Best bagels in NY. Live in the city but often travel to SI whenever anywhere near it to get their bagels. Owners always take care of me and give discounts ON TOP OF the free bagels. have never been disappointed. Everyone I know has tried one when I buy some and they all give me orders to place now. definitely worth the trip!

Was susposed to be egg whites with cheese. Came out like soup

I have came here for half my life, cause the bagels are good but lately,The service is BADD. I wish I wasn't saying this but the guys on the grill and the man who's working the register felt like the energy from an alley mugging. The guys are the pitts. also watch the register while he punches teds to have a heavy hand and then say oh I'm sorry I punch two times. Bagels are hard. I bet I'm not the only person who has watched this wonderful gem from my childhood, diminish and crumble into the ground as a business. Now I have to go else where.

Always friendly and fast! During my limited lunch hour, I have to grab something that is fresh and delicious. Boarshead deli meats, prepared foods, tuna salad, egg salad and the best chicken salad on Forrest Avenue. Snacks, candy and chips- nommm nommm!!! Bagels are always baked on premises - daily !! Sunday morning breakfast would not be the same without a dozen warm bagels. Most popular deli in the neighborhood, parking is easy and convenient. Management is responsive when customer has a concern, or questions about menu.

Oh yeah. Late night Island bagel fix.

I'm a big fan of the bagels here, and after 13 years since I moved, they're still amazing, even at 3:45am before the new bagels roll out at 4:30am (if you want them hot). I moved to NJ in 2003, and while the bagels there are also good, there is something about a Staten Island bagel at 3:45 am, eaten on the trunk of your car after a long night. Not sure why this old standby is rated so low, judging by my whole wheat everything with olive and pimento cream cheese, I'd say some of these Islanders are spoiled by 24 hour bagel joints, maybe if they moved to NJ where the bagel joints close at 4-6pm, they'd know how very good they have it.

I don't know if I'm allowed to swear on Yelp, so I'll do it in Vietnamese. These are some big du ma bagels. The only place I've seen bagels this big is the deficit (Get it? Because they're big @#$%ing zeros!). The bagels were so large that they were literally falling out of the trays and up against the glass. It looked like one of those coin games in the arcade where a token is dropped down a shoot and it moves other tokens off a ledge. They also had enormous muffins. The bagels were great - as bagels should be. The muffins are still sitting in the refrigerator because the bagels were so big I couldn't eat the muffins. They are a cash only place with a scuzzy looking ATM so bring money.

STARBUCKS WHO?! The Best Bagel Spot You Are Entirely Ignoring in the "Forgotten Borough."…read more Let's be honest for a second. We live in Staten Island. We know good food, but we also get set in our ways. We walk the same blocks, we drive the same avenues, and we mindlessly queue up in corporate drive-thrus for burnt espresso (or food) because it's "convenient." Well, I am here to officially staging an intervention. Two weeks ago, I was walking past the Dollar General, completely blind to my surroundings, zombie-walking my way back toward Starbucks. That is when I saw the sign for Poppy Seed Bagels. After a local native whispered absolute prophecies into my ear about a mythical "French Toast Bagel with Cannoli Cream Cheese," I knew I had to make the pilgrimage. I have lived here for almost a year. Why did none of you tell me about this place? Seriously, I need answers. Are we hoarding the carb secrets now?? Like c'mon, f'real???? lol The Vibe: Small Footprint, Massive Inventory. When you first walk in, the shop presents itself on a smaller scale, but every square inch serves a distinct, glorious purpose. To your left, an absolute wall of refrigerators spans the room. They have every liquid refreshment known to mankind: cold brews, espressos, energy drinks, sodas, and teas. If you can drink it, they have it chilled. The Ultimate Coffee Loophole As a "self-proclaimed" coffee fanatic, this is where I nearly lost my mind. You pay for a coffee. Just a coffee. And then? You pick whatever size you want. Let me repeat that for the people in the back. You pay one flat rate and you can walk away with a large. (like whaaaat?) We are strictly not talking Starbucks vibes here, nope--no siree. Then you hit the mixing station. I am a French Vanilla creamer devotee, and they had an entire lineup of premium flavored creamers, flavored shots (hazelnut, etc.), and a shaker of freshly ground cinnamon powder. *YUP* Shaking real cinnamon into a piping hot, perfectly brewed coffee felt less like a morning routine and more like a religious experience. Was I awake? Was I dreaming? Was I in coffee heaven? It felt way too magical to be in the "Forgotten Borough." The Main Event: The "Perfect Bagel" Look, I went in with one mission: get the French Toast bagel. Naturally, because the universe loves a plot twist, they were fresh out. The neighborhood hype is real, and the early birds caught the worm. Undeterred, I pivoted. I ordered a perfectly toasted sesame bagel slapped with that famous cannoli cream cheese. I snapped a picture, texted it to a friend, and captioned it: "The perfect bagel." Mind you, this wasn't even the French Toast flavor I came for! If a backup option can elicit that level of emotional texting, that alone speaks volumes. The bagel had that flawless crunch on the outside, a soft, pillowy pull on the inside, and the cannoli cream cheese--an absolute, pure, unadulterated delight. Sweet, creamy, and decadent. So delicious. While sitting there in a literal cloud of French vanilla, cinnamon, and sesame bliss, I watched the digital menu monitors loop videos of their special custom creations. Lox bagels, hot pastrami builds, and wild culinary concoctions that had me salivating mid-chew. I am already scheduling my next trip back specifically for the French Toast and, yeah, maybe the pastrami too. Why, not! Hospitality That Hits Different: A restaurant can have great food, but small businesses win our/my heart. The staff here is exceptional. The girls at the counter were incredibly welcoming and helpful. Furthermore, a tall gentleman who was busily cleaning the tables noticed that I have some trouble walking. Without me even asking, he took it upon himself to go up to the counter, grab my food, and bring it directly to my table. There are only a few tables inside, but that simple, proactive act of kindness transformed a quick breakfast into a memorable dining experience. The Verdict: Whenever I am in the area again and have to choose between corporate green-apron coffee or this local masterpiece? Ahem--excuse me---Starbucks who? This will now be my go to spot. I am a massive supporter of small businesses, and Poppy Seed Bagels is doing everything right. Hello---stop gatekeeping this place! People just got to know! :-) So... Go... Go support them, buy a giant coffee for the price of a small, and pray they have the French Toast bagel waiting for you---if that's your thing or not. ;-)
