious melanoma. She was very defensive and, sadly, lied to me when recounting events from that day. She did not deny that she did not perform a thorough exam. She told me that I was given the kind of exam that every other patient was given (eee gads). She did not follow best practices medical standards and admitted that she did not examine all parts of the body as recommended by experts. She lied to me when she told me she had asked me to come back in 6 months for another exam. No one in her office asked to schedule my next appointment. Worse, Dr. Orlick phoned me at home a week later to let me know that she had now remembered that she had indeed told me to come back in for another exam in 10 days! I couldn't believe it. Why, if there were no problems found in my exam would the doctor want to see me in just over a week? I realized that the doctor was concerned that I might seek a lawsuit and she revised her medical report of my case to reflect her version of the story. I am deeply disturbed that Dr. Orlick would 'doctor' a patient's medical record to erase a serious mistake she made. Any doctor with a medical degree knows how deadly melanoma is, and that it spreads extremely quickly. The long term survival rate drops dramatically each day that surgery is delayed. Had I not followed my hunch that Dr. Orlick did not give me exam worth charging for (or not charging for) thus my decision to seek a second option, I might be in serious trouble. Please avoid this doctor and her team. Unethical, unprofessional, and lazy. I suspect her concern is profit over people. You have been warned. read more

This is my second face-lift and what a difference Dr. Olsen made in making my experience fabulous. I liked the way he made decisions about shaping my face to a younger look( I'm turning 70 in a few weeks). His wife Mercy who works with him as an RN make an excellent team. Best $ I ever spent on myself. Dr. Olsen did a perfect job removing moles from my face and neck. I had wanted to do this forever but was nervous about the procedure since other places told me it would leave a noticeable scar- but the spots have healed and are not visible at all, so happy with my results. I had a septoplasty by Dr. Olson. Surgery went well, and the service of his staff was amazing. They did everything to make me feel like a king, and answered all of my questions. A few days after my surgery, my incision came open, and Dr. Olson refused to let me go to the ER. He has a jam-packed schedule and he insisted on making time for me immediately. Honestly, I hope I never need surgery again, but If I do, I really hope that it's with Foothills. read more

I see Dr. Powell and she is great. She does a thorough job, takes her time during the visit, and talks to me about my options for treatment. I see her for acne and another benign skin issue and she has always answered all of my questions and I leave the office feeling informed. Office staff also worked with me to help me figure out what my charges would be for an uninsured visit, which was very reasonable. When I call the office I usually hear back from Dr. Powell personally on the same day. Great service, would recommend! read more

Having read the previous reviews on this incredible surgical team, I can only confirm with enthusiasm that all were true and valid, with each review expressing the happiness and joy felt after the procedures by Dr. Olson and his team. I was recommended to Dr. Olson by another cosmetic surgeon who was unable to 'repair' a slight depression on my nose. Dr. Olson had a most interesting solution which was painless with my nose now looking normal. I also had loose neck skin and he suggested a neck lift which was successful, again without pain, and which has restored my confidence in looking closer to the person I think I was in the past. The care and concern shown by Mercy were beyond expectations. If this review would allow for 10 stars, I would say they would be a better tribute to Dr. Olson, Mercy, and his staff. read more

I am very disappointed with this office. I am a long time patient of one of the dermatologist who has changed her office to this location. When I called recently to make an appt for a post-covid hair loss issue I was informed that she did not handle hair loss but I could see the PA, Linda Meyers. I agreed and then was told I needed to have my primary give a referral. I told the front office individual that my insurance policy did not necessitate a referral and that I had never had an issue in the past. She insisted I did but I was welcome to come in but there would be issues without a referral. I ended up doing a conference call with the insurance company, myself and this front office individual to verify that I did not need a referral. I was very pleased with the care and professionalism of PA, Linda Myers and subsequently made an appt with my regular derm for a yearly check at a later date. I was texted several times to confirm this appointment. However, the day before the appointment I received a call from them explaining that my appointment would need to be rescheduled that my doctor did not accept my insurance but that I could meet with Dr. Orlick instead the following week. I explained that I didn't understand, that this is one office and one doctor accepts different insurance than others? Plus my husband had visited their office a few months ago to see her and there was no issue. She then assured me that I could indeed meet with my regular doctor but that I would have a meet and greet with Dr. Orlick. Huh??? Why?? We had gone from not being able to see my doctor to yes, I can see my doctor but I needed to meet with another doctor first...it all made no sense. I told the office individual that either there was a definite training issue here or something underhanded was being attempted. I cancelled the appointment completely and will seek care elsewhere. Unfortunately, I've lost a dermatologist that I really liked. read more

I moved from out of state and needed to establish care with a local dermatologist for Psoriasis that I have had my entire life. I saw Karin Myers, PA-C who was wonderful! She was very patient and thorough going over my medical history, etc. She was shocked that none of my previous Dermatologists had provided me with medication options beyond topical treatments for my Psoriasis. She took time to explain each medication, the potential side effects and interactions with other medications, food, alcohol, etc. After doing so we determined which medication we felt would be the best option for me. I truly felt like we were working as a team, and she wasn't just trying to pressure me into taking a specific medication. The medication we felt would be best needed a pre authorization from my insurance, which she sent in right away. I received a denial letter from my insurance and was very disappointed. I thought I would need to call Ms. Myers to see what other options I may have. Before I even got around to calling her, I got a copy of an appeal she submitted to my insurance! She wrote a very compelling letter on my behalf, explaining why this medication is the best option for me and why they needed to reconsider the denial. I have never had a doctor be so proactive and advocate for me like she has! I am still waiting to hear the final decision from my insurance provider, but regardless of the outcome, I am extremely grateful for Karin's efforts and will continue seeing her for all my dermatology needs. read more

