Great little all American hardware store, minus the shoddy reception. The store reminds me of the cozy little mom and pop shops of the 70's and early 80's that stocked the little nuts and bolts, fittings, washers, paint brushes and all other nick nacks and patty wacks. Nice gardening section to the very front and outside of the store, including lots of bright light and low light plants for the apartment peeps. Forest Hills Hardware Store is the only local store that sells hardware goods in the Forest Hills vicinity other than Duane Reade, Rite Aid, or the generic chain stores. I've visited on multiple occasions, to buy cooking pans, duck tape, plunger, house key copies, and whatever I need in an instant. Once my toilet clogged (happens when you ate heartily the night before) and thankfully Forest Hills Hardware Store was open at night. This store provides all the tools and gadgets you need to replace, repair, and enhance all fixtures in the home for a reasonable price. The only complaint I have is some of the items look like they are from the last decade. Before you buy I suggest you inspect the quality of the item. Went here today with my (2) sons ages 11 and 10 to get a key cut. As we waited, my sons stood about a foot away from me and were "rolling" themselves with handheld rolling massage gadgets. An older guy, who was visible in the rear of the store, walk over and yelled at them. His concern - they would break the "glass" novelty item adjacent to the rolling gadgets. After the younger guy completed the key and I paid him, I asked the older guy for clarification and to explain what happened. He pointed to the (5) smaller than a foot tall, plastic novelty items that sold for fewer than $10 at most. Then, he commented "yesterday someone broke the glass". There was no glass - these were dusty, plastic novelty items in a cardboard organizer, located lower than waist-high. Keeping in mind that my sons were not running around the store, nor were they doing anything dangerous, I simmered for a split second and asked for a refund on the key. Backstory - on this day, I wanted to get (2) copies of the same key. This was my 2nd stop and 2nd copy, the 1st was cut at the other hardware store across the street. I was simply getting a feel for the local hardware stores. Anyway, among the thoughts I shared with him - he's in the people business. Unless there's a clear risk or kids are running around the store, there's no need for him to yell at anyone's kids. Sub $10 imported plastic novelty items don't fit the bill. read more

Very small shop convenient for small odds and ends you may need for a project. I came in to get a very short handled Phillips head screw driver. The man at the front desk was quick with helping me find where it was (the store is overflowing with items). Some things are pretty pricey, but it's great for if you need something quickly and don't feel like driving to home depot. read more

Extremely overpriced. Not just a little. I just had an emergency and bought a knock off brand roll of strapping tape at half the size of the popular commercial brand. They are charging 2x as much as Home Depot or other mom and pop stores charge for quality merchandise and instead you get cheap junk. I will never shop here again. read more

I was forced to come to this store because UPS left my package here, even though it's a bit out of the way for me. First of all, the UPS website states that they close at 9pm. Luckily, I called to confirm first and was told that they actually close at 8pm. I also informed the person on the phone that I would be coming to pick up my package. So I had to scramble to get there before 8. Arrived more than ten minutes before 8, and surprise! gates are already shuttered and not a soul is in sight. I don't understand why UPS continues to use this store as a pick up location since I saw something similar happened to another reviewer a year ago!! I've already filed a complaint with UPS so hopefully the proper action will be taken this time. read more

I went in to get long screws for my bed and had examples of what I was looking for. Normally, hardware stores will sell the screws individually. The guy working just pointed at a rack and said that's all we have, while he was talking on his cell phone. Absolutely horrible customer service on his part. Very, Very Rude!!! Stay away! UPS left my package there because I wasn't at my apartment. When I arrived to pick it up, the guy had closed the store 10 minutes earlier than its closing time. I told him politely that my package was inside and he brushed past me roughly and told me the store was closed and "too bad." We exchanged words, and I was shocked at how aggressive this man was. He really resented me pointing out that his store was closed earlier than advertised. I'm sending a complaint to UPS requesting that they do not under any circumstances send my packages to this store. I also would encourage consumers to take their business to other hardware stores on Queens Boulevard where the service and hardware is much, much better. read more

Just kind of grunts and vaguely points to where your item might be. Seems to have no knowledge of ummmmmmmm HARDWARE. But they got a nice new sign recently and that's the important thing, right? I've been in here three times thinking maybe it was just a bad day the first time or maybe a different guy would be there, but nope...always the same guy and the same experience and I can't wait to get outta there. Terrible service. I asked for a specific kind of screwdriver, and I even showed a picture. I was given the wrong size, which I didn't know until I unwrapped the plastic. Later that day, I tried to exchange it, and got into an argument with the owner. He was adamant that I was costing him money, and rather hesitant to give a refund or even an exchange. Possibly the worst retail service I have ever experienced. I had to come here to pick up a package from UPS. Before arriving, I verified on UPS's tracking that the package was delivered. When I walked in, the person at the cash register, I think it was the owner, asked to see my ID. After looking for the package for about 2 seconds, he promptly returned and told me UPS hadn't delivered the package and that the tracking information was wrong. Having had this exact same experience at the same store once before, I asked the cashier to look again because on the previous occasion, the cashier found my package almost immediately on a second look. This time, the cashier flat out refused to look again. Being persistent, and knowing my history with the store, I insisted. The first time I insisted, the cashier raised his voice, shouting at me that I wasn't listening to him and UPS hadn't delivered my package. When I kept insisting he look again, the cashier told me I was wasting his time. Finally, I wore the cashier down and he angrily told me if i didn't believe him, why don't I look for the package myself. The cashier let me behind the counter where the packages were kept. My package was the first package I grabbed at the top of the pile and it took me approximately 1 second to locate. When I showed the package to the cashier, he told me "fine, get out." I have already filed a complaint with UPS. I would give this store 0 stars if that was an option. Avoid this place at all costs. read more

The couple of times I've shopped here, I've bought light bulbs, a pot, an iron and a refrigerator thermometer. Based on what I've gotten here, it seems as though this store specializes in selling products made by second rate companies. And guess what? Literally two seconds after placing the bulb into the socket, it caused a fuse to blow. And that 20 dollar iron (made by a company I'm sure you've never heard of) doesn't work. It keeps shutting off and on (mostly off). I would've loved to have bought a different iron made by a company I've heard of. But the choice was either that iron or that iron. All the reviews that state the store is filled to the gills are correct. It would be nicer if among all that quantity, there was also more choice. Hopefully, the quality of the more run of the mill stuff (screwdrivers and the like) is better than what I've bought there. As far as the service is concerned, the person who was there the time I was shopping for a thermometer was pretty helpful. Otherwise, I've found the person who is usually there to be pretty apathetic. Next time I need to buy housewares, I'll be shopping elsewhere. read more
