The first pair of shoes I bought here didn't work out and were causing my feet to have issues with ingrown nails and just pain in general. I brought them back and Barbara was able to help me find a pair that are really comfortable for my feet as well as some insoles that actually work. I have always hated insoles but she showed me some that stay in place and provide great support for my super high arched feet. She explained a bit about the brands and overall left feeling like the product fit my foot and was great quality. read more

My wife has been a loyal customer for many years at Footwear, ect. After our walk, yesterday my feet hurt, so of course had to see what men's shoes could help my aching feet. Walking into Footwear in Encinitas and being greeted by an unknown voice that said Welcome so we felt comfortable being there. The store was very busy, so we started out looking on our own. Shortly after, a young lady who quickly answered my questions professionally and quickly. She appeared to have support from others that worked in the store. I asked are you the manager she replied yes I am. Now I understand why. Her name is Kendra Waller. That is the reason for this review. Kendra has such calm under pressure, handling many of the customers moving from one to another. Extremely knowledgeable about many of the brands of shoes. I am always asking questions so I can learn what options I have when I make a purchase. I speak up. My orthopedic MD suggested different shoes and gave me a referral to Footware etc. My first pair - what the Dr ordered - didn't work for me. They were rocker bottom. I returned them to the store a few days later and we found the perfect shoe that served the same purpose for helping my foot and toe issue. I had the same salesperson both times and he really knows the inventory. He was so helpful and patient. I spent an hour there each time. I got some special insoles too that help as well. I got great service and recommend this store. P S I tried two other orthopedic shoe stores while I was deciding about returning my first pair. This review is long overdue...Have recently returned to Footwear Etc. as my right foot has multiple issues and looking at a future surgery which I don't want anytime soon. Went in last week to Footwear Etc. and Jay was amazingly helpful. He spent a lot of time listening, and then helping me with what I thought I needed. His suggestion was far better than my original plan. Have tried over 50 shoes by shopping online, only to return them as they hurt my foot. Jay has dealt with many people's foot issues and understands how important shoes are in overall health. I have been wearing shoes that Jay suggested today, and believe I may get to go to the zoo with family soon. Until this point, I couldn't even make it to the grocery store. I was looking for good walking shoes for travel. I visited a specialty store in Old Town and got no service and no information. Then I went to the Encinitas location of Footwear etc and found Kristy. She greeted me promptly and asked what she could do for me. She knew everything about every shoe in the store - the unique benefits and limitations of each brand and style. She also knew how to tie the shoe laces to give additional support or stretch. My friend and I got several pairs of shoes and Kristy facilitated the order of one on backorder. O.K. Folks I'm on a roll. We went to this store recommended by my foot doctor and was helped by a really nice guy, Jay. We went for tennis shoes for my wife and left with sandals that fit her better and more comfortable for her than tennis shoes. We are both type II diabetics and this chain has great reviews along with the strong recommendation from our Doctor. Jay was both extremely knowledgeable and helpful in fitting her with the right style footwear. I can't say enough how impressed I was with their service and large selection of footwear available. I love this store and have bought many shoes there. Yesterday I went in to redeem my coupon . They were busy with two customers as they are often are. The difference was I have always been greeted when I come into the store. I hung around a little picking up a few pairs of shoes to try on, but no one ever acknowledged my presence or even said I will be with you in a few minutes. This store was a great find for me. I am on my feet at work for 10-12 hours each day so this store had a great selection of super comfortable and supportive shoes. I originally came in because they carried Dansko shoes. The customer service I received will keep me coming back. Laura was fantastic and very helpful. She even noticed the sandals I was wearing and told me they carried them even though they weren't on display. Plus they happened to be on sale. I would have never known otherwise. I dropped by here recently as- yes- my feet were killing me. Upon entering an employee greeted me with " Good Morning how can I help you"? Within 10 minutes I was standing in my shoes with orthopedics that felt liking walking on the clouds. We chatted