I asked a sales associate if Footlights price matched because I found the shoes my daughter needs for $24 less on a website. She told me no and that if I did not purchase the shoes from Footlights today she would charge me a shoe fitting fee. I asked how much and she said "I think $50". Her tone and demeanor were very unprofessional. I would not recommend shopping here. I will not be making anymore purchases at this store. They have lost a customer. read more

Back to school sale and other holiday sales throughout the year are helpful on the pocket for dancewear. Knowledgeable pointe shoe fittings. Some male dancewear available, but sizes can be limited. Nice selection of bags and other accessories. Friendly staff. I can be very busy during their sales and first weeks of new season, meaning you may have to wait outside to enter the store. Phone system is not the greatest, but staff will call you back. I have had mixed results with the online ordering, but the retailer has always rectified any confusion. Frequent buyers receive rewards points to use towards future purchases. So glad that this store is within 40 minutes of our house. read more

Waited outside in a line for over 40 mins with no explanation why we were not allowed in the store. Employees just came to the door every few mins and said we'll be with you when we can in a very rude manner. After finally getting in we were told to get sit and wait to be fitted for shoes. Before we were even finished the employee turned around and starting assisting someone else and never said a word after to us. We waited another 10 mins to pay. If there was any other store closer that sold dance shoes we would for sure never come back here. read more

Pros - They have a nice selection of dance-wear. The store was organized and clean. Back to school sale was nice. Cons - I can understand that dance schools must be starting up and it was additionally busy with the In the Street festival. However, the employee (never got her name, but she was in a purple shirt) helping us fit my daughter with tap shoes was less than pleasant. She was helpful in fitting my daughter and even gave us some options with sizes/styles, but she had the most irritated personality; like she didn't want to be there. I almost asked for another person because the other girls were really animated and pleasant with their customers. Like I said, I bet it was busier than usual, but even a smile would have helped especially since it was my 3 year old's first time getting shoes and she was so excited. Luckily she didn't notice the employee's annoyed attitude. read more

Very disappointed, showed up for point shoe fitting, as their phone system does not work I could not actually talk to a person, but my daughter needed point shoes so we made the 35 min drive anyway. They were busy and said they needed 10 min before they could do the fitting, totally make sense so I left my daughter there to do the fitting and ran across the street to the local cafe to get some food for my son and daughter. We returned after 40 min to discover they completely ignored my daughter for the entire time. She had not been fitted, they let someone jump the line and did nothing to help her In all that time. I looked around for one of the owners who was supposedly in the store or an employee but could not find anyone. I had a meeting back in Rockville so had to leave. 35 min to drive there, 45 min there and 35 min back, almost 2 hours and no point shoes. Phone system does not work, customer service is horrible. I drove 40 minutes to Frederick with my daughter so she could purchase her dance shoes. The store hours here are limited - they close at 5:30 on weekdays, are closed on Sundays, and are open on Saturdays only until 3:30. Because I work full-time, my only option is to come on Saturday, and with kids' activities, I was able to get there a half-hour before store closing. There was a line outside and they were deciding when to let people into the store. An employee working the line came over multiple times to passively agressively get us to leave, but I said I drove a long way and the store doesn't close for another 30 minutes, so I would wait to see if could get in. After waiting almost a half-hour there were only 2 customers in that line; both of us had been in the line since 3pm - so this is not a situation where we showed up a few minutes before closing. Five minutes before closing we were informed that we would not be let into the store. Given that this is a dance store and this is likely their biggest week of sales the week before dance classes start in the DMV, you would think they would extend hours or, at the very least, not turn away the ONLY two customers left in the line who had been waiting. Because they did not let us into the store, they lost out on a sale of three sets of dance shoes and a customer who would have come every year to purchase those shoes. I will drive even further to a different store to avoid coming back to this one. read more

I have been going to footlights for years for all my dance wear and throughout those past years the service was mediocre, I've been looked past and down and did not say a thing. But my most recent experience will be my last! The employees are some of the rudest I have encountered, I guess if you do not have the right skin color then proper service is not guaranteed. Went in for ballroom shoes which are relegated to a small corner- the store was empty but I still waited about 20 minutes for one of the 4 associates on the floor to help me. Two girls came in after I did to look at ballet slippers and received immediate service. I pulled 6 different styles and they didn't have a 10 in any of them, of the 6 styles one 9.5 was available and one 11. The offer to order an additional size was not presented to me, I WAS told that their other location mostly only carries super high heeled salsa shoes. read more

