We tried a few different vets in the area before settling on Barrington Square Animal Hospital simply because it was closest to our home. After several visits over the years, I can say there are some positives--but also some major drawbacks that ultimately pushed us to look elsewhere. First, this clinic is exceptionally expensive. Nearly every service, from routine checkups to prescriptions, is priced noticeably higher than other veterinarians in the area. Even basic medications felt inflated, which adds up quickly when you have multiple pets. Customer service has been inconsistent. While scheduling appointments is easy, the in-office experience really depends on which doctor you get. Dr. Irina was the biggest issue for us. We saw her at least three separate times, and each visit left us feeling negative and unheard. She was dismissive, condescending, and spoke to us as if we were children rather than pet owners trying to understand our dog's health. When we brought in our six-month-old Doberman for unexplained hair loss, she immediately pushed for nearly $1,000 worth of tests without offering any explanation or talking through potential causes. The approach felt rushed, impersonal, and overly costly. On the other hand, Dr. Zoe was absolutely wonderful. She cared for our mini schnauzer when he needed several rotten teeth removed, and she was patient, kind, and incredibly thorough. She answered every question, explained the procedure and recovery clearly, and even walked us through all the financial details so we knew exactly what to expect. Her compassion and clarity made such a difference during a stressful situation. If every visit had been with Dr. Zoe, this review would be glowing. But the combination of high prices and inconsistent bedside manner--especially the repeated negative experiences with Dr. Irina--made it hard for us to stay loyal to this clinic. I find it difficult to write this review as we have been taking our pets to BSAH for over 30 years, but am posting so other pet owners see this and be aware of exactly how/if their pets are being evaluated and treated properly at BSAH. Long story short, suddenly our dog developed a limp so we took her to BSAH for an evaluation. The Vet briefly checked her over and suggested X-rays, which did show a tear. We were given information on the surgery and quoted $5600 for the surgery. Being on Social Security this was a huge challenge for us but we love our pup and decided to go ahead 4 days later. She got through the surgery, but did not do well afterwards and would not eat. We followed up with Dr. Jen 3 days post-op and it was suggested she have more blood tests done. At that time Dr Jen noticed a very large tumor in her abdomen and probably did not have a long time to live. I keep asking myself over and over again why did neither Vet notice this tumor before putting our dog through surgery (and before the financial outlay)? We had her put to sleep 3 days after her surgery. I asked Dr Jen how this could happen and she said the tumor got so large so quickly. If it was that large, how was it not noticed before surgery? I feel this was negligence on their part unfortunately and hopefully they will be more careful and more detailed in their care before putting a dog through surgery. It is done now. Saddest thing I've ever experienced. Hopefully they will be more competent in their profession going forward, and other pet lovers won't have to go through this. read more

Tough review to write. Pros: - They have helped my dog when my dog actually needed help. (broken tooth, I wanted to spay my dog, etc.) - They have some "nice" vets Cons: - They also just tried to sell me on a bunch of medications that have pretty bad negative side effects for conditions my dog didn't have...? Literal conversation - Vet - "I'm going to give 2 medications that your dog needs. One is for infections and one is for bacteria in the ear" Me - "does my dog actually have an infection or can I wait and see how her cut and hotspot heals up after using an antibiotic shampoo for allergies + giving her an allergy shot" Vet - "No your dog doesn't actually have an infection, but it'd be worse if things got bad and you have to come back right?" Me - "no I think it'd be worse to give her something she doesn't need and that makes her super sick from the side effects"... Vet - "okay then yeah your dog doesn't need these." Me - "Wtf." Again, not the worst vet ever... but also they're pretty full of it and like to make money off of people that aren't aware of Vet scams and off people that aren't educated. read more

I was shorted $150.00 by BSAH. They mismanaged my dogs health care, leading in part to an early and difficult demise for her. They agreed to reimburse me $600.00 of which I received $450.00. This after spending thousands of dollars on my pet there. A stupid and silly decision all things considered on the part of BSAH. As I want to put this painful experience behind me I'm no longer pursuing the $150.00, but I am notifying concerned parties that BSAH turned out to be negligent and petty. read more

