Italian sub

Finally stopped by this little grocery today and I wasn't disappointed. My daughter and I were looking for a non chain sandwich shop and I remembered Forest Hills grocery. It is a small grocery that makes sandwiches and has a big dessert case. I ordered an Italian. A little pricey, but huge portions. The bread was fresh. The meat was fresh and the fixins were.....fresh. My daughter had a BLT, which was equally FRESH. Don't let the shopping center deter you. The sandwiches are great. They also have really good.looking Chef and Greek salads and Pressed Cubans. They do a huge to go buisness.

I stopped by Forest Hills Grocery because someone told me that the Cuban sandwiches were authentic. There was a long line at the deli counter and I was sort of in a hurry, so I grabbed one of the pre-made grab-and-go sandwiches that were stacked above eye level on the counter. I was in and out pretty quickly, but color me unimpressed. The bread was ok, but the ham was obviously of the cheaper variety and the cheese tasted processed. One of my pet peeves when ordering sandwiches is I DO NOT like for other people to put my condiments on. There was so much mustard and mayonnaise on the sandwich that it literally squirted out between the bread. I did kick myself for being in to much of a hurry to ask for my sandwich to be pressed. If I do try anther sandwich from Forest Hills Grocery, I will skip the pre-mades and be sure to wait in line with everyone else.

I'm 5 th generation in Tampa & at 62 yrs old this tired nurse knows a good Cuban & like always forest hills made a Cuban sandwich I can co-sign as one of the best! The customer service was stellar & when I called the phone was promptly answered. We've been coming here for decades & will continue as this sandwich was great!! As was my hubby's Italian sandwich.

It's a meat market in here; literally.

If you live close enough to use this place as your walking distance or "I don't want to drive all the way to Publix" grocery store, perhaps it's more like four stars from a convenience perspective. Or, if you visit during slow hours, perhaps three stars because their sandwiches use freshly sliced deli meat; not what Subway serves that's been sitting around for a day. Other than that, Forest Hills Grocery is the dictionary definition of inefficiency and lack of planning and management, so so prices, no real redeeming qualities. I live close by, so I tend to go in for lunch from time to time. Sometimes I just really want a deli sandwich so I suffer though this process. Their sandwiches are great from a deli meat perspective. They're fresh, typically they give you a pretty hefty helping and most sandwiches fall in the $5 to $7 range. They have hoagies too if you prefer a ton of bread. Where they fall short on a sandwich perspective is toppings; those are fairly limited outside of your common ones like lettuce, tomato, banana peppers, onions, etc. Garlic? No. Spicy mustard? Nope. Oil & vinegar? Nope. Jalapenos? Nope. They can toast the sandwiches though so there's that. Other than sandwiches, they do have a full assortment of essential grocery items like pasta, canned fish, soup, sauces, a very small assortment of produce, and a full selection of beef, etc. The place is not particularly clean, so your mileage may vary on whether your significant other drags you back out of the place. It's been there a long time and very clearly shows it. Sometimes you see less than ideal things, such as deli meat and cheeses randomly stacked on parts of the prep line you didn't expect to find them. Or sandwiches left in the press for five or ten minutes. Or pricing stickers applied across the part of the soda can you drink from, along with dirt. Now, here's what you need to know if you're ordering to-go at lunch time: 1) Plan to waste at least 20 minutes of your day from turning your car off to turning it back on. The reason for this is because the person who takes your order will handle your order from start to finish. There will typically be from three to six people performing this job function and they'll all be constantly stepping on each other and bumping into each other while trying to get at the same area of the prep line in very cramped quarters. For example, if one person has 20 of the same thing to make for a big order and they need an ingredient for each item from each of five places on the prep line, well, they're going to go up and down the line over and over getting those ingredients. The staff won't join together to put one thing on and pass it down to the next person; that would make way too much sense. Instead they'll create five times more work to ensure nothing gets done quickly. Also expect to hear them bitching about when their five minute smoke break is coming; apparently during lunch rush each employee gets a five minute smoke allocation to ensure they have enough nicotine to make it through till 1pm. 2) Once you're inside, the place has random hand written signs, printed signs, stickers and everything else scattered all over the counters, aisles, hanging from the ceiling, etc. Some of these may be important, so waste your time looking at all of them so you don't make the mistake of doing something you shouldn't and being forced to start over. 3) If you see patrons randomly standing around, they may be in one of three states; waiting to order, waiting to pay, waiting for food they've paid for. You'll have absolutely no way of knowing what state of progress these people are in, so you should ask or you could lose your place in the line that may or may not exist and may or may not be obvious. Look for people with plastic bags in their hands; those are typically the ones who have already paid. 4) About a year ago, they did add a hanging sign from the ceiling that says "Order Deli Here"; it only took them "32 years in business" (which the owner loves to mention) to add that sign, but because the line forms in front of the same counter you order meat from, you have no way of knowing if someone is or isn't in line for deli until you ask everyone reasonably close to the sign. 5) If you attempt to order from a location not near the deli ordering sign, there are three possible outcomes. A nice employee who knows there is no line will take your order anyway, probably ruining your next visit when you attempt to do the same thing again. A grizzled employee who looks and talks like they smoke about a pack a day will yell at you for not getting in the line you couldn't tell existed because people are standing everywhere. A customer will yell at you for cutting the line even though they were nowhere near the sign that you missed because there are random signs everywhere. 6) Order deli sandwiches from under the ceiling mounted sign; see above if confused.

