Literally, a KICK ASS Pilates studio!! i've tried studios over the years, but Formation Pilates is the only one where I feel I get a fantastic workout with experienced instructors who know how to correct, protect the body, and work it out so that you see real and lasting results. Today was my second class, I am still trying to get comfortable with the machine but I am liking it, Danna helps me get through the class, she is patient and knowledgeable and plays very good music which is super important for me. The studio itself is fine, the classes are good, but the owner Kathy, is the most miserable mean person I have ever encountered in my adult life. She does not value her customers and treats them with utter disrespect. I was made to feel uncomfortable which sullied the entire experience. The teachers, Alisa and Jasmine teach at other studios... Elan and Revive in the area. They are excellent and I would recommend taking their classes at the other nearby studios. There are other great teachers and studios in the area as well. Kathy does not deserve your business and dealing with her will eventually bite you in the ass. I dont know where her nastiness stems from but whatever the case, getting a positive experience at a studio is key and so I'd steer clear of her witches den. She is horrible. read more

Pilates Sculpt with Marianne; Normally when a guy walks into a women's Pilates class, the instructor gives that side eye like, aww, he's definitely in the wrong place. Marianne didn't even bother with the side eye, she just dropped the hardest class ever. Ten minutes in, I was sweating like I'd been waterboarded with coconut water. Halfway through, I started seeing my ancestors. By the end, I wasn't even working out anymore, I was just bargaining with Jesus like, "If you get me through this, I swear I'll foam roll every night." I've been coming to this studio for four years, and every class with Julia is different and keeps me challenged in the best way. She's such an amazing instructor--so patient, encouraging, and always takes the time to correct your form and make sure you're doing everything right. Yeah no... go if you want to do incorrect Pilates. The way it's run is old fashioned and the system is quite annoying. Somehow there's always a billing issue and I'm always spammed with texts emails and calls from them. It's quite constant. Instructor don't seem to know anatomy and I've maybe gotten 2 corrections my time going here. MAJOR RED FLAG!!! I seem to feel worse after these classes because of the massive lack of form correction. Unless you are very knowledgeable yourself about form, don't go here or you'll probably end up with some injury. They really don't seem to understand or even know anatomy I'd go somewhere smaller. read more

Danna Gil is an incredible fitness instructor! She does not miss any major muscle groups and provides challenges for all levels of students. She doesn't have an aggressive vibe, and she's approachable and capable. In addition to being great at studio basics like safety, cueing and offering modifications, she is great about incorporating truly easy to understand and execute compound movements. This place is super nice and so are the people, my only thing is that no matter what class you sign up for it will always be sculpt. If you sign up for straps count on it being sculpt in that straps. Same with the restore class, it will be more like a sculpt class. The only reason I'm making a note of this is because I had an injury last year and I'm not able to do a lot of the things in the sculpt class so it's disappointing when I get excited for straps and its sculpt. read more

First time! Need to work on my flexibility. This place was highly recommended by a friend who attends on a regular basis Karin (pardon any misspelling) was extremely warm and welcoming at the front desk when I walked in. Felt like a best friend. I was absolutely clueless. Had never even set foot in a Pilates studio. I apparently needed grippy socks (I call them hospital socks), but she was able to sell me a $16 pair. She then took me on a quick tour of the facility. Very clean. I got a rundown of one of the "reformer" units. I was also introduced to Andria, who was the instructor for my class. It was suggested I pick a spot between two other people, as opposed to an end unit, so I could see how the others were performing various exercises. DOH!! All this time I thought I somehow lay on this machine and they crank gears that pull and stretch me like at a physical therapy appointment. Nooooo!! I need to do actual work! Sheeesh! Anyway, Andria was very patient and helpful with which bands and loops I should grab or put around my legs or feet. Tried to watch what my neighbors were doing. I think I held my own! Kinda. Sorta. And talk about a workout! Glutes were definitely sore the next morning, but it felt great!! Just need to establish a pattern. read more