With a caring heart, Dr. Kristen provided thorough wellness exams for both of my dogs. She answered all my concerns and provided helpful guidance regarding storm anxiety, aging symptoms, teeth hygiene, and vaccination status. Her assistants were equally as nice and supportive. I love this animal hospital. My dog has anxiety, separation anxiety, and allergies and they care about the animals. They show empathy in tough situations, when making financial decisions, they work with you too. And Myliene is awesome. Answered voicemail so quickly and took care of my pet med refill so fast so my baby wouldn't miss a day! She is so attentive and made sure to help me with all my needs. And recommended me a generic version of a medication to help save me money (which nobody else has told me and my dog has been on this med for a while)! It is so heartbreaking to lose a beloved pet. Sadly, I needed to bring a family dog in to be cremated here. Every single staff member was kind and respectful of the grief I was experiencing. Plus, they were proactively helpful in taking care of our deceased pet. I was impressed that they have a small "funeral parlor" with sofas, soft calming music and lots of tissue. The facility is also very clean with no unpleasant animal odors. Highly recommended. read more

We've been taking our dog to this vet since he was a puppy. We used to really love and trust this practice. Over the last year they've really let us down. We recently took our dog to the groomer there and he developed a rash all over his sanitary areas. Both of them. It is clear it is razor burn. It is clear that the groomer put too much pressure on my dog's skin with the razor. It is clear he was burned. Just by looking at the pictures I know that. When I finally (2 emails with pictures included and 3 phone calls) got ahold of the manager she repeatedly talked over me, and belittled me by saying my name over and over while I was talking. To the point that I had to ask her to please stop talking over me. To the point that I had to remind her that I took my dog to her practice for a groom and he came home with an injury and as the customer I'd appreciate if she would listen to me and my experience rather than talk over me. After showing that they have very little care for my dog I decided I didn't even feel comfortable taking my dog there to have this burn looked at. The biggest problem for me is that they were clearly tip toeing around the problem. She didn't want to take liability which absolutely ruined my trust with them. It is still baffling to me the lack of care she handled me with, let alone my dog. I wasn't asking her for anything. I wanted to tell her about the situation and how my dog was let down in her practice. I felt as though she was attempting to imply the rash was caused my his history of allergies. Despite me sending pictures, despite me absolutely 100% knowing that he was burned at the groomer. The groomer shaved above my dog's rectum, up his tail a good 2 inches (which I've never seen before) - There is no hair there anymore, but there is a big red raw patch of skin. That apparently isn't evidence enough of razor burn for them. Yes, my dog has a history of allergies and skin infections. As his owner I am always on top of it. I watch his skin like a hawk. I know when he's getting a flare up. I know when his allergies are affecting his skin. What happened after his grooming appointment was nothing like an allergy flare up. It was raw, red, burned skin. To be honest this place runs on money grab after money grab. It's not about the care of the animals. We've had visits where my dog is barely looked at during an annual exam. We've had visits where they forget about us in a room and we're stuck waiting 30 minutes. Not everything is bad here and they've provided my dog some good care and there are some good people, but I've seen a major decline in the care and empathy they have for their customers over the last year. Find a better vet for your pet. Don't let their negligence hurt your pet like it did mine. They will probably reply to this stating how sorry they are for my experience and my response is that I'm sorry too. My dog having razor burn all over BOTH his sanitary areas is incredibly upsetting and deeply unfair and I hope that you invest in some training before you do this to another dog. read more

