Three generations of my family have been clients of Mountain View services. The experience has always been professional and caring. I've always liked visiting Mountain View because how beautiful it is especially being so close to the mountains I think Mountain View represents the community ideally Elizabeth helped me last month after my mother passed away. She was professional, kind, caring, and followed up on every detail. I can't see enough about how professionally she was and at the same time how much concern she had for our well-being. She also has great knowledge of the cemetery and I enjoyed our conversations. during one of my visits last month I had problems located my grandparents burial site and I had several maintenance people take time to offer to help me find their gravesite. Everyone who works here, cares about the cemetery and seems to take pride in maintaining it. Mountain View has a small town feel about it, unlike some of the larger corporate cemeteries in Southern California. I cannot recommend it enough. read more

This company has been around for many years yet the service has definitely changed. I buried my mother March 2026 in a crypt. Ordered a name plate which I was told takes 6-8 weeks. I went to visit the crypt in July 2026 16 weeks later and no name plate. I called and spoke to Cindy who could not answer what the plate has not ben delivered but, Stated I'll look into it and call you back. 2 weeks later I called again and Cindy said the plate was ordered the late time I called in July. This is a hard review to make as my feelings are mixed on my experience with Mountain View. It is a beautiful old cemetery and Manny helped throughout the process with planning my father's gathering & burial arrangements. I'd give him 100stars, cannot say enough wonderful things about this man- He's very professional, kind, and kept me up to date as much as possible and solved problems along the way. Manny went above and beyond to help make the process easier for everyone I was very grateful for his help, I think he works harder at his job than anyone else. Aside from that I was not impressed with a lot of things. The day of the Memorial was chaotic, the guests had no direction and were told to wait so they all congregated up at the front building. Then the viewing that was supposed to be just a couple people turned into everyone coming in to view my father. This could have been catastrophic if I wasn't so laid back but he looked sharp so I figure it was meant to be that way, many were glad they got to see him. It worked out well it was just a bit overwhelming as that was way different than what was originally planned. Whoever was directing outside would not allow the person I hired to set up the photos & flowers go inside the cemetery beforehand so when I discovered that nothing had been done at the site yet I had to run from the viewing to go throw everything together all by myself at the location in the literal minutes before the ceremony. Due to that set back I didn't get anything up properly. Lastly a few days before the funeral the groundskeepers assured me that they would have my grandfathers grave cleaned up (my dad was buried in the same plot at later date) but it was not done. It's also been noticed they remove flowers very quickly after placed which is a bit off putting. They were very much on top of making sure payment was complete but after that it took a substantial amount of time and several check ins before burial happened for my dad. To be honest I didn't mind that wait but from day one I was very clear I wanted to be there for his burial. The day finally came and I found out the afternoon before that they would be burying him the next day, a bit frustrating the lack of notice but it was beyond time for it to happen so I just worked it out. I kept in communication up until just a couple hours before to make sure it was clear I would be there for the burial and agreed to come at a set time. I showed up an hour before that set time and my father was already buried!! This was extremely upsetting and the men finishing up did not seem to care in the slightest about my distress. It seems like they were just glad to have "finished up early". This has been extremely distressing for me and my family/friends are upset hearing it as well. I'm still struggling with what happened. I spoke with Manny afterwards and he was very apologetic as this was not how it was supposed to go, he was not notified they were going to finish early so there was really nothing that could have gone differently on his end. There is some major communication issues going on. I'm definitely rethinking the plans I was considering for myself and the rest of my family in a plot here as it seems like the management is lacking, it doesn't really seem like anyone else cares there. It's kept together just well enough to get paid. read more

Cindy the manager is extremely disrespectful and does not care one bit about mourning families. If I could move my family member out of this cemetery I would. The people running this place only care about your money. You can not put anything for your loved one since they use this cemetery often to record movies or shows. If I could warn anyone to spend their money somewhere else this is a place I'd recommend you to not spend your money at! read more

Never ever ever do they pick up the phones office always empty they are mean and rude

