Please read James L's review here. Basically mirrors my experience. Forest View Animal Hospital knew about my sick dog, then stalled a week for a diagnosis that never came. My dog had pancreatic issue, I had to go to ER, couldn't wait for their appt in five days. No choice but the ER, blood and bile. . Finally on a Tuesday Forest View ran a battery of tests. ($444 visit, which I would assume would include READING the results!) Results Thursday, they said. Vet in surgery that day. I'm a reasonable person, but I needed results, waited in office in the corner quietly. Rude tech marched out and said." You need to leave." So I went, being told she'd call that day. In office until 6 pm. NO call. The next morning, I called. Told she was out sick (yet again!) so I lost my temper. My dog is a member of my family. We are up to 8 days here! Pancreas issues can be serious. Bloodwork was in, but she didn't keep her word and call the day before. Still can't wrap my Mind around it. And I'm the villain/ haha. I also had an ultrasound scheduled with them which they weren't sure I needed. This vet cares about animals when she's feeling well but if she isn't, too bad for the animals (and us.) And somehow we are supposed to sit idly by, be all sweet while they blow us off, wondering when they are going to step up. Not anymore. They kicked me to the curb because I was disrespectful. What a joke. Above is the back story of what happened before I lost my temper. This vet needs a back up vet when she's out, even if it's a day. Ridiculous. Ego and stubbornness over the welfare of animals. Other examples too. Last year I dropped off my dog at 830 am for teeth cleaning, told he'd be done at 2. They started procedure at 3. No call, nothing. Was told how long a dog could survive without food or water! He came home at 5, couldn't walk well from anesthesia. Still not the same. Shameful. What's on me is I continued to go there after several (more) bad experiences. I "drank the kool aid" about loving animals. I believe there's a lot of 5 star ratings here because their animals were not in a bad way. Just my opinion. My advice/ don't take the chance here. Stay clear. If you have a serious issue with your animal, don't expect them to take it seriously. There are just too many obstacles. Poor communication, no back up, unreliable vet etc. Not worth it. Been with Forest View 19 years - when Dr Sholts retired it all changed. Just because it's Forest View doesn't mean it's Dr Sholts. read more

I've been coming to Forest View for about a year. I thought I could put up with the mediocrity since they already knew my pets, but they've finally pushed me to find a better spot (shouldn't be too hard). Every test that was recommended came with a promised date when we would get results for our sick pet. EVERY time they didn't contact us and we'd need to chase them down for results. We'd get the "oh - the vet is pretty busy and your results are probably in a pile" - EVERY time. Not once did they actually follow through on time without us chasing. Then, they sent us home with an IV bag for our cat for us to administer (for which we were of course charged). The bag leaked out before we ever had a chance to use it. I came in to get a replacement and was astounded that, after spending a LOT of money with them over the last few months, they had the nerve to charge me a second time to replace the faulty IV bag they gave me. The person with whom I spoke was rude and clearly has little regard for taking care of customers. The it's "not our problem" approach was the final straw for me. Previously this was a 2-star review, but I'm ammending it to 1 star now. Since first leaving this review Chewy wanted to validate our cat's need for renal food and Forest View responded by telling them that they didn't have our cat in their system. You may not like me or my feedback, but if you really care about the well being of pets and animals, you would not create hurdles for my sick pet getting his prescription food. Truly awful behavior for a vet, and makes me 100% confident that this is a place that cares more about revenue than taking care of your pets. They clearly can't see the forest from the trees. They can do a lot better. You can do a lot better going somewhere else. read more

Ha! I guess they saw this and it got to them because when they canceled the appointment they said that the amount I paid already would cover everything and today I got a bill in the mail. This place is a joke. I had this place rated 5 stars as I thought it was a place that actually cared but I couldn't have been more wrong. I had been taking my dog Sophie there and a month before we had to put her down not only did the doctor miss a tumor that was already growing but the reason why I am giving them 1 Star (I wish I could give a negative score) is because I took my dog there a couple days ago and it turned out that tumor grew into a large mass.. the doctor told us the needed surgery was going to be 9....... ...... hundred dollars. I thought we found a savior!!! We agreed immediately. Then the morning of her surgery the vet office calls and says they can't do the surgery because a vet tech called off and the vet CAN'T do the surgery with her.. and the next time they would be able to schedule the surgery was LATE NEXT week. That's BS.. if he had to charge more than that he could've told us. But I don't believe that they couldn't do the surgery AND also not to be able to see her in almost two weeks when he knew that she needed IMMEDIATE surgery. Waste of crucially needed time read more