DO NOT TAKE YOUR FUR BABY TO BARRINGTON SQUARE ANIMAL HOSPITAL and DO NOT SEE DR. IRINA YATSKY, D.V.M. If I could leave negative stars, I would. My visit was absolutely insulting, and I was treated horribly. I choose to return to this practice, because of the care and bedside manner my fur babies and I received from 2010 to 2018. All the vets I worked with left the practice. I REGRET returning. I am taking care of my fur newphew for my brother. My brother is deployed in Iraq. Dr. Irina Yatsky, was the worst physician I have ever meet. She should not be allowed to talk to clients nor touch their pets. My fur newphew has an ear infection. He went for his follow up. I explained he needs more medication for his right ear, because it still has an infection. She was arguing with me, and stated she did not feel comfortable providing my newphew with more meds. The ear cytology showed he still had yeast in his ear. Thus, proving he needed more medication. Then she insulted me, belittled me, and talk down to me. She stated I did not understand basic diseases. Side note, I have a background in infection diseases. I had to request all the results of the ear cytology otherwise it would had not been offered to me. (I am worried they may changing all of his tests results, because it is not a medical report, it is their own notes typed into the computer.) She requested my brother to come to Gus' appointment. I explained to her multiple times that my brother is deployed. I explained to her, that I need to get everything ready for my newphew, my brother's return, and their next location/base. I wish I could give ZERO stars! BEWARE OF THIS PLACE. Don't let your dog become a victim! I enrolled my puppy in daycare last year, and due to BSAH's complete incompetence and negligence, my dog was injected without my knowledge or consent. When I asked how this could have possibly happened, (fun fact: the only reason I knew he received a vaccine was because they tried to charge me for it!!!!), I was told he was given a shot by mistake. Someone tell me HOW you inject a dog by MISTAKE?! A dog that is NOT a patient. He was there for doggy daycare, not a vet appt. Important Note: Barrington Square is NOT our vet and never was our vet. Our dog received his vaccine from his regular vet that morning and BSAH was notified by phone, email and in person that he already received his vaccinations... they even confirmed receipt of the vaccinations via email!!! How do you acknowledge receipt of vet records and then take my 3 month old puppy into a room and give him shots. I was and am still dumbfounded. I immediately called the ER and was told we were very lucky Frankie is a hefty dog because a smaller dog getting double vaccinated would not have been that lucky. NEGLIGENCE! have been using the day care for quite some time. i would say last two years. when we first started and our dog was a puppy around 10 months old. when he first started going, we were pulled aside and told we need to work on his recall so he can be redirected if need be. we understood and worked on it. our dog has been going i would say maybe once a week. when he is picked up we often ask how he did, was he a good boy, etc.... we hear yes. so we continue coming. today, i receive a call and a voice mail is left stating our dog went after another dog and has been pulled out of day care. in the voice mail the lady stated that this has been happening every week. i called back immediately asking if this is something happening every week why weren't we made aware. i was told the week before the lady who was supposed to have a conversation with us was too busy due to being short staffed. but, was told repeatedly by staff i have not seen before that they are sure of the fact that we have been talked to i asked where was the documentation of what's been going on and these talks....there was none. they then started back tracking and stating well they know we were talked to about his recall. THOSE ARE TWO SEPARATE CONVERSATIONS to be had, talking about recall and talking about a dog going after another dog are two different things. i would have never continued to bring my dog in for day care knowing he was "going after other dogs". one not only to make sure there are no issues but two i would not of continued to put my dog in a situation he potentially is uncomfortable with. in my opinion, this is pure negligence on behalf of the kennel staff. if a dog goes after another dog the owner should be notified as well as the dog taken out of day care. there was no notification, other than today when a voice mail was left stating this is happening every week. they have no documentation system. when i picked up my dog, and asked to speak to whoever was in charge i was quickly told we needed to talk in a room i'm sure because they did not want other customers hearing. i have heard from other day cares will lie to you because they are all about the money & they aren't properly trained to work with dogs. but, i thought a day care at a vet wouldn't be all about the money. proved me wrong. read more

