For the past 22 years., I've been celebrating most of my major holidays with my dad here at Forest Lawn. He passed away in 2004, but it sure still feels like it was just yesterday when he unexpectedly passed away. Forest Lawn in Covina Hills is beautiful. It is far from the cemeteries you may see in horror movies. Every time I am here, I feel so relaxed and comfortable. I have gone to other cemeteries to visit friends and families, and it is just not the same. At Forest Lawn, it feels very peaceful. My entire family, including myself, have plots here at Forest Lawn. A few years ago my mother made arrangements with Forest Lawn for services after her death. We lost her in mid February of 2026 and during the extremely emotional and difficult time that followed, Forest Lawn - Covina Hills was a support that I did not expect to have as we navigated my mother's celebration of life and interment. Our first contact with Forest Lawn was a few hours after my mom's passing while she was in hospice at our home. They were able to respond within three hours of the nurse contacting them to transport her body. Both gentlemen who arrived were professional and clear communicators. They collected information and then explained to us every step of what was going to happen next and even explained why they did some of the things they did. Before they left they instructed us to call Forest Lawn to set up an appointment during the next business day. Our appointment took place about a week later. Adriana was the counselor we initially met with. We went over the package my mother purchased for herself and the decisions she made ahead of time and which she left for us to make. With each step, Adriana was clear about how any of the adjusments we requested would impact the final cost. We also met with a representative from the team doing my mom's make up and hair as well as a florist. This initial meeting took about 3 hours. 5 adults from my family were part of the meeting and each of our voices were heard. Adriana also provided contact information for her and a colleague so that we could ask any questions that came up after the meeting. The most beneficial service that Forest Lawn provided was complementary access to Cadence. It is an online platform that list all the steps that need to be taken after a loved one passes. It includes information about who informs which government entities and how to inform private companies. Additionally, Cadence offers virtual grief groups twice a month. I attended one group it was helpful to process the grief. The services were scheduled 2 weeks after the appointment with Adriana. Jordan was our point person for the day of the funeral and he was kind, clear, and was fully present during all the components of the funeral. The viewing day and the funeral day were honestly a blur for me, but I walked away with the impression that my mother got the best of the best which she deserved. It was located in a nice area and was relatively affordable. I say "affordable" loosely, though, because every cemetery tends to charge for even the smallest changes or additions. The worker handling our case was respective and attentive.. all you could really ask for when you're dealing with this process. We were told that there's no discount for having family members already buried there, which was disappointing. Over the years we've visited forest lawn for wake, funeral and burial services, This location is the final resting place for a few of our loved ones. We usually have smooth planning and progress with our services held here. This particular time was a bit of a run around and a few misguided steps leading up to the service. The paperwork process was a headache. The plots were already paid in full as it was two plots side by side but the added steps they needed were not like times past when plots were purchased in advance. If you plan to have a memorial video loaded onto a usb you can format it to a windows media player file. Over the phone we were informed it needed to be an MP4 but just know a wmp file is sufficient. The day of our loved ones service was a complete 180. Staff were amazing, our family was on their highest priority and they knew exactly what needed to be done for a smooth funeral and burial service. The chapel was a beautiful venue with separate family sitting area on the stage, podium with clear sound for speakers, large screen on stage for tribute videos and smaller screens on the side and back for extended viewing areas. Chairs with canopy on the patio for overflow guest seating, water stations and restroom available inside. We utilized the horse and carriage option which was done so elegantly leading our caravan to the burial site. The hurst vehicle will lead, then carriage will follow along with family and guests behind it all the way to the burial site. The burial service had a dozen chairs for immediate family, a small portable speaker with mic, cooler with boxed waters and we chose a dozen dove release which was all available through their customized services. My son was laid to rest in July. First they advertised how nice it is to have the volt that the casket sits on. During the service it was already in the ground! Then someone stole his flag poles! Now maintenance removed his decorations after Easter when other decorations are still up. They charge soooo much money. Some graves next to my son you're be leaving food, dog poop and trash. The view is beautiful but they claim they remove the decorations yet never cut the grass where he's located. He had a custom flag but they left other people's dodger and charger flag up. My wife accidentally forgot the cards on the pew in the chapel during the inurement up the hill . When we remembered and went back to the chapel , they were gone . Forest lawn employees are very friendly and helpful. I'm talking all the employees. The ones that work in the office behind the scenes and maintenance. I had requested my parents tablets to be cleaned and vases face up. They always delivered except today. I flagged a maintenance man and he came and cleaned the tablet and trim the grass around the tablet and put water in the vase for me. I almost cried. He was so kind. Thank you! read more