I overstretched and tore one of my ears, leaving me no choice left other than to have to repaired and closed up. The doctor and his assistant, Mellissa, were so great! I had a worrisome skin issue and this place was recommended by somebody I trust. As soon as I walked through the door the staff was responsive and welcoming. Karen Myers was my PA that provided my care. She was very professional, knowledgeable, comforting, and kind. The treatment I received was thorough and unrushed. She listen to, and addressed every concern I had. I understand how stressful the work and time limitations can be when there is a full schedule of patients. I don't think I've ever been to any medical care facility either as a patient or a nurse where I have seen such a high level of professionalism, respect and care by every single staff member I encountered. read more

I came in to receive an otoplasty (ear surgery) and having my first procedure with only local anesthetic, I was very nervous. However, Dr. Olson accommodated my needs and took all the time I required to feel ready. The procedure was painless and I was happy with my results. I initially went to them for some lesions on my forehead which turned out to be precancerous cells. Even though I mentioned I'd had skin cancer in the past which was surgically removed, they never checked anywhere beyond my forehead. I recently went back after 18 months for the same problem, which is not unusual. This time it was a brief discussion about how it will always return and need treatment and then the PA proceeds to tell me that he can prescribe a cream which works a lot like efudex but is "better". He sends the script via fax to Walgreens and I go to pick it up to be presented with a bill for $2895 (yes, two thousand eight hundred ninety five dollars) because it's not covered by insurance and the PA wrote it for the brand name drug only. Obviously I declined the drug. I then researched what he had prescribed and not only is it "similar" to efudex, it is another brand name of efudex (Carac fluorouracil cream 0.5%). Same thing happened at my last visit, prescribed a "new" drug that was $800 per treatment which I also declined. This time I called my regular doctor, he called in generic efudex for $48 a tube. They are obviously pushing whatever the pharmaceuticals reps are pushing on them and providing them the benefits for. This is just wrong and part of what is wrong with our healthcare system. They should thoroughly check any patient with a history of skin cancer and then work with the patient on which treatment option is best and, most importantly, affordable. Instead, they push what will financially benefit them and the pharmaceutical company. I will make sure my referring physician is aware of this treatment and will obviously ask him to refer me to a different dermatologist and perhaps the practice will stop referring to them in general. Went here for a bothersome mole on my back and a wart on my ankle The PA burned the mole n gave me a numbing shot for wart n shaved it off! The bill to Medicare n secondary was over $600 my portion was $173 the wart came back n I called and they said not guaranteed n they would have to charge me same! The 2 procedures took less than half hour total! What a rip off!!!! read more

I have had to see the PA, Francisco Trejo, several times now, twice for a bad rash and again today for my annual skin check. He is knowledgeable, warm, friendly (great bedside manner,) and thorough. He also didn't roll his eyes or run screaming from the room when I mentioned natural medicine the first time I was in there, and said it was part of his upbringing. Highly recommended. Also, the front desk staff is fine and I never have had to wait long to get in, either to set up an appt or to get in once I've arrived for it. read more

Minus 5 would be my rating, if possible. Rudest front office staff I have ever encountered in any medical practice. This is coming from a patient that has multiple medical challenges and sees many specialist each year. Completely non-empathetic reception/front office staff. I asked to be helped by someone other than Manuel who spoke so softly and seemed to be asleep. He passes me to his obvious friend who was even more uninterested and condescending. The ultimate insult was "Michelle" ,I think, the supposed office manager who not only stood up for her unprofessional and out of line staff but actually told me to go elsewhere and hung up on me. Really, that happened. All due to the fact that I expressed concern over the visit not being covered by my HMO due to not having a consultation conducted before a cancer removal procedure. They obviously aren't interested in servicing clients with compassion and understanding. I filed a formal complaint with my health insurance company. read more

Don't go here!! Learn from my mistake. As another reviewer pointed out, the office staff is unbearable. They never return phone calls after leaving urgent voicemails. I'm going on week three of this nightmare with no end in sight. They didn't submit my paperwork to the insurance company and as a result I had to wait over a week longer to get crucial medication(Still don't have it) The assistant called to say there was something wrong with my blood tests but she, "didn't know what the test was checking for"... I recently had otoplasty (ear surgery) I was a little afraid because I was told it was very painful. Those of you who are thinking of having otoplasty go for it. The incision is sensitive but that is it. Dr Olson spent time explaining what he could do and I am super happy. I can now wear short hair or a pony tail. They are sincere and always quick to greet me the moment I enter, and apologize if I have to wait for even one minute if they are helping someone in front of me! Please do not waste your time going to this place! I went to them for skin tags and to get a prescription for an ointment for a rash on my skin. No prescription was called and when I inquired about it she said to get something at the drugstore. I asked why I would waste my time and insurance money for someone to tell me to buy something off the shelf at the drugstore. Then I guess they decided to call something in to the drugstore. They messed up and prescribed three different prescriptions. The drugstore said I declined the best one already and I never talked to anyone or declined anything. Then someone called me for their office and said the correct prescription was the strongest. By this time I did not believe a word Foothills Dermatology said!! I just told them to forget it!