This place is an absolute joke. Brought our dog in for teeth cleaning a few months ago, and turns out he needed several extractions. One of the extractions required his gums to be sewn shut, which resulted in added charges to the visit. After the initial procedure, the hole in his gums was not closed, so he needed a second procedure to sew the hole shut again. Much to our amazement, they charged us for the second procedure... the same procedure we already paid them to perform the first time, we were now paying them to try again. A few weeks pass and we had to bring him in for a checkup on the second procedure. Low and behold, the gums were STILL not closed. This required our poor dog to have, yet again, the procedure done for the third time... the same procedure we'd already paid them TWICE to complete, and had to pay for yet again. These people are crooks, to say the least. A few more weeks go by and our dog is due for a checkup on the third procedure. Our appointment was at 8:00 am, to which we arrived on time. We were given a waiting room and were notified that the doctor would be in shortly to examine him. 40 minutes go by, and not a single person came into the room to check on us or examine our dog, so we left. Not only is the level of care substandard, so is the customer service. There are numerous vets in the Schaumburg/Hoffman area, and I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere for your pet needs. Just look at the other reviews -- this is not an isolated incident. It's a shame because we like Dr. Jen, but this place is not at all respectful of your time or money. I have been a pet parent attending this location since about 2012. A decade's worth of time, money, and heartache-- put into this ungrateful company. I regret every single year I have given to this business, as they have made me come to this point over a long period of time. They claim to care very much for their patients and their parents, but this could not be further from the truth. I had two animals before the animal that caused my third and final strike. My cat, Autumn (and I say mine because VERY RECENTLY they started to care about who's name is on the account, to cover their asses about the malpractice they've been actively repeating) had a mass in her chest. I brought her in for it, expressing concern, especially because she was 16 years old at the time, I believe. They said to pay it no mind, as it was a cyst, and that if it begins to bother her, then they could take care of it. Flash forward a year, a very loud, screaming year, as my cat was yowling in pain (which they said was high blood pressure, and had us medicating her for it and go figure, it wasn't helping). I came into the room my cat stayed, and her chest was open and bleeding. That is never what you want to walk in on and see in the pet you have had your whole life. Considering she was bleeding, I immediately took her to BSAH.. It was a tumor, the entire time, and that day, when I brought her in, they put my baby down. I had no chance to come to terms with it before they took her from me. My cat was old, and time and time again before, I went in knowing that this might be the day that they put her down, but to have something happen because of stupid choices made on the vet's part, where the chance to be prepared for what was to come was ripped away from me? That is sadistic. It made me sick, that I knew (with no animal medical knowledge) something was really wrong with her, and time and time again was shot down by people I believed I could trust. They were not concerned when I clearly was, and they downplayed my worry, gaslighting me into thinking everything was okay and manageable. I had that cat since I was three years old, and to see my best friend treated so poorly really hurts me to this day. And to think, during this whole back and forth with BSAH, I never got an apology for what they made me go through with her. This was a VERY big first strike. Moving on to strike two, RJ, or little man. Little Man was my grandmother's emotional support animal, and when it came down to it (as my grandmother was sick) our ESA as well. May 1st, my grandmother passed away, and little man was our saving grace. He was the only thing we had still going from my grandmother, that directly tied to her. We had prepared to continue to care for him and raise him like nothing had happened, especially because at that point, he was everyone's ESA due to the fact that my grandmother died. That was, until he started not eating, then not drinking. One day, he was fine, and the next day, he wasn't. We took him in to BSAH to get him checked out, then promptly took him home to monitor him, just to see if he would start eating and drinking again. He wasn't. Later that afternoon, we get an extremely vague phone call, telling us that the results were not good, but that we would need to call back to find out what was wrong. When we called back (twice), everyone was too busy to talk with us. We never received a call back, so I had to take the responsibility of finding out what was wrong. After managing to get his blood results and doing some googling, because that's what we had to resort to, I. MYSELF, had to find out and let my mother (who had just lost her mother) and my little brother, that our dog was in renal failure. He was in extremely bad shape, it was clear, yet BSAH did mot have the time or the care to let us know. I called back as soon as I knew, told them what I found out, and that we would have no choice but to put him down, as he was too far gone. They were too busy for us to come in and get our baby put down. I can not explain how embarrassing it was to have to go to Golf Rose Animal Hospital, convince them that our dog was dying, and have them put him down. They even told us that they thought we were like some of those pet parents that have their animals euthanized because they are done with them. That's how hidden he had this sickness, that I had to find myself. They put him down that day, about a week after my grandmother died. Another instance that BSAH cared so little for their customers, also known as my second strike. Strike three! They are out, and I hope they are out for everyone else, but let's talk about the only living animal that BSAH has screwed over. RJ, my german shepherd husky, was limping recently. Limping very, very bad, to the point that it was time to take him in. People who are looking to do dental work. Avoid this place. There are cheaper options out there. Also a doctor's visit is $70 which they do not disclose. They stated dental work to be starting around $450 but I got an estimate for $3-4k. They are not upfront on what's needed and it is clear why. I paid a $70 office visit for a estimate and stethoscope for the lung and heart. Would never recommend this place to anyone. Parks Animal Hospital is more upfront, sticks to their prices, and more reliable than this place. I knew it was a bad practice when the tech came in telling me I needed four vaccines prior to dental work which was also not stated to me. read more