My family and I have been extremely disappointed with our experience over the past year. It has now been almost 12 months since our grandfather passed, and we are still unable to lay him to rest. We prepaid for plots located OUTSIDE of the mausoleum, yet we were told the inside of the mausoleum was damaged and therefore no ceremonies could take place. Since our plots are outdoors and not affected, we should have been allowed to proceed with the burial. For the past year, we have continuously called seeking updates and were repeatedly told that only someone named Elizabeth could address our concerns. Despite this, she has never called us back. We have been given no clear answers, no communication, and no sense of urgency. I'm starting to believe Elizabeth doesn't exist and they are trying to cover up for something larger than we know. Despite multiple calls, emails and texts, no one responds back. This situation has caused my family unnecessary stress and prolonged grief. We are simply trying to find closure and honor our grandfather properly, but the lack of communication and support has made this process incredibly difficult. Management needs to address this issue, come up with a resolution and call US back. read more

I visited Thursday August 28th, 2025 to simply walk around and enjoy the scenery with my boyfriend. I am from out of town and truly adore seeing new cemeteries. My first interaction was with a man who had let us know nicely that no pictures are allowed to be taken. I appreciated it and respected not taking any pictures. I placed my camera & phone away, I didn't want any problems or to be disrespectful. My boyfriend and I continue to walk around and acknowledging everything around us in a quiet manner. As we were acknowledging a beautiful headstone, I was approached by a filipino lady in a blue dress. She said "you can't be taking pictures" we said nicely that we aren't and we are just acknowledging the headstone. She proceeded to tell me "you can't be here and you need to leave". Out of complete shock, I couldn't respond. She continued to say "you can't be here because of your makeup and how you look, people are mourning their families. You are making them uncomfortable". The lady said she worked there, if that's the case, absolutely disgustingly unprofessional. Especially for a cemetery. Couldn't imagine if I had a family member buried here and couldn't see them because of "how I look". read more

I have no dead buried here, but I visited the Mountain View Mausoleum for the Pasadena LitFest at the end of April. It was a beautiful place, a great venue for a book festival, if not otherwise the most intuitive event space when no one has died. The building is gorgeous and historic, and it was cool doing a panel here about Los Angeles and the literary geography of crime. The ceilings were high, the light quality lovely, and all the detailed stonework and stained glass were really striking. I didn't spend much time hanging out with the human remains, but I did see a little alcove that was apparently the resting place of Seeley Mudd, a name I know because he bought naming rights to buildings at like every school where I've ever been a student. Mountain View must be a fancy place. I can't speak to the funeral services or anything like that, but if you're in Altadena and want to see a cool building, Mountain View could be worth checking out. You might even catch a literary event. read more

How can you put into words what needs to be done in these circumstances. With something as difficult as death, I have to say how much I appreciate everything Anna, Oscar and the whole staff made it so we missed no detail. The Chapel was very nice, with ac and ceiling fans it helped keep the heat outside. We had some snackies set out and water so our guest can relax from the traffic getting there. Extremely disappointed with the lack of urgency and lack of empathy that grieving families have been given since the temporary closure of the mausoleum. Giving families ample information is crucial when they have been left in limbo for several months. Every phone call made to the main office has been met with a robotic callus response "we have no information at this time". Helping grieving families is quite literally a good portion of the job and Mountain View has failed. Updates on the mausoleum reopening should be daily at this point, if not on your website, directly to the families who have not been able to bury their loved ones since January. read more

Mountain View helped my family and I when no other cemetery or mortuary would. My mom unfortunately passed away in the Philippines despite being a long time SoCal resident. We laid her to rest there as it was her final wish but we still wanted to have a celebration fo her life here in CA for her family and friends. I called around to places like Forrest Lawn and other mortuaries in the area but no one would service us because we didn't actually have my mother's remains anymore so there wasn't an additional fee to gain. Luckily I found Mountain View and they accommodated us without hesitation. Elizabeth, my counselor was wonderful and connected me with a wonderful Reverend (Luft Johnson) as well as all the staff who would be helping me out on the day. Every member of their staff was so sweet and helpful and helped make my mother's celebration of life a very special day. I can't thank them enough. read more

A super friendly and knowledgeable guy who represents Mountain View as a fine ambassador for this venerable facility. It's obvious he takes great pride in his job, and it shows in both the cleanliness of the grounds and his courteous manner with guests. read more

I love visiting these old cemeteries that have tombstones with beautiful artwork. The new cemeteries of today don't have the same vibe and creepiness of these historic cemeteries. This place closes a bit too early at 500pm when they should be closing at sundown like many other cemeteries in LA County. read more

