The staff are friendly and so helpful. One of the staff recommended a leotard brand that fits me so well and went to the back several times to find different sizes, colors, or styles for our small group. Thank you! They have a comfy couch seating area for those waiting on dancers trying on dancewear and an adorable play area for little ones. The dressing rooms have plenty of space and great mirrors too! With stores that offer expert pointe shoe fittings and solid stock being increasingly rare, Dance Supplies offers both, providing thoughtful care in finding the right shoe with just the right fit (and, as young dancers' feet change and as they grow professionally, those needs change, too). We have always been treated with welcome and kindness, and though I might otherwise grumble about driving from DC up to Severna Park, the fact that we know we'll get professional-level care means that we wouldn't think of going elsewhere. Very busy business. The staff (a lot of younger people) were super helpful and polite. My daughter was starting a ballet and tap class, so we needed the basics. The staff were helpful finding shoes that fit appropriately, for her, tights, and a leotard. Everything is expensive (to me) these days. The selection was very good, though. My daughter didn't seem to have to settle for something. She got the leotard in her size that she actually liked. I found this company online looking for a product I needed quickly, as a competing company failed to get my order out on time. So, I took a risk and ordered an item from Dance Supples last minute on a Wednesday and I needed it by that Friday, or no later than Saturday afternoon of that week. Well...the risk was worth it. My item arrived quickly (and I live in New Mexico). Another plus side is I didn't have to pay a bunch of extra money to express ship the same item as I did with the competing company that is closer to my home. A great local business! The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The new store is stocked and spacious. The prices are a bit higher than what I've found online, but there's something to be said for getting the right size the first time and not having to worry about the hassle of a return (this happened to me last year when I ordered tap shoes). The former location always had everything we needed, but it was difficult to navigate with clothes and shoes all crammed together. The layout of this store is loads better. You can easily browse and find what you need. I've been in twice now, and both times, I was greeted warmly upon entering and helped immediately. So, I had to write a review because my experience was outstanding. Went to shop on a Saturday (the store is 90 minutes away) so we called ahead. Knew it would be busy since several girls from the class were getting pointe shoes that weekend. Four sales staff, which is a lot for a small store, were their to help. A large stock of both sizes and brands allowed the staff to try about a dozen different shoes for my daughter's first pointe shoes. This took about 45 minutes. The staff interacted with each other, checked each other's fitting, and really made the effort to find the best fit. The shoes were returnable if the Dance Director didn't approve, but that was not a problem for us. Great experience. Had to write this review because our service was so outstanding. Read the negative reviews and can only conclude it was the customer, not the store. Our experience was excellent. We will be return customers. read more

Beautiful store but they are not accommodating. Forgot a coupon and described it and said could bring it back and would not give me the discount. Also gave me an incorrect item and when brought back 2 days later they said it was nonreturnable. They know they are the only dance place and dont treat their customers good. Love this store for all of my daughters dance needs. They have a fabulous selection, a great rewards program and friendly staff. We tend to see the same salesperson Becca when we come in. She is very knowledgeable and always enthusiastic about new products. She makes quality suggestions and really listens to the customers needs. Any dance parent or dancer knows how difficult it is to find the perfect fit for shoes. On multiple occasions (for different types of shoes) Becca has taken the time to allow my daughter to try on multiple styles and sizes walking her through the benefits of each shoe with some much patience. I don't usually post on business pages...but in this instance i will definitely make an exception. Let me start by saying I have never ever had such blatantly, horrible customer service in my life!!! I cannot express to you how deplorable the customer service was. This place had been recommended by my daughter's dance teacher. So i said why not! I called the store earlier to put 2 dance outfits on hold since the dance store closest to me did not have it. The young lady on the phone said she'd hold the outfits until close of business. She never disclosed what time they closed. I figured since it's the holiday season, it would be around 8 or 9pm. So i picked up my daughter and drove 45 minutes to the Severna Park location only to find the doors locked. My daughter and i saw that the young lady was still inside, so we knocked on the door. Thinking she didn't see us i knocked again. Not only did she look at us and ignore us, she also continued to wipe the mirrors as if we weren't there. So my daughter knocked one more time. The girl then looked at us again, walked to the back and turned off the lights in our faces. Listen, I've worked retail and still work in customer service now. I totally understand her initial trepidation. Someone knocking on the door after closing....what could they possibly want. Here's the major issue....besides all the callousness that she exhibited during the whole ordeal....THERE WAS A CHILD PRESENT and IT IS THE HOLIDAYS!! If i would have behaved the way she did, I would have surely been reprimanded or worse! If she had taken the time to come to the door (not open it) just approach it...I would have asked her to keep it on hold until tomorrow morning and i would've picked it up before work. Secondly, i drove 45 minutes because my daughter needed it for tomorrows rehearsal and Sundays performance at church. Third of all...Is this what Dance Supplies, Etc represents?!? Needless to say my daughter was very dissapointed and i had to explain that that is not how responsible adults behave. I will make it my business to contact the corporate office. Not only did you lose a customer, but you've now gained a reputation as a company who cares more about profit than it's customers. Again, i would rather be allowing my daughter to try on her leotard and palazzo pants than typing this post. However, i did not get that opportunity. What i will do is warn my friends and family about this company, that location and the horrendous customer service. I expected much more, especially during the Christmas holiday. I went to order 8 pairs of pointe shoes and Amazon only had three in the stock. This store accepted my order of 8 pairs so I cancelled my previous order from Amazon. I received an E-mail in the next day saying they only had one pair of shoes in stock and they would charge me for S&H. The problem is that Amazon no longer has these shoes. I was told by Beth, who is the store manager that the website doesn't show their inventory information and I have to take responsibility. read more