Shocked! I took my dog for a grooming appointment at Barrington Square. Upon dropping my dog off, I was asked for her vaccination records, which I called my vet to send over. Driving home, Barrington Square Animal Hospital called to inform me that my dog was due for her Bordetalla and flu vaccine. I thanked them for letting me know and proceeded to call my vet to ask for more information. My regular vet shared that my dog was due for Bordetella (not flu) and I could bring her in for a simple technician to give. Upon picking my dog up, we were presented with a bill for over $200, which included vaccinations ($38.70 (bordetella) and $52.92 (flu)) and a $46.50 exam that we did not approve. We are absolutely SHOCKED that vaccinations were provided to our dog that we did not approve and that we were billed for services we did not approve. We would never have approved an influenza shot and would have gotten the bordetella via our vet. This is shocking and completely unprofessional. read more

Dr Courtney Poders was highly recommended by a friend for my newly adapted dog. She took the time to explain everything in a way I could understand and let me know all the treatment options available for his condition. She was wonderful with my dog and I greatly appreciated her knowledge. In all of my experiences with vets I have never met a vet more compassionate! The office staff was friendly and the visit was timely and very organized. She is not the closest vet to me since I live in Buffalo Grove but the drive is worth having a vet I trust! read more

IF YOU LOVE YOUR PET DO NOT TAKE THEM TO THIS FACILITY FOR ANYTHING!! For over a year they have told us that our dog was fat and needed to go onto a diet "she needs to lose 3-4 lbs", we changed foods and quantities but we never got any results. When we look back at the pictures the "fat" was really the bulge growing right behind her ribs, not in her belly where you would expect fat. Had I known more about dog anatomy or had less trust in this vet at the time I would have questioned it myself. Recently she fell ill, refusing to eat we brought her in for an emergency appointment to find out that she has a mass on her spleen that had ruptured, and she was bleeding internally. She needed emergency surgery and when it was removed it weighed 3.4 lbs. This vet absolutely did not do their job - they continued to assume she was overweight and tell me I wasn't doing enough for her to lose the weight, never thinking that maybe something was wrong. The arrogance is astounding especially after hearing from them that they aren't sure of so many other things, "all pets a different, we don't know, we aren't sure" - why were they so sure she was overweight? Again they did not do their job taking care of my pet - over the eight and a half year they saw her. The vet we spoke to about the surgery was only able to give us the cost of the operation, she was not honest about post care, transfusion costs, or the potential of a short prognosis (1-3 months). They were not capable of providing the post opp care and could not provide even a ball park estimate on the costs. So they have either never done the surgery before or they were just trying to collect their money and let us worry about it later. Well the post opp care is as much as the surgery and had we know this we would have probably decided to part ways with out pet. Now we are nearly double the original estimate and we may still have to say goodbye to our pet. read more

Lousy is too generous of a word to describe the UNcaring and UNcompassionate approach they exhibit towards your animal's wellbeing. Worse than jiffy lube or the sleaziest used car salesman - and you know what I mean by that. They bombard you with communications extolling the necessity of their preventive services such as shots for this and shots for that yet when your dog is sick and clearly in need of attention they tell you come back at another time that's convenient to their schedules - for me and my beagle that will be the 12th of NEVER! Got pestered by them to take him in for annual exam and shots - then on the day of our visit did not have one of the vaccines in stock but charged anyway as part of a package. They told us they'd call us when the vaccine was in stock. Weeks go by and no call. So when Murph the beagle takes ill and is experiencing obvious pain and discomfort, I elect to drive the 20 miles to have have him seen to in the hopes that his already paid for and outstanding 'so necessary' vaccine will win him some favor. But NO! No compassion no warmth and no concern - just cold mercenary-like rejection and the worthless advice to come back at a more convenient time. How does never sound? Because that's the next time we'll be back to this 'not there when you need them' practice. Thanks for nothing. read more

