Lovely park, it's HUGE. I normally go to my local Kissena Park but there was a murder there recently so I think I am going to visit some other parks for a while. While looking for ideas on the nyc parks website I noticed that they were having a fall festival so I figured what a great time to go. The festival was in Victory field and we drive around the Forest Hills side of the park, then the Kew Gardens and Richmond Hill side all the way around to the Woodhaven side so we really got a grasp of how big this park really was. Lot's of places to explore. We didn't venture into the golf course side on this visit but may be on a future visit we will. I have a feeling I will have to come back several more times to really get a feel for everything this park has to offer. The festival was fun. There were three different sized bouncey houses depending on the childs age range. There was a puppet show, a theater performance of shrek, jugglers on stilts, a mini hay maze with pumpkin patch, the fire department was there giving out fire hats and letting kids sit in the truck and honk the horn. The turnout was massive. The line for the pumpkin patch took a while but everywhere else like arts and crafts and games it went fairly quickly. We didn't get to pick our own pumpkin or take photos in the patch. The pumpkins were handed to us due to high demand and to ensure the line went faster. I can't really complain, we still got a free pumpkin. They also gave out candy, and cute little Halloween bags to the kids. Fun times, we'll be back! read more

This is such a wonderful park. You can do just about anything in its spacious grounds. There are plenty of well-maintained athletic facilities, including a nice stadium-sized running track. There's a scenic bridle path. And there are so many gorgeous trees. The downed trees are even spectacular, and form an ecosystem all their own. I love it here, all year round! read more

Love this park! When God gives me some free tome for myself, love walking there. They have lots of things there- playgrounds, fountains, horseback riding. The park is huge! Forest Park is a windy and hilly 538 acres with natural hiking and horse-riding paths through what is called "knob and kettle" terrain, thanks in large part to a glacier that passed through about 20,000 years ago. Despite a few years of lumbering and a chestnut blight in 1912, the park is filled with healthy, tall, natural growth, 150-year-old trees (hickories, black cherries, dogwoods) that create canopies. I guess my review will be a little biased because I used to run in this park with my father as a kid & all my high school buddies had games at Victory Field. If you're looking for a good peaceful run, Forest Park Drive is your best bet. Very scenic and quiet; you don't have to worry about being heckled (if you're a woman runner like me). There's also a pretty carousel by the Bandshell (near Woodhaven Blvd.) that I used to adore as a child; I took my niece there a few times & she loves it too. If you're in the area and have kiddies that need to run around, or YOU need to go for a run, go here! ohh but don't go here at night though. Definitely not safe. Note: We went to the dog park section of this park. This dog park is located on Park Lane South between 84th and 85th. Really no complaints at all, except when we went, there were not many dogs (not sure if it's always this way). Also parking is difficult. There's street parking right near the dog park, but we also noticed a park parking lot a bit farther from the dog park. Yay! Green space inside a city, the concrete jungle. I've run a 5K race here, gone for walks, played in the parks. It's so important and vital to have these spaces. I wish there were more of them. Flushing/Corona is vast, but also has bunch of stuff in it, and highways around it. Cunningham is farther away. Alley Pond is even further for me. So this is a close park for me and I like it. Horay for Forest Park. I love it that parks are in here, and Yelp isn't just about materialism, shopping and buying things. Experiences are much more satisfying than things. read more

Hands down, this is THE best park in Queens. The whole point of a park is an escape from it all and Forest Park doesn't disappoint. Over 500 acres of parkland, most of it undisturbed from back when dinosaurs roamed the Earth. Lots of trees and trails for a run, hike, or scenic walk. But hey, if that isn't your thing, there is golf, tennis, handball, running track with bleachers, multiple ballfields and playgrounds, horseback riding, and when things are normal again, a gorgeous Carousel. Don't forget the entertainment either at the Bandshell. So bring the workout gear and/or your four-legged training partner and leave the headphones at home! read more

Peaceful, not crowded, mildly wild. A good place to stroll around looking for isolation and tranquility. I can see solitary females getting a little netvous walking by themselves, though, as sometimes there are some male creeps hanging out. I wouldn't come here with low lighting. read more

