Very good sandwiches . Would go there again . A little off the beaten path but well worth it .

I was excited to try their sandwiches but no bathroom? Turned around and left and bought a sandwich elsewhere.

This place has a lot of positive buzz, so I was excited to see all their food selections. This place is like a mini 7-Eleven with higher a decent selection of higher end dessert items, including honey halva. They do, however, have a large selection of wine and beer. Depending on prices, this might be their biggest draw. The ambience here is old small town store vibe. Many of their shelf stable specialty items have no price on them so you really don't know what the price tag is unless you don't care or have to ask. The service counter is very small and crowded with the kind of things you would find in a Seven-11--lottery tickets, vitamins, gum etc. Service was OK for what it is. Maybe because I came on a Tuesday, there were only half a dozen premade salads, (bean salad, potato, salad, etc.) A list of sandwich specialties were handwritten written on a piece of paper tacked to the wall. Specialty Sandwich selections were limited, but they will make you any type of sandwich you want. I had a ham and cheese, and the ham was that slick, processed type of ham, which most folks don't care for. I don't get to eat here often enough, but they have never disappointed me!!! The sandwiches are always amazing and definitely enough for 2 meals, if you can resist not eating that second half! As so many others have said in these reviews, Shandi, the owner, runs a wonderful shop and the food from the deli that his family prepares is wonderful! I particularly enjoy the dolma and the Sicilian pasta salad but I've not had an offering there that wasn't delicious. Like all small markets, you'll pay a little more than a large grocery store, but the love and personal attention to quality that you get at the Renaissance market makes the little bit of extra money an easy compromise to make. Be sure to stop in and check out the excellent variety of items "right around the corner". You'll be happy you did. read more

Stopped in for a sandwich and some pasta salad a couple days ago...Sooo good!! I used the order form to create my own sandwich and they did not disappoint! I usually get the jalapeño popper macaroni salad but decided to try the Sicilian pasta salad this time, very tasty! This little shop also offers a wide variety of other goods.... locally made pies, breads, and other treats, craft and specialty brews and colas. Such a neat shop to stop into. small corner store. i stop here anytime im passing through. if you're looking for a deli with a huge menu of unique sandwiches, this isn't the place for you. but if you're looking for a sandwich "like mom used to make" & some pasta or potato salad that will leave you wanting more this is the place to go!!! read more

Obsessed with this hidden gem of a store! They have an incredible selection of beer, wine, sandwiches, pie, vegetables, fruits, snacks, sweets, and moreIt has almost everything you could need in a neighborhood store. You also truly can't go wrong with anything at the deli as they offer a variety of cultural dishes with a rotating menu. I love it. My personal go-tos are always the lasagna (or any pasta), shepherds pie, dolmas, samosas, mousaka, pita bread, and baba ghanoush. I walked to this place regularly about ten years ago, and have watched it grow since then. Shadi, the owner(?) is a really nice guy, and friendly. The food from the case is usually fantastic, and the selection of drinks is unrivaled. The prices are definitely the thing keeping this from being 5/5: it's pretty pricy, even for a little corner market in a well off part of town. read more

Amazing selection of freshly prepared foods, ranging from Greek (moussaka, grape leaves, orzo salad) to Indian (massive samosas!) to Mexican (taquitos, tamale and enchiladas) with ready made sandwiches available, too! The deviled eggs are classic! They also have fabulous local wines at reasonable prices with grocery and gourmet items (halva, honeycomb and Rancho Gordo beans). And.... pies, cookies, pastries to satisfy your sweet tooth. Yes, it's tempting to spend a lot (I dropped $42 for a nice bottle of wine, 2 deviled eggs, 12 oz of Kale slaw, a beef pie (pasty), 1 MASSIVE samosa - actually the only concern it's almost too big with some greasiness although filling is still tasty, and a bottle of berry Squirt for my sister). WORTH IT! Hidden gem. We were despaired that at 6 pm on a Monday night all of the (lighter) options we were considering after a long day of driving to Willits, then the Mendocino Botanical Gardens and then a jaunt through Boonville, were all closed by 6 pm in Ukiah. This was salvation. The owner at the counter was kind and humble with my enthusiasm of his stock. I swear a Top Chef could build an awesome meal outta what they have here. read more