I've been taking my golden there the past few years. They constantly told us he was fat but had no solutions. They would recommend expensive diets and tests, without ever giving us anything that worked. We finally took him to another vet when Barrington Square didn't have any openings and come to find out our dog has hypothyroidism and his thyroid doesnt work at all. Barrington Square told us they ran all possible tests on him and took thousands of our dollars attempting to "help" my dog without ever doing anything effective. Before recent years, they really have been great, but lately I am not impressed. Not sure if anything has changed there, but I will not taking my dogs back there ever. read more

I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE at all! The staff is constantly upselling you. I took my puppy in to get spayed today and they called me while she was still under anesthesia because they wanted to pull a baby tooth and give her another vaccine even though she is totally up-to-date on vaccines. They saw her 3 times previously in the past two months and never said a word about her tooth. The doctor also told me the vaccine she wanted to give her was mandatory but The only mandatory vaccine that must be given in the state of Illinois is rabies which she was given three weeks ago. They just don't stop with their pushiness and trying to pressure you. It's a money maker business not in the animal best interest. I switched today to forest view animal hospital. If you love your pet don't take her Barrington square. read more

All of the staff were wonderful with my little cat, especially Dr. Brittany, who was very knowledgeable and informative and a joy to work with. This is a great vet clinic......as long as you see Dr. Scott Jarrett. The desk staff and the techs have always been great to us and our dog. Dr. Scott has been our dog's doctor since he was 12 weeks old and you can tell he loves his patients as much as you do, and doesn't do any unneeded tests or medications. He is always happy to answer questions and is very prompt in returning phone calls. He helped our pup get over a bout with a nasty parasite, kennel cough, and a twisted elbow with his diligence and expertise. On a different note, we have had a couple BAD experiences with Dr. Shalini Emmanuel. She has terrible bedside manner and tends to scare you with the worst case scenario. Take your pet in for a cold and she may recommend lifelong medication for a congenital disease and do at least five expensive tests....did you know vets get paid from tests they run? One star only to get the review published. PLEASE do NOT use this place. I cannot even call them a vet at this point. I work with 3 different rescues and recently adopted another dog. I have quite a bit of vet experience and have never written a negative review about one. This vet was one of the covered placed to bring B for her spay. I wish I could laugh about this now but can still only shake my head. My experience on 2/21/19: After re-scheduling twice, we had an appointment for B finally. We were told to arrive at 7am. (mind you I drove from the city to here for this). We arrive at 7am on the dot. Go in and wait for the two, young ladies to finish gossiping before we are greeted, quite unpleasantly. Ok - maybe she hadn't had coffee, it's early. So the girl pulls up the records and informs us that since she hasn't been seen "here" yet, she'll need to be fully vetted first. So I showed her the paperwork from her previous vetting, plus the authorization for the spay and was told she would still need to be seen. OK no problem, can't hurt...but wait...she tells me the Techs will not be in until 8am. I must've had an annoyed look on my face because the girl then says, "can't you just go get coffee and come back?" Um no! I have a life and a job and already made accommodations to be here at this time. I asked if we were able to leave her, approve the exam and if they found something that would prevent them from doing the spay (which they won't), we would come back to get her. Obviously we wouldn't just abandon our newly rescued dog, randomly. But nope, that's not policy. Don't you think in this particular situation, perhaps an exception could be made. "No. You'll just have to reschedule then." Um, what?!? Negative. We grabbed B and headed out...so irritated I could hardly breathe. We reached out to the rescue to inform them we were taking her elsewhere and the rescue said they actually no longer use this place either - also due to rude, unprofessional behavior and consistently incorrect diagnoses and treatments. This is not my primary vet as I live in the city but when my cat needed a dental cleaning under anesthesia I brought her here based on a recommendation. The staff were so friendly and helpful from the start (mind you this was in March right before Corona kicked off so everyone was stressed because of how crazy the world was getting) and treated me as if I was a long time client from the moment I stepped into the clinic. The clinic itself was clean and modern inside and spacious enough to keep my cat away from the dogs that were waiting for their appointments. I had sent them Luna's records ahead of time so all we had to do to prep was a quick exam to make sure she was healthy enough to go under. After I left Luna to get her teeth cleaned the doctor called to tell me they found a few severe cavities and confirmed that I agreed to the extractions and several hours later my girl was all ready to go home. They sent me with some pain medication and after care instructions and the recover was super easy. I ended up having a quick question when we got home and the staff answered it as soon as I called to put me at ease. Overall, the quality of care was exceptional and the price was very reasonable (basically half of what I was quoted in the city and that quote didn't even include extractions!!). Should my girls need any more work done I will absolutely be bringing them here again. read more

