Yesterday, I got a call from one of my former coworkers and she told me that another coworker that we both loved, worked with has passed away in May of this year. We don't know much details about his passing, nor any information about how, where and the exact day that God took him home. He was 75 years young and didn't make it to his 76th birthday which was on the 25th of June. Long story short, it really devastated me, because we were very close together. Later, we found out that a neighbor who was also one of our former coworkers found him dead at his condo. He was cremated and that's all that I know. Forest Lawn in Glendale is a very pieceful place to be, and visit your loved ones. Every package has its own price along with burial, cremation. scattering ashes and more. May all the deceased (RIP) and a light to shine on their spirits and souls. read more

One of my earliest memories (maybe just a glimpse of a memory) was when my grandpa was buried here in 1982. I remember the hole in the ground and the coffin but not much else. Since then I have been back to visit many times, and more of my relatives (including my grandma) were buried here. My dad passed away less than three months ago so this was the only place we really considered. After some confusion with some pre-sales people (who seem to operate independently of this office), we've been really happy with our experience with Forest Lawn, from our initial multi-hour intake meeting with Maricar. She was professional, comforting (we came in a few short days after it happened), and very clear in her communication. She showed us a lot of options for various things (urns, cards, flowers, etc.), didn't pressure us to make any decisions we weren't ready for, and made sure we had water and snacks. We ended up doing separate days for cremation and a memorial service. Throughout the time I would send her long emails with lots of questions, and she (or someone from her team) would respond to me promptly. The rest of the staff were also excellent. I received multiple updates as my dad was being transferred from the hospital to Forest Lawn. On the day of the cremation my son noticed that a basket of snacks had disappeared between when we arrived and when he left; when he asked about them they brought them back out for him (maybe grieving burns lots of calories). We had multiple rounds of back-and-forth on things like the urn inscription as well as the printout for the memorial service (including some Chinese characters). Everything was handled exceptionally well. For cremation viewing there are a couple of options - a smaller room right near the cremation furnace and a larger area; we opted for the smaller one. We had about 20 minutes with my mom, wife and kids, and a few family friends. We all said our goodbyes and placed a few things into the coffin - calligraphy from my mom and a bookmark that was a party favor for their 50th wedding anniversary, an origami fighter jet from my son, origami stegosauruses from my daughter and me (my dad got me two on his travels when I was a kid), and an origami crane from my wife. For the service were were in the Little Church of the Flowers. It seats up to 100 but feels cozier since 16 of the seats are in a small area off to the side. Two people from Forest Lawn were present throughout the service, helping with guiding people, getting a light to light up sheet music for a piano duet by my sister and brother-in-law, helping other relatives set up the parting gift/snack station (my mom insisted we couldn't send people away hungry and empty-handed). No photos of the whole church but there's a video walkthrough on the website. Random details: Memorial service slideshow can have up to 80 photos (you have to pay extra for more); later they sent printed copies of all the photos. We got the portrait ($350) and were very happy with it (it is now my dad's study). We also paid for the livestream since we were short on space and had some people who were not able to travel. It has several different camera angles and the audio quality is good, and I'm happy that we have a video. We tried to get people to not send flowers but a few did anyways and they looked nice next to the urn. Very relieved to have the service behind us. It's been a very difficult few months, but we were always in good hands at Forest Lawn. Thanks again to Maricar and the whole team here. The service truly felt like a celebration of my dad's life. Recently had a cremation service and celebration of life service at this venue for my dearly beloved grandfather. For guests and immediate family members, you can pull up to the information station at the entrance and the staff there will advise you where to park or where you need to go. I want to thank Forest Lawn for their kindness and empathy as we said our final words to my grandfather before he was to be cremated. They gave us an adequate amount of time and offered condolences. The next day, for his celebration of life, we were able to host and hold a day of respect, prayers, and love thanks to this venue. The interior was beautiful and the flower package my mom and her siblings got for their dad was gorgeous to look at. Special shoutout to Diana and Sonia for their communication and information as they helped ease concerns in the whole planning process. I reached out to Forest Lawn to discuss a family dispute over the potential disinterment of a close realtive. They only gave us 5 days to produce a court order to prevent the disinternment, which included a holiday weekend. It was an impossible timeline to meet and they went ahead with the disinternment and cremation. They could have delayed a lot longer, but they were heartless and didn't give a damn. My mother-in-law is now having a mental health emergency after visiting the grave today and finding him gone. They are curel and heartless and I would never recommend interring anyone there. read more