So I ordered the cheesesteak from Capriotti's the same way. I can honestly say I think it would have been way better than Jerseys Mikes, if I hadn't of ordered the hot & sweet peppers. Omgosh it was hot. And I normally order spicier wings than medium because medium is never hot enough. But this was too spicy for ME and it was my fault . I couldn't even pick out the jalapeños because they seemed to have been diced up with the meat. That's why only 4 stars. I'm sure I'll update to 5 after my next order. My impression is that they do quite a bit of takeout. The Philly comes in four sizes, mini, small, medium, large. I went with the small (maybe 7-8 inches) and that was a good size. It was made fresh, included onions, mushrooms, and of course, cheese. I got some hot peppers on the side. It was served piping hot on a very soft roll. They did not skimp on the steak. It was very tasty and filling. Ketchup packets are available. The staff were friendly and service was quick for a fresh made sandwich. With a bag of chips, the cost was just under $15.

I ordered online their signature McAlister's Club with a side of Miss Vickie's chips (included). Thanks to the promotion, I only paid for the Famous Tea. The sandwich was pretty standard, but the honey mustard added the perfect sweet and tangy kick. The portion looked small, but it was surprisingly filling. My only disappointment is that they forgot the pickle. The Famous Tea was the highlight! Fresh brewed, refreshing, I'm obsessed!! I stopped by around lunchtime on a Tuesday, and the place was bustling. The ambiance reminded me of Panera, except the food was actually good. Despite the lunch rush, the takeout service was incredibly fast. I was in and out in less than five minutes, and the staff were very friendly. A great first visit, and I'll definitely be back!

I'm from miami I'm visiting the parks as a childless gold season holder; therefore I plan to visit a lot. This is my second visit at Jason's Deli and I must say it is an absolute 10/10 experience even this second time around. Sharra was absolutely 100% attentive and helpful. Not only are the sandwiches ( I haven't yet tried anything else) but the customer service is absolutely 100% roo tier. When my order was a bit complicated ( due to my 4 hour drive back to miami) Sharra made sure to replay my demands to the chef who had no problem accommodating me. I did not get his name but it was the young man on Shara's shift with the dread locks, medium build about 23 years of Age looking. Nonetheless, I want to say thank you Jason's for always being so extra welcoming and attentive. I do want to say that the first visit was with a causacian woman. With the short court who seemed to be the manager. She wasn't as talkative or welcoming. However. I would just count her out and still say my experience at Jason's is a 10/10. Especially this visit!! Thank you Sharra. I will for sure be back in 2 weeks! xoxo SN: if you're thinking about going to Jason's;PLEASE DO!!! 10000000/10

Finally a manager-looking person opened a second register, and it went quicker from there. We snagged a booth, put our order number on the table, and headed to the salad bar. The salad bar had a nice variety of items, and was well stocked. Because I ordered the "Manager's Special", I got a side salad plate to go with my half a Reuben sandwich, but that was plenty of salad. The half of a sandwich arrived quickly, and was really good. Things I did not love about Jason's: too long to order, the place was incredibly LOUD, with screaming children and crying babies as far as the ear could hear, the potato chips that came with my sandwich were all broken into tiny pieces, the ice cream in the machine was a melty blob, and the muffins that looked like chocolate were actually gingerbread, and terrible, so don't be fooled. If I go back, it won't be on a weekend.