They requested info already provided previously. They had additional paperwork requirements that could have been handled before. The attendant was, well, curt and.completely unsympathetic to this frustration. I received additional phone calls and emails requesting information. My father is buried here and we constantly have to be cutting the grass and maintaining his area because the staff here doesn't. Close to him there's a family member buried from one of the staff here at the cemetery and that area is always cleaned and the grass is cut (how convenient). The fact that a fee is charged in top of being overly expensive to supposedly maintain the area when nothing is maintained. I let go of a space I was paying for me because it's not a stress I want to give my children when I pass. Is it a nice place yes, but not worth the stress. Teach your maintenance how to do their job better. The flowers that were at my parents' plot were not Christmas. Either your team ran over them or they were tossed out as "Christmas ". Just because flowers are red does not constitute "Christmas ". Teach your people the difference. I keep the area near my parents well maintained in the hopes the butchering crew will drive around instead of over this area. It's close enough to the curb, they could easily maneuver going straight and skip running over the tablets here. The only things they excel at are running over flowers and doing a half ass job of mowing the lawn. There are constantly areas that are missed, please do not say the crew was not done, they were not coming back to mow the section they MISSED. It's pretty pathetic that flowers left for loved ones are treated so carelessly. The fact that these are large grounds to maintain is not an excuse to justify any of it. What would be the solution? DO BETTER! There has been ZERO percent improvement in over 10 years. Maybe management needs to be evaluated. read more

My Mom and I try to visit my Dad and my grandparents whenever we are on our way home from our weekend outing at San Gabriel Valley area. Sometimes, we don't get here in time before closing and miss our visit and that's okay. Staff is friendly and do their best in what they can to help the families. Gardeners are very helpful. Main funeral home building is clean and organized. Church is nice. The grounds are very well kept. Please note they do remove the flowers and all in a timely manner especially during special holidays. You just need to pay attention to the signs. I have seen family and friends gathered here with tents, chairs, foods, etc and spend time with their passed loved ones. It is a very heart-warming sight. Our passed loved ones may not be with us in the physical, but they are always with us in spirit. We celebrate them every day. Thank you Forest Lawn Covina Hills for the special attention and care. It took them a long time to upgrade the room with the sinks and vases within the Mausoleum of Christian Heritage. It is nice that it has been upgraded because now I don't have to bring my own pruning shears. The previous pruning shears needed to be sharpened or replaced. Since they only have one pruning shear in the room with two sinks, I still bring my own pruning shears just in case there is someone else in the room. Some people do not know how to share. Then there are some people that actually take flowers that do not belong to them. When I was making an arrangement for my parents, someone took a few of my flowers. Did I say anything? No, I did not say anything to her. I guess I ended up giving flowers to her loved one. There is someone that took the kukui nut leis with orchids that I had ordered from Hawaii. Orchid leis can last about a week. Kukui nut leis last much longer. I placed said leis , and within 3 days they were gone! Now, I place a note when I leave Hawaiian flowers for my parents. I inform them that I'll be coming back. While I brought flowers for my Mom's death anniversary, there was a service. I could not believe that they were digging or drilling, during someone's service. Granted someone with a suit tried to radio in to someone so that the noise would stop, but the noise continued. Later, there was someone that was an employee that was not wearing a suit that went outside and asked them to stop the noise. The noise finally stopped. That noise was the reason why I gave this place 3 stars. I would have been highly upset to have to hear all that noise during my loved ones services. The Mausoleum is 5 stars, but that noise during a service is 1 star. I considered that noise as being very disrespectful. read more

My wife and I are in our mid 80s and decided it was time to plan for our eventual demise in order to take the burden off our children at such a trying time. We opted for cremation and our remains put in a niche together. Our plan was to preplan and prepay for it all. I called Forest Lawn and explained what we wanted to do and they assigned us an individual who specializes in preplanning with the name of Gabriel Rosemond. We set up a time and met him at the Covina Hills location. Gabriel was just excellent. It's not easy talking about a subject like death and he was kind, considerate, understanding and knowledgeable. We spent about 2 1/2 hours with him touring the grounds and talking about exactly what we had in mind. Although Forest Lawn had cremation packages he explained to us that we could customize what we wanted to reduce things we didn't want thereby also reducing costs. He went over every detail and unlike some salespeople never tried to upsell us but just the opposite in helping us decide on less expensive options. We did not make up our mind that day but waited a few days for my wife and I to discuss everything. Then we met with Gabriel once again at their Arcadia location. Once again Gabriel went over everything and once again answered all of our questions which we had a lot of. We then made our decision to go ahead with everything. I can't say enough about how comforting it was dealing with Gabriel and if anyone has thoughts about preplanning your future both my wife and I recommend contacting him. read more