We just used Forest Lawn for a burial. It is a pretty place. There are places that are cheaper, but for what we got we were very happy. We also had a graveside service and all was set up for us when we got there. The staff is very nice. The place itself is just lovely and it is well maintained and they don't just let the grass die, like Inglewood Cemetery does. They have a chapel for services and viewings if you want. We did not do that. They also sell everything you might need for any type of funeral. The have lovely mausoleum space and it is kept spotless. I hope I don't have to use them again soon, but this is where I will go if the need arises. They make sure you are well taken care of from start to finish. I do recommend them. read more

Attended a viewing here and this is my first visit. Amazing Gothic architectural design structures which housed a Flower Shop , the Mortuary and Administration. Visiting and viewing chapels are planned like multiple suites for different purpose. One room was used for visiting purpose where the deceased and mourners gather. Second room was used for viewing a slide show movie of the life of the deceased! Another room was used for a little reception area where guests can get food and drinks during their visit. Old school since 1906. This is one massive cemetery and I can easily see visitors getting lost trying to find a loved one buried here. The gentleman I spoke with was very gentle and helpful, albeit a bit pushy - niche price was not mentioned upfront; I was asked, startlingly, to pick out my own urn right away; even though I said many times I was only interested in Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills, he tried to persuade me to consider the Glendale park. I ended up purchasing my end of life care and mausoleum space at Hollywood Forever, because niches at both Forest Lawn locations (Glendale and Hollywood Hills) are incredibly expensive. I haven't been here in years since moving out of state I came to visit my mother and relatives. I could not remember where my relatives were so I went into the main lobby and was assisted by a young lady who gave me a map with all the information I needed and she said she could have security assist me finding everything. They came to assist me and found my loved ones very quickly and were very nice. I visited them in the great mausoleum which was still beautiful till this day. We have gone to forest lawn Hall of the crucifixion on Good Friday as a family tradition for over 30 years. Covid shifted that but this year we were excited to return. Hard to fully grasp why Jesus hung on the cross for our sins but we come on Good Friday to acknowledge and embrace this truth - looking forward to the familiar narration of this story even including the roar of thunder always so impressive in the hall. We have heard the tale often of the time, detail and sparing no expense Dr Eaton had as he had an entire hall built around this mural to forever tell the crucifixion story to 1000's. A lasting legacy of his heart. A gift left behind for all. So how sad we were to realize no story no thunder - who ever is in charge decided to remove the crucifixion story. It's just a simple history lesson now. Presenting facts on the artist and the murals journey to Forest Lawn. The crucifixion hall no longer tells the story of the crucifixion. Such disbelief I felt sitting there. Thinking Dr Eaton would never allow this. Dr Eaton (the beloved founder of Forest Lawn) so I want to follow his lead - his hearts desire to share this mural - the story of what Jesus did on the cross for all. That Jesus died for our sins that we have hope in Jesus He died so that we can be saved. Death on the cross for the sins of the world. Our sins. Those in charge can try to marginalize Christ's story on the cross but they'll never be able to hide the hope, love or light that Jesus offers to all - to them. "Forgive them Father they no not what they have done" I pray others will speak up. read more

My husband and I came to visit here as part of our Walt Disney remembered tour and I was very happy to see Forest Lawn for the first time. The thing that our tour guide blew me away with was that people actually come to Forest Lawn to picnic! I must admit with the manicured and well kept grounds that it would be a great place to have a picnic but I'm sorry this is a cemetery and one needs to show respect for those who have their final resting places here and for that of their loved ones. Forest Lawn offers both above ground and below ground plots for both burials and cremations. The cemetery is very extensive and I marveled at some of the chapels we drove by. One was the sight of Groucho Marx's funeral and where Ronald Reagan got married. We were specifically going to see the Disney family garden which was near the entrance of the Freedom Mausoleum. Walt Disney was cremated and his ashes are stored with that of his wife, Robert Brown=husband of Sharon Disney and Sharon-(Ashes scattered) behind a memorial stone in the garden. The garden is very beautiful. Hard to believe this was his final resting place. Not too far away we spotted the