All that matters to this clinic is the bottom line. Forget about patient loyalty and empathy towards pet owners and helping to make a most difficult situation a little bit easier as the loss of a pet is drawing near. When your pet is sick and dying (my dog was a patient here for 16.5 years) they quickly showed me to the door with no empathy or compassion. Their end of life protocol is appalling. My 16.5 years of being a loyal patient meant absolutely nothing when it came down to my time of need in trying to help my dog when she was sick, and ultimately dying, and asking for two weeks to be seen during normal business hours. This was not a middle of the night request to be seen. They simply didn't care - "just take her to the ER," was their bothered response. There is no loyalty or compassion to lifelong patients. There is no kindness, empathy or compassion for end of life care. Instead of providing loving care to a dying animal that was their patient for its entire life, and giving much needed professional support, kindness, care and concern to a distraught pet owner through a heart breaking situation, they choose to ignore my repeated requests for an office visit. I was repeatedly told that they don't have time and instructed me to go elsewhere. There was absolutely no flexibility or special consideration for a dying, geriatric, life long patient. I strongly suggest going elsewhere for veterinary care. They are corporate owned, so again, it's about the bottom line. They don't care about you or your pet. My dogs got a dental cleaning and it felt so transactional. The nurse and the vet treated me and my dogs like this was our first visit ever with them. Hello? We were just there a few weeks ago getting annual vaccinations administered. You welcomed me weeks ago, notice your clients when they visit you more than once, don't act like a welcoming committee and make me feel awkward and just like another number by knowing you do not remember me. Right away the vet pointed out flaws in each of my dogs. "This one will have this problem in the future". "This one will have this problem in the future". I'm sorry but this was just a pre-dental visit not a full exam to make me think of all the horrible things to come in the future for my dogs. Thank you for making me feel like crap and worry me about the future of my furry children before them going under anesthesia and having added another thing to think and stress about. Nobody called to contact me and explain to me why 3 teeth were going to be pulled. The lack of communication is all over the place. Not everyone seems on board and on the same page. On the phone they called and told me to come pick up my dogs from this to this time. That was not what they had told me when I was dropping off my dogs. They said they would call to tell me to come pick them up once they were coming off the anesthesia. Why tell me to come between this and this time? I took the day off for a reason because I care for my dogs and would be ready for immediate pick up once they were ok to go home. All the woman on the phone said was "they did great". So tell me WHY when I get to the vet office to pick up my dogs (thinking they did great and going in with very good vibes) that the staff is saying "we had to pull three teeth" and is shoving a paper onto the countertop explaining how to feed my dog and what to watch for in the next few days due to the soreness my dog may experience because of the tooth extractions. Of course I agreed to any tooth extractions prior to my dogs getting their teeth cleaned because I would never want them to be in any pain, however how unprofessional is it to not call and contact the pet parent and explain what is happening. Give me a why! Tell me "these teeth are being pulled because (this)". I still never got a single reason as to why they were pulled. I guess you pay for what you get, because it was "dental savings month", but that's funny because I took them to get a dental cleaning at my prior vet on a regular non-discounted month AND paid $140 less than I did here, granted I my dog got 3 tooth extractions without my knowledge, but after comparing this receipt to my old vet it didn't add up to any "discount" at all really. It's a shame I moved here and will still be looking for a nice vet that actually wants to keep the pet parent updated on their pet not just doing God knows what for whatever reason without ever communicating their reasoning for doing so. I hear of 10+ year old dogs getting teeth extracted but not 6 year old dogs getting 3 pulled in one sitting without any type of notification. Greedy. Very greedy. I'm still new to the area and will continue searching for a veterinary establishment that wants my business and treats me and my dogs not as a transaction but as their own, just like they would treat their family. He has such a calm demeanor both with his patients and their owners. He does an excellent job explaining the situation at hand and the possible courses of action. Small and homey clinic. Could definitely use some cosmetic updating. Initially brought our puppy here because it is close to home and had great reviews. Our first few visits were fine, but then Dr. Sholts retired and everything changed. Each time we went into the clinic the last few months, we got a new doctor. There was no consistency. To make matters even worse, we waited 30 minutes past our appointment time each visit. The front staff was rude and no one EVER apologized for the long wait times. They simply claimed "yeah well doctors get behind and that's how it is." The biggest issue: We took our puppy in for the influenza vaccine and a vet, whom we'd never met before, told us he had an arrhythmia and bradycardia. She didn't want to do further testing in the clinic claiming that it'd be best for us to see a veterinary cardiologist ASAP. We'd do anything for our dog, as most owners would, so we managed to get an appointment at a University. Well, $500+ spent later for a cardiology work up and absolutely nothing was wrong with our dogs heart. Went to a new vet the week after and again, nothing wrong. Thank God for that, but this veterinarian was adamant that there was something wrong with our puppy. Needless to say, we will be going elsewhere. read more