We bought a pair of lyrical shoes online. They did not fit and appeared much smaller than the actual size. We were told that we had to pay to return them. We did this even though it did not seem right to have to do this when the sizing seemed inaccurate. They processed the return for the amount we paid minus their initial shipping. We called and they said the sizing is the manufacturer's issue, not theirs. They would not refund us the initial shipping charge. We paid $9 in the end and received no shoes from them. read more

I'm a long time customer of Dance Supplies Etc...and have never had an issue that wasn't resolved. Some of the reviews indicate the inexperience of the staff. Quite a few of the staff are young. However, they're also usually dancers. I like that they employ young artists. This does mean that the customer may have to be a bit more engaged in shoe fittings. But that's no different than buying street shoes for a child - you always make sure they fit right/well. You'll need to do the same here vs. leaving it all to the fitter. Pointe shoe fittings can be tricky, but we've always brought my daughter's instructor with us to ensure she's communicating directly with the staff as they fit. To date we've never had an issue. If you can't bring your child's instructor than asking as many questions as you can may help decrease issues. Pointe shoe fittings isn't much of a science since it's based on input from the dancer to the fitter and vice versa. Twice we got a horrible pair of pointe shoes. They broke down immediately and were useless. The store, seeing how unusual that was, replaced the shoes with no problem. They've always been friendly and willing to work with us. We've been tempted to try other stores farther away but the convenience wins out. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. This dance store has the absolute most inconsiderate staff I've ever dealt with. Coming from two hours away, and being long time customer, I called ahead and asked if they could stay open for literally one extra minute as my gps said I'd arrive 1 minute after closing. They told me they don't get paid to stay late and they'd be locking the door right at 4. After getting there at 3:59, the door was locked and the answering service on. I will never again go back. Don't call asking about what they have in stock, because they clearly don't know themselves. I called and asked if they had CAPEZIO pink canvas piroutettes in an adult medium and they went to check, came back to the phone and said "No but we have them in leather" I said "so you have the CAPEZIOS in leather but not in canvas correct?" She says yes. I drive out here and they bring me a pair of brownish looking ADAGE turners and I tell them that they aren't CAPEZIOS (which fit my daughter foot better) and she proceeds to tell me they don't have them... Ummmm I JUST called and SPECIFICALLY ASKED YOU 15 min ago and I SPECIFIED that I needed CAPEZIO! She then goes on to say that CAPEZIO doesn't make a piroutette like that and I tell her that they DO because my daughter has them and that I JUST called and was told that they had then in stock. Clearly not knowledgable! I won't be coming back. I'll just take the drive out to Dance Supplies Etc in Severna Park instead... Worth the trip. read more