gravestones of Wayne Allwine and Russi Taylor. Their names may not sound familiar to you however in the corner of their stones you will see MM3 and MMF. These two people provided the 3rd voice of Mickey Mouse and the 4th voice of Minnie Mouse. We got to visit a little of the Freedom Mausoleum. So beautiful and such as fitting tribute to the remains of Nat King Cole and Alan Ladd. Even Clara Bow Hollywood's "it" girl has a memorial stone. Time did not permit us to visit the museum which is supposed to house a magnificient stained glass reproduction of DeVinci's Last Supper and the hall of Crucifixion but believe me I could have spent hours here. This is the final resting place of many celebrities including Debbie Reynolds and Carrie Fisher, Clark Gable from Cadiz, Ohio where he was born, George Burns and Gracie Allen, Michael Jackson, Larry Fine of the 3 Stooges, Humphrey Bogart, Bette Davis, Aimee Semple McPherson, and Jimmy Stewart who has his own museum in his hometown of Indiana, PA-(reviewed separately). This is only a handful of names I could come up with. All in all it is a beautiful cemetery and one that deserves the utmost respect whether you have a loved one buried here or not. On a hot Saturday morning in July, my sister and I went to check out the Last supper stain glass at mausoleum Terrace building. We waited at 8am and walked through the hallway to see Italian designed sculptures. It was very hot inside. I guess the dead don't need AC. Then we see the last supper stained glass. It was breathtaking looking at it. Also I got too see Elizabeth Taylor tomb which has an Angel sculpture on top. Overall, it is very hilly and the plots are well maintained and the lawn surrounding the grave plots are well maintained. So Forest Lawn operates as a non-profit despite raising their service and plot prices annually. This is justified by their free public events, art gallery exhibits, and other loopholes. What brings me here is that despite paying thousands of dollars, the grounds aren't kept properly. They are quick to throw or misplace healthy flowers but I've found trash and debris and even damage to my loved ones tablet due to the carelessness during the burials. There seems to be preferential treatment based on locations in the cemetery. Like if you have paid for premium location, decoration rules and policies don't seem to apply? (just simply look to your left as you enter FL. When I wrote asking for clarification as a followup I didn't review a response. When my loved one's tablet was finally fixed, Yesenia did a fantastic job at keeping me informed of when it was ready as well as giving me an estimated timeline and keeping me updated through the process. How fitting that on the day before Michael Jackson's birthday, a group of us took a guided tour of the Great Mausoleum at Forest Lawn-Glendale and were able to see the final resting place of MJ himself. Granted, MJ's actual sarcophagus was covered by a screen; but we were allowed into Holly Terrace and able to see the Gothic arch and nave, stained glass window and inscribed marble book right in front of his place of internment. (According to the internet, this "property" cost $500K.) I do think it's a shame that his devoted fans aren't allowed an opportunity to lay a wreath or other memento at his grave. He seems to have some of the most obsessed and dedicated fans in the world. On the other hand, it's completely understandable that his family wanted privacy and security for him given the high level of obsession that he inspired. (Now, regarding Michael Jackson, to be honest, I am not a fan. I've never purchased any of his music and his legacy as a human being is muddled to say the least. But did I grow up with the Jackson 5 on my TV and my radio? Yep. Do I love Billie Jean? Guilty as charged. Was his dancing incredible? Even Fred Astaire thought so. And was I thrilled to see his final resting place? I have to admit I was. But I'm also a little ashamed of that level of voyeuristic thrill.) I am a big fan, however, of observing how society treats its idols in death. And the MJ love is stronger than ever, judging by the stunning floral tributes already being placed at the entrance of Holly Terrace the day before his birthday. Forest Lawn is the perfect backdrop for mega-stars to spend eternity. It's been described as the Disneyland of death and that's a fitting picture. Facsimiles of famous works of art (Michelangelo is a favorite), manicured lawns, and European-inspired architecture attempt to soothe the souls of the bereaved. And there are plenty of idols to visit here (Jimmy Stewart, Elizabeth Taylor, Jean Harlow, etc. etc.) Do I have pictures of MJ's final resting place, you ask? Well, if I did, I wouldn't post them here because it's against official Forest Lawn policy. I also wouldn't want the Jackson family coming for me. There are plenty online if you're interested. Much of the Great Mausoleum is open to the public; to see the Terraces with the graves of the more notable people, you must attend a tour. It's well worth it. Our tour guide, Melissa, was amazing. She was knowledgeable, friendly, and followed Forest Lawn policy to the letter by not pointing out the resting places of the famous (luckily, I had done my research.) Apart from the Great Mausoleum, there are tons of other famous gravesites out in the open to visit. If that's your thing, this is the place for you. Admission is free; parking is also free. Unfortunately, we lost someone very important to us in an untimely manner. Lately, this