Forbidden City is the best Chinese buffet in the Chattanooga area. The buffet is always well maintained and clean. It features fried scallops and a good variety of appetizers. The sushi is excellent and always fresh. I eat there almost every week! Also they offer a discount to seniors 65 and older. read more

Upon walking in, the place looked somewhat nice and homey. There weren't too many decorations and lights. We were quickly waited and went to get our food. Some of the food weren't labelled. You didn't really know what was inside some food. The food itself was alright, but not the best in my opinion with Asian food. I don't recommend eating the seafood such as shrimp and possibly the salmon because Tennessee obviously isn't near any water, so they weren't fished from the sea. One of the better Chinese buffets I've been to! When you drive up to this buffet, you know it's not just any buffet. The outside looks like a Chinese temple while the inside doesn't disappoint in decor either. A group of friends and I decided to stop here after building up an appetite from whitewater rafting the Ocoee. Food wise, they have all the standard buffet foods here and more. They do feature a hibachi which I tend to only see at bigger buffets. One thing I don't usually see is an egg as a choice at the hibachi. The sushi was pretty standard for buffets. The highlight for the sushi though is that they never came close to running low! The sushi chef was the fastest I've seen! Lastly, I only took off one star because I felt more rushed at this buffet than others. The restaurant is kept tidy from first look. IDK about the restrooms, but I feel like there needs to be some upgrading. Little things need to be done better like wiping down the tables and the plastic holders on the tables for the specials. Ours was nasty. It had food smudges all over it which ultimately makes me find it as a big deal. The food is good. I love the sushi choices. They have hardpacked ice cream flavors for dessert ready to be hand-scooped and several gelatins, puddings, cookies, etc. to enjoy. Best Asian Buffet in Chattanooga!!! They literally have everything for everyone. They have sushi, a make your own hibachi grill, all the usual Asian buffet usuals (stir fry, fried rice, lo mein, tempura, spring rolls, etc), salad bar, fruit bar, dessert bar, scoop your own ice cream bar, and they have pizza and French fries. I will say my favorite thing to do is go to the hibachi grill and custom make my own fried rice or lo mein rather then taking the pre-made one. We held large gatherings here before. They have several side rooms you can reserve for large parties. All we had to do was call several months in advance and you can reserve it. And now they have an online reservation form as well. Once they receive the form, they'll call to confirm your reservation or let you know if they can't do it. Just a heads up you can't reserve large parties on holidays. read more

I've been coming here for quiet some time. They have a pretty good buffet. I'm usually here early so It's nice and neat and clean. They do an excellent job of keeping the pans refilled. Their flavors are good and they have a very extensive sushi bar. They also have hibachi options as well as many desserts. Me and my husband came for a nice sit down meal, but instead we got shitty service and everyone that worked there were rude. My husband ordered the Bahama mama drink, he took the first sip and it tasted like straight alcohol, the 2nd sip was straight juice. The bartender/manager of the restaurant admitted he only poured the alcohol in the straw, which there was supposed to be 2 different types of alcohol. It was supposed to be rum and Bacardi in it, there was supposed to be 1 shot of rum and 1 shot of bacardi, but only tasted of a little rum. He drank a little more and wasn't feeling anything at all.This was not the 1st time that my husband has drank a cocktail/mixed drink, but does not drink them regularly, there for has less of a tolerance to alcohol and was stone cold sober. And when mentioned to the manager who was also the bartender, he straight admitted that he didnt put any alcohol in the drink but only a little taste in the straw, he said he would only give us a 2 dollar discount for the drink, which was 2 dollars off a 7 dollar drink that didnt even have any alcohol. As we talked to the manager, he repeatedly Interrupted my husband, and talked over him, and kepted asking when he was going to pay. When i had gotten up to get me some dessert, I came back with pudding and ice cream, I am currently in a knee brace for some serious knee problems, and our waitress saw this, when I was walking back to the table, 3 people were coming into the food area, along with another lady to my right, I let the group out, and went to move out of the lady to my rights way, but our waitress was impatient and shoved pass me, and was extremely rude the entire time to us, she would try to take my plates even though I was eating off of them, she snatched my cup and didn't come back for 10 minutes with it after she said she was going to refill it, and was just down right rude the entire time. We watched as she was being kind with a group of gentlemen that were of her same race, but was super rude to me and my husband who are white, and a black women at a table behind us. As far as Chinese buffets go, I love this place. They have a huge selection compared to many other buffets, and they keep the food fresh and warm. They also offer a hibachi grill where you can have your own meal made (my preference during flu season). The sushi bar is good and they make it fresh which is essential at a place like this. They'll make you anything you want and I always see someone cleaning which I love. Some of my favorite dishes are the egg drop soup, the broccoli chicken, and the honey chicken. I've seen that this place has only 2 stars and several negative reviews but I've been coming here for quite a while and never had a bad experience so far. I mean, it's Chinese buffet... I don't go there expecting fine dining. They have a decent selection. It's my son's favorite place to eat. And compared to other Chinese buffets in the area, I think that this one has the nicest atmosphere. Service is usually pretty good. I do agree with another reviewer... The hot and sour soup is neither hot nor sour. I'd probably stick with the miso. Also, you should probably be ready to use a bit of soy sauce and white pepper cause some of the foods can be bland. I think they had stuff for everyone, even non-Asian foods. Third, but most importantly for me, they had a lot of vegetarian and vegan options.
