Forest Lawn Cemetery is one of the prettiest fairytale places of rest I've ever seen. It really is breathtaking. Dr. Eaton made sure it would be a park like theme; with tons of greenery, fountains, wildlife, and sunshine. The murals, the museum, and the statues just bring it to another level. The religious paintings seem to project through the sun rays, and it just makes this a perfect resting place. The older section is different and can give you the eerie feeling because the markers are huge, old, and a little spooky but, it's a minute drive to the newer area. But, I believe it gives Forest Lawn its beautiful past. read more

This is a very friendly, helpful and welcoming place. I like to visit my grandparents' and great grandparents' spot at least quarterly. The flower shop is just delightful with a lot of variety in flower choices at good values. I don't bother trying to buy flowers before I come because I can find what I need there. Today was an especially excellent day because with the help of a grounds manager, Jaime Rentería, I finally found the spot of my great aunt Ruth. I had previously looked to find her headstone several different times without success. Today I had her plot number but hadn't figured out how to find her spot. Mr. Rentería very kindly helped me to find her, even after I had first given him the wrong number (669 instead of 699.) I think that Forest Lawn in Glendale may have angels working for them and Jaime Rentería is one of them. read more

I came here for one reason--to try to get a photo of the crypt in the mausoleum where Carole Lombard is buried next to her husband when she died--Clark Gable. This Forest Lawn in Glendale is very sensitive to people with cameras. At the Great Mausoleum where Lombard and others of note are buried, there's a guard office inside the door. The guard gave me a few tips on where to see some things--the Last Supper stained glass, the replica of the Pieta, and the area with great stained glass windows on the lower level. His monitor showed about 12 sections of the mausoleum so he could keep track on visitors. The easiest person to find here is Elizabeth Taylor. She at the end of the main entrance hallway in a crypt behind a large angel with the words "In Memoria" above. I did get a photo of that. Just down the hall to the left in the second alcove are Lombard and Gable. I need to go back with someone and have them ask the guard questions while I hop over the chain to that area and get my photo. The grounds of Forest Lawn-Glendale are beautiful and the place is huge. Without a guide from online, you could search for the graves of famous people for a long time and come up with little--or nothing. The art work throughout is amazing. This was my first time at Forest Lawn, unfortunately it's always a sad time when you have to make a trip to the cemetery. Going to the cemetery is a painful experience that stays with you a life time & that can leave you asking, "why"? But we know that He knows what's best! Forest Lawn is so beautiful. it has over 300 acres of gorgeous rolling hills. As you enter, you can't help but notice that the landscaping is well maintained and how green the lawns are. There are fountains, sculptures, all different type of stone art around the grounds, beautiful architectural buildings that are just amazing. There is a museum and a art gallery on site as well. The funeral service was held in one of their small chapels but it was very nice and clean. I found the staff to be very helpful and accommodating to everyone. The burial was about 5 a minute drive up the hillside which had a beautiful view of the surrounding mountains and city. I found it interesting to learn of some of the famous people who have this as their final resting place: Jeanette MacDonald, Sam Cooke, Nat King Cole, W.C. Fields, Sammy Davis Jr., Clark Gable, Humphrey Bogart, Jimmy Stewart, Jean Harlow, George Burns, Walk Disney, Dorothy Dandridge, Chico Marx, Gracie Allen, Alan Ladd, Michael Jackson, Larry, "aka" The Three Stooges. Searching for the Grave of a creative genius was an unplanned, but fruitful adventure! Between meals, Alana and I visit Los Angeles Points of Interests, landmarks, historical buildings, etc. For some reason, I had this cemetery bookmarked. I think it was because I wanted to see Walt Disney's Grave. We eventually found it after we drove through most of this famous cemetery. This is a very spacious piece of land with fabulous landscaping and amazing works of art! We passed by a fountain, some sculptures, a mural, and the cathedral with its awesome architecture. Some day, when we have more time, I'd like to see the Labyrinth and go inside the Cathedral... I'd also return and look for other famous people who were laid to rest here. Visited 5/29/2017 I've been coming to this place for many, many years. My first encounter was as a little girl for a funeral. Been here for several other funerals since. It's as if this place never changes. It ALWAYS looks so neat, tidy, and green. I've taken my youngest here to look at some of the beautiful art. It's FREE!! The museum had something about Disney. Currently there's something about Bowie. I'm hoping to see it before it leaves this June. Today there were 1,000 TALL flags to honor Memorial Day. BEAUTIFUL site. LOVED driving by it everyday after work for about the past week. Such a beautiful site seeing these 1,000 flags blowing in the wind. I went up close, and the flags were over 5 feet!! Since I checked out the flags, I decided to check out the mortuary lobby. Beautifully done. Very tasteful. NOTHING spooky about this place. Standing outside of the building, I couldn't help but think I was in Switzerland staring at chalets. The cobble stones and flowers and plenty of green grass makes it very pleasing to the eye. Granted, at night, it