has been where I have spent most of my days in preparation for a funeral. Staff has been very patient and accommodating. Packages are available for the convenience of having all the arrangements done in one place. I appreciate how attentive the staff are to our specificities. I was able to visit my loved one prior to the service dates making sure everything is how it needs to be. I was invited to David Bowie Mexican Art exhibit with my one and only Bestie and her lovely mother. It was a beautiful day and I never new how lovely a cemetery can be. We explored all angles of the exhibit and as "promised it won't be boring!" I think the pictures can express how beautiful our experience was. LOVE IT! I am a fan and to return! A must on your bucket list if there is a art exhibit I do not think I need to rewrite all the amazing line up of celebrities buried but I highly suggest you bring walking shoes and a snack. First and foremost, if you're seeing this review under tragic circumstances, please accept my condolences. This particular review pertains to the museum and public art that the cemetery has to offer. For some, it may feel odd to visit a cemetery as a leisurely activity. I've done it before (mostly to see historical/celebrity graves). I believe that this was my first time visiting a cemetery museum, however. The Glendale location has a lovely museum that is totally free. Open Tuesday-Sunday, 10 AM - 5 PM. If you're interested, I do have a separate review for the museum. In addition to the museum, there is plenty to see. The Hall of Crucifixion-Resurrection (the building next door to the museum) has some beautiful pieces of stained glass but most importantly, holds the largest religious painting ever created. The Crucifixion by Jan Styka is huge. You need to use your phone's panorama mode to capture it. I understand that they do some sort of audio presentation throughout the day but luckily, the curtains were open when I came by and I got to view the painting without waiting for the presentation to begin. Furthermore, make sure you see the mausoleum (open for public viewing from 9 AM - 430 PM). It's in a separate area from the museum and you have to drive a couple minutes. I saw a few references to it within the museum but it didn't quite prepare me for what I was about to see. First of all, there is a large stained glass recreation of Da Vinci's The Last Supper. There are also multiple replicas of Michelangelo's famous works. FYI: The cemetery does have a David replica but it's in a different place (outside). I tried to see it but there was a funeral nearby, with lots of people in the road. I felt uneasy and ended up turning around. Back to the mausoleum. There are lots of beautiful statues all around so make sure you see it all. Just remember, this is an actual functional mausoleum and you are surrounded by real humans that have ceased to be. I'm not sure if photos are allowed (probably not). The last thing I'll say is -- make sure you go downstairs. There is a small area that is less religious, even secular. It's called The Poet's Windows. It has beautiful stained glass imagery coupled with charming poetry (Tennyson, etc.). This juxtaposition even brought a tear to my eye, it was so lovely. The cemetery is easy to navigate, with ample signage. You can grab a map either at the lobby area or at the museum (the museum map is clearer). There is a huge parking area at the museum and smaller lots at the mausoleum and lobby. Everyone I encountered (staff) was so friendly and helpful. I interacted with an employee at the cemetery lobby (to grab a map and inquire about the museum) as well as a museum staff member. They were both beyond kind to a first-time visitor, offering plenty of help and advice. The whole cemetery is really beautiful and oddly uplifting. It sounds insensitive to say that when you're visiting for a leisurely reason, I'm sure. However, the cemetery's founder intended for the space to signal a beginning and not an end. His intention was to create a space where "lovers new and old shall love to stroll and watch the sunset's glow, planning for the future or reminiscing of the past; a place where artists study and sketch; where schoolteachers bring happy children to see the things they read of in books..." He didn't want doom and gloom, he wanted sunshine and inspiration. I'd say he succeeded. read more

I was in Glendale for a weekend for a wedding, and we had a few hours on a Sunday a couple of weeks ago to explore. On a bit of a whim, I decided to visit Forest Lawn Cemetery in Glendale, and it was so much more than I had expected. We didn't see everything (there was actually so much to see), but the highlights were the bronze reproduction of Michelangelo's David, the Hall of Crucifixion-Resurrection (which houses what they claim to be the largest religious painting in the world at 195 feet long and 45 feet high), the stained glass recreation of Leonardo da Vinci's Last Supper in the Great Mausoleum, and various other statues and courtyards around the property. I recommend you start at the museum on the property. There wasn't much to see inside when we visited because the museum was opening a new exhibit that wasn't quite open yet, but they had maps of the art and the grounds, which helped us figure out where to walk and explore! There were certainly people visiting the cemetery to respect and remember their loved ones, so it's important to be respectful when exploring the property. But there were lots of other people visiting the property as a tourist, taking in the considerable public art. I found it to be an exceptional place to visit - with incredible art and sculptures and history. Not to mention the views! Certainly worth a visit and a walk around if you are in the area. read more