I recently adopted my senior (15 year old) Shih Tzu last month and was recommended here by the shelter. They have been great with me since adopting him. Great doctors and the staff is friendly. It can get chaotic while very busy in the morning with it being reopened for guests inside after the pandemic, which is expected. I also just used their grooming service and must say that the groomer was excellent with my old little guy! She took her time and made sure he was comfortable, which I can tell he feels great and looks great in top of it! I'll definitely be coming here with my future animals as well. read more

DECEASED DOG! Brought our 1 yr and 11months old bulley pit in for urinary track infection, was told he needed xrays to see if he had any stones in his bladder...and of course he did. Was told he needed surgery right away. I scheduled the surgery for the next day. Was told it would be a simply surgery with one cut on his abdomen drain the bladder and stones and stitch him back up and could come that afternoon. Dropped him off at 7am....5 hours later Dr. Kristen calls me saying my dog didn't make it.... and his heart stopped during surgery they did CPR and everything they could do. My dog was healthy, almost 2 years old, had already been put under anesthesia before! I'm not sure WHAT caused his heart to stop...but we are devastated. Terrible and traumatic experience! read more

Finding a good vet is really difficult. This is a good one. I now live close to an hour away from this vet and still travel to bring my pup. They are knowledgeable, love animals, and provide compassionate care for pets. They provide many different options for treatments (of varying costs) and NEVER pressure you to get expensive tests and procedures. This is a client-centered business that have pets and their families as their top priority. The front desk staff are extremely helpful and friendly, as are the vet technicians. I have seen multiple vets at this site and all of them are wonderful. Dr. Jen has provided absolutely outstanding care to my elderly dog and has been particularly helpful in addressing some serious medical health setbacks that he has had (e.g., heart problems, mast cell tumor and several reoccurrences). She always provides several different options for treatment and thoroughly explains the pros and cons of each option. She takes the time to explain and answer my questions. She is invested and CARES about the quantity and quality of my pups' lives and is always optimistic (but reasonable) about how to move forward. I think it is probably a hard balance in providing factual information while still making clients comfortable and prepared. I feel like she balances this wonderfully. I always leave feeling like I have done all that I can do for my pets, even when the news has been bad, which is really comforting. Dr. Dan is also an amazing vet. I saw him for the first time after I rushed my dog there when he was showing signs of a "neurological episode." He was calm, comprehensive, and compassionate. When I brought my dog to a neurologist, she mentioned that Dr. Dan did an outstanding and comprehensive job assessing my dog (something she said she doesn't often comment upon), which provided a lot of useful information for the diagnostic process. He did everything she would have done. Dr. Shalini is thorough and extremely knowledgable. She provides helpful, detailed information regarding diagnoses and treatments and always makes sure that I understand (she even brought be back to the back to show and explain my dog's chest x-rays, which was really helpful). Our six month old dog was recently neutered by these people. The approximate price range was disclosed to us in advance (about $300). Upon picking up our dog there was an additional fee nearing $360 for Heart Worm treatments. These fees were not disclosed in advance. Just a quick phone call from the doctor telling us that they could give our dog the treatment. I've owned dogs in the past and have not been charged this before. At the very least they should of said it will be an additional $350+ to do this today.That would of been a heads up at least. So after they rang me up for $675 a man comes out of the office asking me what the problem was. Too late at that point to discuss what has been done. You can read about it now. I feel like each time we've gone in there things are busy and slightly rushed. I understand they have a business to run and need to make a profit. This place seems nice when you walkin. However, paperwork: release, disclosures are handed to you with very little explanation upfront unless you dare to ask. I can afford our dog. If I was worried about the cost of ownership I wouldn't have bought a mini pin to begin with. It's not the price for service, it was the way this incident was handled. I don't feel like there was any personal touch from the staff other than being processed. 'Processed' is the best way to describe our handful of visits since August 2019 (Past three months). I don't want a refund, I don't want a phone call or email from them. Handle your customers better! They are the ones that help you work in a nice building and drive nice cars. We will find a Vet that seems to care about us as a customer and shows it before they receive a review. If I'm the guy standing there paying the bill and getting less than expected service how are they treating your pet when it is left there? I hope the Animal Hospital ownership reads this. Time for a customer experience meeting with staff from the Doctors on down. Good riddance. read more