might have a different appeal. Got some burial info from someone named Boots. Very helpful and informative. They have payment plans for a plot for as low as less than $100 a month for a few years. Once it's paid, you get a deed for your plot. I know it's not a easy discussion to have with family members, but just imagine how less painful it will be for your family if you take care of this kind of stuff before you die. I've been working in the health field for way to long to see MANY unprepared families having to deal with a death. In case you didn't know, if the family/loved one don't have enough money for a proper burial, the social worker told me that those cases usually end up at the County in a unmarked grave. We all have interests which some may deem as odd. Perhaps you like to play World of Warcraft or take your ferret on walks. Maybe you like to collect buttons. My odd interest? I like to visit cemeteries. This is mostly due to the celebrities which are memorialized in many of the LA-based grounds... or maybe I am searching for zombies. Either way, I am glad that my interest introduced me to Forest Lawn in Glendale. Glendale's Forest Lawn puts the Hollywood/Burbank location to shame. The initial welcome feels more like entering a palace due to the large fountain and massive gates. The sheer magnitude of the acreage is impressive, as the cemetery twists and turns up to the top of a canyon/hill and looks down on stunning views of mountains and the city of Glendale. Everything shines with the brightest pigments of green, glorious blues of clear skies, and the soft dots of floral colors. The air is clean and except for the chirping of birds; is so quiet that one almost wants to take a nap. Forest Lawn may be the resting ground for those passed on, but it is also a peaceful garden getaway for those still roaming the earth. The cemetery features several churches and buildings which are Tudor and Gothic in style. In fact, the entire cemetery is inspired by England and Britain which is sort of odd and out of place in the Western US but is absolutely terrific for Anglophiles such as myself. I was transported to England, as Forest Lawn has a recreation of a church from Sussex, England, small sculptures and plaques from British folk tales, and a main building with a flower shop which looks like someone literally picked up a Tudor manor from England and relocated it to Glendale. This is terrific for those who can't afford a vacation to England or photographers for weddings, proms, etc. Another highlight is the museum which features rotating exhibits ("The Art of the Block" on my visit) and permanent medieval pieces such as suits of armor and stained glass. Also highlighted are bronze and marble structures plus a back patio with fountains and more insatiable views. Alright, enough about the glorious garden aspects, right? You probably want to know about the celebrities buried here. Forest Lawn is the home of Elizabeth Taylor, Jimmy Stewart, Ethel Merman, Walt Disney, and... Michael Jackson. Sadly, these aren't main features and are tough to find unless you know where to look. Basically, don't expect to just find them off-hand as the lawns are vast. Forest Lawn in Glendale is a "must" for a peaceful, serene, beautiful, and even entertaining escape. If you want to reside permanently, the lobby has a price list of the caskets, services, and plots. Roman, one of the landscape maintenance guys, is awesome. I decided to go to the Forest Lawn in Glendale to put a wreath on my family's grave site and I knew the water vase was going to be a problem if I wanted to bring flowers. The grass grows quickly and before you know it the vase gets buried with the new growth and roots. In the past, I have stood in the street and flagged down security guards on the weekend to help me because it takes a lot of work to get the thing out. You might say, "Why don't you go more often and you won't have that problem?". Well, you know how it goes. Life flies by and you can't seem to go for all the important holidays like "Mother's Day or Father's Day". I can't let Christmas go by without stopping in and putting a little tree or a wreath on the grave site though. Well, getting back to my story. I forgot to call the Maintenance Dept. at Forest Lawn during the week to make sure the grave site was cleaned up before I got there. Instead, I packed up some heavy duty gloves, pruning shears, oil, paper towels and a old milk jug for water. When I arrived at Forest Lawn in Glendale I stopped in at the Gift Shop to pick up a wreath. This was a huge mistake because the prices are always really high and the quality and service are pretty bad. I should really go to Target and get everything to make my own and I think I may do that next year. Then, I proceeded to get back in my car and I headed up the hill to the grave site. Yep, the vase was covered with grass as usual. I really didn't need to use the vase for the wreath, but I just wanted to try to dig it out, so I could use it the next time I visit. I worked on it for a couple minutes and it was impossible to get out because of all the roots. Roman, one of the landscape guys, came up to me and asked if I needed some help and I gladly accepted. He went to his truck to get a little shovel, gloves and more supplies and I ran up to my car to grab some cash to give him when he was done. Yes, it isn't a good idea to leave your handbag in your car, but I could see the car. When he returned he spent about 15 minutes cleaning up the area. I offered to give him a tip for helping, but he said he was not allowed to accept. If anyone from Forest Lawn reads this I would like to say that Roman is a great employee. I will write a letter as well to make sure his bosses know what a great job he does. He is definitely an asset to the company. read more