Forest Lawn is a place which holds many memories for me and I have enjoyed this property for over 40 years. The calm serene landscape, beautiful European style architecture and immaculate grounds are made to invoke the feeling and inspiration of heaven. I have only visited one other Forest Lawn location to pick something up, but this particular location is a stand out in comparison, it might even be the original location, not sure. The founder installed many beautiful stained glass replicas and famous works of art, statues and murals, all throughout the property. The Glendale location houses three pieces of artwork to support the founder's vision of providing a glimpse of the inspiration and hope of heaven. The first two works are large paintings of the Crucifixion and the Resurrection which depict the life of Jesus. The mural painting by Jan Styka was so large, that a building was commissioned just to house the painting. During business hours, there is a no charge excellent theatre presentation of the original artwork describing the artwork in full detail. Housed in a different building, the stained glass window replica of Leonardo da Vinci' s painting, "The Last Supper", is the third work the founder installed as inspiration of heaven, with a push button audio presentation describing the work if one desires to listen. The stained glass collection on the premises boasts over 1,000 pieces, one of the largest collections in North America. Over the years, there have been fantastic temporary art exhibits and tributes here has well. When I was a young child, I lost my father to cancer, he is buried here and his service was held in a small chapel on property, it is a replica of a chapel in Scotland if I remember correctly. The pathways around the chapel, and the little prayer garden are so charming. Fast forward 40 years just shy of one month, and we laid my dearly loved sweet mother to rest last year, just as the lockdowns hit. We were not able to hold a large service for my mom as we had always envisioned, rather it was an intimate graveside service with family due to constantly changing restrictions. I know both of my parents are now reunited in heaven through their faith in Jesus and his finished work on the cross, but this is a place I come now to pay my deepest respect to two of the most amazing people I have been blessed to know. I have to say that everyone who has provided assistance to us has been extremely professional and most helpful. The staff went above and beyond to accommodate requests and they are extremely responsive to make sure the family has what they need to honor their loved ones in the best way possible. I really can't think of a nicer place to visit the resting place of my loved ones and I am so thankful for the founder's vision so many years ago, to create a place of tranquility, peace, serenity and beauty. read more

The owners response makes no sense. 1. How is a cyclist different from a motorist for a grieving family to see? At the time we were being kicked out by security, a vehicle gunned its engine past us. That is far more offensive to a somber moment than the silence of a cyclist. Are you suggesting cyclists don't have empathy? As someone who has had to bury my own family members, I find that extremely offensive. Your other points also hold no water, as cyclists and motor vehicles, maintenance vehicles and so on, all share the roads everywhere I will be reporting your unfair business practices to the public at large, not just here,but all media channels at my disposal. I have been a tireless champion for cyclists rights in Los Angeles. I will continue my support for all cyclists rights to enjoy open spaces I saw no spaces for pedestrians or the disabled either. When my mom passed away after a long decline, I was exhausted and sad. Our family had purchased a plot for for long ago at Forest Lawn. When I called them to get next steps I was guided through a seamless and thoughtful process. The person who helped me plan for her cremation and burial was compassionate and took her time helping me to move through hard moments but also make decisions. I was able to decide on all the arrangements plus the the technical things like death certificates very easily with her support. On the day of her funeral, Angel Garcia helped our guests find the gravesite, helped arrange flowers, checked in with, my brother and I to keep things moving and comforted us in that we knew our mom was in good hands. This is the cemetery we chose for my dad's resting space. My father Passed October and unexpectedly. We were so broken n worried how were we getting everything together. I reached out to forest lawn they were able to make an appointment and we met with Sandra Dennis. She was so sweet, soft spoken and compassionate. (I've heard stories before of how some cementaries can be horrible, rude and money hungry ) she took her time to review all possible space within our budget, showed us around the cemetery and everything went smoothly communication via email and phone. Today, we buried our brother in law at Glendale Forest Lawn. As sad as it was, but I don't have the words to say how much we appreciated their services from one day getting the plot to one making all the arrangement to one day on the funeral day.