Dogs were groomed at this location for the first time today. Easy to get an appointment, remodeled and very clean facility, accessible parking, friendly staff (at least until your dog is out of your sight), quite pricey ($55 for anal expression, nails and ears). Appointment was at 1:30pm, 8.5 hours later and my dog's black nails on the rear right paw continue to bleed. It is known black nail are difficult to trim; however, making practically every single nail on a paw bleed is not reasonable. I pay to avoid doing just this. One nail, a few nails, but a a whole paw, bleeding 8.5 hrs after is beyond me. Yes, I'm using Styptic Powder but definitely not satisfied. I've been to PetSmart (not ideal either), and they've done a better job. While Pawparazzi (just around the corner) is typically very busy, absolutely worth the wait. Shame on me for my impatience. I think that attitude is contagious in a workplace. It seems that everyone that works here from the front desk to techs to doctors all have this authentic compassion and accessibility. Dr Emmanuel has been my elderly cats doctor for 3 years and I know for sure she has added at least 2 years to each of their lives. I took my big red cat Davey for a routine exam and found a cyst in his belly, and within 20 minutes it was drained, evaluated and we were on our way home, no b.s. , no expensive exams. just good efficient care. read more

We are currently 'fostering with intent to adopt' a dog from a local shelter. They work in partnership with this vet to get them spayed and once that surgery is complete then we can officially adopt our fur baby. When my boyfriend went to drop her off, the receptionist was incredibly rude and impatient while my boyfriend was trying to keep our dog calm (she loves making friends) and give the correct information - which is specific to the shelter. They should know that bringing your pet in for a surgery is stressful and scary for both you and the pet and be more patient during the check-in process. He also left medication for them to administer and no one took down the instructions he gave on how to give it to her. I called after I heard what happened to a) have them update her name from the shelter name to her new one and b) make sure they knew what to do with the medicine. The girl I talked to on the phone was nice and understanding... but it turns out the message was NOT received. The worse part is when we came to pick her up. They brought her out sopping wet and on a slip leash when we had left her there with a collar and her own leash. They went to the back to get that and then also forgot to bring out the medication that we left with her for them to administer the night she spent at the vet before the surgery (she had giardia from the shelter). They CLEARLY did not give her the medicine because she was supposed to have 1.5 pills that night and there was no half pill in the bottle when we got it back. They also had her name incorrect. AGAIN. We were provided NO post-opp instructions and no doctor came out to speak with us about the surgery. No information on how it went, her recovery, red flags to look for, how to inspect/clean the wound, nothing. I called later to get this information and they were apologetic and emailed it to me and talked me through it. They also said that foster parents typically come and go and they don't usually talk them through the post-opp. uhhh what?! So you just send people home with a dog with stitches and hope for the best? Seems like the post-op procedure should be standard and if the owner/foster is familiar with the process they can notify the doctor and they won't have to go into much detail. Used to bring my childhood dog here when it was Dr owned.. it's completely fallen apart since then. I would NEVER bring my dog back. EVER. read more

The vet came into our room and sat down and spoke with us. She had a genuine care for our concerns and we did not feel rushed. I really appreciated that. They just renovated the facility and it looks great. We also bring our dog for daycare here and she loves it. I pulled into the parking lot, opened the door and my german shepard jumps out of the car, as I go to the other side of my car to get my toddler out of the car, I noticed a vet tech coming outside to help me with me dog . So I wouldn't have to bring my son outside in frigid temperatures. That is customer service. Thank you Barrington Square Animal Hospital. read more