Deli items are SO good and taste fresh. I stopped by here on a roadtrip and you have to get the Veggie Samosa. The portion is HUGE (probably one of the biggest samosas I've ever seen) and it's cheap. They offer to heat up the food you order and the samosa heated up is flaky, crunchy, and flavorful (includes a sweet "chutney" (?) to spread on). I also got the chicken and potatoes (5/5, chicken wasn't overly dry and the potatoes were sliced & tender -- $10 for two pieces of chicken and a nice portion of potatoes/onions/tomatoes), the tabbouleh salad (very refreshing and crisp, it was 100 degrees outside so this was great). This is a hidden gem amongst Ukiah and I'd highly recommend coming in for a bite to go! read more

A recent find for me after moving here more than a year ago. I had been told of this establishment but I live on the other side of town. A coworker took me here for sandwiches. This place is a such a gem in Ukiah! They have the best selection of beer and alcohol! The food looks divine but I haven't tried it. Heads up to anyone shopping for alcohol at Westside Market during the pandemic. The clerk required me to pull down my mask when checking my ID to buy a beer. When I said "No, you can ask me anything on my ID, but I won't pull my mask down" he refused my purchase. I know there is a fear of businesses selling to minors and losing their liquor license, but if your first call to action for checking ID is forcing someone to unmask in a small enclosed space during a Global Pandemic, I think it's time to reevaluate your priorities. There are safer easier ways to check ID (Birthday, Address, Watermarks, etc...) that can be utilized before de-masking a customer. This whole situation feels negligent and short sited, but hey that's just me! read more

Don't let the small size of this neighborhood market fool you. They have EVERYTHING. Frozen salmon? Yup. Organic frozen fruit? Yup. Kemmy's Pies? Thanksgiving Coffee in bulk? Fresh cilantro? Yup, yup and yup. On top of that, the guy who owns it is always friendly and efficient. His prices are on par or better than the co+op, and very time I stop in I leave happier. This is a gem. Ukiah has the typical Cisco type grocery stores. These are the same stores that you can find in Modesto, Fresno, Reno, and probably Mexico as well. Then there is the co-op, which is the regional life saver, and without them we would be screwed!! AND THEN there is the Westside Renaissance Market! Smaller and more personal, this is a store that you can actually feel the good vibes in. The owner and staff are fantastic! I personally never feel rushed there, unlike dealing with the hectic, greedy, and pushy customers elsewhere. Here the Westside Renaissance Market shoppers seem to be of a higher caliber than some of the other stores, as they respect physical boundaries and almost everyone has complied with masking. The variety of goods that they offer is amazing! I have been amazed what they have it the store! The home cooked food is the bomb! If I could give more stars I would! We love our neighborhood store! There are TONS of options for gifts for all ages from locally made baby clothes and toys to nice bottles of wine, beer, and champagne. Also really good to-go options if you don't feel like cooking, and an amazing selection of local herbs and spices. This place had it all, from locally made foods (and I do mean local, as in the house next door or down the street) to locally made political artwork, that was absolutely stunning! The Westside Market in Ukiah is a gem, and I only wish there were places like this all over. 70% of this store was Mendocino, and I was shocked how many nationally recognized items actually come from Mendocino. If you live in Ukiah, cherish this place, as there are very few places like this left in America. read more

This is the only small, personal market in Ukiah. They carry mostly specialty items, with an emphasis on locally sourced. And by local, I mean some things are made in the actual neighborhood. This is the only place your'e going to find locally grown grains. Also the only place your'e going to find such a carefully selected range of beers (with beeradvocate scores), including imports and domestic micros. They have the most sophisticated and knowledgeable cheese selection in town, and always have something out to taste. The market isn't very big, and don't expect to buy all your groceries here, but everything they do have is great. Certainly not the kind of market you find in every town! read more
