A fun place to shop, but their recent changes are a step back not forward. For Garden's Sake is the place where most people go to get a dose of fall injected into their veins by going to buy pumpkins, take some photos on a vintage pickup truck that's decked out in fall decor (pumpkins, hay, etc... you know the vibe). This place has become a somewhat notable instagrammable location in the triangle area thanks to the store's aggressive social media team. Last year my wife and I went with our little dog to buy some pumpkins and took some photos. It was a nice way to spend a quiet sunday. For Garden Sake has changed a bit due to either covid or just wanting to capitalize off of the foot traffic there. Some of the changes are nice, but mostly it feels a bit overly crowded now and trying to do too much now.  Since last year this place has really expanded and changed some things around so that the nice instagrammable spot isn't close to the parking lot, it's pulled back closer to the main garden building so you have to walk through lots of the plants and things to buy. I totally understand the change for business. It does make it tough to bring your dogs to this spot to take photos since they're just going to want to pee over every new plant they see. It's also set up so there's a fairly busy road in the background as opposed to a lake in the background like it was before. When we went there were a bunch of teens hanging out by the photo spot trying to get the best photo they could, and we even came back 15 minutes later and they were still there. The way foot traffic is funneled into that corner of the property is just a bad design change from last year and really should be retooled. There's a new spot where you can day drink, which is nice for those day drinkers. It's just a strange addition to a plant store. There's also a ton of staff members walking around with walkie-talkies and while they are helpful there's so many of them it feels like you're being watched.  This year was earlier than when I went last year and the pumpkin selection was pretty pathetic. I'm not sure if they add new ones each day but going at 2:00PM on a Saturday two weeks before Halloween you'd think there'd be a decent selection, but there wasn't. We bought some smaller ones but I was really disappointed there weren't any decent large pumpkins to buy. Maybe they refresh the stock each morning but I was really surprised at how bad the selection was compared to last year. This garden center is still very nice but it's just trying to do too much now. The last thing I want to encounter while buying plants is people day drinking. I get that the owners are trying to make this place an attraction during covid and especially during fall, one of their busiest seasons but it feels so slapped together that it loses a lot of what made this place special in the first place. I'm still going to shop here but I really hope they tone things down next year and embrace what made this place so special and ease up on the gimmicks. read more

They've doubled their houseplant selection which is really cool. They had some rarer plants and now that renovations are complete there's WAY more space and plants which is cool. Also the outdoor plants and trees etc have a wide variety, theres QR codes which offer info on different plants and the staff are super helpful and excellent (although sometimes they ask me if I need help when I'm just trying to browse). Would be nice if there were even more native plants but there's a good selection and they seem to be adding more. 10/10 will be back again to take classes (theyre $10 I think) read more

The design process has been such a great experience. Doug has been very responsive and helpful. When we were unsure of what exactly our "vision" was he provided direction. He adjusted the scope of the project to fit our budget and was never pushing us to spend more. Doug is very knowledgeable and talented and I wholeheartedly recommend him as a designer! We've driven by this place many times when going to and from Southpoint, but we only recently went in. We didn't know what we were missing! Driving up the lane, we were immediately charmed by the goats at the miniature petting zoo. One of them smacked his lips at me, and I'm sure they're used to being fed by visitors. The shop was also charming, with lots of indoor plants and decorations. They even have an area where you can make your own terrarium, which is great for kids! The outside area was well organized and labeled with lots of perennials, annuals and other materials like manure and mulch. We were doing research for our landscaping, and the associates had lots of information for the best plants in our yard. read more

My husband and I went to their last For Friday's Sake extended event which had live music, a food truck and drinks for the Potting Shed. As if going to a garden center wasn't fun enough, if you add entertainment and wine spritzers it's basically a DREAM COME TRUE for any plant parent. We got three new plant babies while we were there. All of the plants were in great condition and there is an impressive variety of houseplants in various sizes, all fairly priced as well. I can't wait to return soon! read more

This will now be the only garden shop I will go to! When I saw the name of this place and was looking to pick up some plants I knew I needed to check this place out. First, this place has goats and lamas and they are very, very friendly! Second, all of the plants and trees are organized in specific locations depending on if they are indoor or outdoor plants and by how much sun they need. This makes picking out the best plants for your space so much easier! Inside the shop there is an abundant amount of succulents and they even have place to make your own terrarium. Visited on the afternoon of Nov 21. What a lovely setting for such a serene garden. We went straight to the goats and they were so sweet. They came to us and were so friendly. All they wanted us to do is pet them. There was also 3 chickens within the same enclosure. We headed to the Christmas trees and they were so perfect and symmetrical. We could have stayed there all day just smelling those trees. read more