I love this store. It may be more expensive than some online retailers but the knowledgeable and helpful staff is worth its weight in gold. Whenever I shop here, there are enough people working that I've never had to wait for personal help. The employees all seem to have dance experience or at least they are well trained in fitting dance shoes and they know their products. They even have a section for boys. Came here hoping to get ballet slippers for my daughter. We were there for 10 minutes with just a few other customers and no one talked to us. Random size selection on little girl leotards, really couldn't find anything that wasn't too big or too small (my daughter is a 5/6. Price's seemed ok on some items, way too high on other things. I'll just buy online I guess. Not worth time to get to it and park around back for no customer service. If you want a successful "local" shop, customer service is a must! read more

I have been to so many Dancewear stores over the years, and I do have to say that Footlights is one of the best Dancewear stores in the country. The store is very clean, has an amazing selection of products. From what I have seen I would honestly say that all of the staff in the store tend to customers right away and always with a smile. I would recommend Footlights to any dancer. Why would someone go online to find something just a couple of dollars cheaper? Do you guys realize that by saving $2, you are taking money out of your community? When people buy their Dancewear online, their studios will stop getting support from the local stores as they wound have any extra cash to place an ad in your nutcracker program, your parents will not be able to run in and buy a pair of tights, you will not be able to get that perfectly fitted pointe shoe... because the store will not be there without your support. read more

This was my first experience here. The store was very busy so maybe the woman who helped us was just tired, but the service was poor. We needed 3 pairs of shoes for different dance classes and the saleswomen seemed annoyed by that. When my daughter was trying on, she told us she would not get down to feel her toes because she was tired of getting up and down. Each time she needed to go in the back to get another size she was irritated and complained that they were too busy. Really disappointing customer service. I showed the young lady sizes for my two girls for ballet and tap shoes from my phone. For my older girl, she needed 11C for ballet slippers...she only has 11B and she said it should be fine...I said oook...Then she said that they delivered shoes to DCDC a month ago...I was like oook what's the point? But she also wasn't telling the truth because open house was on the 23rd of august and they took orders for shoes then so it hadn't been a month. After discussing all the shoes for my girls I said so you have three of four shoes, right? Then she's like, what do you mean 3 out of four...you didn't show me that...I was like uh yes I did...I was frustrated by this point and she was blaming me for being upset...I was shocked...I ended up buying the shoes but in hindsight because I drove 30 min to get here, but in hindsight I should have just walked out...her quality of customer service is unacceptable. read more

This is the place to go for pointe shoes or any other dance shoes or attire you may need. For those of us in Montgomery County, it is DEFINITELY worth the drive to Frederick. The owner and staff are all extremely knowledgeable about fitting shoes properly, and will gladly have your dancer try on every shoe in the store (if need be) to find the best fit. The pointe shoe selection is vast. At Footlights they care about the comfort and safety of the dancer more than making a sale. read more

We enjoy our shopping trips to Footlights. The staff are usually very helpful, and my one daughter is very difficult to fit. They are NOT more expensive than shopping on line. Right now I need a pair of pointe shoes and they are $9 cheaper at Footlights than at Discount Dance, and, there's no shipping. I love the personal service and being able to 'try before I buy'. I would agree that they could do some better staff training and they could be a little quicker with their responses. They are very laid back. But overall, when wanting to support a local business, this one earns my money. Local businesses provide jobs and pay taxes in our community. Plus, when you're on your way to a performance and realize you need tights - no one is going to be able to get them shipped to you that moment. So I went to footlights to get some ballroom shoes. The woman asks me my size and style I need. I say no specific style. I'll give you the ones I like. I sit, facing the shoes and tells me I should turn around and face her so I can try on the shoes whee she can help..(I didn't need help buckling the shoes) She goes and gets the 3 choices one at a time. Can you just get me the shoes at once? Well you should try a pair..rule them out then I'll get another pair. I say..I'm pressed for time. But I'd like to get a few at a time. Then she says I'll just go back to pulling you all the shoes in your size. All styles that were horrible. Sigh.. One past pair..I like..I show her. Without looking, "No we don't have those in." When will you have more. She says when they are gone they are gone. Well how do I get them? Can I order them. She says " I can see if they are at our other store. The other girl looks them up and says we have that size in this store. Unfortunately, they didn't fit... But I'm so confused why this was so difficult. Did I do something wrong?
