Finally popped in after months of being told to. What an array of produce as you walk in. Definitely got wide eyed as I walked though and made my way to the deli. I couldn't decide what to eat so kept it simple and got roast beef, turkey, cheese, lettuce and spinach. Got home and knew I did well. Couldn't help but get some yogurt covered raisins too. If I hadn't grocery shopped the days prior I would have gotten some soups and other frozen meals to take home. Will most certainly be back! read more

AC Produce is the best place to go if you want a fresh, tasty and healthy salad. They have the best fresh pre-packaged salads in the back of the store. You can have the lady behind the salad bar add to the pre-packaged salad if you desire something extra or she can make you your salad to order. They also have some pasta salads you can order by the pound. I have tried a pasta with grilled chicken as well as a tomato bowtie salad with salad which was absolutely amazing. The prices are pretty reasonable as well. When you first walk in you see the fruits to the right and the vegetables right in front. They sell cookies, small sliced banana bread, apple, bread, you name it. Truly a diamond in the rough. There is no seating to have lunch or dinner there so you have to take your food to go, but as good as it is, I just take my food and go home and know that I am eating healthy. The staff are pretty pleasant and helpful. The store is always clean as well. They can cater also. read more

I have always gone for their produce but I was talked into getting a sandwich by a coworker. Frigos is my go to usually. I will never get another sandwich again. First, let me be clear that the ladies in the produce section are wonderful and polite. Different ball game when you round the corner to the deli. One girl basically threw the mayonnaise packets at me when requested. My roast beef grinder was placed in the over with the lettuce and tomato on it also. I'll stick with Frigos. Well, it's tough to even get a table in this place around lunch, but because some reviewer didn't get a job (and I think I see why!) and somebody else wasn't greeted, they have a lousy rating and that ain't cool. This place is the bomb, you won't do any better in Springfield, that's for sure. Tons of pasta selections, with meat and veggies for around $5.50 a pound, amazing salads for $5, killer sorbets for $3 a pint, paninis, fresh produce at very reasonable prices etc etc. Don't listen to the bitter straight-o-phobe, check it out. I work downtown spfld and this is one of my lunch spots. I have tried most of the sandwiches and wraps ( portobello wrap, veggie panini and the Reuben are my favorites), everything is made fresh. We narrowed down the common food to be that from AC Produce and called the owner. Tony and his wife were not interested in what we had to say. They insisted that it could not have been their food. We asked for a refund and they said no! No apology, no refund, no taking responsibiliity for their product. One of the things I like about this place is that when you call, you get a real person, no voice mail. I find their produce to be fresh and varied. I have had a couple of prepared items from there, and thought they were excellent, and I cook a lot. Something of theirs that I always keep in my freezer is sliced and breaded eggplant, so I can put together an eggplant Parmesan in no time at all. Next time you make it use provolone instead of mozzarella; you'll get another layer of flavor. read more

This place is a gem in the South End. The outside of the building is not too attractive, but you can't judge a book by its cover. Fresh local produce - in most cases they tell you where it was grown. Prices are competitive with the big markets. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Their prepared food area has great Italian food, freshly cooked, and their deli sandwiches are worth the wait at lunchtime (get there early!). Inside this produce market is pretty cute, but the energy and atmosphere are lacking big time. I did not get so much as a "Hello" upon walking in. (Mind you the only 2 people in the market were employees stocking produce). They were conversing amongst each other, looked my way, and went about their own personal business. I wandered around a bit.. the produce quality looked good, but prices were iffy..(they were selling a watermelon for $5.99 that was selling for 3.99 at Stop & Shop). I saw some things that peaked my interest, but I could not reason spending my money at a place in which I don't even feel welcome. I headed towards the door, and of course, there was no "Goodbye!" or "Take care!" or "See you next time!". The products they sell may very well taste good, but the non-existent customer service left a bad taste in my mouth. This place has potential, but I won't be going back. read more

Being new to the area and being used to having quality and diverse produce readily available I was panicked when I first moved here last year. I'm gay and never felt unwelcome. Sure, they didn't jump on me as soon as I walked in or verbally hound me while shopping (I was shopping for produce not a car) but the selection and freshness keeps us going back over and over and over. If you're looking for that fruit or veg that isn't at S&S or Big Y, which let's admit is a TON of produce, if you want to pick your own and not have to buy pre-wrapped green peppers for an astronomical price then this is the place. If you only want to be chatted up, then buy something and check out....the cashiers are always wonderful, friendly, ask YOU questions etc. If you're only looking for a friend, join a book club. As for the deli, it is always clean and the food back there look amazing as well - I've just never bought any. Give it a shot. We LOVE it! read more