This is a huge park near my neck of the woods. I was here two weeks ago pushing my son in his stroller on our daily morning walk. I made sure to stay on the Woodhaven Blvd perimeter so I was only able to see a playground area, the carousel and some sort of field for playing on this occasion. I'd love to go further in but unfortunately due to safety concerns I have based on past news articles, I can't say that I'll be doing that anytime soon. But I will be back when the weather is warmer with my family to check out that carousel and to hopefully get a better picture of it. read more

Ah! This megapark is a favorite. Hiking trails, closed-down roads perfect for biking, hidden kettle ponds, an historic carousel, great views from the ridges in winter, bridle trails, golf (if you're into that sort of thing), bandshell, and all the usual playgrounds and athletic facilities. While far from pristine (you'll find beverage containers floating in the pond, and can hear the Parkway or other traffic throughout, not to mention the LIRR), given its location in the center of New York City this is a pretty special place. Forest Park trail (starting from Metropolitan Ave) is one of the best places to run, relax and get great exercise. Along the 1 1/4 mile trail (if you stop at Woodhaven) there are many trees, giving it a very nice wooded area in the middle of Queens. Great for the summer time because of all the trees. Very pretty in the winter, but be careful of the slick and shiny black ice! The trail extends past Woodhaven Blvd, adding an extra mile to your workout. Back and forth it's safe to say it's about a 4.5 - 5 mile run. I have yet to trust my GPS watch. :) Been a fan since 2005! read more

Beautiful well kept park . There's victory field for the track and soccer , handball courts . The trails are great and across from victory field is a play ground with one of the oldest carousels in NYC. I recommend checking it out , come riding on your bike along the trails. read more

It would get a fifth star if there wasn't the ubiquitous NYC litter and occasional homeless dude. If you go during the day it's a fantastic place to jog and an even better place to walk the dog. You can stay on the bridle path, yes you'll see horses on occasion, or you can go on the path less traveled and do some easy off-road hiking. It's one of the only places in NYC where if you placed a stranger in the middle of it they would never guess they were somewhere in NYC. It's never really crowded except sometimes a local high school cross country or track team is there running on a weekday after school. read more

I moved to Woodhaven from Brooklyn largely because the neighborhood is on the edge of Forest Park, one of the most undersung natural areas in the city. There are gorgeous hiking trails, easy ones and wilder, more hilly ones, and in the spring and fall the trees are especially beautiful. Bird-watchers love to go to Strack Pond, which is also in the park. The place is a true respite from the energy and asphalt. There are also two dog runs, a farmer's market, many playgrounds, and lots of activities. Worth a trek, especially if you have a dog. I take long walks with mine in and around the park daily, and we love it. read more

The park is perfect for walking and enjoying nature without really ruffing it. The trails are for the most part well marked and although you do come across a unleashed dog ever so often it does not take away from the experience. I would definitely recommend not walking the trails at night or too early in the morning, just use judgement. read more

This park is the place to be hiking with your dog. Whether it's you're fussy time hiking or you're a seasoned gower these trails do not disappoint. Is the best of both worlds: woodsey enough to feel like tow upstate or in jersey and local enough to make it been in time for drinks with friends and not spend the whole hour on the road. They have a very nice 630pm group Monday through Friday and on the weekends at 930am at the road of Park lane south and Myrtle. read more

Anyone who lives in the Richmond Hill/Kew Gardens/Forest Hills area is proud to say that these neighborhoods are loaded with history, and Forest Park is a resonant marker of Historic Queens. Just a few minutes from either the E or J train stations (depending on what part you go to), this place is a completely different world, devoid of surrounding gentrified highrises, hipsters having picnics, and overpriced pop-up cafes and burger/taco/meat trucks. This is nature at its finest. The paved road through the park is great for running, biking, walking, or even people watching as the oldies tend to do on the benches. It is a great way to go the "scenic route" if you need to get from Metropolitan Ave to Woodhaven Blvd and vice versa, or cut right into it from the middle at Myrtle Ave and Park Lane. The track at Victory Field is newly renovated, and though always full of people, never too busy. I ran a 4 mile race through the track, path, and trails of this park and it has greatly deepened my appreciation for this place. The trails go in so deep that you stop hearing car traffic, and when you look up the trees create a canopy blocking out the sky. You won't find anything like this in any other borough. Bring your iPod for a nice relaxing walk, or leave it behind to enjoy the sounds of nature. Keep your eyes on the lookout for woodland cuties; rabbits, chipmunks, birds and raccoons(!) call this place home. And watch out for horse poop as people take their noble steads through the bridle paths. read more