We put in $2500 and made monthly payments for 4 years at $100 per month. The total paid was $7500. This was for a niche for 4 family members. When we called, they had no record of anything. Finally, they said the contract was canceled for non-payment, yet the total was for $7500 and it was paid. We called again and they said they issued a $4000 refund which we never received. They also said they had sent cancellation notices which we did not receive. Since this location has a different response every time we call, we will be filing a case with the state of California https://www.dca.ca.gov/webapps/cfb/complaint.php as it is clear that they want to sell this niche for $14,000 and not honor their contract for $7500. I'm a bit ambivalent in writing this, as the last time I was here was in the 1990s, and I was still a bit "green" when it came to touring historic cemeteries, and taking photos in said cemeteries. Times have definitely changed in the decades since I was here-- when it comes to taking photos now, there's Iphones and Smartphones, and websites like "Find A Grave." I was armed only with a book called "Permanent Californians" and another, more irreverent book (the title escapes me), in which they referred to the security at this particular cemetery as "Cemetery Nazis" (their words; not mine). The book indicated that they weren't pleasant, and if they saw you with a camera, they were confiscating it. I was staying with friends, had rented a car, and decided to visit as many LA cemeteries and bookstores as I could during the day, spending nights with my friends (my co-workers back East never got my interest in visiting historic cemeteries; they nicknamed me "Obeah Man."). Forest Lawn was often described as the premiere LA cemetery, the most lovely and picturesque, and obviously it had a prominent place on my itinerary. I also wanted to find the gravesite of a distant relative of mine, old time character actor J. Carrol Naish. The person I talked to on the phone told me he was buried here (turns out, he isn't). When I got to the front gate, Irma Grese...sorry, I mean the security person in charge...asked me why I was there. When I told her about Naish, instead of her informing me that I was mistaken and that he wasn't buried there, she simply said, "They weren't supposed to give you that information." But she let me drive in...albeit reluctantly (my camera discreetly tucked away, of course). I wasn't trying to be deceitful, or disrespectful, but I didn't feel that trying to take a photo of the gravesite of an actor(s) whose work I had admired and respected, whose art had provided entertainment and/or escape from some of life's depressing realities during my tenure here on Earth, was somehow the equivalent of trying to heist a company payroll from a Garda truck. My first stop was the Great Mausoleum, where Gable and Jean Harlow are buried, but my inexperience made me timid (I was awkwardly holding my camera under my vest), so I sat numbly with some other tourists, feigning interest in "the Last Supper" exhibit (and having flashbacks to my childhood, when I was forced into attending church). Actors I was more interested in-- W.C. Fields and Lon Chaney-- were entombed on the floors above, which were completely inaccessible to peons like me. I had better luck outside. I found the graves of Errol Flynn and Spencer Tracy, even Walt Disney. At this point, I should mention that the acres of rolling grounds, the trees and foliage, and the distant hills that comprise the scenery are exquisitely beautiful. Even the numerous statues, which might under other circumstances seem tacky, are elegantly artistic. Throughout the cemetery are "private gardens," accessible only to family members with a key. One of my favorite actors, Humphrey Bogart, was buried in just such a "garden." I either got very lucky, or Humphrey's shade was in the vicinity, and decided I was in need of a break. Gardeners were pruning trees and bushes, and the garden door was unlocked and ajar. My timidity deserted me. I moved boldly into the garden like a family member, located Humphrey's modest marker, and took my photo. I disturbed or intruded on no one in mourning, and like to think I conducted myself with discretion and respect. At the very least, I don't think Humphrey would have minded. The "Freedom Mausoleum" wasn't so closely guarded, and I was able to get photos of the graves of Chico Marx, Larry Fine, Gracie Allen (George Burns was still among the living at the time), and Clara Bow. These days, I imagine taking photos, given the technology, isn't so restrictive or difficult (although I have to believe that getting a photo of Liz Taylor or Michael Jackson's last resting place isn't gonna be easy). I get the need for respect, and dignity, and that families...whether related to "stars" or not...should be able to mourn in private, without fans or gawkers intruding on their grief. But...well, it is LA. At the risk of sounding callous...doesn't it come with the territory? With other "celebrity" cemeteries in LA, it didn't seem to be such an issue. Still...maybe that's why Cagney, Edward G. Robinson, Mae West, John Garfield, and Joan Crawford chose to be buried in NY, instead of LA. read more