I have been taking my pets to Dr. Sholts since I was a kid. Even when I ended up living a few miles away where there is a closer practice, I returned to Forest View Animal Hospital, because not only is Dr. S the most caring vet, the staff is amazing. Added bonus: the costs are some of the best in the area. When both of my cats passed away (separate occasions), the sensitivity everyone showed to our pain was so helpful and kind. They also made a donation each time in my cats' honor to the Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine (both doctors' alma mater, as well as one of the top vet schools for teaching and research in the country). Dr. Bufton is a great addition to the practice, she got right down on my corgi's level to meet her on the floor of the exam room. Fun little story: when I was young and we would bring our cat to FVAH, I would admire a Dogs of the World poster on the wall. I always focused on the Pembroke Welsh Corgi - it was so cute, it looked like a big dog in a little dog body. Now, I get to bring my own sweet corgi to Forest View, and that poster is still there! read more

Dr. Scholtz is a fantastic vet & his staff are just as wonderful. My 2 dogs are treated so well that they have never been anything but excited to go to the vet! They aren't scared & look forward to the pets and attention. I trust Dr. Scholtz's advice. He's helped us with the basics such as vaccines, testing, ear infections and he's also helped us with more complex situations (like separation anxiety w/ our adopted mutt Maddie). Some vets can insist that you purchase preventatives like Frontline or Heartguard directly from them and can be slow/difficult if you want to order through an online company, but not Forest View. They make it simple/easy/quick & have never pressured us, in any way, to purchase anything directly from them. They've also sold us larger packages (and allowed us to split them between our two dogs) & have told us about rebates we could use to save money. read more

My husband's family originally took their dog to Dr. Scholtz back in the 90's and loved the TLC he and his staff gave. As we were applying to adopt our 2 cats, my husband said flat-out: "The cats already have a vet. His name is Dr. Scholtz." Our cats are fussy, 'fraidy-cat squirm monsters but in his hands they don't make a fuss. They know he's the boss and that he won't hurt them. I really hope that Dr. Scholtz doesn't retire or sell the practise because I don't know that we'd ever be able to find a vet as caring, thorough, and calm as he is. read more

By far, Forest View Animal Hospital beats surrounding veterinary practices. We tried a few before switching here with 2 cats. Early on, one cat needed urgent ACL surgery. Stopped going to this vet many years ago when he killed our pet by over anesthetizing him while removing a small tumor from his ear. Decided to go back again years later for nail trimming on dogs based on convenience of location to my home (would never trust him with more than nail trimming though). Unfortunately, the last time we did nail trimmings he had raised his price by 50% without notifying us until after they were completed. When I called to complain, he offered no solution/resolution for failure to let us know after the fact. My dog groomer does nails for half the price that he charges and she even includes filing the nails afterwords to prevent rough edges. I'm just sorry I ever gave them a penny of my money. read more

Took our dog here with a rash, they tested him for mange told us it was negative. Gave me no other reasonable explanation for the rash. Gave us an antibiotic and sent us home. The vet told me she'd call in a few days to check on him. She never did. The rash got worse and hair started falling out. Took him to another vet, right away said it was puppy mange, tested him and sure enough it was. Not sure what it was I actually paid this vet for. Their misdiagnoses meant my puppy suffered when he shouldn't have and lost so much fur. Not going back. read more

I've been to Forest View Animal Hospital since I moved to Hoffman Est couple years ago and I'm always happy with them. Dr. Scholtz take care of my Maltese Toby,who is 12 years old and he is still very healthy and happy dog. Couple months ago, I adopted another dog a mix breed name Pomi and also they take care her really good. I am very happy and thankful that I found and know this place because I don't trust any other vet. Now, I'm married and moved to Chicago (close to the downtown I use to live 5 min away) I have to drive over an hour to come to Forest View but worth it and I WON'T GO ANYWHERE ELSE! We currently live out of state, but always took our dogs to Forest View Animal Hospital. Dr Sholts and the staff in the office ARE THE BEST! We have have been going to him for the last 24 years and never had a complaint about him or his staff. He is always available to answer questions, never feel rushed and when our one dog was dying, he even stopped by the house to check on her - Dr Sholts goes above and beyond. YOU WILL NEVER FIND ANOTHER VET BETTER TO TAKE YOUR PET TO!!! I was not as impressed with the female vet that was filling in for him when he was away. She seemed to minimize my concerns and kept calling my pet Boo Boo after I repeatedly corrected her. I have a 4 year old dog and a 2 year old dog. I have been taking them to Forest View from the day I got them. I always felt Forest View was a great vet. They have received all their care there, shots, check ups, heartworm and stool tests. They were neutered and spayed at Forest View. Then one of my dogs became ill, I was upset and nervous about the way she was acting, naturally you call their vet. I was hurt and horrified to hear them tell me they could not see her! I was told they were busy and it would be at least a week before they could get her in. I was told to take her to an emergency vet if I thought she needed to see someone before then. I find it extremely upsetting to know I've been going to a vet that's only dedicated to your pet as long as it is convenient to their schedule. My advice, find a vet that will be there for your furry best friend when they need it most. Not a vet that takes your money when it's easy, but one that truly cares about your pets health at all levels. read more