My very young child and I arrived early for a family cremation service and the old gentlemen at the front entrance kiosk was busy reading something at his desk and did NOT want to give me cremation site directions! The Caucasian older gentleman in his late 60s with white bushy hair was rude and told me to wait in the front for my relative to drive up and have me join the long line of cars. I did just that. Since we arrived an hour early and I'm alone with a young child, it was a good idea to secure parking. Because he wasn't so kind through my car, I ended up walking up to him kindly attempting to ask for directions again. This time, he paused, took a deep breathe, hesitated, which incredibly annoyed and acted like I was a nuisance for trying to find out WHILE GRIEVING where I can park so I can get my young child situated. He was still hesitated to give me info and kept directing me to the bathrooms again in the office building. I finally had enough and pushed back saying that I don't need the bathrooms, I need directions, and asked him how hard is it to direct me to where I need to be? He hesitated AGAIN and finally gave in. The site was literally less than a minute drive! This morning , you may have woke up dreading your job. But this morning , I woke up grieving. Have some respect ! Not a good representation of the business establishment and will forever leave a bad taste in my mouth. read more

I came in from Northern CA to find the gravesites of two relatives and I had absolutely no idea where they were located. I initially called and spoke with Cindy who confirmed my family members were there and where they were located. Upon arrival, I tried to find the locations on my own, but had to go to the office for assistance. When I arrived, Cindy was still there and had preemptively printed out a map and directions for me to follow. Exemplary customer service. She then enlisted the help of her coworker Danny who escorted me to both locations - even though were a great distance apart. I was truly appreciative of both Cindy's and Danny's attentiveness and thoughtfulness. read more

It seems a little strange reviewing a cemetery, but this place was seriously breathtaking. I was headed over to the mountains to go for a hike with one of my clients and as we drove past this place, she was the one who suggested we go here instead. We spent a good two hours here walking around and taking in the stunning scenery: the tombstones, the alters, and the amazing variety of trees spread throughout the land. We also came across a gentleman doing some gardening maintenance. He had been working there for awhile and gave a little more history about the place as well as the rumors of ghosts people have encountered. I love that sort of stuff so I was in awe while listening to him haha. He suggested we check out the mausoleum so we headed there next. Holy crap. I couldn't believe how gorgeous it was inside. It seemed unreal and it was so quiet, eerie even. I loved every minute of it. While in the mausoleum I felt like I was in another country due to all the stained glass and decor choices that had been made. It seems like a strange thing to recommend, but you have to check this place out. It's beautiful. A lovely place to see or just to visit and write in your journal. read more

Keith Brown, the director of Mountain View, is a gem! My sister and I were on a mission to find several long lost relatives who are buried at this cemetery. The only information we had were names, and dates of birth and deaths. Most of the family members we were seeking were born in the 1800's. Keith not only took the time to listen to our story but he took the information, did some research in his database and was able to come up with the burial locations of our ancestors! In addition to providing us with detailed maps, he actually accompanied us to each grave site to ensure that we would find it! He truly went the extra mile to help us have a meaningful experience. Thank you Keith for your extraordinary kindness! This cemetery was started by his family in 1882 so he has a deep connection to it and a real heart for those who walk through his doors. When the land was first purchased the entire thing was in the wilderness of the foothills far from the nearby village. Now the sprawling town of Alta Dena has grown all around it so it is a sanctuary of peace and of grass and old trees in the middle of a big residential and business area. But you would never know that the city was there once you step through the gates. I recently attended a burial here and it was very tender and respectful yet not solemn. The staff treated the burial like a right of passage rather than a tragedy, and that made us all feel better. The grounds of the Mountain View Mausoleum perfectly melt the barrier between the waking and resting worlds, in the most illuminating and profound atmospheric setting. The only encounters I must bring attention to, have been with such a glorious, well dressed man in all black, wearing sunglasses and carrying an ultra specter-like charm. Instantly, I begun to hear the melodic sounds of music like Depeche Mode, Death in June, and Cocteau twins echoing through my head. What kind of apparition would appear with such a presence to invoke such sounds? This being was caught drifting along the Rose Chamber, fading in and out of the stained glass. At the end of my visit, I had also encountered an alluring whistle, coming from the far distance. And yet, when a figure appeared, it arrived before me in an alarmingly abrupt fashion, continuing to whistle. Loving this place forever. read more