Those could be the opening lines of my one heck of a mediocre one-act play based on the ingredients of a cemetery, museum, and Lego. Speaking of mediocrity, Nathan Sawaya's 'Art of the Brick' Lego constructions are skillfully done but I wouldn't call any of it art. It's a small exhibit displayed in one gallery. There are various human figures, items (such as a bat and skateboard), and one-dimensional images displayed on the wall. Even children seemed pretty bored with it all. Conclusion: Lego, like a puzzle, is pretty limited as an artistic medium. read more

One of the best kept Forest Lawns I have been to. I have been coming here for over 30 years, this place is huge! Family has been here for years. It is a little awkward to talk about this final resting place. Drive to the top of the hill, to the Chapel, or Court of Freedom to see DTLA or the city. Great place of contemplation, grounding and serenity. So tranquil within the City of Glendale just outside of LA. Don't need a yoga studio to meditate and pray. With great sculptures, mausoleum, Chapel and miles of roads, great place to get lost and then to be found. One of the better places to invest in the future. stay on higher ground. read more

I like this place a lot.... Not because I know anyone buried here but because the attention to detail placed on all the murals and statues is amazing. If you have ever driven the grounds or walked through the Mausoleums you would see some beautiful statues, paintings, stained glass windows, and creative burial areas for those who wanted flair in the afterlife!!! If you're looking for a nice area to jog this could be your place with hundreds of acres of paved road & plenty of hills this is a runner's paradise. There are plenty of Potable water spots all around for those who need a little hydration or would like to add aqua to plants... There are some nice areas to park and look over different parts of the city for those camera enthusiasts but just remember that actual pictures of the graves are prohibited or that's at least what the sign reads... read more

In October 2017 my father passed away and I know I wanted him to be close by to me so I chose the Glendale location. The appointment was rather easy because I called and I was immediately set up with Sandra. Everything was well taken care of and everything went well. Sandra showed me the Inspirational slope side and I got the double plot. She wasn't pushy or anything which was great. Came down to the day of my father's viewing, everything was neat, clean, and my dad looked like he was just sleeping because the cosmetics they did was natural per request when they called. The next day was the burial and we had a mass at The Church of the Recessional. The only complaint I have is when they cut the grass, they seem to always miss my dad's area and I would have to complain to the front office. Aside from that everything is good. read more

They put my sister in the wrong urn. They couldn't find the urn that I had taken me over four weeks and close to 40 emails to order. It was "somewhere in the warehouse" according to Hilda. Not trusting them with my sister's remains I had them removed from the incorrect urn in front of me. This was done with a Milwaukee drill. It was catching a bit at the bottom and Hilda, who is supposed to be the manager, tried to use a plastic coffee store to leaver it open. Thankful cremated remains have a metal ID tag on them. checking that against the coroner's paperwork I was able to confirm that it was my sister that they put in the wrong urn and presented to me. I repackaged her into back into basic plastic box, patting the bag of ashes to fit. Even if Forest Lawn finds the urn I ordered, I will not be going back. Later looked online, they have a D- from the BBB. Still looking to order a nice urn for my sister. read more