I will give FL 5 stars for the service they provided to our family during the loss of my nephew. They were attentive to our needs listened and heard our requests. The only thing I didn't like is the cost to bury a loved one I mean you don't want to put them in a wooden box you want to send them off beautifully, we didn't go with the most elaborate package and that already was over $20G's, it was like picking off a menu and everything was a cost (nothing is free). There was so many services to choose from it becomes overwhelming to I have to thank the morticians for doing such an excellent job on him we were undecided if we would have an open casket or even let them see him, We were extremely pleased with their work since he had passed away and it was 6 weeks until his services. The remains of three of my beloved family members are buried here. This month I attended my first burial and we had it in lieu of a funeral because of the coronavirus and because it was just too hard for us to have a funeral. Before we attended we made arrangements and got lots of information about tablet types, burial locations, etc. There was good communication back and forth in email and once time I emailed the lady myself and she helped me too. The event cost about $450 and we had no idea how elaborate it would be. I literally thought they would just have a hole and fill it with dirt and that would be it. But that was not it. When we pulled up there was a huge tent and about a dozen chairs all spaced 6' apart. There was a table with a box wrapped in thick gold paper and a sticker on top. That box was my father's remains. Everyone got to say something that we wanted to and the funeral director stepped far away to give us privacy. He was like 20 feet away and I was thankful because we wanted privacy to give our remarks. He had an ice chest with water for us and some white lilies too. I didn't have anything to say (just too hard right now) but my brother wrote a eulogy and it was beautiful. I played a song and a couple others spoke. They gave us as much time as we wanted, there was no rush. When we were done they brought power equipment, which I thought would be nerve-wracking, but it wasn't bad. The gentlemen who buried my father's remains seemed nice and sincere. One of them, Jose, even offered to help my mother down the hill...EVEN with the coronavirus scare this man was willing to put himself at risk by touching my mother to help her walk. What a nice man. I am sure my mother refused because she is scared about the virus. Well that same man saw my mother and I try to toss flowers on top of my father's box once it was in the ground. They happened to be our favorite flowers. Well, my mom's didn't make it, but mine did until my brother shoveled dirt and it got knocked off. Do you know what that Jose did? He offered to retrieve them and put them on top for us! Well, at first I declined because it was going to be a tough job, but he asked again. I accepted and he jumped 4' down into the ground, dug them out of the dirt, placed them so nicely on top, then jumped right out like he was Superman or something. He got covered in dirt over it and I will always remember that he did that for us. I mailed him a thank you card for it. The whole event was very nice. The director, was great, the lady who sold us flowers in the gift shop was super nice (receipt shows Rebeca). They sell little plastic vase stake things that you can stick in the ground to hold up your flower bouquets. The gift shops is right next to the entrance and parking was easy there and at the burial site. You can just drive up to the location where your loved one is buried and park right there near it. They also had a restroom in the gift shop and are limiting to one person at a time because of covid. If you are having your loved ones' remains buried here I recommend a shallow sloping hill, one that will be easy to get to as the years go by. If you bury them on a steeper hill it might be hard. I also recommend going to the place to visit the specific plots if you can. It could help you make the decision. I know they have a very high quality 3D map to show you the spaces, but it's just different in person. read more

My rating it's a stressful time when you have to do this kind of business. Although it's not the people who work there's fault they don't make the prices or the rules but Forest Lawn just nickel and dime you.. tell me why they have to charge you to watch them put your loved one inside the niche? We already pay $450 for them to put the Urns inside then we have to pay another $550 to watch them and they call this a so called service.. we don't want a service we just want to see them be out inside the niche.... On top of all the fees why does it have to take so long the girls that helped us one was training the other one seriously so un organized they meet us with out the contract and they were asking repeated questions if they would if had the contract all their answers would of been in there.. . No one knows what kind of day they are having but when we go take care of business have your business together.... We had a 2:00 appointment and didn't get out of there till 3:45 by our choice we finally left the room when they left to go get the contract and left us in a room for like 30 minutes with no updates... My husband was leaving out of town and I didn't get to see him off because I was waiting for these girls, my sister came on her lunch break and she had to leave. Needless to say we had an email of everything we wanted to take care of so I'm my opinion we should of already had a contract in place.... Not like we can negotiate pricing right!