This park is spectacular, a serious gem in Queens that you must visit. If you live in Queens, then you have no excuse not to go! My favorite part of this park are the trails, which are nicely marked and wind through trees and some nice scenery the further you venture. The map, which someone has so kindly provided, gives you a decent preview and speaks louder than my words, so go see it for yourself. If venturing through the forest doesn't peak your interest, don't worry they have plenty of paved paths and, during the warmer months, grass to frolic in. read more

I was impressed wth the amount of parking they provide especially because they are in Queens. It is easy to get to and has lots of space for multiple events. We went to a birthday party for a 1 year old which was held near the carousel. They have a fenced in area with their own picnic tables space for strollers, gifts and belongings. They also provide a little magic show which the kids seem to thoroughly enjoy! The carousel was nice (even though it reminded me of American Horror Story and I was afraid Lady Gaga the vampire was going to steal my child) and there was a little train that went around too. There was also a concession stand with goodies and I imagine it sold the tickets for the 2 rides. It was a great place to have a birthday party and didn't feel crowded, I was not even aware of the other parties going on as they make good use of the space to give you your privacy! read more

Anyone up for run, biking, walk, hiking and smell the pot? Now I got your attention this park is huge. You can start entering from Metropolitan Ave and walk to the track that about 3 -4 mile. Please don't quote on the the actual distance. As you walk towards the track you will be accompanied by shady trees, benches, cute squirrels and even horse manure. How and when the horse are unknown to me. I have yet to actually see a horse yet I still see horse manure. This park allows dogs and to my surprise most of the dog owners properly remove the "waste". As for the track area it has stadium lights. Most of the times soccer games take place. Many people watch the games on the bleachers. Of course their views may be obstruct from the joggers.Often times there is soccer game going on. There is area for your calisthenics. I have actually seen cross fit workout taking place here . Please note that each completed circle around the track is .25 miles. There is a water fountain and a hand ball court. I have yet to use them. I am not too sure about the parking but you can probably find a post of you driving around. You can go for runs, hikes and even bike through the trails but unless I have partner , I ain't going. My favorite park in NYC so far, pure nature. When you're in the trails it's like you're not in NYC, I frequent this park with my two dogs and they just absolutely love it here. I have walked and ran through Forest Park. I enjoy going on the trails off the paved parts of the park. If you do, you will really think you are in a forest outside of NYC. Once I even went there with a stool and sat down and read the book of Joshua. It's a nice place. read more

I love this big park because it's a playground to all activities. I mean, they have golf courses, skate/snowboarding grounds in the winter and you can also walk, drive, and even ride your bike here! There's also an amphitheater where you can possibly watch plays and even attend high school graduations like in my case back in 2007 when I graduated from high school and there's also some Italian hillbilly rednecks a.k.a. urban cowboys in the area who also like to do their fun activities there as well (no offense.) You can also go hiking in an urban area like this place because you feel like an urban jungle man hiking through the woods in a metropolitan area full of basketball courts and young children playing ball and tag with their parents in which you do see that happening and they got a bathroom with the Queen's buses stopping right there in front of it! read more

There is no dog park here, which kind of ticks me off because they advertise one online if you search for dog parks in queens. Forest park is a BIG park. There's a tunnel under the Jackie Robinson that leads to other side. You can catch this park from myrtle, Jamaica Ave, Metropolitan, Jackie Robinson, forest park drive, Woodhaven...it's like the never ending park in queens. There's a kiddy play area which is relatively small in comparison to the overall park, and there is also a basketball/ handball court. I've never walked any of the paths. I've pretty much stuck to the outskirts by the streets I listed above. My friend lives right by here and she likes to go "camping" in Forest park. She said it's really creepy, but I'm definitely going to try that out sometime, and then I'll tell ya how it went. read more