Had such a great experience with Mountain View Mortuary. It's a family owned business with very personal service. Everything was done well. They never tried to upsell you on anything. Even gave me great advice on working with outside vendors. They took all the time I needed and never tried to rush me while allow me to grieve my loss. The only area of improvement I would say is their tech. The camera they have needs to be tied into their sound system and they need to be able to tie the pre-recorded videos into their main livestream as one video. Currently they'll post two video links for people to watch: One with the livestream and the other with all the pre-recorded videos. This can be a little challenging to communicate out. However, even with those current limitations, I feel my overall experience extremely good. They allowed me to customize and taylor everything and met as often as needed to answer questions and give advice. read more

It is such a crazy time right now with Covid and Mountain View was very kind and caring. They handled everything with the utmost care and consideration. The staff is extremely nice and patient. It's not an easy thing to deal with death but the staff and especially Katie made the whole process easier. I highly recommend them to everyone. Planning for these things is never easy and not a favorite but Katie and the staff definitely will take care of you. Also, please be kind to them as well. They treat everyone like family. Dad is buried here. The inside mausoleum is ridiculously beautiful. But he didn't want to be buried indoors for eternity. The double doors that lead to the first hall are so damn heavy that if you're not careful they can get away from you and slam with loudest 'final" noise ever. Ominous about covers it. The chapel is small and needed to be larger for my dads memorial. The funeral director was perfectly accommodating and made sure we had many choices and left every decision to us. His ragtag coroner's associates (pip and flip) were yelled at by me more than a few times to pull their heads out of their asses and treat my father and everyone else's loved ones with a lot more care then they had been. What a couple of idiots. All in all we were very pleased. We visit often and always take time to tour the halls of the mausoleum. It's very Phantasm inducing. read more

Gorgeous place... I've been all over Europe and the only places in the US that have even a slight resemblance to European architecture are mostly on the East coast. California has its own beauty and charm and exclusive architectural DNA, but finally I've discovered a beautiful piece of architecture that embodies European features. Every piece of the building is handled with such care and intelligence. There's plenty of stained glass and custom iron touches. If you're a photographer this will be a real treat for you. It's like every corner you turn there's a marble statue, a column, something to read, a painting, a mold... I'm really impressed with the condition of everything as if it was just built or cleaned. The wedding that took place here was unforgettable. It was held in what I call the VIP section of the mausoleum. There was plenty of seating, and the room was so vivid and pretty. It was more modern than any other part of the building with colorful stained glass above and at the altar. A harp was being played and the sound was so gentle. I'm fortunate to visit such a beautiful place, it's peaceful and full of beauty. Parking is a little awkward, you have to double park if it's busy... read more

The place is beautiful, historic, and a popular site for film shoots. That said, my mother-in-law was interned there November, 2018 and they have yet to attach a marker for her niche. How can family or well-wishers finder her? They can't. We have been promised, repeatedly, that the marker was on the way. Any updates we receive are the result of US contacting THEM, never a heads-up or status report from staff. Certainly not what we expected nearly FOURTEEN MONTHS after her service. read more

Our father passed away this December 2020. We were hoping that Theresa Perriello, the funeral director, would be available at Mountain View Mortuary & Cemetery for her guidance during this difficult time. She helped us tremendously in 2014 when our mother passed away. We were thrilled when we learned she is still at Mountain View. She even remembered us, our father who met her in 2014, as well as remembered our mother. Theresa helped us make necessary arrangements during a time when Los Angeles County had a very high number of COVID cases. This made it difficult but Mountain View had a live stream video/audio link on YouTube for the graveside service. This made it wonderful for those who chose to stay at home because of COVID concerns or for those who lived too far away to attend the service. The grounds are beautiful and historic, and our parents rest in a lovely place with caring people who work there. This is my sisters review that was earned: I went to Mountain View Mortuary and Cemetery in Altadena California to ask if they can fill out an affidavit for proof of my father's death after 17 yrs of his passing for Insurance reasons, We couldn't get a death certificate from the hall of records due to Covid 19 and the stay at home orders.