I love this place; I have actually stopped going to physical therapy and am seeing a change not only physically but mentally as well. Pilates is hard, but the instructors are very well trained and make me smile. I love how they try to make sure we use proper form so as not to get hurt. Jasmine is an amazing instructor! I came for my first pilates class and she helped guide me through everything and even made sure to give me a little extra attention since she knew I'm a newbie. She is so encouraging and pushes you without overstepping your boundaries. Her positive energy radiates through her teaching and you can tell she loves what she does! I had so much fun during my class. I have fibromyalgia so sometimes working out can be very hard on my body but I found it to be totally doable while still challenging enough for me to feel like I was doing something! I started coming to Formation Pilates a few months after welcoming my first son in 2020. Obviously, it was a challenging year, but the team at Formation Pilates did what many small businesses did and made it work--even when it meant dragging 12 bulky machines outdoors to make the class happen! After YEARS of coming to this Pilates gym along with my family they had the audacity to deny me entry for being 5 mins late to attend a class I pay ridiculous money to even attend in the first place. This is the best Pilates studio on earth!! All the instructors are amazing and the studio is absolutely beautiful. It is immaculate, and the main room has very high ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows with lovely views of the valley. I am 60 years old and I have never been in better shape in my life thanks to these great classes. The teachers are all very inspiring, warm and professional and play great music during class! Looooooove this place. I book on classpass and its a great deal. The studio is very clean and has everything you need (sweat towel, extra pads, etc). The classes are great for all levels and every single instructor I've had here has provided multiple sprin level options for where someone's experience is at with pilates - not all studios consistently do this. Five stars, no doubt! I had fallen out of my fitness routine and was feeling weaker than I had in my adult life. With zero experience in Pilates (but having heard great things about the benefits), I set out on a round of trials with my best (and more experienced!) friend. She and I both chose to sign up for the annual membership here and I'm confident that I made the right choice, for several reasons. Staff is awesome and always warm and helpful. The teachers at Formation are great. They're knowledgeable and professional, and after months of taking classes with each of them, I really appreciate the collective rounding of the teaching staff. I can see clearly that no matter your fitness goals, there is enough variation in style and intensity that this studio can is sure to help you fulfill them. The number of classes offered daily is a huge advantage and the studio itself is fantastic. I've been practicing there five times a week for nearly five months now, it remains very challenging--even hard for me on some days, but the proof is in the pudding I am extremely happy with what Formation classes are doing for my body and my mind. Just finished Ashley Gray's first Pilates 2.0 It was absolutely fantastic. It was challenging, new, and the moves unexpected which made the class even better than usual. I started going to Formation about 2 months ago. I think I've attended over 30 classes so far. I was super nervous to start. My first class was Andria's class. She was so helpful and kind to me, making it such a positive environment. I immediately felt comfortable and the rest is history. I can't speak high enough about the instructors and front desk. Ashley, jasmine, and Andria are the only teachers I've taken but I'm sure that ALL instructors are great. A special shout out to Kharen, what a gem to have at the front, so kind and warm. Kathy is so wonderful too! I can't imagine my week without Pilates class now. I promise you, you won't regret coming to Formation LA. They welcome everyone and make it one of the best workout environments, if not the best I've ever been in. I was really excited to visit the studio since we just moved to Calabasas. The lady at the front desk was really nice and had all the forms ready for me to sign. I started the class 2 min late - 6:32 am. The instructor welcomed me, but a couple of minutes later when I asked her about the springs since they look a tinny bit different than in my old studio... she asked me to leave the class "since she didn't have time to show me how to use the machine"... If I could give a million stars to Formation I would! Hands down the best Pilates classes. I moved recently and can't find any in my area that compare to the workouts I got here. The reformer Pilates are my favorite but they've added TrX and a bunch I didn't get to try while in town. Everyone is super friendly and will guide your practice. The instructors are a cut above! If you are post partum or pregnant they are educated to modify you as well, classes offered all day long. Michelle, Ashley, Djoir, Sarah, they all rock and will kick your butt. I've just competed 10 classes at this studio and I love this place. I have been to many pilates studios around town over the years. This place has a very upbeat atmosphere. The instructors are great and friendly The front desk is friendly too. The reformers are top notch. They have a pilates teaching system that is a bit different from a classical pilates routine. The exercises are based on pilates moves though in the 'strap' classes and are throughly enjoyable and a great workout. The classes are usually full so I am not the only one who loves it there.