a couple of minutes and the rep recommended I head across the street and discuss my needs with another Shoe Guy for a second opinion. I've always loved this store because I get the most comfortable, cute and quality shoes here. I went in yesterday to look for orthotics for an older pair of my NB walking shoes and met Rick. These have been the most supportive and comfortable walking shoes I've ever had but I had smashed down the orthotic due to daily wear for 2 plus years. I pulled out my old orthotic that came in the shoe and he knew immediately how I walk and what my feet needed to be comfortable. I have high arches and other small issues. He put in the perfect orthotic based on my specific needs and I was walking on a supported cloud again. I was going to toss my shoes but now I'll get more use out of them. I'm thrilled! Meeting Rick was like seeing a podiatrist. I've never met anyone who knew so much about feet. I bought a second pair of NB to alternate with and a comfy Dansco casual shoe. 5 stars for their "Return Policy" allowing you to wear their shoes for days, weeks or months & letting you return them in any condition. WOW! It's the only shoe store I know of where you can walk in with bare feet & try on $200 shoes. GREAT! I bought a pair of MBTs & wore them for 6 months then returned them. I've since bought 3 pair on EBAY! A-OK! 5 stars for good brands but 2 stars for styles. Use them to "Get Fitted" and try on as many pairs as it takes. "Comfort Shoes" take about 60 days to get used to so Footwear etc's "Return Policy" is FANTASTIC! read more

Just an update now 6 months later about my favorite shoe store. Rick is still fabulously fitting people with comfortable shoes that minimize or outright negate foot disorders. Just a note, if I sound like an expert, that's just because Rick explained things so clearly that I actually retained them!! No small task! My mom and I were in yesterday and Rick's challenge was to deal with her severe pronation (when your foot turns inward in spite of your ankle!). He whipped out a pair of appropriate orthotics (inserts that help your foot stay in the correct position) and my mom was walking better instantly. I think my favorite part of our visit (besides the really cute shoes) was that Rick carefully explained to my mom (no spring chicken) how to implement the orthotics and how to care for them and maintain them in their original condition. I think that's almost more important than the original purchase. Also, comfort shoes are an investment and Rick also went over making sure that the tongue of the shoe is truly in the middle and that the laces are tightened symmetrically all the way down to where they tie, not just yanked into position. My mom's balance and ability to stay upright depend on the shoes she is wearing and Rick's the best in the business at making sure that when we leave, we've got all the tools so she can do just that....stay upright and enjoy life. I stopped into this store today. There are some really nice comfortable yet trendy shoes in there but the salesman I interacted with was so rude. He asked me if my feet were clean! I am 42 years old and have never in my life had someone ask me such a rude question. I noticed he didn't ask another customer who also tried a display shoe on the same question. The only difference in the appearance of myself and this other customer is the shade of our skin, mine being a beautiful bronze which I wouldn't trade for the world. If 6 stars were possible, this store definitely deserves it for customer care! After suffering from Plantars Fasciitis for 2 1/2 years, my Scripps Podiatrist told me to go to this store to get the green insert. Upon changing all my footwear with-in a course of 2 months to the recommendations of the sale staff, my Plantars cleared up after 3 months. So needless to say, i only buy my shoes at this store. But that's only part of it! I went into the store today, needing some dress shoes for a sudden funeral, the staff was amazing! So helpful, so kind, went WAY beyond the call of duty. I tried on a dozen shoes, they made numerous calls on my behalf checking on sizes at different locations, and were so patient, thoughtful and caring. I can't RAVE enough about JAY (the manager at the Encinitas location!) WOW! I have had a stubborn foot/ankle injury and needed to find a very specific type of house shoe/slipper that has ankle support. Not an easy task! The days of walking barefoot in my house are over! Sigh! BUT Jay was so helpful, caring and resourceful in showing me only products that would truly help me. He went out of his way and made me feel like family! Truly! He had to order my size and told me he'd personally follow up with me the very next day, which he did. I will only shop at Footwear Etc. now. Save yourself the time and aggravation of shoe shopping, especially if you have ankle/foot issues. I wear my stylish yet super comfy Tempur-pedic house shoes (with a really unique orthotic that Jay also suggested to provide further support to my heel and ankle.)