We love FGS and appreciate the fact that it is so close to us. We are there many times each season for healthy, beautiful plants, fertilizer, potting and garden soils, house plants and gorgeous, unusual pots and containers. The classes they offer are very worthwhile and informative. I've learned how to make beautiful container gardens, AND how to maintain them. This is my second project with FGS. The first one was to build a low maintenance, full Sun garden in my backyard plus the south side of the house in July 2020. I loved the design, the plants picked, and the workmanship during the installation. So that I invited the team back to design a shaded garden on the north side of my house. The crew did a great job from the designing, augmenting my irrigation system, and installing trees, shrubs, and some interesting perennials. Many neighbors had told me how beautiful it looked. I stumbled upon this wonderful haven on a back road trip on my way home to SC. I am so happy that I stopped. A stellar employee by the name of John took me under his wing to show me all the great options they had for some of the challenging spots in my yard. He was amazingly patient and knowledgable, and in the end, I drove my 4 hours back home with my car loaded with treasures! The edenic setting itself is worth the trip. All the staff were knowledgeable and friendly. We loved the spaciousness and that everyone wore masks and stayed socially distant. I felt there were plenty of staff around but they didn't pressure me or make me feel intruded upon. We were left to browse comfortably, yet when we showed interest in a particular plant, staff materialized to give us tips or history. I love this place... because it's very close to our house, and I can't help just popping in. Their variety is decent. Not amazing, but above average. Everything I've gotten from here has been extremely healthy. I also have a habit of browsing the "sale" plants at every nursery. I got some really cool crape myrtles last fall for 50% off... they are looking great this spring! They have just about any standard you are looking for: Knockout Roses, Encore Azaleas, camellias, nice perennial flowers, and tons of trees. Also on the property is a farm, maybe? There are all kinds of birds around a lake, llamas... and more. It's nice to walk around, but be careful, because many of the areas are very muddy! Most importantly, the staff is always very friendly! Their prices are pretty average. I kinda use Knockout Roses as the price average comparison for all nurseries (uh, if they don't carry Knockout Roses, then it's NOT a nursery. Even KROGER has them). So KRs at For Gardens Sake are $20, and for comparison, at Lowes/Home Depot, I think they are $17? So for $3 more, I'd much rather support a friendly local business :) read more

This is a wonderful place to go for plants, shrubs, and trees. On the weekends, they have had live music and food trucks. This is not just shopping; it's a fun outing! Their potting shed is open on the weekends too, serving beverages, including adult beverages! Highly recommend! read more

The selection for flowers here wasn't very deep, but they have a lot of shrubs and small trees. There also were some nice clay pots if you're looking to make a planter. The staff was helpful with recommendations (we needed plants that would do well with lots of shade). The layout is kind of all over, but things are well marked. I don't know much about price comparison, but things seemed reasonable. We'll definitely stop back for more next spring (assuming the things we plant this year take well!) If you're coming from the north (Durham), know that the entrance comes quickly after you come around the curve on 751. It's just south of the Durham/Chatham county line, so slow down and put your blinker on (right turn into the parking lot)! read more

So happy my best friend showed me this gem of nursery/gardening everything destination! I was blown away by their selections on all levels of all things green! I left with a beautiful Jade plant and Aloe plant! So looking forward to visiting soon! The property is beautiful, and a great destination for a family outing, just relaxing all the way around. Their Pot Plant building is the last destination to find the right pot for your new-found plant(s). bought a plant on sale that was listed as a summer plant that needed to free up space for new plants . brought it home to find out it's infested with pests and mold . I try to get a refund but it's impossible for them to make that happen . was only asking store credit but i guess they would rather lose a customer than a couple dollars . extremely high prices with awful customer service . Best garden center around! The plants are gorgeous! Trees so healthy and strong. The place is filled with folks ready to help you in every way possible. It is very clean. Masks on everyone. Their classes are fabulous! Treat yourself to one and discover all there is to learn about gardening. This is a little gem tucked into 751 on the Chatham/Durham county line. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY FOR LANDSCAPING. Over the course of the year, I sent repeated emails regarding my concern about the yard and was consistently dismissed. My last email to the owner, Scott, was returned with an offensive and belittling reply. It is shocking to me what little regard this company has for customer service and ownership of their work (or lack of). The pictures attached show my grass before this company started working for me and after.
