From flowers to soaps, vegetables to donuts, fruit to teas, knives to artisan creations, tie-dye…read moret-shirts to smoothies and chili dogs, the South Windsor Farmers Market has it all!! Set in the open Nevers Road Park, this market offers a variety local goods and a fun morning. When my friends and I walked over from nearby parking areas (which were plentiful and easy to get to), the smells of freshly cooked donuts from Faddy's Donut Shop and the sounds of a Grateful Dead tribute band met us. After grabbing some donuts, instead of sitting in the nice rest area set up near the band, we began down the line of stands. We found a little of everything we wanted and more!! We grabbed a couple slices of pie from Granny's Pie Factory, a brown butter dark chocolate chip cookie from LaBrioche Bakery, a couple of jars of homemade artisan teas from Whole Harmony, and a bouquet of freshly picked flowers from the Syme Family Farm. Shopping here can get a bit pricey, for example, a South Windsor Farmers Market tote bag was $5; however, you're supporting local businesses, many of which don't have storefronts. It's well worth chipping in a few extra bucks with the quality of the goods and the personal attention you receive at the stands. I would rather save my money and spend it here than at big chain stores that don't need it. Every vendor we went to, especially the individuals at the Syme Family Farm and the Whole Harmony stands, were extremely kind and helpful. The vendor of Whole Harmony allowed us to try a couple of teas he had out as well as the lavender lemonade (all of which were extremely delicious); he also told me how to properly steep the teas and gave me a loyalty card that offers a free jar after ten purchases. The vendors at the Syme Family Farm stand told me how they handpicked each flower, and wrapped up my bouquet--which was thoughtfully put together with care--and put it in a plastic baggie with wet paper towels around the stems to keep the flowers hydrated after I asked if they would be all right since we were not going directly home. I was very impressed by these two vendors' professionalism and kindness. The South Windsor Farmers Market is definitely a farmers market you need to check out!! It's open every Saturday in the morning (which is an extremely convenient and great time) from the middle of June until the middle of October. The organization running also has a list of what vendors will be there each week on a document on the website. You'll really enjoy every minute of being at this market, and you will undoubtedly find spectacular goods!!

Enfield Farmer's Market operated for several years on Wednesdays and its late afternoon and evening…read morehours may have worked for some, but it was dwindling. Now. it's back on Sundays from 10am-1pm, and the town seems to have provided tables, tents and a lot more space, no longer at the Pond, but now on the Town Green, at N Main and Rte. 5. The vendors are invited to sell their goods with no spot cost, and admission for shoppers is free, family friendly and a fun activity. But, the best part is getting to know the local vendors, who have businesses in town or close by, and who are friendly and helpful, offering many more things than the old one. There is a lack of produce there, but what is there is beautiful and affordable. We got curly kale for $2, and zucchini, eggplant, and yellow squash for $3 each. We recommend these two vendors get cards made so we can review them and bring them more business. There's jewelry, crafts, bath products, masks, beef, soup mix, ice cream, produce (we need more), and freshly baked pizza. And more. We bought a raspberry-chocolate jam at another spot, and tasted it last night--absolutely fresh, home-made and delicious. We will buy some beef next time from Collins Powder Hill Farms, and maybe even go out to the farm in Enfield for other products. These also sell/deliver compost and soil. Wow. We loved Barb Gibson at Super Soups, and had a lovely chat with her about her ingredients. She was researching oils, so we told her to nix Canola and get to know Sustain, the non-GMO sunflower oil. She was friendly, receptive and caring, and that will make us loyal customers. Her 30 minute soup mixes look awesome. Welcome back vendors. We will be there every Sunday till you close September 27, and now that we know you, we will also visit your businesses. Shop local! And thank you to Enfield Town. You did this one right.

"Lazing on a sunny afternoon In the summertime, in the…read moresummertime" (The Kinks) Spending a few sunny afternoon hours at the Westfield Farmer's Market was a great choice on a gorgeous summer day. They are open every Thursday from12PM-5PM between June 5th and October 16th, and this was our first visit. We found it on Court Street on the grounds of the Episcopal Church of the Atonement. You'll find it easily - just look for the trade show booths and tents. Parking is plentiful on any of the adjacent side streets. The market grounds are well spaced and were quite enjoyable to stroll around and browse. We saw vendors selling produce, flowers, dairy products, jams and jellies, raw honey, cider, meads, maple products, breads, baked goods, coffee, crafts, and lemonade. We even saw a pizza vendor with a mobile pizza oven! Oh, and there was live music too. We usually gravitate toward the food vendors, so yesterday was no exception. We bought a delicious Blondie from Sarah's Gluten Free Baked Goods, a decadent Cinnamon Roll from Sweet J J's, and an amazing container of mixed mushroom shapes and sizes from South Hadley's Livingstone Mycology. I've never seen such a rainbow of mushroom colors, including yellows and pinks. I can't wait to toss them in a frying pan with some oil, soy and Hoisin sauce, a spoon of Chili Crisp, and a handful of shrimp! Well done, Westfield Farmer's Market. See ya again on a future Thursday afternoon.