Came here for obvious unfortunate circumstances but the chapels and the whole grounds are beautiful. It's so nice to have a beautiful serene place like this in Los Angeles. The place has a couple chapels/churches in its property. The whole grounds is well kept and maintained with dignity. The staff are respectful & accommodating to every family's unique needs. My mom passed away in May 2023 & funeral was held in June 2023. We had our dad move few days after funeral to same plot as my mom so they can be finally laid to rest together after 30 years of being apart. I get an email from Forest Lawn Glendale stating, missing info in November 2023 so tablet could not be submitted. Eventually Forest Lawn found that they had the info needed all along but neglected to check their notes. So now Christmas & New Years came and it's January 2024 now and still no tablet. I liked Forest Lawn, been visiting my dad for the last 30 years, my grandma, aunts, uncles are all there but this is worst service I've ever experienced. Erik S from Forest Lawn was supposedly overseeing my case, but he did so poorly & neglected his task so now I just have to wait and wait and wait. To top it off, no apologies. I've asked to escalate but no response. I have families visiting but can't locate my parents without the tablet. I guess we're out of luck. read more

I like to update my review. We had another great meeting with Zohrab "Joe" Zabounian, who is a planning advisor. He delivered great customer service and is punctual, respectful, and understanding. We later found out he was at the Hollywood location. My siblings, Mom, and I had a scare because the viewing was scheduled at 12pm - 12:15pm. When we talked to Maricar explaining the situation she was understanding and allowed us to wait for my uncle and his family to arrive. Once we were all present Belinda escorted us to my dad's room. The monetary was gorgeous and elegant. And my dad's makeup done by Gabriel was perfect. His face looked natural and healthy. He did a great job. The makeup was even without clumps. On the day of the service we had Robert, Esly, and Carlos who help with the program of the ceremony to the funeral. Everything was perfectly smooth. Writing this for a friend. Don't ever not place every wish, potential issue, and I mean everything your family wants in a written document "witnessed sealed certified whatever it takes" before you buy from Forest Lawn. Create an airtight will where every contingency real or possibly imagined is expressed in a document give to Forest Lawn and witnessed by friends and documented with a photo. BE CAREFUL!! My friend, a family estate trustee, and the beloved friend of 38 years to a gentleman that recently passed away, was told by Forest Lawn's legal department, on a recorded call, that their remaining empty prepaid family lot would not ever used because of the above. They refused to fulfill the deceased wishes. HORRID. All this was due to the fact that the family didn't know they had to specifically name the person in the fourth, yet to be used, plot in a will or written doc stating that fact and have it registered with their legal department. They coldly stated to the grieving trustee that she would never be buried with her best friend as were his final wishes. They apparently do not "give legal advice" but do gladly take your money for purchases that are ill defined at best. So the fact that the family purchased 4 plots, one for the father and mother, and one for the son and his best friend, to be buried alongside him, will never be realized. They just take your money and have legal give you a canned sorry legal speech as to your own failing not to know some archaic non realty rule that pertains to grave lots. They conveniently never mention the rules which govern this upon sale. The single gentleman and both his deceased parents made the error of purchase thinking they could use all four plots as they wanted. Not so. The fourth space that was to be his best friends, upon her passing, will remain empty due to them not knowing they had to spell it out in documents. So he'll be laid to rest alone for eternity. Disgusting behavior when all they needed to do was point that out to the father or son who could have added the fourth plot identity of the best friend. Instead they pocket the prepaid all covered funeral money and fourth lot will remain empty because everyone is dead and they get off scott free to steal without recourse. I wonder how many of these convenient things occur to add to their bottom profit line. According to the lady who spoke with the trustee this happens a lot. SHAME ON YOU. read more

Planning a funeral is very emotional. Planning one for a child is even more so. Having the right person help you through the process is so important. We we're blessed to have Gina Krotee work with us. Her genuine warmth and empathy meant so much to us. She walked us through the process, step by step, with such kindness and compassion. A stately and beautiful, hilly cemetery. Though well known, this was my first time coming. Church of the Recessional was located at the very top of the hill. Magnificent and sweeping, crowning in majesty, with gorgeous views of the hills and landscape. Sad occasion to come and visit, to be sure. The prettiest memorial park that even beats the Piedmont one in Oakland! Needed to consult the map, because it's quite easy to get lost! read more

Forest Lawn has taken care of my family's time of need on several occasions over the past 30 years. I make regular visits and the grounds are always well kept. There are sculptures, paintings and nice architecture throughout this property worth noting. I never had a problem with funeral or burial services arranged through Forest Lawn. They make sure the details are taken care of so you are not distracted and can focus on the more important things. read more
