Advise to the owners...plant a few more trees or shrubs out front for a little more seclusion/intimacy. You have an amazing place, take advantage of that!!! The gray house at the west end of town is easy to miss, but don't. the pizza is very good--the wood-fired crust with the right amount of char and crust, rich cheese blend and quality toppings. Okay, for perspective, I've worked in the industry for most of my adult life, so I am generally extremely understanding about pretty much everything, and frankly had already prepared myself for a rocky experience just due to it being a holiday weekend. Placed an order online, both me and my honey were so excited to see a romesco calzone, as we both love that sauce and you don't see it very often, so we ordered 2, plus a Caesar. We show up at our order pickup time, and it's very quiet and slow, which I'm thankful for as I hope it means the staff had a more mellow day after what I'm sure was a crazy weekend. All is well until we get home and start to eat our calzones. No sauce to be found in either? I think towards the end of his my boyfriend had a bite he said he could almost taste some romesco in? I understand if light sauce is what you're going for, but there needs to be enough for it to be slightly detectable in the food. Why wouldn't you spread it over the entire interior? I'm just so confused and disappointed. not a lot of cheese to be seen either??? Just unseasoned spinach, poorly cooked bacon that clearly hadn't been properly rendered before use in the calzone, and wayyy too much bland dough that wasn't cooked all the way through. I'm upset because we spent over $40 for 2 calzones and a salad, and my boyfriend literally just pushed the toppings in his to one bite, and ate the rest as plain bread, as that was the only way it was worth eating. I was so excited to support a new restaurant and I'm honestly just sad at how awful my food was. My partner suggested maybe it was just the wrong guy in the kitchen, but frankly if you have anyone in your kitchen that is comfortable sending out food of that quality under your businesses name, I would seriously consider making some staff changes. I'm all for supporting local businesses and giving second chances, but this was one of the worst experiences with food I've had in a long long long time, which is really saying something, because I had winco brand mac and cheese for lunch last week. The only reason this is a two star rating is because I really hope that this was just a one time goof, and the Caesar was fine, but that's literally all I can say about it. Probably best to stick the pizza here. The dough is wonderfully chewy and all the pies taste pretty good. They do used a wood-fired oven so expect to see parts of your pizza completely burned black charcoal. Can't be helped. We tried the tri-tip beef but it was tough as heck and tasty mealy like liver. We ended up feeding a lot of it to our dog. Suspect the meat was not fresh, maybe they don't move a lot of it. The veggies with it were quite good. The salads are below average - mostly just single lettuce and not a lot else. Ours was sort of wilted by the dressing. Soggy. Overall, this place is above average for Newberg but below average for the greater area. Service and ambiance are fine. read more

We traveled out to Newberg to see an old Culinary School friend Kris, who runs Forage Cafe. It was my first trip out and we are planning on making it a regular dinner outing after our experience. The wood fired pizza with house made fennel sausage was simple, clean flavors and cooked perfectly. The butter lettuce salad was also simple, balanced, well dressed and a deliciously fresh start to the meal. The artichoke dip was the first I have had that was not overly cheesy and completely dairy dominated. The flavor was clean, tasted like artichoke, was fresh and a delight with the pita bread. We ended with a strawberry shortcake that was simple and divine. The ingredients each carried their own weight and put together a refreshing, light not over sugared bite until it was gone. Kudos to Chris, his food is properly done without being complicated and at the same time, you can taste the thought, experience and care that comes with each locally sourced dish. The atmosphere was cozy and comfortable, the service and timeliness of the food completed what we found to be a very nice, affordable foody adventure. Highly recommend. read more

This restaurant has been on my mind since they opened. I drive by this unique establishment 5 days a week on my way to work. I finally ordered pizza to go today, and I wish I had decided to dine in. There is adequate outdoor seating but the indoor space is fabulous! Had I known, rather than call ahead I should have dropped in, ordered a cocktail while waiting for my food to be prepared, enjoying the ambience. The pizza is fabulous! Our first time trying out Forage tonight. What a delightful find here in Newberg. The dining area is really cute and have tables inside and outside. Very cozy and comfy and welcoming. The service was very nice, friendly and pleasant. Oh but the food!! Everything is so fresh! My hubby and I ordered the risotto and the salami pizza. The risotto was heavenly! Very cheesy, great flavor and the texture perfect! I could not stop eating it. The pizza was delish! Wood fired and fresh dough perfect thin crispy crust. It is not smothered in sauce but it was so flavorful! We had the salami olive pizza. I think I found my new favorite pizza place. Love that it is owned by locals and was built for locals according to the owner. So nice to have a quality dining spot here in Newberg. We just came here for dinner after wine tasting for my sister's bachelorette party and had the most disappointing dining experience. The restaurant had 2 people in it when we arrived and we waited nearly an hour for our food to come out - and the pizza came out cold. When we mentioned the cold pizza, the waitress said "that's interesting" and offered to remake them but we didn't want to wait another hour so, we ate the cold pizza. We asked for Parmesan to sprinkle on help the taste of the cold pizza and we were unknowingly charged $4 for it. While we were eating, the waitress accidentally sprayed me in the face with water from across the room while cleaning glasses-she didn't apologize or bring me a napkin just laughed and said "oops, did I get ya?" It wasn't funny to me to wipe water off my glasses and face while trying to eat dinner. Before leaving, we asked to speak to the manager and that was a big mistake. The owner came out and I explained what had happened and he interrupted me to tell me that they don't normally accommodate parties of 8 without a reservation or do separate checks - basically trying to explain that we should be grateful to have had an opportunity to eat there, and enjoy their terrible food. If providing quality service and warm food is a problem for a restaurant owner - maybe they should reconsider owning a restaurant. If I could suggest anything, apologizing to a customer for their poor experience, rather than trying to tell them why it was their fault instead of yours is a good place to start. We had the "Almost Lasagne Pizza" and it was amazing. The atmosphere is good and service was friendly. The hours of operation are also way out of the norm from what I have seen in Oregon. We are from Arizona and typically everything is open till 11 at the earliest and many places close at 9 here. So it's great to see a place with food and drinks available a little later. read more

We ordered the Mary's half chicken and the Chicken and mushroom pizza - both were delicious! If you enjoy wood fired pizza, this place will not disappoint. The only reason for not giving a five star review was because the decor on the inside was a little mis-matched and distracting. It had farmhouse decor, bistro decor, modern decor and nothing that tied that all together. If you don't care about the "vibe" of the place, then Forage is highly recommended!
